Obituary for Helsel

David Elery Helsel. Born December 13, 1935 died December 8, 2001. He was born in Canton, Ohio and joined the U.S. Army after graduating from Lincoln High School in 1953. David was a disabled Veteran and died of complications due to Multiple Sclerosis. He graduated with a degree in Business Administration from the University of New Mexico and lived in Albuquerque for over 40 years. He was a resident of Tamarac, Florida before moving to Prescott, Arizona. David had a longtime interest in the stock market as well as in the emerging cellular phone industry. His many accomplishments included writing award-winning poems, one of which was for the Miss Wheelchair of New Mexico pageant, and co-creating the board game "The Great Pyramid" with his lifelong friend, Gordon K. Benson. A Memorial Service was held at the Memory Chapel in Prescott, Arizona. Interment to be at Vista Verde Rose Garden in Albuquerque, New Mexico. David is survived by his wife, Betty Lou; sister, Norma Jean (Helsel) Penney; brother-in-law, Harry Penney of Davie, Florida; two nieces, Diane Treu of Orlando, Florida, and Kathryn Turk of Cooper City, Florida; and five grandnieces and nephews.
