Tomas de Aquino Rivera was received into the open arms of our Lord on April 10, 2001. Mr. Rivera was preceded in death by his sons Leroy and Clarence Rivera; grandson John Lucero; parents Teodorita Rivera Bustos and Abel Rivera; sisters Emma Cruz, Viola Cossio, and Magdalena Naranjo; brothers Elias and Jose Rivera. He is survived by his wife Mercedes; children Lala Martinez and husband Tony, Stella Lucero and husband Ronald, Thomas Rivera, Jr. and wife Karen, Rita Galfano and husband Michael, John Rivera and wife Barbara; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; brothers Phil Rivera and wife Victoria, and Manuel Rivera and wife Viola; sisters Charlotte Atencio and husband Alfonso, Trudy Miranda and husband Joseph; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his loving family. A Rosary for Mr. Rivera will be recited Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the 8th Street Chapel at Garcia Mortuary. Final viewing will be from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Monday at Garcia Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with interment to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Matthew Galfano and Michael Galfano, Jr., Mark Lucero, Paul Martinez, Michael Martinez, and Patrick Martinez. Honorary Casket bearers will be James Lucero, Sylvia Rivera and Sharon Rivera. Funeral Services are in the care of Garcia Mortuary, 717 Stover Ave., SW. 243-5222.
