ACREE, NANCY LOU On January 13, 2014, Nancy found peace in her battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Justine Cumerford, and sister Pat. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Ed; her step-children, Edward and Terri, and their spouses; grandchildren, Sara and Eddie; siblings, Dale and Cynthia; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was cremated and a celebration of her life will take place at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the NM Cancer Center. Her love and warmth will be missed by all who knew her.

BACA, ADELA Adela Baca, long time resident of Albuquerque, passed away on the evening of January 8th, 2014. She is survived by a daughter Lisa Marcell and son-in-law Sydney Jr.; two granddaughters Theresa Lynette and Sari; a grandson Syd III and Helen; and two great-grandsons Christopher Ryan and John Garrett, of Southern California. In addition, she leaves behind two sisters Mary Jane of Crystal River, Florida and Mela of Albuquerque; as well as nephew Leroy; and other numerous nephews and nieces, and extended family. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 18th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church, 1400 Arenal Road in Albuquerque. A burial is to follow at Sunset Memorial. Funeral arrangements are being handled by French Mortuary.

BEDNORZ, NELSON T. 8/7/1993 - 11/16/2013 Our cherished son Nelson was taken from our lives unexpectedly on November 16, 2013. He will join his older brother Garret where they will once again be together and rest in eternal peace. Nelson is survived by his parents, Rhonda Yellowhead Bednorz and Brian Bednorz; grandparents, Ollie and Milo Yellowhead and Joan and Gerald Bednorz; aunts and uncles, Glenna and Pete Losito, Greg Bednorz, Karen and Gary Bednorz, Janet and Charles Anderson, Liz and Gerald Bednorz; cousins, Kenna and Josh Sheak, Nick, Legus, Amy, Anne and Matthew. BOWERMAN, LOUIS, A. "LOU" LT. COL. USAF (RET'D) Age 89, a resident of Albuquerque, died at home with his family,Thursday, January 9, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Martha "Liz" Bowerman; his daughters, Caryl F. Bowerman Parks and husband Jeff of Albuquerque, Kathy L. Meimetis and husband Michael of Lake Elsinore, CA; and his grandchildren, Steffan, Tjaden, Micah, Josh, Lawrence and Alyssa, and his niece Lori Stampley. Lou was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond E. and Miriam Bowerman. He served our country as a fighter pilot in the United States Air Force and Air National Guard during WW II, Korea and Vietnam before retiring. He was a one of a kind pilot and instructor who "flew" by the seat of his pants. Lou's love for his family included his many dogs. FRALEY, BETTY RIDINGER Age 88, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 7, 2014. She was of Christian faith. She was the middle daughter of Frank and Hazel Ridinger, born September 26, 1925. Her family owned 3,000 acres of the White Sands in New Mexico. She was raised on the Caseldine ranch in La Luz Canyon, after her father contracted TB. Betty married Wilton E. Fraley, who preceded her in death in 1998. She is survived by her four children: Daniel F., George P., Dale E. and Elizabeth Joy; and four grandchildren. Betty resided in Rio Rancho for her last nine years, to be close to her son, Dale and wife, Christie. No services are planned for Mrs. Fraley, who has been cremated, as per her wishes. FUQUA, JACQUELINE ANNE RINI (Jacki/Mom) passed away January 12, 2014 in her home after a brave battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family. Jacki was born in Chicago, IL in l938. She attended college at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky. She moved to Albuquerque in l977 along with her two young sons, from Memphis, Tennessee. She filled the lives of everyone she knew with her enthusiasm, warm attentiveness, her glorious smile and love of life. A loyal and true friend to all she loved, Jacki spread her kindness and her delight throughout her family and her social world. A wonderful mother and a cherished sister, Jacki was also a gifted weaver, an avid photographer, and as she always said, "once a biker, always a biker." She rode her BMW all over the western United States and twice chaired the BMW rally in Sipapu, New Mexico. Jacki was the business manager and photography editor of New Mexico's Century magazine in the l980s. She worked for Lovelace Hospital, Hirst/Cordova Public Relations, and for Fishback Dance Studios. Earlier, she was a physician's assistant in a private practice in Memphis. Jacki traveled far and wide and as often as she could, including numerous trips to Oxford, Rome, Paris and Florence, and around the southwest. She brought joy and comfort to all those around her. She adored her family and they were her life. She was preceded in death by her husband Don Fuqua of Murray, Kentucky, her mother and father Marjorie and S. Jack Rini of Los Lunas, and her grandmother Helen Herman of Albuquerque. She is survived by two sons, Marshall Fuqua and wife Jeri of Iowa, Christopher Fuqua and wife Deanna Chavez; granddaughters Mercedes and Sophia; brother Jim Rini and wife Nancy Kendall; sister Rini Price and husband V.B. Price; step-nephews Jody Price and wife Amy, and Keir Price and his children Ryan and Talia. Jacki will always be missed, always treasured, always honored, and forever loved by all of us. KITSCH, JON Age 74, a resident of Algodones NM, born in Albuquerque's North Valley on March 26, 1939 to Bill and Margaret Kitsch, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2014. Jon was preceded in death by his parents and sister Mildred Marshall. Jon is survived by his wife of 46 years Elaine Kitsch; sons Thomas and wife Melanie Kitsch, Wilfred Kitsch; and daughter Christine Trnka and husband Craig. MAYO, RICHARD FENTON passed away Saturday, January 11, 2014, as a result of acute myeloid leukemia. Known to his friends as Dick, he was born in Bridgewater, Vermont, the eldest of three children born to Arthur and Elaine Mayo. Dick graduated from Clinton High School in Clinton, New Jersey, and after working on the family farm following high school, entered the Air Force in 1952. After receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1956, Dick attended the University of New Mexico, and received a Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering degree in 1960. After college, Dick worked as a design engineer for Gulton Industries. He was later employed by EG&G Inc., a national defense contractor, and eventually was responsible for managing the Albuquerque office. As a seasoned investor, in retirement, he enjoyed researching and managing financial concerns. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Virginia. Dick was devoted to his family, and had many friends. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Dick had an active and inquisitive mind, and regularly enjoyed playing bridge and dominos with his friends. He particularly enjoyed ballroom dance, and was a popular dance partner at many dances throughout Albuquerque. He is survived by children, son Richard Mayo, daughter Carol Mayo Cochran and her husband John; his beloved granddaughter, Rachel; his brother Guy Mayo; and his sister, Fern Mayo. At his request, Dick was cremated. Services will be held Tuesday, January 21, 2014, 11:00 a.m., at St. John's United Methodist Church, 2626 Arizona St. NE. O'NEAL, RUTH WADE passed away on January 15, 2014. She was born to George and Mabel Wade on November 25, 1919 and grew up on their farm in the Dexter-Hagerman area of Southern New Mexico. She married Burl O'Neal when he returned from WWII and they lived a happy life in Roswell until his death in 1960. Ruth had a daughter, Peggy O'Neal in 1949 and a son in 1956, Brian Frank O'Neal, who died at birth. Ruth was an elementary school teacher in Roswell for many years. She retired in her fifties and enjoyed the next forty years traveling, playing bridge and spending time with her family. She moved to Albuquerque when she was in her 70's to be near her daughter, Peggy, son-in-law, Bill and their daughters. She made many friends at Sombra Del Monte Christian Church and also had many bridge buddies. When Peggy and Bill moved to Los Lunas she lived with them in their home. Ruth made many new bridge friends and also delighted in her four great-grandchildren. They will have many happy memories of time spent with their Gigi. She was an active and healthy 94 year old until a week before her death. Ruth is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Bill Weaver of Los Lunas; granddaughter, Maggy Fitzgerald, her husband, Steve and their children, Jack and Emma of Belen, granddaughter, Holly Weaver and her children, Levi and Lily Chapin of Los Lunas and an extended family who loved her very much. Ruth was a gracious lady who left a wonderful legacy of loving kindness, strength and generosity to her family. PATTISON, THOMAS W. Thomas W. Pattison passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 in Mesa, AZ. Tom was born January 17, 1952 in Phoenix, AZ. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy, father William and sister Mary Ellen. Tom graduated from Manzano High School and worked in the aviation field for over thirty years. He worked at Cutter Aviation in New Mexico and eventually worked for Boeing Aircraft for over 25 years. Tom's true love was firearms and shooting. An avid sport shooter, Tom won countless awards and trophies for his shooting abilities. Tom is survived by his brothers Paul, John and David. Also, his amazing close friends, Bill and Nancy Long, and Richard and Mary Hardwick. So, Happy Birthday, Brother. You are loved and sorely missed. Godspeed and great shooting. Save some ammo for me. PRESTON, ALETA ANN (ANNIE) Mother, provider, Grandmother, faithful friend, and dearest person; Annie went to be with the Lord on January 8, 2014. Annie was born June 18, 1951 in Mechanicsburg, Ohio. She was the daughter of Robert E. Culp and Hazel W. Greene. Annie was a longtime resident of Albuquerque, Gallup and Las Vegas, New Mexico and San Antonio, Texas. She was a graduate of Gallup High School in Gallup New Mexico. She worked many years in the electronic industry in Albuquerque and San Antonio, Texas. Until 2011 she was employed as a Group Home caregiver. She was a gifted artist in paint, guitar, crafts and home decoration and was a naturalist. Annie was the personification of loving-kindness. She was quiet and forgiving, generous and gave all of herself. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her especially her grandsons. Annie we hope you're dancing! She is mourned by Wayne Salguero. SALAS, MICHAEL CHARLES Michael C. Salas, 51, born on May 3, 1962 in Gallup, NM and who died unexpectedly in the sanctuary of his home in Albuquerque, NM on January 13, 2014, surrounded by the loving faces of his family. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Annie A. Naranjo and paternal grandmother, Helen T. Cato. "Miguel Carlos", is survived by his devoted family, parents Larry and Mary Cato; sister Rae Ann Salas-Baker (Randy); sister Lisa Oakerson (Robb); brother Patrick Salas (Barbara); and his beloved nephew Sebastian Salas. Michael was a compassionate, hard-working, and constant aid to his family, especially his mother and sisters. "Mikey Leo" was a devoted son, brother, and friend as a Nursing Assistant, Pharmacy Tech, and most recently a Caregiver/Medication Technician for Home Care Assistance taking care of Alzheimers/ Dementia patients. Because of his willingness to render aid whenever he was called, God called him to heaven much too soon to increase his servant duties. SMITH, AMBER Amber Marie Smith was born July 15, 1981 and left this world on January 14, 2014. Amber was an incredible person who touched the lives of so many people with her love and generosity. She was one of the brightest lights the world has ever known and the mark she left on those she touched will never be forgotten. She helped so many young pregnant women bring their babies into this world and care for them. Her entire professional life was spent caring for mothers who were in poverty and frequently incarcerated, and guiding them in how to care for their children. She is survived by her mother, Joy Read and husband James Starzynski of Albuquerque and father, Ken Smith and wife Mary of Rio Rancho; grandparents, Betty Read, Stan and Estelle Read, Kenneth Smith Sr. and wife Bobbie; siblings, Justine Starzynski, Lucien Starzynski, Colbran Starzynski and wife Meghan Martinez, Melissa Hardin and husband Justin, Amanda Koschade and husband Richard, Alex Starzynski, Malia Smith, and Elijah Starzynski; and nieces and nephews, Tommy, Dante, Tegan, Cooper, Payton, Cora, and Lori. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Patsy Smith. Memorial Services will take place Monday, January 20, 2014, 1:30 p.m., at the Sandia Prep Auditorium, 532 Osuna Rd. STARSKY, EDWARD H. age 85, died peacefully in his home in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents Leah and Harry Starsky and his beloved wife Karen. He was originally from Rochester, NY. He is survived by his son, Scott Starsky (children Sarah and Jacob) of Boulder, CO and his daughter Pamela (Michael) Kogan (children Samantha, Hannah and Jackson) of Pacific Palisades, CA; brother Ron (Vicki) Starsky of Rochester, NY; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved cocker spaniels Rachel and Lacey. Special thanks for the love and kindness of his caregivers over the last two years; Antoinette, Chantau, Dana, Elenore, Lorraine and JD and to his guardian angels Irene, Mark and Melissa. A graveside service will be at Vista Verde Memorial Park, 4310 Sara Road, Rio Rancho on Saturday Jan. 18 at 11:00 am with a Celebration of Life occuring at the Westside UU Church, 1650 Abrazo Rd NE, Rio Rancho at 1:00 pm. It has been suggested that memorial contributions be made to the Westside UU church or the Jewish Community Center in Edward's name.

TERRELL, BRIAN K. Age 51. It saddens us to report that long time racer Brian Terrell passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 14, 2014. Brian is survived by his parents Jay P. and Marla J. Terrell; his brother David P. (Lesa) Terrell; and his two sisters Melanie J. Terrell-Allen and Josie L. (Dennis) Watters. Brian is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Brian raced at Albuquerque Dragway for many years. Brian was also the owner of TNT mufflers and exhaust, and a long time sponsor of the track. Brian was a beloved son, brother, nephew, uncle and friend. TOTI, CARL A. SR. (PAPA TOTI) Age 84, resident of Las Vegas, NV and longtime resident of New Mexico, died Saturday, January 11, 2014. He is survived by his wife, Priscilla Gallegos-Toti of Las Vegas, NV; children, Carl Toti, Jr. and wife Gloria of Lubbock, TX, Delilah Baum of Albuquerque and Valerie Rael-Bargas of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren, Jonathan Toti of Lubbock, TX, Nathan Toti of Lubbock TX, Michael Rael-Garcia of Las Vegas NV, Paige Bargas of Las Vegas, NV and great-grandchild, Camryn Rael-Garcia of Las Vegas, NV; sisters, Valerie Oszu of Vacaville, CA, Patricia Jolitz of Denver, CO and many nieces of nephews. Mr. Toti was preceded in death by his father, John Toti; mother, Soletta Jolitz; and sister, Marie Corich. Mr. Toti served in the U.S. Army from 1948 until 1952 and was stationed in Germany. In 1952 he moved to New Mexico and worked as state manager for Maloof Companies until opening Papa Toti's Restaurant in 1976. Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, 7:30 p.m., at FRENCH - Wyoming. Friends may visit beginning at 6:30 p.m. Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, January 22, 2014, 10:45 a.m., at Risen Savior Catholic Community, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE.
