ANGEL, RAYMUNDO "RAY" JR. Wisdom is not a product of schooling but of the lifelong attempt to acquire it. When I think of that it is how I will remember, Raymundo "Ray" Angel, 94, of Las Vegas, NM who died on Saturday, November 30, 2013. He is survived by Joanne E. Angel; daughter, Naina and Dairus Panthaki; grandchildren, and great-granddaughter Layla Marie Panthaki. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy McElroy Angel (2011), son Robert Angel (2008), and parents Reymundo and Lina C de Baca-Angel. Ray was a lifelong resident who felt he was blessed with good friends who kept him active and helped out tirelessly. He is best remembered as the AST for the National Guard, and a Pearl Harbor survivor. Many of his troopers remained a constant source of friendship and care throughout his life. In addition to his troopers, he loved the attention and friendship of Barbara Venturi, Rosina Romero, and Katherine "Kat Kugler. He was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Church, B. P. O. Elks Lodge 408, the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, and VFW Post #1547. A rosary will be recited Thursday evening, December 5, at 7:00 p.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church. Prior to the rosary on December 5, friends will gather from 4:30 to 6:30 for a potluck at the Elks Lodge on Collins Drive. Please contact Barbara Venturi and 1-505-429-1035. BROWER, ELIZABETH ANNE Elizabeth Anne "Lizzy" Brower age 8, of Lafayette, died on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at Exempla Good Samaritan Hospital in Lafayette. She was born July 2, 2005 to William Paul Brower and Annyce Marie O'Day Brower in Louisville, CO. A Celebration of Elizabeth's Life will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, 900 W. Midway Blvd, Broomfield. A reception will follow the services at the church. Elizabeth was a 3rd grade student at Eisenhower Elementary in Boulder. She loved swimming for the Seals and playing soccer with Double Trebol. She loved the challenges of learning and enjoyed elementary school. She also loved the outdoors: hiking and fishing in Rocky Mountain National Park. CAMPBELL, NORMAN Age 96, passed away in his home on Thursday, November 28, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Florence; son, Norman; daughter, Christine (Joe) Erwin; his sister, Margaret MacNab; daughter-in-law, Elaine Campbell; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. CHASE, ROBERT (BOB) following a long illness, breathed his last gentle breath on November 6, 2013 at age 55. Robert was born in Albuquerque and spent his latest years in San Francisco and Santa Fe. He was preceded to the spirit realm by his parents, Joseph and Barbara, and his brother John. Robert is survived by nine siblings: Patrick and Mimi of Santa Fe, Michael and Tom of Utah, Cathy and Marion of California, Martha of Maryland, AJ (Allen), of Albuquerque, Judy of Washington, and by his many nieces and nephews. Robert was kind, creative and intelligent, a reader and great conversationalist. He enjoyed his library work and adding his rich deep voice to singing groups and ACLOA musicals. He brought the most exceptional dishes to pot lucks, was a polished and gallant dance partner, and had a strong hug that let you know you were treasured. A memorial service and pot luck reception will be held from 1:00 to 5:00 pm on Saturday, December 7, at the Santa Fe Elks Club, 1615 Old Pecos Trail. Warm celebration of the wonderful friends who enriched Robert's life. Thanks also to the staff at Santa Fe C.A.R.E. Center, St. Vincent's PCU and Casa Real for their care and kindness.

EDWARDS, VIRGINIA ANN I met the love of my life on February 17, 1951 at the party of a friends. We were married on December 4, 1954. GLEASON, WILLIAM "BILL" HENRY William "Bill" Henry Gleason, devoted husband, loving father and loyal friend, entered eternal peace on December 2, 2013. Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Jean Gleason. He is survived by his wife of nearly three years, Georgia Vredenburgh-Gleason; son, William Lawrence Gleason and his wife, Melanie, of Aurora, CO; grandchildren, William Brendan Gleason and Jamie Nicole Gleason and three great-grandchildren; son, Michael Leslie Gleason, of Denver, CO; and daughter, Linda Jean Fresques and her husband, Frederick, of Las Cruces, NM; and their sons, Lee Devon and Taylor Austin. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Gleason and sister, Margaret Harrison of Albuquerque. Sister, Frances Stevens and brother, John preceded him in death. Bill was born on August 19, 1928 to William Henry Gleason, Sr. and Leila Belle Hanners in Waldo, New Mexico. He grew up in Albuquerque. He worked for Santa Fe Railroad and joined the Marines, serving in Pearl Harbor shortly after WWII ended. He returned to serve at Terminal Island, San Diego when a mutual friend arranged a blind date for Barbara and Bill. After three months they wed on March 19, 1947 and shared 62 years of glorious marriage. The couple moved to Bill's hometown of Albuquerque in 1949. Bill worked for the Department of Defense at Manzano base for many years and then worked for the Federal Aviation Administration until his retirement. Bill was blessed to meet Georgia Vredenburgh and they were married on Feb. 14, 2011. They shared great happiness and companionship. Bill was a devout Christian and an active Mason until recent years. He was a 33rd Degree Mason, served as Master of Temple Lodge No. 6 and was also a member of Scottish Rite. Services will be held Friday, December 6, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at FRENCH Wyoming. GOMEZ, EDWINA Age 89, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2013 of natural causes. Edwina is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Martinez and husband Lorenzo; grandchildren Eddie Valdez, Lawrence Martinez, David Martinez, Juanita Valdez, and Gabriel Trujillo; 16 great-grandchildren; & 12 great-great-grandchildren. Edwina is also survived by her very close niece Josie Zamora. She was preceded in death by her parents Dometilio and Josephina Apodaca, her siblings, Emma Perea, Rosita Griego, Faustina Griego, Maria Chavez, Telefor Apodaca, Ramon Apodaca, and Joe Apodaca, daughters Mary Valdez, and Belinda Gomez, grandchildren Jerry Valdez and Dorieanne Valdez. Edwina loved to be outside tending her flowers and garden. She also enjoyed tending to the various pets she kept at her home. She will be missed by her family and friends but her spirit will live on forever. Family would like to thank Ambercare and the staff at St. Theresa Healthcare and Rehab Center for the love and care they gave Edwina. GONZALES, MARGARET Margaret Gonzales was received into the loving arms of our Lord surrounded by her devoted family, following a brave battle with lung cancer. Margaret was born in Warrington, England. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elsie and Frank Pratt; brother, Alan Pratt; brother-in-law, Joe, and son-in-law, Jerry "J.P.". She is survived by her husband, Ramon; daughters, Sandra (Jim), and Tina; grandchildren, James (Jamie), Rachel (Scott), Heather, and Stephanie. HERRERA, MARC I. Marc I. Herrera, age 66 years old, unexpectedly passed away at his home on November 20, 2013. He was born in Manzano, New Mexico, he was a UNM graduate and retired from Social Security Administration. He is survived by eight sisters, Eloisa Luna, Delfina Dominguez, Esther Saavedra, Anna Jensen, Peggy Ortiz, Lupe Montoya, Gabie Vega, Sally Carrillo, and one brother, Abe Herrera. Preceded in death by his parents, Zenon and Mercedes Herrera, brothers, Sam Herrera, Gavino Herrera, Juan Herrera, Delfin Herrera and Ray Herrera. He enjoyed shopping, cooking with friends and family, and he was always helping people. Memorial services, Rosary and Mass at 9:30 AM at Queen Of Heaven Church, 5311 Phoenix NE. JOHNSON, MARY E. (BETTY) Age 78, passed away peacefully in her home in Albuquerque on November 30, 2013. She is survived by husband, Orville; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Laura and their son Bradley; son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Michelle and their daughters, Esther and Marie; a daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Jeffery Idol; and her youngest daughter, Lisa and husband William Crawford. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers, Leroy and Michael and by her oldest, beloved son Christian who joined his maker in 2004. Betty was born in Baltimore, MD on June 23, 1935 to her parents Leroy and Mary Calligan and was graduated from Catholic High School where she developed an interest and talent in art, especially oil painting. She maintained this interest and activity for the remainder of her life with an addition of a side interest in clay sculpturing. Following her graduation, she was employed by American Airlines, where she took an interest in flying with her first flight lesson in a J-3 Piper Cub in 1956. It was through this interest that she met her husband-to-be Orville whom she married on March 17, 1958. They started their family in rapid succession and when they moved to New Mexico in 1968, they arrived with five children ages 9, 8, 7, 5, and 3. With a large family consuming her time as a mother and provider, she always found a way to welcome all the friends of her children and her house became a haven for kids attracted to her outgoing personality and joyful outlook on life. Her husbands' work took them to Santa Fe for about 15 years where the same family activities developed along with her pursuit of the arts and especially sculpturing available there. Betty and Orville returned to Albuquerque after his retirement to be near all their children who all live there. Following a bout with pneumonia in 2004, she contacted a pulmonary disease which limited her social and artistic activities which she loved so dearly. LEAL, JOSEFITA MARIA Josefita (Fita) Leal, age 93, was called to be with our Lord on December 2, 2013. She was born in Corrales, NM on October 30th, 1920 and was a great-granddaughter of Francisco Gutierrez and Encarnacion Lucero and the daughter of Arsenio Armijo and Esther Gutierrez. A resident of Algodones, NM for over 50 years, she was a member of the Corrales Historical Society and attended Our Lady of Sorrows Church for many decades. In her later years, Fita spent her time enjoying knitting, crocheting, and was a very accomplished artist. She was surrounded by her family when she completed her journey to be with our Lord. Fita was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She will be missed by everyone whose life's she touched and we will always keep her close in our hearts and minds. She is survived by her daughter Vera and Frank Campos (Santa Fe); son Andrew and Andrea Leal (Albuquerque); grandchildren Leona Gonzales Romero (Algodones), Christine Baca (Ft. Josefita was preceded in death by her husband Valentin Leal in 2006, son Valentino Leal in 1991, daughter Dianne Leal in 2013; and her great-grandson Leo A. Gonzales in May of 2011. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service and reception will be held this Friday with Mass at 10:00 a.m. at the Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Bernalillo, NM. Burial will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m.

LUJAN, FRANK E. JR. Passed from this life peacefully on November 11, 2013 in a Fort Worth, TX hospital. He was extremely bright and a talented mechanic. He had a passion for Stock Car racing. He also had many other talents and interests, but the loves of his life were his children Robert and Roberta and grandchildren, Sativa, Trinity, Analicia, and Arabelle. In recent years he was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Decatur, TX. He made many good friends there. He was preceded in death by his mother Della Lujan. He is survived by father Frank Lujan Sr; brothers Toby and Michael; sisters Jennifer and Penny, of Albuquerque, NM; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. LYNN, TERRY October 27, 1954-December 2, 2013 Terry Lynn, age 59, formerly of Los Lunas, NM, currently a resident of Wickliffe, KY, passed away peacefully with his wife & children at his side on Monday, December 2, 2013. Terry was born to Nellie Jean Stewart and George William "Bill" Lynn on October 27, 1954 in Ballard County. Terry recently worked for Rollings Farms LP in Barlow, KY as a truck driver. He worked in NM as a truck driver for 28 years before returning to KY to care for his mother. Terry enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, camping and hunting. Terry loved his dogs, Buttercup, Brendi, Porcha and Bubbles. Terry is survived by his wife of 24 years, Toni Romero-Lynn of Wickliffe, KY; son Terry D. MONTOYA, ABELINO J. SR. Abelino Jose Montoya Sr., age 92, passed away Saturday, November 30, 2013. Our beloved patriarch is now reunited with our mother, Lucille, in heaven. Abelino was born July 27, 1921 in Canon del Carro Village, Mora County, NM to the proud parents of Manuelita de Atocha and Jose Vidal Montoya. Abelino was the twelfth born of fifteen children, including two half-brothers. Abelino married Lucille Salazar July 29, 1938 and she passed away July 11, 1968. In 1969 Abelino married his second wife, Julianita Martinez. In 1934, Abelino's family was faced with much hardship. His father, their only provider, passed away and Abelino and his brothers were unable to pursue their education as they had to work to provide for their mother and family. They provided for their mother for fifteen years until she passed away in 1949. At a very early age Abelino worked various jobs. He told his children stories of selling ice from a little red wagon, selling wood from the back of a truck, driving a taxi cab for Rimbert's Taxi Co., and working as a bartender in Las Vegas, NM. A decorated World War II Veteran, Abelino was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, American Area Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, and European African Ribbon. Abelino was proud of his service to our country with our U.S. Navy as a Fireman First Class. He was able to serve our country from May 23, 1944 through his honorable discharge on December 12, 1945. He enjoyed talking about his travels and the people he met during that time. In 1945 he began work with the New Mexico State Highway Department as a heavy equipment transporter and carrier. In 1973, twenty-eight years later, he retired from the State Government, as a Highway Safety Supervisor. After 39 years of continuous employment, retirement brought Abelino leisure time to travel, fish and partake in other outdoor activities. Most importantly, he could sit back, enjoy, and watch his family grow. He moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1988. The last five months of Abelino's life were medically challenging. After 40 years of retirement, Abelino is now in God's hands. He acknowledged on many occasions, his greatest accomplishment in life were his children and their accomplishments. As a devoted, giving and loving father, Abelino kept a promise he made to Lucille before she passed away: He would keep the young children together which was was accomplished with determination, guidance, and love. Abelino was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucille E. Salazar Montoya; children, Dulia Louisa, Michael Matthew; sisters, Regina, Juanita, Eloisa, Alicia, Adelmira, Laura; brothers, Eloy I, Eloy II, Tomas, Teodocio, Alfredo, Vidal, Juan, Placido; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; son-in-law, Fred Montoya. MONTOYA, ARSENIO Arsenio, age 79, went to be with our Lord on Friday, November 29, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Encarnacion and Mary Montoya; brother, Luciano Montoya; son, Fernando Montoya; and daughter, Lisa Montoya. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lupe Montoya; children: Mary (Don) Hartberger, Joe (Tina) Montoya, John Montoya, Patrick (Rebecca) Montoya, and David (Uyen) Montoya; brother, Fermin (Michelle) Montoya; sisters: Anita Montoya, Marcella Montoya, Malena (Bill) Giffon, Margret Montoya, and Louisa Montoya; and 15 grandchildren. MONTOYA, DAVID G. David, age 92, went to be with our Lord on Friday, November 29, 2013. David was born on September 8, 1921. He was preceded in death by his spouse of 58 years, Mary Anne Montoya; grandson, Michael David Montoya; and his granddaughter, Denise Garcia. David is survived by son, Mike (Kathy) Montoya; his daughters: DeeDee (Ross) Garcia and Jeannette Luna; five sisters; four brothers; his seven grandchildren: Derrik, Danielle, Melissa, Miranda, Jeremiah, Chris, and Kym; and nine great-grandchildren: Michael Joseph, Isaiah, Anthony, Xavior, Scarlett, Grey, Noah, Branden, and Ryan. David served in the U.S. Army as a Technician Fourth Grade Sergeant and is retired from the US Postal Service. He was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and the DAV. David was an avid reader and loved to read the Albuquerque Journal. He loved giving tips and advice to others. He was known for his famous green Ford LTD. David will be greatly missed by his family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 9:00 a.m., followed by Interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. David's pallbearers will be Mike Montoya, Derrik Luna, Isaiah Montoya, Richard Luna, Ross Garcia, and Chris Garcia. David's honorary pallbearer will be Jeremiah Montoya. MULLIN, MARK Age 67, a resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, November 29, 2013. He is survived by his wife, Shirley L. ORTEGA, ART Arturo Guillermo Ortega, Jr. passed away November 28, 2013 in Albuquerque. He was born on May 29, 1946 in Washington, D.C. He graduated from St. Pius X High School in 1964 and attended Regis College in Denver and the University of Albuquerque. While at the University of Albuquerque, Art found his calling as a broadcaster. He started his career at KDEF in Albuquerque, and had a very successful run that took him to radio stations in Denver, Boston, Columbus, and San Diego. He returned to Albuquerque in 1985 and retired from broadcasting in 2011. Art was known for his engaging personality, quick wit, ready smile, and ever-active sense of humor. He volunteered on many boards and committees throughout his career and exemplified excellent problem-solving skills coupled with creativity and imagination to benefit the community. His late parents were Arturo G. Ortega and Eloisa Maes Ortega. He is survived by his wife, Lynda; son, David; grandson, Dominic; stepson, Eric Martinez; stepdaughter, Kristine Martinez; siblings, Dr. Ricardo Ortega, M.D., Cristina Ortega Morris (Robert), Carlos Ortega (Dolores), Daniel Ortega, Roberto Ortega (Loretta), and Armando Ortega (Yolanda). Art is also survived by his former wife, Margaret Ortega, plus many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins, colleagues, and friends. He enjoyed the music of a spectrum of artists, but was especially fond of the Beatles, who burst onto the world stage when he was a teenager. Indeed, Art had a chronic case of Beatlemania that was practically contagious. He loved to attend and photograph David's and Dominic's soccer games and was a devoted fan of the Boston Celtics. The reservoir of steady love, encouragement, and support that Art left for his grandson, Dominic will help him immensely in his ongoing recovery from childhood leukemia. Pallbearers are Joe Melloy, Chuck Reynolds, Art Verardo, Joe McGuire, Richard Royman, and Paul Barabe. Honorary pallbearers are Malcolm Shannon, Frank Cody, David Battat, Ernesto Perez, Carla Barela, Judy Higgins Reynolds, and Dewey Weber. In lieu of flowers, donations in Art's memory may be made to the Heart Hospital of New Mexico Foundation or to the National Hispanic Cultural Center Foundation. The Rosary will be recited Friday, December 6, 2013, 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Fatima, 4020 Lomas NE, Albuquerque. WILLIAMS, RAYMOND ANDREW "RAY" Age 51, born and raised in New Mexico and a current resident of Phoenix, passed peacefully on Tuesday, November 12, 2013. He is survived by his sons, Mathew Williams and Joshua "WIll" Williams, both of Albuquerque; brother, Humbert Williams; sisters, Flora Latham and Aimee Williams; nieces, Saki Chavez and Akari Latham. Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his son, Jon Andrew Williams and his parents, Raymond and Geraldine Williams. Ray served in and retired from the US Air Force. He worked as a Field Service Engineer at Applied Materials. A service will be held on Friday, December 7, 2013, 10:00 am, at FRENCH - University. WOOD, H. FRANCIS COMMANDER, USN (RET.) "Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer." Romans 12:12 Frank Wood went to his eternal home on November 28, 2013 at the age of 75. He was born March 12, 1938 in Bonne Terre, MO to Gladys Ann (McCauley) Wood and Herbert Vincent Wood. Frank is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carol; his son, Michael and wife Kimba; his daughter, Sarah and Jim and grandson, Bryce Barrett. He is also survived by six brothers and four sisters: Herbert Wood, veteran US Army; Fr. Robert Wood CM; Leroy Wood, veteran US Marines; Donald Wood, veteran US Air Force; Joe Wood, veteran US Navy; John Wood; Mary Ann Redmond; Ruth Wood; Barbara Sanders; and Dorothy Gleich. Frank was an air recon pilot in the U.S. Navy for 21 years and served during the Vietnam War. After retiring from the navy he worked for New Haven Home, Visa, CA, Diversified Sciences Corporation and Lockheed Martin. Frank attended the Naval Post-Graduate School in Monterey and National University. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic War Veterans. He was active in the ACTS Retreat Ministry. Rosary and viewing will be held Thursday, December 5, 2013, 7:00 p.m., at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 12500 Carmel Blvd. NE. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Friday, December 6, 2013, 10:00 a.m., also at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Interment will take place at a later date in Butte, Montana.
