CROMPTON, CORA LORRAINE HANSON Cora H. Crompton was born on January 11, 1923, and returned home to Heavenly Father on February 27, 2015. Cora was 92 years old. Cora was born in Leamington, Utah, to Loreta Dutson and Lowell Allison Hanson. She was the fourth of six siblings and had many great memories of life in a small farming community. After graduation from Delta High School she attended Brigham Young University. While working in Salt Lake City she met her husband, Joseph Crompton. After a two year courtship they married in 1944 and began a life of great adventure. They moved to Albuquerque in 1953 when Joseph started working at Sandia National Laboratory and Cora became a homemaker. They were married 56 years when Joseph preceded her in death in 2000. Cora and Joseph are the parents of three children. Lorelei Romney (Bryan); Alison Jones (Allen); and Joseph Crompton IV (Rose). Cora also had eight grandchildren and was blessed with six great-grandchildren. Cora taught her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren the value of service, love for others, and the benefits of education and hard work. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Haines Ward) where she made many eternal friends. GARCIA, RONALD LEE Born on February 19, 1959 and called to serve in Gods Army on February 26, 2015. He served in the United States Army for 28 years and has coached baseball, football and helped with various events at Moriarty-Edgewood School District for 15 years. He is survived by his wife of 32 years Lana (Country) Garcia; daughters Alana and husband Noel, and Jerrica; sons Eric and Isiah; parents John and Corina Garcia; siblings Linda and Cipriano Griego, John and Martie Garcia, Tommy and Sheila Garcia, Sandra and Mike Dile, Anthony and Cindy Garcia, Gilbert and Barbara Garcia, Ricky and Claudia Garcia, Brenda and Kenny Garcia; and many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. He will be welcomed in Heaven by his grandparents Juan and Transita Salazar. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at noon at Nuestra Senora de Refugio Cemetery in Puerta de Luna, New Mexico. GARRITY, PATRICIA ANNE Left us at the age of 84 to rest in the Lord on Friday, February 27, 2015, with her family by her side. A resident of Albuquerque since 1974, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband John "Jack" Garrity; her parents Agnes and Lawrence O'Leary; and brother, Daniel O'Leary. She was born in Chicago, IL in 1930 to Agnes and Lawrence O'Leary. She is survived by her nine children Brian, Jeanne and husband Jose Senaro, Fr. Sean, Emmett and wife Patti, Kevin and wife Michelle "Mitch", Patrick and wife Becky, Marianne and husband Vern Wood, Michael and wife Deidre and daughter Sharon and husband David Hebert; 24 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; her brother Timothy O'Leary; sister Therese Rose and husband Jack; and 53 nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. Patricia was married for 56 years. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. Patricia grew up in the Chicago area where she attended Catholic grade school and high school. In her early parenting days she volunteered on Sunday's to teach Catechism to children. Patricia was an artist, avid painter, and gardener and loved the outdoors. Patricia is remembered by friends as always having both an open heart and door to those in need. LERNER, SARA Sara Hammer Lerner, 98, of Rio Rancho, NM, died Saturday, February 28, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 5 at Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Ave, Kansas City, MO followed by burial at Sheffield Cemetery. She was born August 10, 1916 to the late Abe and Esther Hammer, in Kansas City, MO. After graduating from Northeast High School in 1933, she worked as a traveling saleslady for Keller Kosher Foods until she married the late Earl Lerner in 1940. She was a Kansas City area resident until 1990 when she moved to New Mexico where she was an avid elder hostel attendee, a member of the Oasis Singers, a member of the Albuquerque Bio-Park Zoo Boo Board, and a graduate of the Brain Fitness Program. She was an active member of Temple Albert in Albuquerque, NM, a former member of Beth Shalom Synagogue in Kansas City and a lifetime member of Hadassah. She was a longtime volunteer for the Mental Health Association of Johnson County (Outstanding Service Award, Project Breakthrough, 1989), a Democratic poll worker, and a volunteer at Menorah Hospital for a decade. She was an avid basketball fan, following the KU Jayhawks and had a particular fondness for pro player, LeBron James. She loved to cook and feed people. Nothing was more important to her than her family. Sara was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Flora Bernstein and Min Halpern, brothers, Carl and Morris Hammer, and her beloved daughter, Dr. Shelly Lerner Burstein. MINETOS, VASSO born in Patras, Greece, on May 10, 1924, passed away peacefully at home on February, 24, 2015. Vasso is preceded in death by her husband, Chris Minetos, both of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Vasso is survived by her niece, Kalliope Kotsifas and her son, Efthimios Karralis. She is also survived by her nephews, Socrates and Dionisios Zacharopoulos of Munich, Germany. She is also survived by many loving friends of the St. George Greek Orthodox community. Vasso grew up in Patras, Greece, and immigrated to Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1949. The legacy Vasso left behind will remain forever in the hearts of those she touched. Many west siders have fond memories of Vasso as she stood guard as owner of her beloved Panorama and Casa Grande restaurants doing what she loved most, extending her hospitality to all her patrons and serving them her famous homemade bread. In her later years, it brought Vasso great joy when someone would visit her at her home. One could never leave without having a full meal, regardless of if you were hungry or not. Even when her health had declined, her main concern was whether or not her visitors were made to feel at home with a warm meal and plenty of desserts. NELSON, SAM (PHILIP EDWARD) 1939-2015 Sam (Philip Edward) Nelson died on February 19, 2015, at his home on San Pedro Mountain of metastatic prostate cancer. Philip was born in St. Louis, Missouri on March 5, 1939 to Edna Mae Lee Nelson and John Philip Nelson, their only child. Upon his parents' move to Illinois, he grew up in the town of Roodhouse. During the summers, he lived on his grandparents' farm and was called Big Joe to his cousin's Little Jo. Here he learned the great pleasure of eating vine-ripened tomatoes. By the time he was in high school, Phil and his mother were living in El Paso, Texas. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1956 and served as a fireman on the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown. During this service, his real education commenced as he learned welding and fell in love with it. Out of the Navy, he went to Florida for more education as an engineer. This led to a job in an office building, where he learned exactly how much he did not like the "four walls" environment. In the early 1970s, Phil opened New Mexico Motorcycle Accessories, a custom bike shop at the corner of Carlisle and Central in Albuquerque. While the shop flourished, he got interested in wind and solar energy as he and others sought to go "off the grid" and "back to the land" and be as independent as possible. On the sidewalk in front of the shop, solar panels for the geodesic "Domes" were assembled, and passers-by sometimes found themselves recruited to help. When new bike shops saturated the market, he closed his and moved to the East Mountains. While he worked as an escort driver for wide loads, his CB handle was Yosemite Sam. In 1980, he opened South Mountain Wind Generator Service and contracted with Jacobs Wind Generators to do installations in New Mexico and other western states. By now, "Solar" Sam was also exploring passive solar power ideas. With his 44 on his hip, he worked as a "peace-keeper" at the storied, now-gone Golden Inn on Highway 14. By then, the name Sam had permanently replaced Phil. After leaving South Mountain, Sam built his own shop on State Highway 344 and named it Mountain Welding Service. The spacious building contained an interior loft apartment and used passive solar heating. While attending a Halloween party at The Mine Shaft Tavern, a fund-raiser for the Madrid Fire Department, he met Elisa River Stacy. Having heard references to her brother "Trucker," he asked Elisa, "Who is this Trucker? I'm not going to get shot, am I?" She laughed, they danced, and the wedding took place on November 13, 1993 at the shop. The business thrived, and Sam soon acquired additional titles as Mr. Recycle, Reuse, and Repair; Man of Metal; and a reputation as a Wheeler-dealer Horse Trader. Elisa brought creative inspiration that led to the design, fabrication, and installation of decorative metal gates all over New Mexico. The business prospered. Life was good. Sam said he was happiest when working in his shop. Elisa describes him as "a man who said what he meant and meant what he said." His enthusiasms included a good game of pool, green chili, two-step country dancing, the Edgewood Church of Christ, and the San Pedro Neighborhood Association. Sam is survived by his wife Elisa and many friends, customers, and associates. Cremation services were provided by Direct Services of Albuquerque. Elisa is grateful to Dr. Elizabeth Morgan of Palliative Care of New Mexico and nurses Michele and Becky of Hospice of New Mexico, whose care enabled Sam to die at home as he wished. A celebration of Sam's life will begin with a grave side inurnment service at Hyer Cemetery on Simmons Road off of Highway 344 at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, March 7, 2015. Immediately following, all are invited to a pot luck lunch and reception at Sam's Shop at 1530 State Road 344 for food and remembrances.

NEWMAN, PHYLLIS NELSON Phyllis Nelson Newman, age 84, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, great-great- grandmother and friend, passed away Friday, February 13, 2015, surrounded by loved ones in Mountain Home, Arkansas. She is survived by her loving husband of 18 years, Henry Newman. PACHECO, GILLY B. Following a long and active life, Gilly Pacheco, 86, passed away on February 24, 2015. Gilly was a proud member of the 11th Airborne and served during the Korean War. He had great respect for his fellow veterans. Gilly had an unmatched gift of making beautiful music with his Harmonica. He brought smiles to so many over the years when he would pull his harmonica out of his pocket and play music that would literally touch your heart. For that, he'll be greatly missed. Gilly was preceded in death by his son, David; and is survived by his sons, John, Nick (Debbie) and Michael Pacheco and his daughters, Rebecca Villegas (Frank) and Lydia Sanchez (Ron). ROSSIGNOL, MARILYN Marilyn Rossignol lost her battle with Pancreatic Cancer on February 22, 2015 at age 87. Born December 27, 1927 in Chicago Illinois, Marilyn was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque and graduated from Albuquerque High School. She and her husband Richard Rossignol Sr. founded Northeast Auto Electric in 1951. With her sons, the business continues to serve generations of customers. Marilyn was an avid gardener and fisherman and enjoyed camping and swimming. As the neighborhood historian, her vibrant energy made her yard a gathering place for all. Her beautiful intuitive green eyes will always be remembered by family and friends. Preceded in death by her husband Richard, her father Frederick and mother Emma Raymond Broell, and sister Alberta Hamilton. Survived by her siblings Barbara Caughlin and Frederick Broell; children, son Richard Rossignol, Jr. and wife Connie, daughter Connie Callan and husband John, son Mark Rossignol and Susan Reidy; grandchildren Paul Rossignol and wife Lisa, Eve Rossignol, Bart Callan, Danelle Adams and husband Joseph; and the great-grandchildren, Lily and Lola Rossignol. SEDILLO, MARIE CECILIA Age 89, joined her family in heaven on Thursday, February 26, 2015. She is survived by her daughter, Carol A. Sedillo-Romero and son Anselmo Sedillo-Jojola, Rob Sedillo and his wife Linda; and sons Brad and Tony Sedillo; sister, Mary Louise Trambley, brother in law Felix R. Sedillo and many nieces and nephews. She is proceeded in death by her husband in 1991, Anselmo Ramos Sedillo; children, Geri Marie, Pita Marlene, Jennifer Olive and Benedict; sisters, Tillie Trambley and Ernie Moore; brothers, Pete Trambley and Fred Trambley; parents, Pete and Annie Trambley; grandmother, Piedad Archuleta. Marie was born in Mora, New Mexico in 1925. She went to Highland High School and then to Highlands University where she earned an under graduate degree. While Marie continued to teach, she earned a Masters Degree in Spanish. Marie taught Culinary Arts at Luna votech, and continued to teach home economics, art, culinary arts and Spanish. She married Anselmo Sedillo in 1950 and started her family. She has lived and taught in Mora, Las Vegas, Ramah, Laguna Acoma, Alamogordo and Sunland Park. She taught her children to be strong Catholics, honest and fair. She was an artist, chef, wife, mother and Grandmother, she will be greatly missed and her void cannot be filled. WHITE, LOR June 16, 1923 February 27, 2015 When you read this, I will be at the big beautiful golf course in the sky waiting for my tee time. What a wondrous life it has been. Born in California (second generation) with loving parents and a beautiful sister, Sally, who gave me four handsome nephews. I was married to Samuel Behrens, who came up here much too soon. I have two terrific daughters, Samantha Blauwkamp, married to Rol, making her a stepmother to nine adult children and grandmother to 16 little ones. (He loved to call me his "precious mother-in-law!") Donna Motsinger, married to Ted, a wonderful man of many talents. Those two gave me three special grandsons, Dylan, Luke, married to Rachel, and Jeffrey married to Melissa who gave me my great-granddaughter, Kaileigh. All though living far away from us but very much in our hearts are Raychel, Whitley, Brandon, Nolan, Jeff, Tara, and Hailey. In 1969, while visiting friends in Hawaii I met Van White. Little did I think a year later I would be living in the "Land of Enchantment" married to my precious Van, who became a loving father to my girls. We shared 44 years sharing new adventures, seeing a lot of this world, and a love that was so special. Because of Van's well-known and respected business, Albuquerque Safe Company, I was invited on the Board of Directors of various organizations. What fun it was to be on the Oversight Building Committee for the new Albuquerque Convention Center. What an honor to be the first woman to tour the site (although a hard hat really ruins a hairdo). Being a part of the Navy League, when it was being established in New Mexico, was another great experience. An interesting board was the Better Business Bureau. Amazing what people have to complain about and also how some businesses are run. The Pilot Club had an outstanding membership and was known for giving to the community. The Santa Fe Opera was enriched by an amazing group of women in the Albuquerque Opera Guild. We spent hours preparing and hosting the most exquisite formal holiday dinner parties for several years with all of the proceeds going to the Opera. Knowing my love of theater, I was on and off the Board of Directors of the Albuquerque Little Theater for several years. That was years of fun. The year I was treasurer they would place a large L in the theater window. This would tell me, when I was on my way to the Albuquerque Country Club, that they needed me to come in and sign checks! Being a part of the theater was a grand experience. One of my most rewarding board experiences was working on the Board of Goodwill Industries. Spending 23 years with them and honored to serve three years as President. Van and I re-established the Mercedes Benz Club in 1973 and what fun times we've had all these years. Serving on the Amapola Garden Club Board was a delight. While my illness prevented me from becoming club president, the club made me their Honorary 2015 President. What a great bunch of gals. I was honored to have been involved with the Sun Country Golf Association almost since its inception. The Association benefits and represents all amateur golfers. Being a board member involved traveling to various golf courses around the State and El Paso. They do so much work for tournaments, rules, course measurements and are responsible for our handicaps, among many other duties. Having broken my leg skiing (6 months in a cast), I had to give up tennis and golf became my real passion. In those days, we "girls" from the Albuquerque Country Club (the best country club in the State) traveled all around New Mexico playing in special tournaments including some in Arizona. What a bunch of fun gals. They're all up here now playing lots of golf and bridge, and waiting for me to teach them Mah-Jongg. Being a member of the Women's Golf Association I became a Board Member on and off for years, serving as President in 1984. Those were wonderful years. So many talented women to have as friends and so many golf games, lunches, and parties almost every weekend at the Club. What a life! Gotta go. They just called us, God's "Fearsome Foursome," to the tee box. We're a heck of a team. My partners are Dylan, Bria, and Reva Jo. My favorite caddy is my adorable son, Robin, who is always telling me to keep my head down. See ya, but not too soon I hope. P.S. No funeral. Much too boring.
