Elisa C. Barela, 82, went home to be with the Lord on December 23, 2001. Mrs. Barela was born on June 3, 1919 in Chimayo, NM. Elisa attended St. Francis High School, worked for Foster Grandparents for 21 years at Centro De Amor, and was also a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fortunato Barela; daughter-in-law, Bernadette Barela; sisters, Grace Lujan, Elvera Sandoval and Tessie Lopez; and brother, Alberto Cruz. She is survived by her son, Frank Barela; daughter, Lorraine Cotinola and husband, Rick; son, Richard Barela and wife, RoseLee; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Elisa will be deeply missed by her loving family. Visitations will be held on Friday, December 28, 2001 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Eighth Street Chapel of Garcia Mortuary with a Rosary to be recited Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. also in the Chapel of Garcia Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial is pending and time to be announced. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Barela, Frank F. Barela Jr., Christopher Barela, Louis Lopez, Rick Cotinola and Sammy Chavez. Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Larranaga and Danny Lujan. Services are in the care of Garcia Mortuary, 717 Stover Ave. SW. 243-5222.
