ALDERETE, ANNA L. was born September 9, 1948 in Los Chavez, NM. and passed away on Monday, January 7, 2013 at the age of 64, in Albuquerque, NM. She was preceded in death by her life long companion, John Lattanza; mother, Bernadita Romero; dad, Manuel Alderete; stepfather, Tony Aragon; brothers, Mel Alderete, Manuel Alderete Jr.; sisters, Bernice Gutierrez and Jeanell Gomez. She is survived by her brothers, Johnny Alderete Aragon, Clemente Gomez and Fred Gutierrez; sisters, Mercy and husband William Harrington, Gloria and husband Dennis Romero, Carolyn and husband Manuel Alderete; children's father, Mike Salas; son, Michael Salas; daughter, Donna and husband Steve Dumont; grandchildren, Michaela and Michael Salas Jr. and many nieces, nephews and friends that who loved and will miss her greatly. Anna was a wonderful mom, friend and an amazing caregiver to others. She was a member of New Beginnings Church and a sponsor of The Special Olympics. Anna also was a six year cancer survivor. Services will be held at New Beginnings Church, 3601 Montgomery Blvd. N.E. Albuquerque on Saturday, January, 12, 2013 with a Viewing at 9:00am with Services at 10:00am. ANDERSON, STEVEN MARK "ROCKER" better known by his family and friends as "Rocker," was born in Abilene, Texas on June 18, 1963. Steven was tragically killed on December 24, 2012 when he was caught in an avalanche while snowboarding at the Donner Ski Ranch, Truckee, California. Steve was preceded in death by his mother Nan Louise (Claunch) Anderson and his sister Kimberly Marie Anderson. He is survived by his father F. Rod Anderson and step-mother Leilani Anderson; brother Chris Anderson and fiancee Hope McIntosh; his step-brother Jeff Ostermann and wife Suk Ostermann; step-brother Chris Ostermann and wife Monique Ostermann; step-sister Sue Supple and husband Dr. Robert Supple; Uncle Roger Anderson and wife Sherry Anderson; and many nephew, nieces and cousins. Steve attended Sandia High School before enlisting in the U.S Air Force in 1981 and was honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1992. While in the USAF, Steve was deployed to bases worldwide and served in the Gulf war for nine months. After retiring from the service and being stationed at McClellan AFB in Sacramento, he moved to Truckee, where he ran his own welding shop in the summer, taught snowboarding in the winter, and was very active in World Cup Sk8boarding and X-Games for ESPN, building and judging events all over the world. Steve moved back to Albuquerque four years ago to be close to his family and to work as a welder and artist. But in June 2012, California beckoned, so he returned to Truckee and the mountains he so loved. Steve is to be inducted into the snowboarding Hall of Fame on April 16, 2013. An avid surfer who went to Ixtapa, Mexico, every year, Steve was also an accomplished guitarist, singer and metal sculptor artist. A man with a heart of gold, he always put his family first. We will dearly miss him. There will be a memorial service at the Central United Methodist Church, 201 University Blvd N.E., on Saturday. January 12, 2013 at 10:30 AM. There will also be a memorial service in Truckee, California, on February 2, 2012 from 4:00-6:00pm at the Truckee-Donner Reception Hall to celebrate his life.

BESSON, PAULINE GOLDIE Age 93, a resident of Albuquerque for over 70 years, passed away Monday, January 7, 2013. She was born on February 26, 1919 to Ollie and Dora Kindred near Blanchard, Oklahoma. She was married to George Besson for 57 years, who preceded her in death. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Onetia Stacy and Dorothy Johnson; and two brothers, Jack Kindred and Floyd Kindred. She is survived by her four children, Gordon Besson (wife Betty), Kenneth Besson (Vanessa Mercer), Melba Baum, and Tom Besson, (wife Sara Nurnberg); six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Joe Kindred and Bronelle (Pete) Kindred; and two sisters, Faye Cleal and Louise Beeson. Pauline was a long time member of Fruit Ave. Baptist Church and Victory Extension Club. She was a devoted mother and homemaker and an expert seamstress. She enjoyed making friends during the time she spent as an "Avon Lady". The family would like to express their deepest and most heartfelt appreciation to the owners and staff of the Garland House and Dr. Suzanne Pinon, who cared for her the past 6 years. BLAKELY, WAYNE MARCUS passed away peacefully on January 1, 2013 at the age of 55 years. Born on September 27, 1957, Wayne was a life long resident of New Mexico and had resided in the East Mountains for most of his adult life. Wayne was a 1975 graduate of Valley High School in Albuquerque. He was a highly accomplished carpenter and craftsman and took great pride in creating beautiful works. He left behind many examples of his craftsmanship that his family and friends will enjoy for years to come. Wayne had a love of history and fishing. He was preceded in death by his sister Sharon and his father Garry. Wayne is survived by his mother Marilyn Lake; his brother Stuart and wife Ruth; his aunt Louise Hardy; many cousins, nieces, nephews; grand-nieces and grand-nephews; and his beloved cat Concha who was his constant companion. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 11th at 3:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church at 215 Locust Street NE, Albuquerque, NM.

CRAWFORD, FRANCES ELIZABETH WEEKS was born on December 31, 1922 in Whitney, TX, to Thomas and Ola Mae Weeks. She passed from this life on December 25, 2012 in Albuquerque, NM. Frances graduated from Whitney High School at age 16 and went to Hill Country Junior College in Hillsboro, TX, where she received an Associate Degree. Soon after that, she met a newly graduated Texas A & M young man who had come to Whitney as the new Agriculture teacher, Don Crawford. Don was drafted, entered the Army, qualified for Officer Training School and eventually became a pilot in the Army Air Corps. As WWII was winding down, Frances joined Don in Phoenix, AZ, and they were married on March 21, 1945. Don mustered out of the Air Corps and took a teaching position in Yuma, AZ, where they lived until 1952. Frances couldn't stand the heat of Yuma, so the family moved to Albuquerque where Don had been briefly stationed during the war. Don entered the life insurance business and Frances was a homemaker to their three children. Frances was widowed in 1978 at only 55 years of age. She had never worked outside the home, but at that time she took over Don's insurance business. In the following 30 years, she managed a very successful agency for National Old Line Insurance Company, being named Outstanding Performer more than ten times. Frances was very involved in the community, serving as president of the Albuquerque Woman's Club, and maintaining an active membership in the Life Underwriters Association. She also served one year as President of the Alumni Association of Whitney High School. Her church involvement was most important in her life. The family were members of the University Church of Christ, and later Frances attended Montgomery Church of Christ, where she was a faithful greeter for years. Frances and Don were instrumental in the establishment of the Albuquerque Christian Children's Home. Don was Chairman of the Board at the time of his death and Frances served on the Board of Directors until 2004. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Tom Paul Weeks, her sister, Ethel Wooten, and her beloved husband, Don. She is survived by her daughter, Carole Crawford DeArman and husband, Ron of Richardson, TX; son, Charles "Pat" Crawford and wife, Penny of Houston, TX; son, Thomas "Mike" Crawford and Kathleen of Albuquerque; five grandchildren, Wade DeArman and wife, Sheridan of McKinney, TX, Chad DeArman of Dallas, TX, Clay Crawford of Austin, TX, Kindall Crawford of Charleston, SC, and Alexander Crawford of Fayetteville, AK. She had two beautiful great-granddaughters, Avery and McKinley DeArman of McKinney, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews, including Harold and Jan Cheves of Albuquerque. Services will be held Saturday, January 12, 2012, 2:00 p.m., at Montgomery Church of Christ, 7201 Montgomery Blvd. NE. Interment will be held at a later date at the Crawford family cemetery in Bridgeport, TX. HELSLEY, EDWARD F. Age 69, of Bernalillo, New Mexico passed away January 6, 2013. Born in Evansville, Indiana to Marguerite Raney and Edward Helsley, Edward graduated from Reitz Memorial High School in 1961 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California in 1966. Shortly after commencement, Edward joined the Air Force where he later earned the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service as a pilot in Vietnam. After his military service, he spent his corporate career in the elevator industry. Edward had a thirst for adventure and loved traveling; Alaska and Mexico were his favorite destinations. He was also passionate about aviation and collecting art. Edward is survived by two children: John Helsley, of San Diego, and Elizabeth Helsley, of Mexico City and granddaughter, Jillian Helsley. He is also survived by his loyal Golden Retriever, Goldie.

HENNING, DARLENE Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, formerly of Sheboygan, WI and longtime resident of Albuquerque, NM, went to our Lord on Sunday, January 6, 2013. Darlene was born in Sheboygan, December 27, 1932, the daughter of the late Marvin and Lorraine Henning. Darlene is survived by six children, Michael (Lorraine) Rondeau, Steven Rondeau, Lori Rondeau, Terry Rondeau, Todd (Melissa) Schnuelle and Jodi Caffrey; 22 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two brothers Jack (Jodell) Henning, Mark (Darlene) Henning. She was preceded in death by former husband Glen Schnuelle; son Tim Rondeau; infant sister Carol Henning; and granddaughter TSGT Brooke Caffrey. A funeral service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 10000 Spain Rd NE, Albuquerque on Friday, January 11th at 3:00pm with visitation at 2:30pm. Interment and memorial will be later in Sheboygan. JARAMILLO, GENARA MAESTAS was born on February 29, 1932 in Cuba, New Mexico and passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2013 in Albuquerque. Genara was preceded in death by her husband, Moises Jaramillo; her father, Antonio Maestas; mother, Francisquita Martinez; son, Gilbert Jaramillo; grandson, Henry Jaramillo Jr.; brother, Ivan Maestas and sister, Neomi Dimas. She is survived by her sons, Robert and wife, Victoria, Henry and Bernadette, Floyd and wife Viola, Dean, Pat and Maria; daughters, Gina and Ronnie, Elaine and husband Isidro Jr.; brothers, Alfonso "Joe" Maestas, Tony and wife Rachel Maestas; sisters, Ernestina Benavidez, Mary Jane Sanchez, Eremita Chavez, Rose and husband Pres Martinez; sister-in-law, Nora Madrid and husband Ben; seventeen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; as well as many other family members and friends who loved and will miss her. At Genara's request, cremation has taken place. Services will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church 301 S. Camino Del Pueblo, Bernalillo, N.M. A Rosary will be recited on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 7:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 10:00 am. JOHNSON, DENICE M. born on February 27, 1948 in Kodoka, South Dakota and passed away on Monday, December 10, 2012 in Albuquerque, at the age of 64. Denice Honorably served in the US Army, where she was an Army Nurse from, 1970 to 1973. From 1973 to 1987 she worked as a Nurse at VA Medical Centers, then went on provided in home nursing from 1987 to 2012. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Lorena Polenz of Hill City. SD. Denice is survived by her son, Travis W. Johnson; sisters, Phyllis Hanson of Rapid City. SD. and Elaine; brother, Brad Polenz SD.; as well as other family members and friends who loved and will miss her. MILLER, JAY DUVALL JR. Age 80, a longtime resident of Albuquerque and Rio Rancho, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 7, 2013. He is survived by his wife, of 61 years, Rose Mary DiSanti Miller originally of Pueblo, CO; Jay D. Miller III "Sonny" and Judith Miller of Albuquerque, NM, Cheryl D. Williams of Las Cruces, NM, Cindy M. Vigil of Albuquerque, NM, Jay D. Miller IV "JD" and Paula Marquez of Albuquerque, NM; granddaughter, whom he and his wife raised, Charla L. Miller-Sanchez and Cesar Sanchez of Albuquerque, NM; sister, Gladys A. Blea and Frank Blea of Albuquerque, NM; eight additional grandchildren and their spouses and eight great grandchildren. Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his father, Jay D. Miller Sr.; his mother, Alberta M. Spaniol Miller and his granddaughter, Michelle Nicole Miller. Mr. Miller proudly served his country in the US Navy from July 11, 1949 to May 22, 1952. His enlistment included service aboard the naval ship LST-859, first ship to touch the beach at Inchon during the Korean War. He was awarded the Navy Unit Commendation Medal, Korean Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and Navy Occupation Medal for his military service. Life after the Navy included various entrepreneurial ventures, which included owning an ice cream shop and a feed store. Mr. Miller's hobbies included clowning for the ELKS, spending time with family, watching baseball, raising various livestock, and serving as a licensed judge for the American Poultry Association. Of all the accomplishments in his life, the most important to him was the family he and his wife raised together. He was proud of each and every one of them and didn't hesitate to express this sentiment to anyone he came in contact with him. Your family thanks you for the gifts you provided each of us. NAPOLITANO, LEONARD DR. former dean of the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 7, 2013. Dr. Napolitano was born in 1930 in Oakland, CA, one of three children and the only son of Italian immigrants. He attended Santa Clara University where in 1950, he quarterbacked the Broncos to an upset Orange Bowl win over Bear Bryant's Kentucky Wildcats. Napolitano earned a PhD. in anatomy from St. Louis University and proceeded to teach at Cornell Medical School and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He moved to New Mexico in 1964 to become one of the seven founding faculty at the newly established School of Medicine at UNM. He became interim Dean of the medical school in 1972 and was named permanent Dean the following year, serving in that capacity until his retirement in 1994. Under his leadership, Dr. Napolitano presided over the dramatic expansion of the medical school and health sciences complex on the North campus of UNM, creating an environment known nationally and internationally for its innovative teaching curriculum. Dr. Napolitano was a highly effective advocate for the medical school at the legislature in Santa Fe. Due to these efforts, the medical school and the associated health sciences campus became one of New Mexico's chief assets. Among many other honors, Dr. Napolitano received the medical school's first Living Legend award in 2009. Dr. Napolitano loved opera, Tony Bennett, good food, and good company. He was an avid reader and a passionate supporter of the arts. He loved his family and had deep and enduring friendships all over the world. Dr. Napolitano was preceded in death by his wife Jane. He is survived by his three children, Leonard Jr., Janet and Nancy; his daughter-in-law Elle; his grandchildren, Carrie, David, William and Sarah Jane; and his longtime companion Thelma Domenici. A memorial service for family and friends of Dr. Napolitano will be held Saturday, January 12, 2013, 11:00 AM at the Domenici Education Center at UNM. ORTIZ, JOHN E. Age 68, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2013. He is survived by his wife, Georgie L. PADILLA, JOHN RAYMOND aka Mr. P, passed away peacefully and comfortably on January 3, 2013, at the age of 67 after a long, hard battle with diabetes. He was surrounded by the love of his immediate family and friends. He is survived by two brothers, Gilbert and Charles; son Mark and daughter-in-law Amanda; daughters Aubra and Jennifer; granddaughter Elena; grandsons Kenneth and Leroy James; niece Tamara; as well as many aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends; and his beloved dog Max. Mr. Padilla was known as a great outdoorsman and was well-known for the stories he told of his outdoor adventures. This made him a favorite of the doctors and staff at UNM Hospital where, unfortunately, he was a frequent patient. PICKARD, LEANDER "LEE" A. Age 94, passed away January 7, 2013 in Rio Rancho New Mexico. He was born April 14, 1918 in Hornell, New York to Adah Griswold Pickard and Leander G. Pickard. Leander "Lee" is survived by his wife of 72 years, Welma Bates Pickard; sons Leander G. Pickard and Kenneth D. Pickard; daughter-in-law Renee Pickard and one grandson Ronald K. Pickard of Albuquerque; daughter Karen L. Pickard of Rio Rancho; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends and loved ones. Lee was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Marian Pickard of Idyllwild, California, and Marilyn Simms of Canisteo, New York. Lee was a veteran who served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He worked for 38 years as a switchman and conductor on the railroad and retired from ConRail. He came to New Mexico in 1987 from Meadville PA where he had lived for 20 years before becoming a resident for Rio Rancho, NM. Lee joined the Covenant Christian Church in Rio Rancho and helped build the church on Iris road and served as Sunday school teacher and Elder for many years. Lee was an avid sports fan and his favorite teams were the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns.
