Obituary for Rhodes

Yvonne van der Veen Rhodes, 68 of Cedar Crest passed away on Monday morning, December 9, 2002. Yvonne is survived by her husband, Edward Rhodes, daughter, Erica (Robin) Spring and husband, David of Oregon, son-in-law, Gary Hawks and wife, Martha of Arkansas; grandchildren, Jason, Joshua, and Sara; sister, Licia Tellegen and husband, Auke; brother, Bernard van der Veen and wife, Gerda; sister, Antoinette Snyder and husband, Joseph. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Gaele Hawks and parents, Antoinette Duetz and Gaele van der Veen. Yvonne was born in Medan, Indonesia and spent 3 years in a Japanese prison camp during World War II. She and Edward were married in May 1957. Yvonne also spent 17 years with her family living and working in Saudi Arabia. Her interests included working for the local neighborhood association and the water co-op, gardening, cooking, crocheting, grandparenting, and especially duplicate bridge. Memorial Services will be held Friday, December 13, 2002, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Counseling Center of Central Oregon, 1010 N W Harriman, Suite B, Bend OR 97701 which specializes in spousal abuse.
