Obituary for Sill

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Tuesday February 20, 2001

Carolyn Mattern Sill died in her sleep on Valentine's Day, 2001, a month after her 88th birthday. Her family hopes she was off to a spiritual reunion with her husband, Edward, who died in 1987. They were married for 50 years. She was born in Ohio, January 16, 1913, met Ed at Miami University in Oxford, and lived in Ohio, Maryland and Florida before moving to La Vida Llena in Albuquerque ten years ago. She is survived by three children, Caroly Jones, Ramah, NM, Geoffrey Sill, Haddonfield, NY, Brian Sill, Baltimore, MD; six grandchildren, Carolyn Nichols and Jocelyn Strauss, Albuquerque, Ian Sill and Maggie Sill Rapp, New Jersey, Connie Sill and Edward Sill, Baltimore; her first great-grandchild is Maxwell Nichols born a year before her youngest grandson, Edward. She was a librarian before retiring, and worked in the library at LVL where she was also well known for her knowledge and love of trees, flowers and shrubs. With her tender care, pansies bloomed all winter on her patio. She and her pansies will be sorely missed. A fund for the LVL Library will honor her memory. Donations can be sent to LVL in care of Mary McMackin, 10501 Lagrima de Oro NE #246, Albuquerque, NM 87111.
