Obituary for Dull

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday May 27, 2001

Scott Dull, M.D., a former resident of Albuquerque, died on Saturday, April 28th, 2001. He and a close friend, Martin Gleich, were climbing in the Wasatch Range outside of Salt Lake City when they were swept away by an avalanche that killed both of them. Scott is survived by his wife, Lynn Stimler, and their two young children, Spencer and Emily as well as his sisters and parents. Scott and Lynn lived in Albuquerque from 1991 until 1994. During this time Scott completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center and Lynn received a law degree from the University of New Mexico School of Law. After completing their studies in Albuquerque, the pair moved to Anchorage, Alaska where Scott took a job as an emergency physician with the Alaska Native Medical Center. He worked there for several years before moving across town to Providence hospital, where he eventually became the clinical director of the emergency department. He also held the post of state medical director for emergency services. Scott was a very skilled and successful physician who loved his work, but he is remembered by his enormous number of friends and his family more for his passion and tremendous zest for life. Scott was a very complex person who was constantly looking to improve his personal relationships and was eternally curious about others' life experiences and points of view. He had a childish love for laughter and was known for his sometimes bizarre sense of humor; he loved to make others laugh. He was also a profoundly spiritual man. Most of all, he loved his family and was a committed and enthusiastic husband and father. While it might sound cliché to speak of how a person lived life to its fullest, this description could certainly be applied to Scott Dull. He embraced life with arms wide open, and he profoundly influenced the lives of those around him. Scott will be deeply missed. A memorial service for Scott will be held on Wednesday, May 30th at 6:30pm at the Elena Gallegos picnic area at the head of Los Pinos trail.
