Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday April 22, 2001

Corinne ¯Corky¯ J. Welch, 73, passed away Friday morning, April 20, 2001 due to complications caused by a massive stroke. Corky is survived by a son, Bob Welch and wife, Lucy; three daughters, Donna Troy and husband, Bruce, Susan Welch, and Linda Taber and husband, Ted; grandchildren, Jennifer Brandon and husband, Greg, Rebecca Troy, Kimberly and Kevin Welch, Justin and Tara Amundson, Rachel Taber, Janna and Jeff Hobson and Megan Taber; three great grandsons, Jordan and Hayden Brandon and Anthony Salinas; sister-in-law, Kara Welch; nephews, Edward and Billy LaGrave and Allen Welch; niece, Kara Lee Welch and numerous other family members and friends that she considered family. Corky was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Jack Welch and by her grandson, Teddy Taber. Corky displayed a most adventuresome spirit when she moved from the city of Chicago to live out West in the Estancia Valley with husband, Jack. Her adventure continued as she gave birth to four precious children. Tenacity and dedication enable her to spend over 28 years with GMAC before retiring in 1986. She participated in hot air ballooning in the valley, camping and boating with friends at Elephant Butte while valiantly battling debilitating osteoporosis. She was recently honored with a lifetime membership in the Albuquerque Boat Club and enjoyed regular luncheon meetings with the Republican Party ¯Dirty Dozen.¯ She became a member of the Westside Hoffmantown Church and loved being a greeter and participating in the Women's Ministry Bible Study. Her strong, quiet, gentle, determined, giving, and kind spirit will be most remembered and greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. The dedication she reflected has made her a woman of honor and dignity in the sight of her children. They are so blessed to have had her as a mom and to know without a shadow of a doubt that she is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior who loved her and died for her. Services will be held Monday, 10:00 a.m. at French Mortuary-Westside Chapel, 9300 Golf Course Rd. NW with Rev. Bruce L. Troy, officiating. Interment will take place at the Town of Estancia Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. Friends may visit French Mortuary-Westside Chapel, 9300 Golf Course NW (3 blks north of Paseo del Norte) Sunday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial gifts to the Building Fund at Hoffmantown West Church, 2600 American Rd.
