Isabel Maes, 70, a resident of Trementina, NM and a former resident of Las Vegas, NM and Albuquerque, NM, was called by the Lord on June 22, 2001. She was born on October 11, 1930 in Trementina, NM. She was preceded in death by her father, Alfonso Sanchez, Sr., and mother, Cordelia Jaramillo-Sanchez. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, J.D. Maes, Jr., of Trementina, NM; son, Ralph Maes of Trementina and special friend, Mari Jon; daughters, Maria, Myra and their mother Margie Saiz of Las Vegas, NM; son, Chris D. Maes, wife, Bernadette, Christian and Bryan of Albuquerque, NM; and son, David P. Maes, wife, Glynnis, Nicholas and Jonathan of Clovis, NM. She is also survived by sisters, Anna Martinez and friend, C.B. Trujillo of Taos, NM, Consuelo Gonzales and husband, Ben of Santa Fe; brothers, Alfonso Sanchez, Jr. and wife Toni of Trementina, NM, Vences Sanchez and wife, Carol of Loveland, CO. Many nieces and nephews who were very special to her. Many other relatives also survive her. Isabel retired from the First National Bank of Las Vegas after a career in banking which spanned over 30 years. She enjoyed ranching, cooking, canning, sewing and crocheting. She was the Vice-President of the East County Community Organization for the past two years. She was also involved with the Volunteer Fire Department and the Trementina Cemetery Association holding various offices. Isabel was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. Isabel will leave a tremendous void in our lives. She will be greatly missed. She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Las Vegas, NM. Rosary will be recited on Sunday, 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Las Vegas, NM. Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. on Monday with Father Defazio Celebrant. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12 noon. Pallbearers will be Ralph Maes, Chris D. Maes, David Maes, Christian Maes, Antonio Martinez and Nicholas Maes. Honorary pallbearers are Anna Martinez, Corine Marlow, Consuelo Gonzales, Alfonso Sanchez Jr. and Vences Sanchez. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Casa Esperanza, University of New Mexico, 1005 Yale NE, Albuquerque, NM 87106.
