Obituary for Hackenberger

Ret. USAF Major Ernest R. Hackenberger. Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2001 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel for Retired U.S. Air Force Major Ernest R. Hackenberger, age 84, of Roswell, who passed away Friday, June 8, 2001, at the local hospital. Rev. Bill Johnston of Aldersgate United Methodist and Msgr. Bob Getz of Assumption Catholic Church will officiate. Military honors will be accorded by the Honor Guard from Cannon Air Force Base. Masonic graveside rites by the Roswell Low 12 Club will follow at South Park Cemetery. Ernest was born on January 5, 1917 in Juniata County, PA to Walter and Verna Fogleman Hackenberger. On July 16, 1938, he married Margaret Troutman in Hagerstown, MD. She survives him at the family home. Other survivors include his daughter, Carrol Dow and her husband, Tommy of Roswell; three brothers, Robert Hackenberger, Joseph Hackenberger and his wife, Flo and Carl Hackenberger and his wife, Elsie, all of Thompsontown, PA; four sisters, Helen Yocum and her husband, Robert of Thompsontown, PA, Lena Heimbaugh of Harrisburg, PA, Pauline Tobias of Halifax, PA and Levenia Graybill and her husband, Wayne of Thompsontown, PA. Also surviving him are two grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Ernest had been a resident of Albuquerque since 1968 and a resident of Roswell for the last five years. He was a 26 year Veteran of the United States Air Force and retired as a major. He was a 32% Mason, a Shriner, and a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Albuquerque. Memorials may be made to the Masonic Heritage Trust, PO Box 1512, Roswell, NM 88202 or the Cowboy Bell Scholarship Fund at First United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of LaGrone Funeral Chapel.
