BARAJAS, YSIDRO JR. Age, 65, a lifelong resident of Corrales, the most loving husband, caring father, and amazing grandfather, completed his life's journey way too early, Sunday, July 20, 2014. As he departed to join our Lord in heaven he will be greeted by his parents, Ysidro, Sr. and Dolores (Lucero) Barajas; his mother and father-in-law, Antonio and Adeline Cordova. Ysidro is survived by his faithful wife and best friend, of 39 years, Jacqueline "Jackie" Cordova-Barajas; son, Eric James and wife Shelly and their child; grandson, Carlos Antonio Ysidro Barajas; son, Joseph Steven and wife Jennifer, their children; granddaughters, Madilyn Elizabeth, Katelyn Elora; grandsons, Jacob Elijah and Joseph Elias Barajas; his daughter, Carol Marie Barajas; brothers, Tony, Pete, Patrick, Toby; sister, Odie; special aunt, Mary; numerous relatives and friends. Ysidro was a member of the San Ysidro Parish in Corrales. Ysidro has touched the lives of everyone he knew and always had a way of making lifelong friends. Ysidro was an extraordinary caring and loving soul and leaves a void in this world and in the lives of his family and all who knew him. BLEA, ALICE "ALICIA" Alice "Alicia" Blea, age 96, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, passed away gently and quickly, Monday, July 21, 2014. She is survived by her sons, Davi Henley y Blea, his wife, Ester Luffman-Henley, Lloyd S. Tapia and his wife, Joyce; ten grandchildren Gene and wife, Kathy, Mark and wife, Cathy, Dean and wife, Liz, Leonard and wife, Edna, Maria and partner, Valerie, Lisa and partner, Roxanne, Steve, Maria and husband, Juan, Lloyd J. and wife, Antoinette, Monique and husband, Daniel; many great-grandchildren & great- great-grandchildren; and brother, Librado "Libby" Blea. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Cordova, and long-time friend, Alex Lucero; parents, Alcario and Ricardita Blea; brother, Rosendo Blea, and great-granddaughter, Laila Rose. Mrs. Blea was very active at the Los Lunas Senior Center. She worked as a Foster Grandparent for five years. BLESSING, LARRY DEAN "D.B." M.D. Our beloved Larry Blessing "DB" went Home to be with Jesus on Sunday, July 20, 2014. Larry was born in Bethany, Missouri to William Vodra and Lenora Bernice (Salmon) Blessing on October 23, 1942. Larry married Mary Jane Cox in 1959 and graduated with honors from Harrison High School in 1960. He received a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Biology and earned a Medical Doctor's degree from University of Missouri, Columbia in 1974. He attended the University of Kansas from 1974 through 1977 for his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine. Following that, he returned to the University of Missouri for a Fellowship in Gastroenterology from 1977-1978. Larry was a dedicated doctor to his patients, loved being a physician and truly enjoyed his many years of practice. Those who worked with Dr. Blessing adored and admired him and were his dearest friends. He began blessing and saving lives in Albany, Missouri, continued his career in Morgantown, West Virginia and ultimately moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where he finished his career as Chief Gastroenterologist at Lovelace Medical Center. After a long and satisfying career, Dr. Blessing retired in 1999 and within the same year became accepted as a member of The National Registry Of Who's Who. Larry's heart was remarkably big as he was a dear brother, husband, father, step-father, grandfather, and surrogate to those who needed a father. Larry had a grand sense of humor and wouldn't watch a movie without a bucket of buttered popcorn by his side. Larry spent his retirement years serving and loving his church family. Larry loved gardening and fondly reminisced on his years as a farmer; his tomatoes, sweet corn and green chile were unbeatable. Larry is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Janet Blessing; his children, Christopher (Debbie) Blessing, Roxanna (Larry) Braaten, Paul (Sharon) Blessing, Brian Blessing, Samantha (Michael) Gabaldon and Chris (Lori) Partain; as well as 13 grandchildren; one great- grandchild and another Blessing expected to arrive next year. Larry D. Blessing was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Leta (Blessing) Landes; brother, Charles Blessing; sister, Beverly (Blessing) Shipers; and nephew, Gregory Blessing. BURGAN, ROBERT LESTER WEST HAVEN, UT - Robert (Bob) Lester Burgan, 95, passed away on July 17, 2014. He was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan on July 19, 1918 to Lester A. and Essie Burgan. Bob graduated from the University of Michigan and completed graduate study at the University of New Mexico. He was an adjunct professor of Park Management at UNM. Bob retired from the City of Albuquerque as Parks and Recreation Director/ Planner in 1981. Bob received numerous awards from organizations, government agencies, boards, councils and committees. His proudest accomplishments were the Los Altos; Arroyo del Oso; Puerto del Sol and Ladera golf courses, director of the Albuquerque Zoo; many tennis complexes, community centers, swimming pools, ball fields, and parks. He loved all sports especially tennis and golf. He was an avid reader. He is survived by daughter Barbara; his cousin Georgia; and special love Letitia. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, wife Mildred (Jeri) and son Robert (Gary). A graveside service will be held in honor of his life on Friday, July 25, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd., NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico. BRAY, LILA MAY (LEWIS) The second child of eight, Lila May (Lewis) Bray was born in Elkhart, KS, December 5, 1927 to the late Clifford Hugh Gilbert Lewis and Thelma Fay (Dorris) Lewis. The family alternately moved between New Mexico, Kansas and California while Lila was growing up during the Great Depression. On April 1, 1949, Lila married Orval Leonard Bray in California, and there they added four children to their family. In 1978, the family moved back to New Mexico to be nearer to some of Lila's siblings who were her comfort when Orval passed away in 1981. A joy-filled Christian, quiet and loving, with a great sense of humor, yet an expressive mind of her own, Lila enjoyed reading and playing games with her family, attending church and hosting bible studies, as well as being a member of a bowling league and a crocheting club. However, if asked, Lila would tell you her greatest joy was being a wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother, sister and aunt. All who knew her unanimously agree that she had a gift for always making them feel loved and accepted. Lila dealt bravely with the trial of vascular dementia for the past eight years, alternately living with her daughters in Las Vegas, NV and Los Alamos, NM for the last six. She was mercifully healed at her eldest daughter's home on June 27, 2014 surrounded by her family's love, when she was peacefully ushered to her final home with her Savior Jesus Christ. She will continue to be greatly missed until we meet her there. She is survived by four children: Evelyn Fay Castillo (husband Robert Castillo) of Las Vegas, NV; Jeffrey Bray (ex-wife Marian Flandrick) of Rio Rancho, NM; Thomas Ned Bray (wife Connie Bray) of Gresham, OR; Heather Cunico (husband Craig Cunico) of Los Alamos, NM; ten grandchildren: Lukas Castillo (Christian); Rebekah Castillo; Timothy Castillo (Brittany) of NV; Andrew Castillo (Faith) of NJ; James Bray of OR; Piper Bray, and Domenic, Logan, Macklin and Gabriel Cunico of NM; great- grandchildren: Christopher, Nathan, Joshua, Hannah and Miriam Castillo and Angelica Ricarte. Lila was preceded in death by her sister Patsy Webster. Surviving siblings are: Hugh (Betty) Lewis; Henry (Liz) Lewis; Ronald Lewis; Rex (Sharon) Lewis; Karen (LeRoy) Ortega; and Thelma-Ann (Edward) Wilson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial celebration of Lila's life will be held at 3:00 pm July 27, 2014, Crossroads Bible Church, 97 East Rd., Los Alamos, NM 87544. Cremains will be interred at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. GALLEGOS, CHARLES It is with great regret to announce the departure of a beloved brother, uncle, brother-in-law, godfather, great-uncle, and true angel. Anyone who knew Charles Eugene Gallegos knew what a wonderful man and mentor he was to everyone. God blessed us with his presence on August 22, 1955 and called him home on July 18, 2014. GARCIA, FLORA Age 75, of Rio Rancho, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2014. She was born September 9, 1938, in Cabezon, NM to Solomon and Laura Lovato. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Rudy Lovato. She is also survived by her lifelong best friend, Edwina Barela. Flora married the love of her life, Maurice Garcia, on August 25, 1956. They lived in Albuquerque and started a family and then moved to Southern California, where their children grew up. They returned to the Albuquerque area in 1992. Flora loved to be around her family and became the family matriarch after the death of her mother. Her life was her children and family. Her greatest joys in life were her grandchildren. Her eyes would always light up when she saw them enter a room. Flora was known for her cooking especially her cakes and her love of bingo. HERMAN, CARL J. Carl J. Herman, 67, of Albuquerque, died peacefully in his home. JORDAN, PAUL Age 85, passed away Monday night at home. Paul was born March 13, 1929 in Champaign Co., OH to Lee and Zona Jordan. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mae Raeber and Zella Gilliam and his son Gary. He is survived by his wife, of 64 years, Betty Jean; daughters Paula Jean Bing of Albuquerque & Beverly Whitney of Washington, MO; grandchildren Michelle Spear, Heather Silvey, Tiffany Duzeski, Lisa Bridgeford, Paul Bing, Christina Kellough and Denise Whitney; and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Jane Dooley and Delcie Timson and brothers Bill and Floyd; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many friends. Paul retired from General Electric after 25 years in 1989, before that he had worked at ACF. MAESTAS, LARRY age 64, born December 1, 1949 to Flavio and Soterita Maestas, was raised and resided in Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away on July 21, 2014. Larry was preceded in death by his wife Charlotte, his father Flavio, his mother Soterita and his brother Sam. He is survived by his son Mark and wife Stephanie; son Edward; grandchildren Estevan and Mia; son Ken Tyger; brother Flavio; brother Anthony; his brother David; and sister Marie Duran and husband John Paul. Larry was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during Vietnam and was retired from the Public Service Company of New Mexico as a Lineman. He was decorated with a National Defense Service Medal, was a M14 Marksman and M16 Expert. MARTINEZ, JOHN A. Age 83, John peacefully went to be with the Lord on July 22, 2014. He was born in Raton, New Mexico on November 10, 1930. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Abel and Paulita Martinez and nine loving brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rachel; son and wife, John and Julie; daughters, Sandy and Lori; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren plus numerous family and friends who will miss him deeply. John graduated from St. Patrick's Catholic Academy in Raton. John was a member of the United States Air Force and served proudly in the Korean War. He attended and graduated from business college in Albuquerque, NM where he met his wife, Rachel. John was employed by Dixon Paper Co. for 40 years. John was an active member of The Shrine of St. Bernadette and served the Lord and his community as an usher and a Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. After retirement, John and Rachel were able to make numerous trips to Europe and enjoyed traveling worldwide. John was an avid golfer, bowler, fisherman and in his retirement took up painting, ceramic and wood crafts. MINERO, BETTY "BETTY BOOP" "GRAMMY" Age 89, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2014. There are countless others that were adopted by Grammy at her favorite hangout, the Barelas Coffee House. Always with a warm smile and bright eyes, you could find her sitting at her favorite table, 9A or at the counter eating honey or drinking half and half. MORIARTY, LINDA CHESS Linda died on July 2, 2014 from complications resulting from a stroke. Linda had a very sunny and warm personality and a fighting spirit that she maintained even after her stroke. Linda was born February 6, 1932, to James (DDS), and Dorothy (concert violinist) Chess in San Marino, California. She was very respectful and loyal to her parents. Linda followed in her father's footsteps and graduated from the University of New Mexico. Linda pledged the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority where she was recently recognized for being an Alumna for 50 years. Linda became a school teacher and taught Language Arts at Wilson and Jackson Middle schools in the 60's and 70's. As a member of First Presbyterian, Linda had served as an Elder and was currently serving as a Deacon at the time of her death. She was an active volunteer in numerous church projects including, her favorite which was serving as a reading tutor for students at Longfellow Elementary. Linda was an excellent athlete and always stayed fit and trim. Her favorite sport growing up was tennis and in recent years, she had taken up golf. Her weekly regimen for the last 25 years included four days of jazzercise. Linda also loved animals and always had at least one cat or dog. Linda is survived by her daughter Leslie Ann and three granddaughters, Natasha, Katie and Jessica Souther. She is also survived by her beloved cat, Clarity. A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held in the Sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church of Albuquerque on Saturday, July 26 at 10:00 am. A Reception will follow in Fellowship Hall.

PEREZ, EMILIO Age 22, of Albuquerque, passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2014 in Albuquerque. Emilio was born on December 30, 1991 in Albuquerque to Jose Perez and Sylvia (Ulibarri). He was raised in Albuquerque and attended Horizon Academy West, John Adams Mid High, West Mesa and Highland High Schools. He played basketball with the Boys and Girls Club in Old Town and was currently a call center representative with T-Mobile in Albuquerque and had previously worked with Sitel and AT&T in Albuquerque. He is survived by his father, Jose Perez; his mother, Sylvia; brother, Antonio Perez, all of Albuquerque; grandmother, Mary Ulibarri of Pueblo, CO; brothers, Jerry and Gabriel Perez; many aunts, uncles, cousins and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Narciso Ulibarri. A rosary service will be held on Thursday, July, 24, 2014, 7:00 p.m., at FRENCH-Westside with a reception from 8:00-10:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. QUINTANA, DAVID David Quintana, 76, went to be with the Lord on July 18th, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Gallup, NM, and a graduate of Gallup High. He proudly served in the US Army and was a loyal employee of Roberts Trucking. Dave will be greatly missed by all who knew him in the trucking community. He is survived by his loving wife of forty-nine years Barbara of the family home; daughters Ronda Morehead and son Devin, of Rio Rancho, Tanya Dodds and sons Jared Scheffler (wife Shannon) of Albuquerque, and Justin Sheffler, of Pilot Point, TX, Victoria Sanchez (husband Kevin) and children Heather Reiter (husband Alex) and Cody Sanchez of Los Lunas, Stacy Hinkle, son Skylar Quintana and great- granddaughter Aria Scheffler of Albuquerque; brothers Rudy Quintana (wife June), Ray Quintana, Johnny Quintana (wife Theresa) of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his parents Jesus and Adela Quintana of Gallup, brothers Simon and Paul Quintana; sisters Rosie and Irene, sister-in-law Lorraine Quintana and beloved grandson Dakota Shinaver. Services will be held at 9:00AM Friday, 7/25, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 3424 4th St., 87107. RAPHAEL, CHRISTOPHER JAN was born August 10, 1973 in Elyria, Ohio. He passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at his home in Albuquerque at the age of 40, after a long battle with cancer. Chris honorably served his country in the US Navy, retiring after 20 years of dedicated service. He was very active and involved in officiating and coaching children's sports, something he thoroughly enjoyed volunteering for. As well, Chris was a member of the Warrior Brotherhood Veteran Motorcycle Club. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Beverly Stotts; maternal grandparents, Charles and Sally White and by his sister, Chrissy. Chris is survived by his mother, Linda Raphael; father, Jan Raphael; brother, Camren Raphael; spouse, Jennifer Pulford-Raphael; sons, Elijah Benton and Ethan Raphael; daughter, Olivia Raphael; aunt, Brenda Christianson; as well as numerous great aunts, uncles, cousins, other family members and many friends who loved and will miss him greatly. A Memorial Service will be held at Albuquerque Bible Church, 320 Montano Rd. NW, on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 1:00pm with US Navy Retired Honors. SANTISTEVAN, MARK AMBROSE was born on March 28, 1957 and passed away on July 13, 2014. Mark is survived by his father, Pete Santistevan, Sr.; children Lauren, Janis, John, Daisy, Dorothe and Mark; his grandchildren; siblings Pete Santistevan, Anna (Paul) LeFebre, Ellen (Leroy) Salazar, Patrick (Judy) Santistevan, Matthew (Brigette) Santistevan; sister-in-law Christina Santistevan; numerous nieces and nephews; and his former spouse. Mark was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothe and brothers Paul, Mike and Myron, and sister Patricia. After graduating from Bernalillo High School, Mark enlisted in the US Army and served his country honorably. Mark then attended NM Highlands University graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1982 with a degree in Physics and Math. Mark was a very talented woodcarver and jeweler and he took great joy in creating beautiful works of art. Mark spent the last few years living with and caring for his father, and had recently been hired at the VA Hospital. There will be a Rosary followed by the Celebration of Mass on Friday, July 25, 2014 at Our Lady of Sorrow Catholic Church in Bernalillo, NM at 10:00 am, Msgr. Anthony Bolman officiating.

SERRANO, RODNEY L. "ROD" Rod Serrano, husband, father, son, brother, firefighter, Shriner, loyal friend, handsome, debonair, Man about Albuquerque, passed away unexpectedly last Friday, July 18, 2014, at Presbyterian Hospital, after a brief illness. He was 84 years old. Rod began his journey through this life on September 16, 1929, being born to George and Violet Serrano, as the fifth of what would be 15 children. He grew up in the Depression/ WWII era Old Town, San Diego, where the Serrano clan had lived for several generations, and had the run of the town. Shortly after WWII, in 1949, Rod joined the U.S. Air Force, and after a brief stint with Radar repair, moved into what would be his life-long career and passion, Fire Protection and Crash Rescue. While serving at Forbes Field in Topeka, Kansas, he met his "baby doll", Jean, married her in 1954, and remained married to her over 60 years, until they shared his final breath last Friday. After a long and storied military career, wherein he served all over the world, Rod retired from the USAF in 1975. Following retirement, that same year, he took a civilian position with the Fire Protection Service at Kirtland Air Force Base, and relocated to Albuquerque, where he served until retirement in 1997. In 1984, because of his passionate dedication to Fire Protection and those affected by fire, and the focus and mission of the Masonic/Shriner organizations on supporting those impacted by fire, Rod committed to the Masonic Order at Mesa Lodge #68, beginning his journey to become a Shriner, joining the Ballut Abyad Shrine in 1986. Rod was an ardent and fervent supporter of all things Shrine, an allegiance that would culminate in his serving as Potentate for the Shrine of New Mexico in 2002. Rod also served with zeal as a member of numerous groups within the Shrine Ballut Adyad Patrol, The Greeters, the Loco Patrol, the Royal Order of Jesters and Billiken Club, the "Q", Oso Negro Teocalli #44 as well as being an honorary member in several other groups. Rod was preceded in death by his parents, George and Violet Serrano; brothers, George A. Serrano, Jr, and Robert E. Serrano; sisters, Barbara Bohannon, Geraldine Rudasill, and Bette June Marciel. He is survived by his wife, Jean, and their sons, Steven, Ron (Celeste) and Rick (Mary); grandchildren, Melissa Pickens (Wayne), Carey Hurley, Aaron Hurley (Ashley), Derrick Serrano, Jeremy DeLong (Kayla), Rikki Jean Lopez, Anne Marie Silva and little guy Christian Serrano; as well as eight great-grandchildren. He was also blessed with "Children of the Heart" Michael and Maggie Gray and their son Sean, Sara and Mark Fordice, and their children Brianna and Julian. His surviving siblings are sisters, Georgia Drummond, Mary Jo Serrano, Susie Peebles, Sonia Gonsalves, and Lana Hewlett (Edward); and brothers, Edward, James (Mary), Louis, Leonard (Kathleen). There are pending memorial services and interment, to take place in San Diego, CA. There will be announcements as those plans are finalized. STABINSKI, NORMA D. Age 85, a resident of Albuquerque since 2004, passed away July 21, 2014. She is survived by her daughter, Rosann Stabinski; grandsons, Andrew Witt, David Witt and Joshua Witt; and great-grandchildren, Steven Witt and Delilah Witt. Norma retired from ADT in Clifton, New Jersey in 1988. Until her illness, she was an active member of The Shrine of St. Bernadette.
