ANDERSON, JACK Age 88, the greatest father, grandfather & great-grandfather, passed away Monday, February 11, 2013. Jack was born March 20, 1924, one of three sons of Axel and Nora Anderson of Iola, Kansas. A veteran of WWII, he was a Navy fighter pilot flying the F4U Corsair off the aircraft carrier Intrepid. He later served in the Korean War as a landing signal officer on an aircraft carrier. He was a successful businessman and avid golfer. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Mary. He is survived by two daughters, Sharon and Sue Ellen; son, Jack and his wife, Sue; five grandchildren, Mike, Scott, Ryan, Megan and Dustin; six great-grandchildren, Lindsay, Cameron, Phoebe, Avery, Abigail and Phoenix; and one great-grandchild on the way. BALDING, JEFFREY EARL of Albuquerque, NM passed away peacefully in his home on February 11, 2013 with his loving wife Paula by his side. To know Jeff was to love him, he was a force of nature with a magnetic personality that drew people to him. He was the light and life of every gathering and embraced everyone with his warmth and humor. For those of us that were lucky enough to call him husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, or friend, there will forever be a huge void and emptiness in our hearts and lives. Jeffrey is survived by his devoted wife, Paula Otero-Balding; daughters, Jessica, Susannah and her fiancee Randy Fender; sons, Alexander Balding, Nelson Culley and his fiancee Kiele Padama; his step-children, Mark McCrea and his daughters Jade and Kiara, Cassandra Cruz and her husband Cain and Craig Ford; sisters Sherry Kirk, Jennifer Betterson and her husband Tom, and Elizabeth Griffith. Jeffrey was preceded in death by his father SMSgt (Ret.) Lawrence M. Balding, mother Thelma J. Balding, and sister Cathy. Services will be held at The Shrine of St. Bernadette Catholic Church on Saturday, 16 February 2013 at 8:00 am. Following the services there will be a reception and celebration of Jeffrey's life at his home in Albuquerque. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Wounded Warriors on Jeffrey's behalf.

DIETERICH, ROGER M., SR Age 86, a resident of New Mexico since 1951, went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 2, 2013, and left all of his earthly illnesses and pain behind. Roger was born August 7, 1926 in Dubuque, Iowa to Arnold A. Dieterich and Gertrude E. (Ahrendt) Dieterich. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946, as a Radioman 3rd Class aboard the PCE 882 and PCE 842 (both destroyer escorts) during and after WWII. The PCE 882 crew received service ribbons for the Liberation of the Philippine Islands and a ship citation was awarded the PCE 842 for following a large floating dry dock, adrift in a typhoon in the Western Pacific Ocean. While on station in the Philippine Sea between Guam, Philippine Islands and Japan, one of the duties of the PCE 882 radio crew was sending weather reports every 2-4 hours and to aid B-29 crews returning from missions over Japan. Roger attended college at the University of Dubuque and also the University of New Mexico. He spent four years as a sales agent and supervisor for Mid-Continent Airlines in Kansas City, KS and Minneapolis, MN. He then moved on to his career as an Air Traffic Controller and supervisor employed by the CAA / FAA at the Albuquerque Air Route Traffic Control Center, where he worked for 33 years, retiring in 1982. He was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws, Glenn Schrack and Margaret (Felsing) Schrack. He is survived by his sweet, loving wife of 60 years, Cossette (Schrack) Dieterich; son, Roger Dieterich, Jr.; and six grandchildren, Roger III, Caroline Grandchamp (Reid) and great-granddaughters Natalie and Amelia Grandchamp, William, Harrison, Wesley, and Jillian, all of Colorado; daughter, Peggy Murtagh and husband, Mike; and three step-grandchildren, Sarah Murtagh, Melissa McManus (Jared), Daniel Murtagh (Rachel); and four additional great-grandchildren, Ryan, Kaylie, Elizabeth, and Roryn, all of the eastern U.S. Roger is also survived by his sister, Dorothy Wick and husband Warrington of Dubuque; sister-in-law, Beverly Schmeltzer of Albuquerque; many nieces, nephews, and cousins including his good friend and cousin, Arline Dieterich, also of Dubuque, and his longtime barber and friend, Gerald Aragon of Ambrose Barber Shop. In his spare time, Roger enjoyed coaching for the Altamont Little League in the 1960's, and after retirement, spent 10 years as a volunteer tax preparer for Albuquerque Senior Services and an election poll official. The family wishes to thank the many physicians and their staff that took such great care of Roger through the years, only some of who are Doctors Kathleen Allen, Peter Walinsky, John Liljestrand, Chris Patton, Vincent Ortelano, Mitchell Binder, Beth Saltzman, Kathy Ligon, Gary Schroeder, and Steven Roholt. We are most grateful to the staff and directors at The Cottages Alzheimer's Care Community in Albuquerque, and especially his "buddy", Morris. ESTRADA, TULIO Tulio Estrada MD, age 85, a resident of Albuquerque since 2000, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 12, 2013. He is survived by his children, Patricia Estrada of New Orleans, LA, Tina Stacy and husband, Mark Stacy of Durham, NC, Dan Estrada and wife, Debbie Estrada of Albuquerque, NM, Vicky Estrada-Bustillo and husband, Juan Bustillo of Albuquerque, NM, and Nancy Moore and husband, Guy Moore of Bacliff, TX; grandchildren, Reuben Druckrey, Bryan and Andrea Stacy, Nicolas Griffin Estrada, Savannah and Julian Bustillo, Katalina and Clayton Crawford and David Moore; & one great-granddaughter, Natalie Keenan. Tulio was the oldest of 10 brothers and sisters. He is survived by brothers, Marino, Alcides, Ruben Dario, and Virgilio Estrada; sisters, Gabriela Hurtado and Luz Elena Estrada; and sister-in-law, Maria Eugenia Estrada Grueso, all of Colombia, South America. He also leaves behind a large extended family in Colombia, and many dear friends throughout the world who are sharing an immense loss with his passing. Dr. Estrada was preceded in death by his beloved wife Carol Griffin Estrada, his parents Dr. Roberto Estrada and Clementina Estrada Angel, his step-mother Gabriela, his brothers Roberto, Fr. Miguel, and Cesar Estrada, and his son-in-law John Druckrey. Tulio was born on September 16, 1927 in Salamina, Colombia, South America, and was an avid scholar throughout his life. He was awarded the Most Distinguished Graduate of all high school students in Bogota at his graduation from Colegio De La Salle. He went on to complete his Medical Degree in Bogota from the National University of Colombia. Dr. Estrada's proudest accomplishments include his efforts as a founding member of the Colombia Psychiatric Society, Faculty Member of the University of Missouri Psychiatry Department, and Director of the Psychiatry Residency Training Program at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, TX. During his long medical career on two continents he served as a member of the Colombian Medical Federation, American Medical Association, American Association of University Professors, Directors of Psychiatric Residency Training, an honorary member of Titus Harris Society, and a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. After nearly forty years of service, he retired as a Professor of Psychiatry in 1995. Dr. Estrada will be long remembered for his contribution as an influential and respected physician and mentor. Tulio had numerous interests and hobbies including music, linguistics, politics, history, and discovering the best ethnic restaurants. His greatest pleasure came from his children and grandchildren. After retiring, he enrolled in a one year culinary course. The results provided much enjoyment, and many dish washings for all of the family. Tulio was an aficionado of classical music, and an accomplished violin player. He was a member of the Physician Orchestra in Manizales, Colombia, as well as member of the Symphony Orchestras in Pueblo Colorado and Galveston Texas. In more recent years he took up growing Dahlia's and was often awarded prizes for his entries in the Albuquerque State Fair. Tulio would most like to be remembered for having raised a loving and devoted family with his wife of 55 years, Carol, and being an influential professor and advisor to many Psychiatrists. His family will have fond memories of his infectious laughter, sincere devotion to family, deep affection for his grandchildren, superb cooking, and his love of culture. GARDENHIRE, JOE NATHAN passed away in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in his home on February 4, 2013 at the age of 46. He was born on October 30, 1966. Joe was a man that you could rely on and he was always dependable. He was kind, loyal and generous to his friends. He was a man who could forgive and be forgiven. Joe was a quiet man but he had a wonderful sense of humor. One of his passions in life was playing the piano and writing music. HICKEY, BARBARA LOU Age 77, a resident of Albuquerque, died on Tuesday, February 12, 2013. She is survived by three daughters Karen Hickey Vernon of Albuquerque, NM, June Smith and Alice Ferrari and seven grandchildren. Barbara was a teacher and Librarian and graduated from Northern Illinois University. She resided in Illinois, Florida and New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, brother and her husband Donald Hickey. Barbara was a member of Bella Vista Baptist Church. JAMES, MARY ORMISTON Age 84, a resident of Albuquerque for 48 years, passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2013 in her sleep at the Manzano Del Sol. She was born to Glen and Jaunita Ormiston, on September 27, 1928 in Barlow, Ohio. She graduated with Honors from Lorain Ohio high school in 1946. She received her RN degree at Saint Luke's Hospital in Cleveland Ohio in 1949. She married her loving husband Charles G James in 1950. Mary worked as an RN in Columbus, Ohio while her husband attended Ohio State U. While she was a loving mother raising three children, the family moved to Albuquerque in 1965. She resumed working as a RN at Job Core, Memorial, and Lovelace hospitals until she retired. She belonged to the Central United Methodist Church, enjoyed square dancing, playing tennis, and liked Panda Bears. She is survived by her sister Lois Wingate; brother Roger Ormiston; sons Charles and Glen James; daughter Jennifer Bloch; grandchildren Hunter, Leighton, Everett Bloch, Megan, and Katelyn James. She was a loving grandmother and celebrated all of their accomplishments. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2008. JOHNSON, MARK ALBERT On February 11th, Mark Albert Johnson, age 52, passed away at his home. He was born in Lowell, MA on May 29, 1960 and lived in Albuquerque after four years in the Navy. Mark achieved his Associate's Degree in Landscape Architecture and owned Simply Handy and Fresco Glass, creating custom dalle de verre glass art. His nephew, Jed Vickers, worked very closely with him. Mark was a thoughtful man with a warm heart, beautiful smile, and that Johnson sense of humor that always made friends and family laugh. He was an accomplished juggler with no fear of flaming objects, and well known for his love of games and competition, and frequently rewrote the rules as the game progressed. He felt strongly about addiction recovery and donated a large glass art to the Heroin Awareness Committee fundraiser for an adolescent treatment facility. Mark was preceded in death by his father, Wallace E. Johnson; brother, Peter Johnson; and brother-in-law, Scott Cassidy. He is survived by his mother, Nancy M. Johnson of Virginia Beach, VA; as well as siblings and spouses, Susan Mackey Andrews and Fred Andrews of Dover-Foxcroft, ME, Linda Dashnaw of Shrewsbury, MA, Betsy Cassidy of Virginia Beach, David and Marie Johnson of North Adams, MA and Kathy Johnson and Vince Hopkins of Albuquerque, NM. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, including Jed Vickers of Albuquerque, NM who worked with Mark; Ellen and Brian Love, James Vickers of Albuquerque, NM; Robert and Kindel Stubblefield of Killeen, TX and Lee Stubblefield of Buda, TX; Sydney and John Haggerty of Dover-Foxcroft; Jessamyn Mackey of Portland, ME; Jennifer Johnson in Nairobi, Kenya; Eric and Sonja Johnson of Shrewsbury, MA; Matthew Johnson of Boston, MA; Meagan Dunton, Brennan and Megan Cassidy and Devan and Josh Colbaugh of Kingman, AZ; Ryan and Lisa Cassidy of Virginia Beach, VA; and Melissa and David Leeds of Savannah, GA. He is also survived by eight great-nephews and six great-nieces. We would like to thank all friends of the family and especially, Gaye Roth, for her role as Mark's creative partner for so many years. JONES, VERA LASITER Age 92, passed away peacefully at 3:30pm on January 21, 2013 in Birmingham, Alabama following a lengthy battle with dementia. She was born in Ione, Arkansas on August 16, 1920. She was a kind and loving wife, mother and friend to many. She and her husband owned Blanchard Rock Shop in Bingham, New Mexico, for many years. Vera was preceded in death by one son, Boyd Jones; her husband, Sam "rattlesnake" Jones; and all eight of her siblings. She is survived by two children, Gwen Jones Poe of Albuquerque and Randy Jones and his wife, Mary Marshall of Birmingham, Alabama; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 12:15pm on Sunday, February 17th at First United Methodist Church, 4th and Lead. Her final resting place will be in the family plot in Socorro, New Mexico. PIKE, HARRY H. passed away on Monday, February 11, 2013 at the age of 80. Harry was born in Cambridge, Ma, to Mr and Mrs. Charles H. Pike on Oct. 25, 1932. He attended Somerville High School. Upon graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After completing his tour of duty he attended Wentworth Institute in Boston, where he earned his degree in Electrical Engineering. On August 10, 1957 he married his sweetheart, Kay-Marilyn Hansen of South Coventry, CT. They raised four wonderful children, Leslea Hurt (husband John), Charles (wife Rebecca), Stacy Tucker (husband Mike), Jennifer Alvis (husband John). They were proud grandparents of 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is survived by his beloved sister, Nancy Scott. He was active in St. Paul's United Methodist Church, where he sang in the church choir, and served on various committees. Services will be held on Friday February 15, 2013, 2:00pm at St. Paul's U.M.C. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Music Dept. of St. Paul's U.M.C.

REYES, BOBBY Age 62, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, February 13, 2013. He was preceded in death by parents Salvador and Faustina Reyes, and half brother Alfredo V. Reyes (SSGTUSMC). He is survived by daughter, Sarah and Brandon Monarski; brothers: Ed and Shirley Reyes, Salvador and Michaela Reyes, and Dave and Peggy Reyes; and one grandchild, Ariana Monarski. Bobby was a master woodworker and often built beautiful southwestern furniture. He was involved in several ministries including the Pit Stop at Sagebrush and his missionary work in Juarez, Mexico. There was nothing he enjoyed more than spending time with family and friends. Bobby's Life Celebration will begin with a Visitation held at Sagebrush Community Church (6440 Coors Blvd NW) at 10:00 am on Monday, February 18, followed by a Life Celebration Service at 11:00 am. REYNOLDS, STEVEN W. passed February 9th at Montebello in Albuquerque. He was born February 18, 1959 to Charles and Lois Reynolds in Taos, New Mexico. He attended Taos High School when he was overcome by carbon monoxide poisoning while house sitting during his senior year. He was left paralyzed and legally blind. He was able to converse and enjoyed listening to music and enjoyed watching movies. He had many Taos volunteers move his arms and legs daily. He moved with his mother and father to Albuquerque in 2009 to receive more care. He was in and out of Lovelace hospital and enjoyed the ambulance rides very much. He will be missed by his two younger brothers, C Alan, living in California, and Brian, living in Florida, as well as many friends and relatives. Services are pending.

SANCHEZ, THELMA M. Age 86, passed away Monday, February 11, 2013 with her loving family by her side. Thelma was a lifetime resident of Albuquerque. She is survived by her son, Charles Sanchez and wife Nancy; daughters, Pearl Sanchez and Lorraine Gallegos; 13 grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren; sister, Lori Davis and niece, Rosella Griego; numerous nieces; nephews; extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Lucy Gargoura; beloved husband, Hector Sanchez Sr.; son, Hector Sanchez Jr.; daughter, Lucy Sanchez; brothers, Joseph Jr. and George Gargoura and aunt Margaret Perea. Thelma was a lifetime member and devout servant of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a Eucharistic Minister; taught catechism, and belonged to the Altar Society, Legion of Mary and the Holy Name Society. She was an active member until she fell ill. She enjoyed playing bingo and visiting the casino. Her love for her children, grandchildren and family kept her going. A reciting of the Rosary will take place at Sacred Heart Catholic Church 301 Stover Ave. SW Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 9:30 am followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 am; Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers are her grandsons, Cedric Valdez, Dominic Anaya, Mike Gallegos Jr., Mark Gallegos, Chris Gallegos and Zach Martinez. Honorary Bearers are Adam Campos, Sam Sanchez, Zeke Benavidez and Issacc Castillo. Thelma will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. SERNA, GLORIA A. beloved mother and sister, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 4, 2013. Gloria was born on September 7, 1936 in Cedar Grove, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents Abran and Herculiana Serna and her sister Maria Serna-Cano. Gloria is survived by her devoted son Danny Serna; brother Pete Serna; sisters Olympia Serna, Angie Buckwald, Celia Marino, and Rita Chavez. Gloria was a loving and caring person with a quiet soul, who was loved by many. She was known for her kindness and gentle spirit. Gloria loved to play "Marbles" with her family and was extremely adept at winning. A Rosary will be held on Friday, February 15, 2013 at 9:30am, followed immediately by a Mass at Queen of Heaven Church, 5311 Phoenix Ave. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110.
