Obituary for Pendley

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday December 23, 2001

Palice Pendley, 96, passed away peacefully at home with many of his family members around him on Friday, December 21, 2001. He will best be remembered as a devoted and loving family man. He spent his life working as a master cabinetmaker, but as committed as he was to his trade, he was more passionate in his love and devotion to his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchild. It was extremely important to Palice that they all know their grandpa, and the entire family, from the youngest to the oldest, have many fond and loving memories of their grandfather to cherish forever. Palice was born in Quality, Kentucky in 1905. His mother, Mirtie Vaughn, has preceded him in death. He followed his trade to Zanesville, Ohio where he met and married his beloved Dorothy. They remained not only husband and wife, but also soul mates for 72 years. Palice and Dorothy moved to Albuquerque in 1952 where they have lived for the past 49 years. Palice was a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Tijeras and a longtime member of the Temple Baptist Church in Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by two of his sisters, Isabelle Arnold and Celia Hunt, and has a sister, Ruby Stearsman who, with her husband Leland, lives in Dawson Creek, Kentucky. Palice and Dorothy have two children; daughter, Patty Swingle and husband, Bill of Albuquerque, and son, Jerry Pendley and Karen of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. Palice was blessed with nine grandchildren, including Cindy Stearns of Albuquerque, Debbie Rose and husband, Allan of Las Vegas, Nevada, Steve Swingle and wife, Kathy of Albuquerque, Becky Lorimer and husband, Tom of Albuquerque, Bruce Swingle and wife, Rene of Albuquerque, Melinda Wieser of Albuquerque, Jerry P. Pendley and wife, Jeri of Albuquerque, Konda Ronne and husband, Bill of Oklahoma, and Cheri Ortega and husband, Sam of Albuquerque. The five generations in the family also include 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. The grandsons and great-grandsons will be pallbearers and honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, Sunday, December 23, 2001, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the same location on Monday, December 24, 2001, at 12:00 p.m., with Pastor Fred Gurule officiating. Interment will follow at Sandia Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Temple Baptist Academy, 1620 San Pedro NE, 87110. ¯We celebrate the passing of our Husband, Father and Grandfather as it coincides with the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.
