BARGMAN, EDWARD FRED From a peaceful sleep, Edward Bargman, age 96, was called to our Lord's side. Ed passed on the morning of December 27, 2012. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and devoted friend. Ed was born in Kewaunee, Wisconsin on December 18, 1916. As a member of our country's "greatest generation" Ed conducted himself with distinction in the European Theater, receiving four bronze stars among numerous other decorations. As a young man, before and after the War, Ed played serious hardball in the state of Wisconsin, earning all-star positions at short stop and third base. Throughout his life he remained an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He began listening to Cubs games on the radio along with his mother in Wisconsin and seldom missed a chance to catch a game on television once he moved to New Mexico. In his later years he participated in horseshoe tournaments throughout the state and when he could no longer compete to his standards he volunteered over numerous summers to maintain the horseshoe pits at Los Altos Park. He used his skills as a sheet metal worker (Union Local 49) to provide his family of seven children with a bountiful upbringing. It was not unheard of for Ed to volunteer for extra hours or even work second jobs to secure the well being of his family. In retirement Ed didn't retire. He spent 12 years as a volunteer with Laborers For Christ, building churches throughout our state. All these endeavors sort of describe Ed Bargman but perhaps there is one aspect of his life that defines him. Ed was a man of faith; faith in his fellow man, surely, but most importantly faith in the Lord. His love of God and his unwavering trust in His guidance were the foundation of Ed's uncanny ability to choose the right path, to fight the right battles, and to give the strongest and wisest advice. His sense of humor, his blue-eyed squint, and his gold-toothed grin could combine to bring an entire roomful of people to tears of laughter. Those kinds of social skills as well as his sense of well-being and control over his own destiny seemed, once again, to derive from his boundless faith in the Lord. It is not often that one is fortunate enough to encounter a person of such inspirational faith. The family and friends of Ed Bargman are among those fortunate ones. He will be dearly missed. Ed was the son of Edward and Bertha (Tess) Bargmann, both deceased. Ed's siblings were Clarence Bargmann, Herb Bargmann, Hildegard Zimmerman, and Erna Teske each of whom preceded him in death. His wife Evelyn passed in 2010. His grandson Caleb Bargman also preceded him. Ed is survived by all seven of his children. They include: Edward James Bargman, daughter Byrd A. C. Bargman, son Steve Bargman and his wife Cindy, daughter Ruth Bargman-Romero and her husband Lou, son Tom Bargman, son John Bargman and his wife Christine, son Bill Bargman and his wife Rhonda. Ed's family also includes seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 7 at 10:30 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 300 Gold St. SE in Albuquerque. There will be a brief viewing that day at 10:15 AM. After the service a meal will be served at the parish hall. Ed will be interred that day at 3:00 PM at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Ed's name to: Laborers For Christ c/o Lutheran Church Extension Fund, 10733 Sunset Office Drive Suite 300, St. Louis, MO 3127-1020. JARAMILLO, LINDA GAUME Linda Lou Gaume Jaramillo of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away surrounded by her loving family on December 18, 2012. She was 61. Linda was a generous person who was always looking for a way to help others, whether through her work as an educator and researcher at the New Mexico Municipal League or her daily interactions with loved ones and strangers. Her extraordinary sense of empathy and compassion frequently led her to boldly act to try to improve the lives of other people and the world around her. She was keenly aware of injustice and deeply committed to fighting it. She was born April 14, 1951, in El Paso, Texas (a fact which, as a proud New Mexican, she admitted reluctantly) to Dorothy (Neatherlin) and Amos Gaume. The family lived in Anthony, New Mexico, before moving to Berkeley, California, for her father to attend seminary school when she was two years old. Amos' work as an Episcopal minister took the family, including brother Norman and sister Carolyn, to Deming and Hobbs. Linda graduated from Hobbs High School in 1969. She later lived in Las Cruces, San Patricio, Socorro, Albuquerque, and Corrales. In addition to her work as a mother of three, she was employed as the City Clerk and Administrator in the Village of Corrales, Business Administrator at Camp Stoney near Santa Fe, and for the last twelve years of her life at the New Mexico Municipal League in Santa Fe. There she developed and directed a program for training elected municipal officials; it included courses in ethics, leadership, and law. She named this program Municipal Officials Leadership Institute (MOLI) and into it she poured her passion for, and knowledge of, New Mexico culture, history, and government. She hoped that better preparing elected officials for their jobs would not only benefit them, but also improve local government, increase the level of discourse in state politics, and help protect the civil liberties of all New Mexicans. Family was extremely important to Linda, who kept close ties to extended family throughout her life. This passion piqued her interest in genealogy, which she pursued with characteristic determination and energy through research in local, national, and international archives. She uncovered a great deal of information, which she worked for years to piece together to better understand and share the story of her family, including the Gaume branch, which she traced back five centuries to Montecheroux, France. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved dog, Kelly. She is survived by husband Jose Jaramillo and his daughter Kalynn; brother Norman and wife Heather; sister Carolyn Stevens and husband Mark; three children, Zach Ives and wife Laura, Clara Jeffers and husband Mario, and Kyle Jeffers and wife Andrea; three grandchildren, Harrison and Harper Ives and Olivia Jeffers; and very dear cousins, nieces, nephews, and grandnieces. A memorial service will be held at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Albuquerque on January 12 at 10:00am. A reception to be held afterwards at 4214 2nd St NW. In lieu of flowers, Linda's family requests donations to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (lls.org) or the Barrett Foundation (barrettfoundation.org)
