Jessie Elizabeth Coplen, 105, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2001 in Socorro, NM. She was born November 3, 1895 to Herman and Anna (Zirbel) Vitense in Mazomanie, WI. She moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1923 with her husband, Arthur Thompson, who passed away in 1933. She married Walter Coplen in 1946. She was a long time and very active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque. She had many friends and charmed all that met her. She enjoyed gardening, reading and in later years, traveling. She is preceded by her husband, Walter and step-son, Frank Coplen. She is survived by her daughter, Jean Stanton and husband, Arthur of Socorro; step-daughter, Elsie Cook and husband, Carl of Albuquerque and Lois Leese of Farmington, NM; step-daughter-in-law, Adele Coplen of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Ann Stanton and husband, David Connor of Montpelier, UT, Tom Stanton and wife, Mary of Socorro, Bob Coplen and wife, Charlene of Belen, NM, Richard Coplen of Albuquerque, and Doug Coplen and Ellen Johnson of Washington, DC; seven great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephew. Memorial Services will be held on Friday, April 6, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque with Rev. Myron White and Rev. Phil Preston officiating. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust NE. Albuquerque, NM or to a charity of one's choice. Cremation arrangements by Steadman-Hall Funeral Home, 309 Garfield, Socorro, NM.
