BALLOU -- ERVIN E. 1920-2012 Age 91, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2012. He was born in Roscommon, Michigan to Floyd Ervin Ballou and Margaret Sullivan Ballou. Ervin and Madlyn were affiliated with the Jehovah's Witnesses church since 1958 having a multitude of friends in NM, AZ, TX, CO and many other parts of the U.S. Ervin's life passions were hunting, fishing and shooting a good game of pool. A draftee of WWII, Ervin served 4 years in the U.S. Army with Cairo, Egypt being one of the exotic places he served as a Postal Clerk. After the war Ervin continued his Postal Service role for 16 years, worked in the logging industry and then in the construction trade which he continued in until recent years. He was greatly loved and will be immensely missed by all his family. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Sully, Bernard, and Eldon; his wife of 50 years, Madlyn and his son, Leonard Ballou of Los Lunas. Father of four surviving children, Brevaude (Bea) George of Belen, Floyd Ballou of Hollywood, CA, Mimi Forwoodson of Ferndale, WA and Tracey Ballou of Glendora, CA; his daughter-in-law wife of Leonard, Sandy Ballou; ten grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. CLINGENPEEL -- CYNTHIA ANN Age 60, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2012. She is survived by her mother, Marjorie M Clingenpeel of Albuquerque, NM; brother, Ted Clingenpeel and family; sister, Gail Adams and husband, Rick; niece, Tammie Silva and her children, Vincent and Vanessa; nephew, Mark Clingenpeel and his son, Cruz; niece, Shannin Schmidt and husband, Chris and their son, Asher; aunt and uncle, Joyce and Norman Bugg and family; and friends and caregivers, Lucille Gonzalez and Ramona Vinson. EWELL -- LYN ARTHUR Our beloved Father, Husband, Son, and Brother went home to be with the loving Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, January 29, 2012. He was born September 29, 1963 in Belen, NM. He grew up in Grants, NM moved to Albuquerque at the age of 18. Lyn was a Master Gardner for the City of Albuquerque Biological Park/Zoo. Lyn was an avid fisherman, hunter who loved the outdoors, riding his Harley and playing his guitar, but most of all loved the time he cherished with his family and friends. He was a faithful servant of the Lord and loved his special friends ministry and his faith was inspired by their love for Jesus Christ despite their disabilities. Lyn left an unforgettable lasting impression. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years Veronica Ewell, of Albuquerque, NM; children Diego, Brianna, Jason Ewell of Albuquerque NM; parents Robert and Alba Ewell of Grants, NM; brother Mark Ewell, of Grants, NM; sister Sandra Montano (husband Lional) of Alamagordo, NM; sister Celina Villalobos (husband Carlos) of Albuquerque, NM; two grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. FANNING -- JAMES J. (JIM) January 14, 1907 - January 28, 2012 Wow 105! Jim was born in Union City (formerly known as West Hoboken), New Jersey to Mary Murphy Fanning and Patrick Fanning, Irish immigrants from County Monaghan, Ireland. Jim was the fifth of seven children. He had one brother, John Fanning and five sisters, Katherine (Katie) Mulligan, Helen Corcoran, Elizabeth (Lilly) McLaughlin, Mary Markey and Virginia Tobin. Jim attended St. Michaels Grade School then went on to Holy Cross Prep School. Jim also attended the Minor Seminary in Dunkirk, New York. After finishing school, Jim worked on Wall Street and was there during the big crash of 1929 (he said he didn't cause it). In 1933, after his father's death, Jim left Wall Street and took over the family bus business in Hudson County, NJ which ran to New York City, NY. Jim married Elizabeth Blackadder Fanning (Bess) in 1934 and the family started to grow, eight children in all. Jim became an iron worker in New Jersey. In June 1951 the family moved to Albuquerque. Jim continued Iron Working in Albuquerque and later became the union's business agent. Later the U.S. Department of Labor appointed him Director of the Outreach Program for the State of New Mexico, in which capacity Jim spoke to minority groups to encourage them to enter the building trades. After the death of Bess, Jim met and married Marion Steed and had a happy 18 years. Marion passed away in November 2002. Jim continued his life journey, met and had a 2 1/2 yearlong marriage to Jean Moffet until her death. Preceding Jim in death were his wife, Elizabeth Fanning (Bess); children, Mary Jane Fanning, Thomas A Fanning, Capt. Martin V. Fanning, Patricia A. Wessel; second wife, Marion Fanning; and third wife, Jean Moffet. Jim's remaining children are, James J. Fanning, Jr. of Albuquerque, John Mark Fanning and wife, Emilie of Greensboro, NC, Eileen Grube of Phoenix, AZ, Elizabeth DeRochie of Albuquerque. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. There will be a Rosary 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at French Lomas Chapel. A Mass of Celebration of Life will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 3, 2012 at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 5311 Phoenix Ave NE 87110 followed by burial of his cremains at Mount Calvary Cemetery. GRIFFIN -- FREDDIE LEE Age 90, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2012. She was born in Dale, TX on January 20, 1922, to Ed and Melissa Roland. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Melissa Roland. Freddie is survived by her son, Robert Griffin Sr.; daughter Felicia Griffin; three grandchildren; and two sisters. HARRIS -- DUDLEY E. Passed away peacefully in his sleep at The San Juan Regional Medical Center on January 30th, his 104th Birthday. He was preceded in death by Ramona, his wife of 79 years; by his son Ronnie Rex, who died at birth; and by his son Max, who died from complications from heart surgery. His daughters, Gene Littlejohns and Jacqueline Trickel; his sons, Ted and Derryl; and ten grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren, are saddened at his passing. He was a loving and gentle man and a great athlete. He was known throughout the panhandle of Texas as"Smokey Harris" because of his steaming fastball. He was instrumental in establishing baseball in the Farmington area when managing the Farmington Town team in the late 40's and 50's and helped with Farmington's first High School team in 1950 and in the early days of Connie Mac. He loved to bowl, to play pool and the game of golf, played well into his 90's and helped to get Pinon Hills Golf Course established. After serving in the US Navy in WWII he owned several businesses in the Cuba, NM area and then retired from the BIA at Shiprock, NM in 1974. He was a Master Mason for more than 50 years and a Deacon in The First Baptist Church in Farmington. He loved his family and all people and was most proud of his service in the Navy, his Masonic Lodge and being a Deacon in the Church. He will be missed. Viewing will be from 5:00-8:00pm on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Cope Memorial Chapel, 404 W. Arrington, in Farmington. Funeral service will be at 10:00 am on Friday, February 3, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Farmington, 511 W. Arrington, with Pastor Keith Berryman officiating. The interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 6917 E. Main St., in Farmington. Pallbearers are Gary Harris, Joel Harris, Mike Evans, D.A. Evans, Brian Trickel, and Steven Bickford. HERRERA -- FATHER EDWARD "ED" Age 59, went to sleep in Christ with his family by his side in El Paso, Texas on Saturday, January 28, 2012. He was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on January 27, 1953 to Gavino and Ramona Chavez Herrera. Father Ed was raised as a devout Catholic and was an active member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Albuquerque. As a child, he would "baptize" his sisters' dolls and provide "funerals" for all the neighborhood animals. At the age of 18 he began his ten years journey of preparation for the priesthood. He first studied for the Archdiocese of Santa Fe and in 1986 moved to the Diocese of Las Cruces. After his studies at Mount Angel Seminary in Oregon, he served as deacon at Holy Cross Church in Las Cruces. He was ordained a priest on June 29, 1991 and served as a Parochial Vicar at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary from June 1991 until January 1992 when he was assigned as Associate Pastor to San Martin de Porres Church in Sunland Park. On April 1 of that year, he was elevated to Pastor and served at San Martin de Porres until 2011 when he resigned for health reasons. Father Ed learned Spanish at San Miguel de Allende, Mexico where he gained fluency in the language. Survivors include his parents, Gavino and Ramona Herrera; two sisters, Mary Ellen Herrera and Lydia Duran; a brother, Ron Herrera and wife Audrey; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and his devoted parishioners. Visitation for Father Ed will begin at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, February 2, 2012 in the San Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 1885 McNutt Road in Sunland Park. The Vigil Mass will be celebrated that evening at 6:00 p.m. followed by the Prayer Vigil. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11::00 a.m. Friday, February 3, 2012 in Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, 1240 S. Espina in Las Cruces with Bishop Ricardo Ramirez officiating. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, 100 N. Espina where he will be laid to rest. Serving as casket bearers will be Andres Duran, Joshua Duran, Donnie Herrera and Clergy of the Diocese of Las Cruces. LEVY -- WALBERT G. "TURK" Age 87 was called home on January 27. He was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana on November 30, 1924. After a grammar school Italian class he began a lifelong passion for studying foreign languages. In 1942 he began his studies at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and was a member of the R.O.T.C. During WWII he enlisted in The US Navy and after basic training became a 1st Lieutenant. He trained for a time to become a Naval Aviator and then decided to become a Naval Intelligence Officer. He was sent to the Japanese Language School in Stillwater, OK and became fluent in the language in the matter of a few months. After WWII he became a Naval Reserve and moved to Korea to work as a civil servant. While there, he learned to speak several East Asian languages and dialects. He returned to the States in the late '40s and resumed his education. He graduated from LSU in 1951 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. In 1952 he began a 45 year career with Sandia National Laboratories, retiring in 1997. During the 1960's he became heavily involved in Democratic Party politics. In 1966 he won his party's primary for his district's State Senate seat, but was defeated in the general election. The defeat stopped his political aspirations, but not his commitment towards Democratic Party causes. After his retirement he reveled in being one of UNM's oldest language students. While at UNM he studied; Russian, Chinese and Arabic. He traveled separately to both Russia and East Asia. A series of strokes beginning in 2006 ended his dream of returning to East Asia to teach the English language. He said he could carry on a pleasant conversation in these languages as well as French, Spanish and Italian. Over the years he had been a member of Queen of Heaven, St. Bernadette's and St. Thomas Aquinas Newman Center Catholic communities. He is survived by son, W. Gregory Jr. and wife, Kim; grandchildren, Darlene, Kyle, Gregory and Karroll Ann of Oklahoma City; daughter, Marie Levy Ryan and husband, Tom; grandchildren, Shannon, Cary, Patrick and Keenan of Albuquerque; son, Matthew and wife, Meg; grandchildren, Anthony, Dominick and Joseph of Albuquerque; five great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Edward LaBruyere; a nephew and three nieces and their families from Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Natasha Katherine and former wife, Karroll Jones Levy within a week span in 1998. A Rosary will be held Saturday, February 4th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Newman Center, 1815 Las Lomas Rd. NE, 87106.
