Don Juan Valdes, age 67, of Las Cruces, died on January 22, 2001. Don was the older of two children of Epimenia"Epple" Mares and the late Johnnie Valdes and oldest grandchild of the late Juan B. and Dora Valdes. Don graduated from St. Michael's High School in Santa Fe in 1952. He served four years in the U.S. Navy. In 1958, Don Married Gloria A. Santamaria in Pasadena, CA. Don, who retired this past year, was most recently employed as a Property Administrator at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. Prior to that he had worked as a Purchasing Agent at NMSU and the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Don is survived by his wife, Gloria; his son, Mark and wife, Patti Valdes of Albuquerque; his daughter, Lisa and husband, Ferdinand Tauscheck of Las Cruces; his mother, Eppie; and sister, Alice McKirnan of Santa Fe; three grandchildren, Tawny, Briana and Chad Tauscheck of Rowland Heights, CA; and niece, Michele Stone; and nephew, Michael McKirnan of Santa Fe; and numerous other friends and relatives. Cremation has taken place, and Don's remains will be interred at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in Fort Bliss, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association.
