APODACA, JULIAN In loving memory of Julian Apodaca, age 63, born August 24, 1950 in Albuquerque, NM, and passed away on June 26, 2014 in Moreno Valley, CA. He leaves behind his wife JoAnne Apodaca; two daughters Laura Apodaca and Teri Apodaca-Apa; his father and mother, Joseph And Laura Romero; brothers Joe, Dale, and Anthony; and sisters Rita Long and Annie Lucero. Julian grew up in La Puente, CA where he graduated high school, then went onto join the family's welding business. Julian was a great man who was just happy to be alive, was an accomplished skier, was an avid Parrot Head, and enjoyed traveling. His favorite place to visit is on the Island of Maui. Julian will be remembered as having a permanent smile on his face, appreciated a good joke and looked on the brighter side of life. Julian has gone to a better place, and is probably skiing some wild mountain whilst enjoying the company of his beloved dog Snuggles. Services to be announced.

BROOKS, BETTY Age 85, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2014. She is survived by her daughter, Beth Stewart and husband Bill; her son, Bart; daughter-in-law, Valerie; brothers-in-law, Don and wife Rose and Carl and wife Mary Jane; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Bob; her son, Bob; her parents, Earl and Vista; and her sister-in-law, Jean. Betty was a member of Netherwood Park Church of Christ for over 60 years. She devoted thousands of hours to volunteer work both church and non-church related. Ever humble, she did not realize how many people at church knew, admired and loved her. She influenced many by her Christian example. Betty enjoyed spending time with her kids and reading, gardening, cooking and travel. Pursuant to Betty's wishes, no public ceremony is scheduled. FITZGERALD, BEATRICE SELSOR Age 94, she was born on May 13, 1920 in Hoxie, AK. Her next journey began on Friday, July 10, 2014, as she left to join family and loved ones. She will be missed by all who remember the generous and giving heart of "Bea." She was preceded in death by her husband, William Roy; parents, Luther and Claudia; brother, Lawrence; sister, Lucille; and two grandsons, Virgil and Jimmy. She is survived by daughter, Ann; life-friend, Juanita; a large church family; and students and caregivers. Bea traveled some before settling in Albuquerque 50 plus years ago. She retired from American Furniture, but continued her humanitarian efforts and volunteer work. Bea was one of the original fundraisers and founders of Noon Day Ministries when she still attended Broadway Baptist Church. She continued her worship and music while attending Del Norte Baptist Church. She played piano all her life, and as with her education, she always excelled. Her ongoing support for the NM Scholarship funds was never ending. She enjoyed receiving the many letters from recipients over the years (too many to mention). She would say "Continue your education and fulfill your dreams." A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, 11:00 a.m., at FRENCH - University. Private interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. In lieu of flowers please "pay it forward" by making a donation to a local charity to help feed the homeless. GARCIA, ANGELA J. Age 64, resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully July 12, 2014 surrounded by her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her father Alfred V. Martinez. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Robert L. Garcia. She is also survived by her daughter Renee Garcia and fiance Rick Shean; son Robert Garcia and wife Ednalyn; grandchildren Brian, Eric, Angelo, Riley and Isabella; mother Lillie Martinez; her sisters Barbara Martinez & husband Ruben, Terry Trujillo and husband Tony, Connie Chavez and husband Tim; brothers Alfred Martinez Jr. and wife Janis, Vincent Martinez; mother-in-law Ramona Garcia; brother-in-law Edward Garcia and wife Nicki; sister-in-law Teresa Sanchez and husband Jimmy; and many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Angela was a career federal employee with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service when she retired in 2006. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 15th at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna Road NW from 5:00pm - 6:00pm. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00pm. Mass of a Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 16th at 11:00am at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Interment at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30pm. HURWITZ, SHIRLEY Age 89, a resident of Albuquerque since 1972, died Friday, July 11, 2014. She is survived by her spouse of 66 years, Leon Hurwitz; children, Elaine Beckett, and William Hurwitz and wife, Carla; grandchildren, April, Seth and wife, Ashley, Nova, Crystal, and Eva; great-grandchildren, Kera, Kelsie, Chris, and Everest; and nephews, Jay Steinberg and wife, Paula, and Rick Steinberg. Shirley was preceded in death by her father Isadore Epstein, mother, Ida Epstein, and sister, Elinor Steinberg. Shirley was a graduate of the Eastman School of Music. She was musical director of the Joyful Sounds singing group for many years, and active in community theaters. Shirley was a member of Hadassah and served as president of the Albuquerque Chapter. Her strong spirit, zest for life, and compassion for others will be missed by her family and friends. A memorial service was held at Temple Albert, 3800 Louisiana Blvd, NE, on Monday, July 14, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. with a reception that followed. LOPEZ, EDWARD E. 1922 - 2014 Edward E. Lopez, a World War II veteran, passed away at his home in Peralta, NM on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at age 92. He was born in Dawson, New Mexico on April 19, 1922 to the late Pedro Antonio and Frances Barela Lopez. Ed worked for the United States Corp of Engineers until he was drafted into the United States Army and served in the China Burma India theatre. A graduate of the University of New Mexico, he worked for the IRS until retirement. He has a deep love for his church and family. Up to his final days it was a ritual to stay in touch with his only remaining sister, reminiscing and keeping alive family memories, their love and respect for the faith of their mother. Ed loved music and gardening. He enjoyed listening to jazz and blues. His favorite instrument was the piano and in his earlier years he was a pianist for dance bands. He never forgot a family member's birthday. We will always remember picking up the phone and hearing him play Happy Birthday on the organ. Eddie will long be remembered for his love, his faith and respect for other as a husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend. He was a loving caretaker for Emily his wife. The way he lived his life was an inspiration to all who came to know him. The family would like to give a special thank you to Ed's caregiver Rose Chavez. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Amelia Garcia, Clorinda Lucero and Lydia Lopez; brothers, Leroy, Julio and Albert Lopez. Edward is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Emily Lopez; children, Theresa Graves and husband, Steve, Leonard Brooks, Laura Griego and Phillip and Vincent Lopez; grandchildren, Tricia Doxey and husband, Chris, Jessica Sanchez and husband, Steve, Andrea Dorman and husband, Will, Cassie Lopez and Clarence, Gabriel Griego, Vincent Lopez Jr., Lexi Griego, LeAnna Brooks and Sara Griego; and great-grandchildren, Timothy Sanchez, Robert Doxey, Matthew Doxey, Alyssa Garduno, Ethan Garduno, Orlando Sanchez, Cassidy Sanchez, Ava Dorman, Analeyah Pino and unborn, Clarence Pino Jr.; and sister, Rosie Lopez Ragni. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. All services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Peralta, on Wednesday, July 16th beginning with a Viewing at 9:30 a.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 10:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with Father Jose Hernandez presiding. Interment will follow at Valencia Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Timothy Sanchez, Gabriel Griego, Alan Griego, Steven Graves, Vincent Lopez Jr., and Dwayne Bercier. MOORE, MARILOUISE (BUNNY) November 2, 1930 - July 10, 2014 Marilouise, who was known to her family and friends as Bunny, was born at Fort Francis E. Warren in Cheyenne, Wyoming to parents Florence and Paul Evans. Bunny lived most of her life in Santa Fe and graduated from Loretto Academy in 1948. That same year she married J.M. (Mackie) Moore, former Santa Fe City Councilman, who preceded her in death in 1995. Bunny was a devoted wife and mother. She was a devout Catholic and belonged to the Saint Francis Cathedral Parish. She enjoyed all types of arts and craft work and was a member of the Santa Fe Embroiders' Guild for many years. Bunny moved to Albuquerque in 2012. Before long she connected with "friends her own age" and began enjoying stitching sessions with a new embroidery group. During her final days, Bunny completed her last needlework piece for a grandson, a colorful landscape based on a Grand Canyon photo that she had found in a magazine. Bunny took great joy in meeting and holding her two youngest great-grandchildren during the month before her passing. She is survived by her three children, Linda Moore and her daughter Memi; Bill and his wife Diana Moore and their children, Bryan, Stephanie, and Michael and their families; Karen and husband Barney Russell, and Karen's sons Clay and Carter Wallis; sister Elaine Gilmartin; brothers-in-law Dick and Jerry Moore and their wives Mary Sue and Marsha; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews scattered far and wide. A Rosary will be held on Friday, July 18, 2014 at 10 a.m. at St. Anne's Catholic Church followed by a Mass at 11 am.

PARRISH, ALEXIS "LEX" C. Age 87, and a resident of Albuquerque since 2005, Lex Parrish was born on March 20, 1927 and passed away on July 12, 2014. He is survived by his spouse, Carolyn "Pat" Parrish; his oldest son, Michael Parrish and wife, Jill from Manchester, NH; daughter, Darcy Parrish from Pensacola, FL; youngest son, Chris Parrish and wife, April from Albuquerque; sister, Louanne Stahl from Kansas City, MO; and two grandchildren, Brian and Daniel Parrish from Riverview, FL. Lex Parrish was preceded in death by his son, Scott Parrish. Lex Parrish led an interesting life: from child performer on Broadway through experiencing the final throes of WWII as a young Marine at Iwo Jima and Okinawa, to a long civilian career as an Aerospace Engineer with companies like General Electric and Martin Marietta (now Lockheed-Martin). He was also part of the crew on the first aircraft to fly over Hiroshima after detonation of the atom bomb. In addition, Mr. Parrish was a pilot, obtaining both private and commercial licenses while still a young man. In 1955, Lex left the Marine Corps and joined the Army Reserve-retiring as a Captain in 1967. Mr. Parrish contributed to the advancement of military airborne weaponry throughout his career in the military and private sector, which included the publication of several books of technical significance.
