MARIANETTI, DOROTHY ELIZABETH "Deedee", 99, passed away peacefully at her home, two months shy of her 100th birthday, surrounded by her family on October 18, 2013. Dorothy was born in Denver. CO to Italian immigrants, Antoinette and Luis Cito, and moved to Albuquerque in 1939 after marrying her husband, Oliver Bruno Marianetti. A longtime resident of Albuquerque's Country Club neighborhood and parishioner at Immaculate Conception Church, Dorothy worked for years in her husband's bars and restaurant, for the Albuquerque Journal, ACF industries and as a secretary at Alameda Elementary School. Dorothy's date of birth has always been a bit of a good-natured family joke, as she kept changing the year; however we "think" she was born on December 17, 1913. The last of her siblings, she spent her childhood in the Italian section of north Denver, with a large and loving family. Later in life, Dorothy became an avid traveler both in the United States and as far away as China, and cherished her numerous trips to Italy. She touched many lives during her long time on this earth, whether as a welcoming friend willing to open her home to others, by "stirring the pot" with her animated sense of humor, or with her exceptional cooking and closely-held family recipes. To her grandchildren, Noni was a mischievous story teller who never shied away from the chance to display her pride in them. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver; sister, Rose; and brothers, Robert, Joseph and Frank. She is survived by her sons, Dr. Oliver "Butch" L. Marianetti and Dr. David L. Marianetti; daughter-in-law, Jane M. Marianetti; former daughter-in-law, Carol Marianetti; her grandchildren, Gina M. Marianetti, Rebecca E. Marianetti, Christopher B. Marianetti and Diana Marianetti Ringuette; and her great-grandchildren, Lucca S. Kerkmans and Eleanor M. White. SCHOLTZ, OUIDA MIZE Ouida, age 82, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2013. She was surrounded by her children, Susan Scholtz, John Scholtz and Ouida Goodwin. Ouida was born in Waycross, Georgia on August 14, 1931. She lived in Jacksonville, FL then Macon, GA until she met the love of her life, John C. Scholtz Jr. They honeymooned in Acapulco, Mexico and then spent 27 years in the Air Force. Ouida lived thru the phone call in the middle of the night in 1968 when she found out her husband had been shot down over North Vietnam in an RF-4C and was rescued and sent home. Her 20th move in the Air Force was to Albuquerque in 1968 where her husband "Jack" had always wanted to live and he started the Air Force Laser Research Lab. In 1971 they built a house near the Arroyo Del Oso golf course and Ouida lived and gardened there for over 40 years. She sent her three kids to college from that house, held Susan's wedding there and half raised her Grandson John Gutierrez until he could drive. When she was healthy she enjoyed walking around the golf course and watching the incredible sunsets. Ouida was surrounded by her beloved books and magazines. She was always quoting Ralph Waldo Emerson and Ernest Hemingway. Probably Ouida's most beloved passion was cooking and cookbooks. She loved entertaining her family over the holidays as well as attending those events at her children's home. There were many recipes that her husband and family loved, from her "southern fried" chicken to Julia Child's Beef bourguignon. Ouida would often say that she never met an ocean she didn't love. She traveled to Europe several times with her son John and would open the shades on her window and just stare at the Atlantic Ocean in wonderment. She is survived by three children: Her oldest daughter, Susan and husband Charlie Gutierrez live and work in Albuquerque and have one son, John Gutierrez who is married to Ann Marie and lives in Houston. Ouida Goodwin, her youngest daughter, has worked for Xerox for 32 years and resides in Salt Lake City, Utah with daughter Anne Goodwin. Bill Goodwin III (grandson) is attending Navy Jet Flight School in Meridian, Mississippi after graduating from the US Naval Academy in 2012. Ouida's son, John C. Scholtz III graduated from the US Air Force Academy, served in the Air Force, now lives in Cincinnati, Ohio and flies Boeing 767s out of Detroit, MI for Delta Air Lines. John is married to Denise and has two children, John IV "Jack" (17) and Clara (14). A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery, 700 Yale Blvd. SE. In lieu of flowers, Miss Ouida's wishes were for donations to be made to her beloved Wesleyan College, where she attended on scholarship.
