WAGNER, MARILYN ELIZABETH Age 83, a resident of Albuquerque since 1981, died Friday, December 6, 2013. She is survived by spouse, Bill Wagner; children: Deborah, Bill, Cindy and Paul; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was the Assistant to the Director of Women's Studies at UNM from 1985-1995. "Lynne" was a wonderful mother, a supporter for the environment and for women's rights, and touched many lives with her generous and open heart. WRIGHT, FRANCES M. Age 90, a resident of Albuquerque since 1949, passed away Friday, December 20, 2013. She was born in Republic, MI on December 21, 1923. Frances loved children, sewing, crafts, reading, crocheting, taking pictures and the Balloon Fiesta. She enjoyed attending her children, grand and great grandchildren's activities and her house was open to all. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Wright; children, Donna, Danny; parents, Frank and Germaine Thomas. Frances is survived by her three children, Ty Juana Hise and husband, Neil of Placitas, NM, Robert Lee Wright of Long Beach, CA, Darrel Ray Wright and wife Olivia of Los Lunas, NM; seven grandchildren, Traci Vlk and family of Virginia Beach, VA, Julie Weiss-Oliver and family of Virginia Beach, VA, Jennifer Hise of Los Lunas, NM, Aneile Cummins and family of Los Lunas, NM, Desiree Cox and family of Los Lunas, NM, Dana Storms and family of Los Lunas, NM, Corey Wright and family of Placitas, NM; 18 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; sister, Dorothy Scott of Milwaukee, WI and brother Robert Thomas of Edgewood, NM. ZINK, LEE B. Lee passed away November 29, 2013 at his home in Carlsbad, NM after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease. Lee was born in Salem, Indiana and attended Indianan University (BS) and Oklahoma State University (Ph.D.). He served in the US Army and the Army Reserve, achieving the rank of Lt. Colonel. White completing his doctorate, he became the first director of the Technology Use Studies Center (TUSC) in Durant, Oklahoma. TUSC was one of several centers established by the U. S. Congress to transfer the technology being developed by NASA in the space program. In 1968, Lee began his long and well-loved tenure at the University of New Mexico serving as the director and principal research economist at the UNM Bureau of Business and Economic Research, the director of the UNM Institute of Applied Research Services, and the Associate Vice-president for Research and Business and Government Relations. One of the things he loved doing at UNM was teaching the introductory course in economics to more than 7000 students. Another of Lee's unusual accomplishments was becoming the first academic to serve as president of the Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce. He also served as the Chairman of the Governor's Council of Economic Advisors. Lee's favorite avocation was music, especially the pipe organ and singing in the church choir. Lee is survived by his wife, Patty; two sons: Kevin and wife, Lori, Barry and wife, Ashley; and three granddaughters. CARLSON, RICHARD REES, LCDR, U.S. NAVY (RET.) Age 90, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away Friday, December 20, 2013. Born July 23, 1923 in Cleveland, OH, he is survived by his wife, Mildred; daughter, Karen; son, Arne; step-daughter, Linda; and many extended family members. A WWII veteran and retired naval officer, he was an honorable man. All that knew him loved him and will miss him greatly. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at FRENCH - Wyoming followed by ennichement at Santa Fe National Cemetery. ELMER, M. ARLYN Age 78, a resident of Albuquerque since 1993, formerly of Elgin, Illinois, passed away on December 24, 2013. Survived by wife of 55 years Martha; children Theresa (Jeff) Ahle, Craig (Mary Pat) Elmer, Randal (Stephanie) Elmer and Candace (Nigel) Sargent. Grandchildren Kevin Ahle, Brooke Elmer, Cassidy Elmer and Andrew Sargent. One sister Shila (Dave) Froehlich. Arlyn was preceded in death by his parents Victor and Leila Elmer and grandson Ryan Ahle. He graduated with a Degree in Engineering at University of Wisconsin-Platteville. He retired after 35 years of employment as a Civil Engineer with Il Dept. of Transportation. He enjoyed biking, hiking, skiing, traveling and woodcarving at Los Volcanes Senior Center. There will be no services, per his request. Memorials may be sent to Alzheimer's Association. KING ARSENEAU, JODI December 29, 2013 , at the age of 75, Jodi King passed away with her family by her side. Born on July 17, 1938 in Lancing, Michigan, preceded in death by her mother, Lee McDowell. Survived by her children - Robert Arseneau, Amy Haas, Jill Carpenter of Albuquerque, NM and Dallas, TX; her grandchildren - Cole Arseneau, Erin Haas, Molly Arseneau, and Coen Carpenter. Jodi was a songwriter, a bowler, a cook, a grandmother, a Baha'i, a friend, a defender of the poor, a fighter of injustice. ORTIZ, DOLORES DUKE Dolores Duke Ortiz, aged 88 of Santa Fe, passed away at her home on Dec. 27, 2013. Dolores was the spouse of Ambassador Frank V. Ortiz of Santa Fe. Dolores was born on August 8, 1925 at Fort Riley, KS and the daughter of General James T. Duke and Guadalupe O'Neill Duke. She referred to her upbringing as that of an "Army brat" with her father being posted in Europe after World War II where she lived and studied in France and Germany. Dolores married Frank V. Ortiz on May 2, 1953 at the Post Chapel, Fort Myer, VA and celebrated 52 years of marriage before his passing in 2005. As the wife of a career diplomat they were posted in Ethiopia, Mexico, Washington D.C., Peru, Uruguay, Barbados, Guatemala, Panama and Argentina before finally returning to Santa Fe in 1990. She was a faithful member of the congregation of the Cathedral Basilica of St Francis of Assisi of Santa Fe, New Mexico and was active in many organizations in Santa Fe including the National Dance Institute (NDI), Friends of the Palace of the Governors amongst others. Dolores is survived by her brother Leonard Duke and his wife Rosetta of Louisville, Kentucky; and her four children, Tina of Santa Fe, NM; Frank, Jr. and his spouse Susan and their children Corinna and Andrew of Potomac, MD; Stephen and his spouse Mary and their children Victoria Marie and Alexander of Taos, NM and James and his spouse Nicola and their children Cassian and Lucas of Tampa, FL. Dolores will lie for viewing at the Berardinelli Funeral Home, 1399 Luisa Street, Santa Fe from 1 - 3 pm on Tuesday, December 31st and a Mass celebrating Dolores' life will be performed at the Cathedral Basilica of St Francis of Assisi on Thursday, January 2nd at 10 am. Dolores will be laid to rest with her husband Frank at the Rosario Cemetery in Santa Fe on Friday, January 3rd at 10 am.
