FRY, WILLIAM FRANKLIN Age 97, died on October 27, 2013. He was born September 20, 1916, to Roy Fry and Irma Carson Fry in Kline, Colorado. He spent much of his happy childhood in Farmington and Aztec, New Mexico. In 1941 he was drafted and served in World War II in the Pacific and European theaters. After the war, he lived in Albuquerque and attended the University of New Mexico on the GI Bill. He was a civil engineer with the federal government for his entire career, where troubleshooting became his specialty. Bill was a charter member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, then a member of Cross of Hope Church, and, at the time of his death, he was an active member of New Covenant Church. He was committed to charitable work and volunteered for many activities throughout his life. He was a volunteer for ARTA (Appropriate Rural Technology Association), which helped the Tarahumara Indians in Mexico to develop more efficient agricultural methods. He volunteered with Presbyterian Hospital hospice and was active in many church-related ministries. Gardening was Bill's passion, and his gardens were totally organic long before most people knew what organic gardening was. He was a member of the New Mexico Organic Growers' Association and helped the organization draft and promote the first New Mexico statute governing organic agricultural commodities. Bill had two happy marriages: first to Mary Eleanor McKenzie Fry for 42 years (until her death in 1989), and then to Beverly Fry for 22 years. He is survived by his wife Beverly; daughter Kathryn Fry and her husband Colonel Robert Bower, daughter Cynthia Fry and her husband Daymon Ely; grandsons James MacPherson and Asher Ely; granddaughter Rachel Ely; sister Muriel Lisignoli; and many nieces and nephews. Bill was a joyful, curious, and generous man, and he will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 5301 Ponderosa NE, Albuquerque, on November 16, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the charity of your choice.

GUTIERREZ, SHIRLEY Shirley Gutierrez, 50, went home to be with our Lord on October 26, 2013. She was preceded in death by her father, Stanley Mora. She is survived by her mother, Rosita Mora; sons Frankie Gutierrez and wife Jessica, Bobby Gutierrez and Jesse Campos; siblings Eva Ortiz, Jeanette Owens, Stanley Campos, Adam Campos, Sally Baca and husband Michael, Solomon Mora and wife Kathy, and Margaret Mora; as well as several grandchildren. Shirley loved her school, Share & Care, art and cooking. She will be greatly missed and always loved. A Funeral Mass will be held at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery Chapel on Friday, November 1, 2013 at 11:00 AM, followed by a burial service at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith Blvd. NE, Albuquerque 87102. Pallbearers are Frankie Gutierrez, Bobby Gutierrez, Jesse Campos, Adam Campos, Isaiah Gutierrez and Antonio Campos. Honorary Bearers are Solomon Mora, Stanley Campos and Kenneth Zamora. JANTZ, HARLAND of Edgewood, NM. Born July 2, 1928 near Fort Cobb, OK, passed away October 24, 2013, Albuquerque, NM. He was raised on a farm with three brothers and one sister. His oldest brother Leon resides in Enid, OK and younger brother Willfred resides in Madison, TN. Brother Emmett and sister, Wildean have already passed away. Harland is survived by his three children, Kathy (Jantz) Olson of LaVerne, CA, Gary of Edgewood, NM, and Michael of Castle Rock, CO. His step-daughter Terri Issack resides in Mangum, OK. He has seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was a 1947 graduate of Alden Oklahoma High School. Harland will be laid to rest with his wife, Glenna Rae, at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Duncan, OK. Graveside service set for 11:00 am, Saturday, November 2, 2013. KOLB, ALBERT CROWELL Al was born 11-7-1920 in Madera, CA and left this world for his next adventure on 10-23-2013. His family moved to Monterey, CA when he was just an infant, where they had a chicken farm on "Kolb Avenue". After working his way through high school and college he received Bachelors and Masters Degrees at UC Davis and a Masters in Education at ASU. He served in the Pacific in the Fourth NCB Battalion on the USS Highlands during WWII and retired from the Navy Reserves as a Lt. Commander. During the 1950's he managed 100 men and 10,000 acres of farm land for Heidrick Brothers Farms of Woodland, CA. In the 1960's he started a new career as a teacher at Carmel Middle School and served 2 years on the CA State Commission on Teacher Preparation and Licensing in Sacramento. In 1973-74 he was honored to be included in a "teacher exchange program" and taught school in Ararat, Victoria, Australia. Over many summers he and his step-sons and their friends built a mountain cabin above Durango CO - without benefit of electricity or running water. His passion was knitting and he knitted well over 2,000 garments that were donated to ARCA group homes, homeless shelters and the "preemie" ward of UNMH. He donated just under 30 gallons of blood not including that during WWII. He was a member of the Masons and a past member of the Sierra Vista Civitan Club. A memorial service will be held in Durango, CO at a later date. He is survived by his wife Gloria; sons Steve (Rilla) of Jacksonville FL, Chuck (Kim) of Woodland, CA and Ken (Jean) of CA; step-children Twila Donaldson of Albuquerque, Terry Vaughan and Tim Vaughan of Durango, CO; and ten grandchildren. He was a big man with a big heart, so in lieu of flowers the family requests that you do something nice for someone else.

LANCASTER, BOB ALLEN Age 60, passed away Monday, October 21, 2013. He was born in Eufaula, OK on August 15, 1953, to William and Dollye Lancaster. Bob enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Diana Lancaster; children Dave Lancaster and wife Heather, Matt Lancaster, Brandy Seidel and husband Mitchell; grandchildren Chaunze, Daimon, Kian and Landen; three brothers, four sisters and many extended family and friends. ORTEGA, JUNE MARGARITE Age 66, a resident of Los Lunas, died Tuesday, October 29, 2013 in the presence of her family. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Lawrence Ortega of Los Lunas, NM, son, Eric Ortega, daughter, Sheila (Aaron) Rivera, son, Michael (Renee) Ortega, parents John and Alice Romero; four grandchildren Michael Jr., Nathaniel, Felix and Elisa; sister Mari Lee; brothers, Daniel and John. June was preceded in death by her sister Lisa. Anyone and everyone who met June fell in love with her - she became a friend to all. She retired after 37 years of service with the Army Corp of Engineers. Rosary will be recited Friday, November 1, 2013, 7:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. PASKIND, MILDRED LYNN beloved mother, grandmother, wife, sister and friend passed away at Presbyterian Hospital on October 25th, 2013. Born on September 22, 1939 to Josie and Walter Chesser, Lynn grew up on a ranch near Roswell. She graduated from Roswell High school. She attended UNM where she met Martin Paskind whom she married in 1959. She earned a Bachelors degree in Psychology and a Masters degree with Honors in Public Administration at UNM. Lynn started working at UNM Mental Health Center in 1970 in various capacities: The Albuquerque Rape Crisis Center, Drug Treatment Program and Center on Alcoholism Substance Abuse and Addictions. Her final position was as Senior Program Director, General Administration and Special Projects. Lynn was an expert craftswoman: she could knit, do upholstery, needlepoint, and embroidery. She was an excellent cook, party giver and gardener; she belonged to several writing groups. Lynn loved music, theater, travel and animals. She was family-oriented, caring deeply for her husband, daughters and grandchildren. She will be sorely missed by friends and family. Lynn is predeceased by her husband, Martin; and her sisters, Betty Matthews and Barbara Ortega. She is survived by her daughters ,Rebecca Paskind (Bret Halford) and Leah Roff (Kent Roff); her grandchildren, Grace and David Roff; her sister, Nancy Goodart (Phil Goodart) and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Animal Humane Society, Sussman-Miller Educational Assistance Fund at Albuquerque Community Foundation, NM Public Broadcasting Service or the charity of your choice in her name. MILLER, JANE S. Age 88, born in Hillsboro, raised in Hot Springs and a resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, October 26, 2013. She is survived by her sons, Thomas L. Miller and wife Pamela J. Engel of Albuquerque, James D. Miller and wife Anna of Los Lunas; grandchildren, Garrett and wife Ellen, Josh and wife Laurie, Jenise and husband Brian, Randy, Trinity; 11 great grandchildren and many other family and friends. SCHLESIER, CLAIRE age 85, of Corrales, New Mexico, died on October 26, 2013 surrounded by her family. She was born on May 9, 1928 in Duesseldorf, Germany. Her parents were Christine Groesgen and Wilhelm Meuter. She had one brother, Karl Andreas, whom she always remembered lovingly. Claire attended a business school where she learned English, shorthand, and other skills. After the war, in June of 1945, British officials asked her to work at the Headquarters of the British Army of the Rhine, in Duesseldorf. She worked for the British Army until 1951. Thereafter she worked in various administrative positions until her immigration to the U.S. in 1962. Claire met her husband, Karl Heinz Schlesier, in 1948. He was a Dispatch Clerk in the REO (Regional Economic Office) of the British Army in Duesseldorf. In the same office he first set eyes on Claire. They were married on July 24, 1958. In 1962, with their first daughter, Sibylle, the couple immigrated to Wichita, Kansas, where Karl joined the faculty of the Anthropology Department at Wichita State University. In 1963 the couple's second daughter, Sedna, was born. Claire enjoyed all the things that mean family and home. She was a true German-American; she passed the German language and culture on to her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, her daughters, her grandchildren, Dorian and Ariane, and her former son-in-law Gerhard. A funeral mass for family will be celebrated October 31st at 10:00 a.m. at San Ysidro Catholic Church. Internment will follow at San Ysidro Cemetery, Corrales, New Mexico. Thank you to all of you, near and far, who have shown such heartfelt support over the last days. A special thank you to the "old" friends in Germany: Horst and Ingrid Ellermeier, Wolfgang and Gerdi Schumann, Frank and Renate Micha, and Ferdi and Margret Bleines. SUTTON, CLARETTA L. Claretta L. Sutton left her earthly home on Thursday, October 24, 2013 to rejoin her beloved husband, Col. (Ret.) James L. Sutton, who passed, July 15, 2012. Claretta was born on April 26, 1928, in Ft. Stockton, TX to parents, William Raymond McKay and Ermine E. (Peck) Hourigan. She was the granddaughter of West Texas pioneers. Claretta met James Sutton in El Paso, TX in 1945 and they married August 4, 1946. The marriage of a lifetime followed for 65 years and 11 months. Life was always an adventure, as they were a proud military family, never one without the other, unless Jim was in a war zone. Claretta was a working military wife while Jim attended the University of Texas in Austin, TX. She volunteered at many of the bases and cities where they were stationed. She was a true military wife and mother. When their sons, Michael and Rory were born the family was complete. They were a family for a lifetime, enjoying every new adventure with their sons. Claretta is survived by her beloved sons, Michael Sutton of Albuquerque and Rory (Sara) of Houston, TX; grandson, Jeramiah Sutton of Houston, TX; brother-in-law, Jesse (Marjean) Sutton of Omaha, NE; sister-in-law, Lydia Sutton of Carlisle, PA; sister and brothers, Anne Pilgrim of Abilene, TX, Tom McKay (Lety), Steve Hourigan (Jackie) of El Paso, TX, Vernon McKay (Josie) of Las Vegas, NV and Tim (Donna) Hourigan, Las Cruces, NM and numerous nieces and nephews. VALENCIA, ANNA age 59, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, born July 26, 1954, passed away on October 28, 2013. Anna is survived by her sisters, Gloria Lovato and Rosie Gutierrez; nephews, John Torres and Lawrence Lovato; nieces, Rubi Lovato, Valery Lovato and Mary Lovato; godsons, Antonio Maestas and Diego Lopez; goddaughters, Priscilla Torres and Valery Lovato; and many "primos" who loved her dearly. Anna was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Valencia; brother, James Valencia and sister, Beatrice. "Auntie Anna", as so many people knew her was a proud graduate of Albuquerque High School, Class of 1973. Although, she never had any children of her own, she played a big part in raising generations of children, all of whom loved her like a mother. She loved to live life to its fullest, whether it was attending an oldies concert with her sisters or attending family functions, if there was a good time to be had, you would definitely find Auntie Anna there. Anna loved her culture, traditions, and her faith, not to mention she was one of the best cooks in the family. Visitation will be Friday, November 1, 2013 in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Edwin Catholic Church, 2105 Barcelona Rd SW, Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
