GODFREY, FAY Age 81, passed away to be with her Lord on Thursday, May 29, 2014, in Albuquerque. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Richard Godfrey, in 2006. Fay was born October 10, 1932 in Jacksonville, Texas, and moved to Albuquerque in 1951. Fay and Dick enjoyed music and traveling to Mexico. Fay loved her cherry red 1966 Corvette and took pride in being one of the oldest members of the Corvette Club. She was also a hot air balloon enthusiast, attending every Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta event since the first one in 1972, earning her pilot's license in 1992, and acquiring her own balloon, Blaze of Glory, in 1994. Fay is survived by her sister, Roger Uhler, Louisville, Kentucky; daughter, Debbie Kiser and husband, Scott, Frederick, MD; daughter, Gayle Godfrey, Albuquerque; son, Bryan Godfrey and wife, Teresa, Albuquerque; grandchildren, Sean Martin and wife, Jamie, El Paso, Jake Kiser, North Carolina, Lauren Kiser, Melbourne, Australia, and Lisa Smith and husband, Corbin, Albuquerque; great-granddaughter, Sierra Martin, El Paso. HOELZEL, MARY JEANNE SCOTT Mary Jeanne Scott Hoelzel, age 72, of Rio Rancho NM, died Sunday, May 25, 2014. The daughter of William Benning Scott and Maxine Margaret McMurry, she was born in Chattanooga, TN and raised in Cincinnati, OH and Louisville, KY. She graduated from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL in 1964. She worked in the property title industry until her last position before retirement as a high school teacher's assistant working with developmentally challenged students at South High School, Crystal Lake, IL. She is survived by her husband, William N. Hoelzel, III; and by their children Philip N. Hoelzel of Austin TX, Stephanie Anne Hoelzel and her husband Paul Huygens of Henderson, NV, and Andrew J. Hoelzel and his wife Evelyn (Valencia) Hoelzel of Fort Collins, CO. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Thalia Grace Huygens, William Gunner Hoelzel, Bren Scott Huygens, and Liliana Maria Hoelzel. In addition, she is survived by a sister Patricia Scott Meyer, her husband Bren, and a nephew Andrew Meyer, all of Alameda, CA, and a brother William Scott of Boise, ID. A Requiem Eucharist will be held at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, Albuquerque, NM, on Monday, June 2, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. A Requiem Eucharist will be held at a later time at St. Mary Episcopal Church, Crystal, Lake IL, with the interment of ashes immediately following in the Parish's Churchyard. JOHNSON, PHILIP HUNT Philip Hunt Johnson (Buzzy) went home to be with our Lord on Friday, May 23, 2014. He was born on June 4th, 1937 to John Bahe Johnson of Indian Wells, AZ and Josephine Hunt of Acoma, NM. Phil was preceded in death by his wife Carol Johnson and his sister Thelma Velez. He is survived by his sons, Michael Johnson and wife Charlene, son Chris and grandson Hunter, Frank Nunn and wife Lucy, and children Valentina and Abraham, Bryan Nunn and fiance LaiLonnie Garcia, and children Andre, David and Julia, his daughters Roxanne and Janet and his many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Phil is also survived by his brothers Johnny Johnson and wife Nancy, Gary Johnson and wife Gloria. Phil touched the lives of everyone he met and he considered ALL his family. Phil loved to have a house full of love, laughter and music and with all his nieces, nephews and extended family, love was never in short supply. A viewing for Phil will be held Saturday, May 31st at 1:00 pm with a celebration of his life to follow at 2:00 pm at Riverside Funeral Home, 225 San Mateo NE. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to have you make a donation to the charity of your choice. After the service has been completed we will be releasing balloons in Phil's honor. LEWIS, LOUISE A. died peacefully on Thursday, May 22, 2014, at the age of 96. She was the wife of the late Lowell C. Lewis (Lt. Col., USAF, Ret.), to whom she was married for 65 years, and the mother of the late Deborah J. Lewis. Louise is survived by her daughter, Andrea C. Lewis and son-in-law, Wendell Tangborn of Vashon, Washington. She was born in Washington DC on November 21, 1917, the daughter of Olga M. and Herman C. Aafjes, Sr. She grew up in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, and moved to Albuquerque in 1952. She worked at Sandia as a Library Assistant for 22 years. After retiring in 1976, she enjoyed volunteering at the old St. Joseph's Hospital. She belonged to St. Paul Lutheran Church and volunteered there as well. Louise was witty, well-read, hard-working, and unfailing in her willingness to help others. She loved traveling with her husband, playing bridge and writing letters, maintaining life-long correspondences with many friends. A special thank-you to her care-givers at The Garland House. Mrs. Lewis will be interred with her husband at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe. NEHER, LELAND K. Leland K. Neher passed away on May 25, 2014 at the age of 93. He was born in Porterville, California on December 2, 1920 to John & Lena Neher. Leland married Margaret Ruth Farris, his partner and wife of 71 years, in 1943. They started a family and in 1953 moved to Los Alamos where Leland worked at LANL until his retirement in 1982. Leland and Margaret enjoyed retirement together through music, camping, gardening and keeping up with extended family. Leland was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lena Neher, and his siblings, Elreno, Viola, Victor and Bernice. Leland is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret; their sons John, Doug, Brian, Mike, Paul and Patrick; and their daughter Kathleen. A private remembrance was held at his home in Los Alamos.

ORTIZ, JUAN Age 83, loving husband, father and grandfather went home to be with our Lord and Savior Thursday, May 29, 2014 . He was born in El Pueblo, New Mexico where he spent nearly all his life. Mr. Ortiz adored his family and loved spending time at his home in El Pubelo where he tended to his land, his garden and all his animals. Mr. Ortiz retired from West Las Vegas Schools as a maintenance employee where he enjoyed his daily interaction with the staff, educators and mostly the children. He is preceded in death by his daughter Dianna Ortiz, his son Dennis Ortiz, his brothers Antonio and Samuel Ortiz, his sisters Feliz Vigil and Bernie Gallegos, his brothers-in-law Jose Gallegos and Andelico Gallegos. Juan was survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Aurelia B. Ortiz; daughter, Margarita Ortiz y Flippo and husband Joseph; son Chris Ortiz and wife Grace; son Ernest Ortiz and wife Judy; daughter Judy Gonzales and husband Gary; grandchildren Thomasinia Ortiz-Gallegos and husband Antonio, Melanie Flippo, Amanda Ortiz, Chantel and Julia Gonzales, Audrey Ortiz, Ernest Jon Ortiz, Jacob Flippo, Chris Ortiz Jr. and wife Tammy, Anthony Ortiz, and Elijah Gonzales; great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Noah, Samuel, Deanna, Stephanie, Alyssa, Selena, Christina, Jonathon, Maria Theresa, and Itzel Denise; great-great-grandchild Rylee; and numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. PADILLA, ADOLFO T. SR. age 48, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away May 28, 2014. Adolfo is survived by his wife, Dee; children, Amanda Padilla, Felicia Padilla, Charmaine Padilla, and Adolfo Padilla Jr.; sisters, Judy Lucero, and Gabriella Padilla; brothers, Benny Padilla, and Alfred Padilla; seven grandchildren; two nieces; eight nephews; gradnieces; grand nephews; and many other extended family members and friends. Visitation will be Sunday, June 01, 2014 from 1:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 2:00 p.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel. PENDLETON, RALPH EDWARD SR. loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, husband, veteran of World War II, businessman and friend of many, passed away on May 24, 2014 in Raton, New Mexico at nearly 90 years of age. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Alexander Pendleton and Eula Hanna Pendleton and by his wife of nearly 40 years, Bobbie Ruth Hilliard Pendleton. Ralph was born in Roy, New Mexico in 1924 and after graduating from Roy High School attended the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque at a time in that city's early history when he described the campus as "sitting all by itself in the desert above the valley town." During these formative years, Ralph was a musician, part of the honor society, a fraternity member and an accomplished athlete, playing baseball for the New Mexico Lobos college team. After graduating college with a degree in Geology, and with the world at war in the mid 1940s, Ralph joined the Navy and completed flight training in Corpus Christi, Texas where he was awarded his pilot wings. Around this time, he wed the love of his life, Bobbie Ruth Hilliard, and together they commenced a marriage and life journey as a military family. The couple borne three sons and traveled to various military bases over the course of his Navy career including Washington DC, Virginia, Morocco Africa, Nebraska and Honolulu, Hawaii. His service duties included those of a Naval Aviator, a Strategic Air Command European Intelligence Representative and a joint staff officer for the Commander in Chief, Pacific Fleet, at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He attained the rank of Lt. Commander during his 26 year military service. Ralph remained in Hawaii after his retirement from the Navy, during which time he taught mathematics at a local intermediate high school. Soon thereafter in 1969 he returned to Raton, New Mexico with his family in tow and began working for the family business, Pendleton Oil and Gas Company. He worked throughout business locations in northern New Mexico as a managing officer of the company well into his 80s. Ralph is survived by elder sister Jean Pendleton Filkins; by his sons Ralph Jr., Matthew and Ned; five grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; as well as numerous other family relations. Thanks go out for the kind care Ralph received during his stay at Colfax Senior Care Assisted Living and also for the services provided by Sangre De Cristo Hospice. During his lifetime, Ralph was a benefactor to a number of charitable organizations and a supporter of health industry causes including March of Dimes, Alzheimer's Association and the American Cancer Foundation. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the surviving family requests that donations be made to these and other organizations of choice. A memorial service is planned for June 6, 2014 at the Yaksich - Long Funeral Home in Raton located at 1310 South Second Street at 11:00 am that morning. ROSS, THOMAS E. SR. Maj. Thomas E. Ross, Sr., U.S. Army (Ret.) 75, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away, May 28th, 2014. He was born in Concord, NC September 21st, 1938. Tom attended The Citadel Military College of South Carolina and joined the United States Army in 1959. An Airborne Ranger with the 173rd, he was awarded a Bronze Star with Oakleaf Cluster during two tours in Vietnam. First as a Field Artillery Commander and later as a military historian. He retired in 1979. This July 2nd would have marked the 54th anniversary of marriage to the love of his life, Susan S. Ross. His quick, dry wit, welcoming smile, quiet confidence and stern eye when needed, drew people to him for socializing and his sage advice. He is survived by his wife; three children: Wendy, Thomas Jr. and wife Donna, and Carrie; his grandchildren: Rion, Tyler, Travis, Kamen, Jack, Caitlin, Donovan and Emily; and great-granddaughter Addison. A military funeral will be held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on a date to be determined. A Wake in his honor will be held at the home of Tom and Sue on Saturday, May 31st, 2014 at 4pm.
