Obituary for Payton

Lowell Payton died at Lea Regional Medical Center on Monday, December 3, 2001 at the age of 84. Lowell was born a twin August 13, 1917 in Ima, NM. He married Maxine Key on July 9, 1938, in Hagerman, NM. Lowell was principal at several schools in Hobbs, NM. In 1978, he was inducted into the New Mexico Educators Hall of Fame. He was on the Hobbs Board of Realtors, the Farmers Home Administration Board, the Agricultural Stabilization Committee, and the Lea County Fair Board. Lowell was a member of the Hobbs Kiwanis Club, Lea County Sheriff's Posse, served on the New Mexico Junior College Board, the Lubbock Christian University Advisory Board, and the Pine Springs Church Camp Board. Lowell is survived by his wife; two sons, Ron of Bedford, TX and Key of Burbank, CA; a daughter, Constance Robinson of Hobbs; a twin brother, Flowell of Albuquerque; and brother, Bill of Wickenburg, AZ; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous beloved nephews and nieces.
