Obituary for Strawn

Enos James Strawn, Jr. Enos Strawn passed away in Chula Vista, CA on August 9, 2000. He was the son and grandson of two pioneering railroad families in northern New Mexico. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy, presently of Albuquerque, and daughters, Janice del Castillo (David) of Albuquerque and Kay Lewis (Willard) of Santa Fe; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Born in Santa Fe on June 13, 1914, he was the son of Enos J. Strawn and Genevra McBride. His grandfathers, James C. Strawn and Samuel S. McBride, were station agents in the early days of the Denver and Rio Grande West railroad, in Farmington and Espanola respectively. E.J. Strawn, Jr. grew up in Los Angeles, CA, and served in the US Navy aboard the aircraft Carrier Lexington prior to WWII. He returned with his wife and daughters to New Mexico in 1944, living in Farmington, and later in Albuquerque, where he completed a BS in Geology at UNM He worked for Standard Oil of Indiana (now BP-Amoco) for 25 years, retiring from the Denver office in 1969. For the next 30 years, he and Dorothy enjoyed golf in the San Diego area. His ashes were brought home to New Mexico to join a number of his ancestors in the historic Fairview Cemetery in Santa Fe. As the preservation of Fairview Cemetery had been his favorite cause for some time, the family requests memorials be made to Fairview Cemetery Preservation Association, PO Box 5958, Santa Fe, NM 87502
