DEER -- MARX J. JR. Age 72, passed away Friday, January 27, 2012. Marx proudly served in the US Air Force, KAFB; he retired from AFD after 23 years, umpired for Little League for over 40 years, also for the World Series Little League and volunteered with St. Vincent de Paul. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Adam Deer. Marx is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Victoria; sons, John Marx Deer., Michael Anthony Deer, Jimmy Deer and William Bryan "Billy" Deer; grandchildren, Nicole Lassiter, Eric Deer, Matthew Deer, Sarah Deer, Kayla Deer, Amanda Deer; great-grandchildren, Skyler, Zachary, Jazmine; sisters, Jackie Deer and Janice Henderson along with many other family and friends. DI RITO -- JOHN PETER Age 82, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2012. He was born June 1, 1929 in West New York, NJ. He lived in North Bergen, Union City and Toms River, New Jersey area until 1978 when he moved to Rio Rancho. He was a resident of Rio Rancho until moving to Littleton, CO in August 2010. He was preceded in death by his high school sweetheart, Dee, of 53 years, who passed away March 3, 2006; his daughter, Linda Marie Di Rito, who passed away October 3, 2009. He is survived by his son, Thomas J. Di Rito and wife Diana of Highlands Ranch, CO; three grandchildren, Christopher Di Rito and wife Jacque, Lisa Kjeseth and husband Casey, Laura Di Rito, all of Highlands Ranch, CO; two great-grandchildren, Dominik Di Rito and Gavin Di Rito, both of Highlands Ranch, CO. He was a member of the Memorial High School band, where he met his future wife, Matilda "Dee" Hippeli. He served in the 5th Air Force during the Korean War and was honorably discharged attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Before retiring, he was a draftsman for several civil engineering firms both in New Jersey and in New Mexico. John owned a restaurant in Rio Rancho (The Spot) and later worked for Daniels Family Funeral Services in Rio Rancho. He was a member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, The American Legion Post 118 in Rio Rancho, the Rio Rancho Italian American Club and was past Exalted Ruler of the Rio Rancho Elks Lodge 2500. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm, with a recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 pm, Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Daniels Family Funeral Services, Sara Road Chapel, 4310 Sara Road SE, Rio Rancho, NM. FANNING -- JAMES J. (JIM) January 14, 1907 - January 28, 2012 Wow 105! Jim was born in Union City (formerly known as West Hoboken), New Jersey to Mary Murphy Fanning and Patrick Fanning, Irish immigrants from County Monaghan, Ireland. Jim was the fifth of seven children. He had one brother, John Fanning and five sisters, Katherine (Katie) Mulligan, Helen Corcoran, Elizabeth (Lilly) McLaughlin, Mary Markey and Virginia Tobin. Jim attended St. Michaels Grade School then went on to Holy Cross Prep School. Jim also attended the Minor Seminary in Dunkirk, New York. After finishing school, Jim worked on Wall Street and was there during the big crash of 1929 (he said he didn't cause it). In 1933, after his father's death, Jim left Wall Street and took over the family bus business in Hudson County, NJ which ran to New York City, NY. Jim married Elizabeth Blackadder Fanning (Bess) in 1934 and the family started to grow, eight children in all. Jim became an iron worker in New Jersey. In June 1951 the family moved to Albuquerque. Jim continued Iron Working in Albuquerque and later became the union's business agent. Later the U.S. Department of Labor appointed him Director of the Outreach Program for the State of New Mexico, in which capacity Jim spoke to minority groups to encourage them to enter the building trades. After the death of Bess, Jim met and married Marion Steed and had a happy 18 years. Marion passed away in November 2002. Jim continued his life journey, met and had a 2 1/2 yearlong marriage to Jean Moffet until her death. Preceding Jim in death were his wife, Elizabeth Fanning (Bess); children, Mary Jane Fanning, Thomas A Fanning, Capt. Martin V. Fanning, Patricia A. Wessel; second wife, Marion Fanning; and third wife, Jean Moffet. Jim's remaining children are, James J. Fanning, Jr. of Albuquerque, John Mark Fanning and wife, Emilie of Greensboro, NC, Eileen Grube of Phoenix, AZ, Elizabeth DeRochie of Albuquerque. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. There will be a Rosary 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at French Lomas Chapel. GILLIA -- ROY EDWARD Age 76, a resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, January 30, 2012. He is survived by wife, Gay F. Gillia of Albuquerque, NM; four daughters, Ruth Gillia, Mary Saula and husband, Phil, Beth Brown and husband, Jeff, and Kathryn Gillia. Three sons, Charles Gillia, Cary Gillia and Richard Gillia. Roy is also survived by nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Lee Gillia. Mr. Gillia was preceded in death by his father, Lee Roy Gillia; mother, Louise Gillia; and one son, John Gillia. Roy graduated from Notre Dame in South Bend, ID in 1955. He ran for US Congress in El Paso, TX and had an opportunity to speak with President Ronald Reagan. While living in El Paso he was in charge of fund raising for the United Way and was also President of the El Paso Chamber of Commerce. While Roy worked with KMPG as partner, Roy was involved in many civic groups, including Junior Achievement where he met his wife, Gay Gillia. Roy was an avid sports fan, enjoyed playing golf and watching football. Roy had a real zest for living, was vibrant and enjoyed life to the fullest. Services will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2012, 10:00 a.m. at French Mortuary Lomas Reception Hall, with a reception to follow. GUZMAN -- RUBEN 1959-2012 Age 52, a resident of Belen, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2012. He was a member of The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers 791. Ruben was preceded in death by his father, Joe Guzman; brothers, Arthur Guzman, and Richard Guzman. He is survived by his mother, Brigida Guzman of Rio Rancho; wife, Sandra Guzman; sons, David Torrez and wife Kristin, and Leroy Torrez and wife Josette and son Michael Guzman; sisters, Linda Molina, Becky Herrera, Mercy Gonzales, and Lorraine Garcia; ten grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends at Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel on Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Rosary. KOZIKOWSKI -- JANUSZ Artist Janusz Kozikowski passed away 11/11/11 in his Albuquerque home. Janusz was born in Warsaw Poland in 1939 weeks before the Nazi invasion. His father, Witold Kozikowski, an actor who used the stage name Witold Conti, joined the Polish resistance. Janusz's mother with her newborn son fled to Italy to survive the war with friends. One of their protectors was Janusz's godfather, the automotive genius, Enzo Ferrari. At the end of the war, Janusz's mother learned of the death of her husband. Shortly thereafter she married an American soldier, Robert Osthoff and moved to Colorado and later, Sante Fe. The family moved to Albuquerque and Janusz attended the University of New Mexico. He expressed his artistic aesthetic through painting, sculpture, tapestry, writing plays, dance, poetry and song. Janusz and Nancy Hebenstreit married and had four children. Janusz is survived by ex-wife, Nancy Kozikowski; sons, Anton Kozikowski and David Kozikowski; daughters, Jessica Kozikowski Sands and Lucy Kozikowski; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Diana. Janusz and Nancy collaborated as tapestry artists for 25 years, raising weaving design to fine art contemporary aesthetics. Many artists trained in their Medanales, New Mexico Studio known for their nuanced pictorial compositions in tapestry. Janusz's art is in many private and public collections. MCINTYRE -- RUTH E. Age 95, a resident of Albuquerque since 1928, died Sunday, January 29, 2012. She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn R. Joule, Mary Ellen Weber, and Maggie A. Ortega; grandchildren, Corey Joule, Kristin Brownlee, Kelly Weber, Paul Weber, and David Ortega; great-grandchildren, Mia Isabel Weber, Raziel De La Rosa - Weber, and Dominic Ortega; brothers-in-law, David McIntyre and wife, Jean, and Craig McIntyre and wife, Tommie; and sister-in-law, Mary Lee McIntyre; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. McIntyre was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. McIntyre; grandson, Kevin Joule; parents Clint and Blanche E. Gray; and brother, Roger Gray. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church since 1949. Ruth earned her PhD in Family Love. She will be greatly missed. MCMANIS -- SYLVIA GRIEGO Age 95, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, January 29, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. Sylvia was a lifetime resident of New Mexico, born in 1916 the only child of Felipe and Ramona Griego. Sylvia is survived by six children, Phillip, Joyce, Marie, Bernice, Hazel, Kenneth and wife, Sharon. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 35 great-great-grandchildren. Sylvia was preceded in death by one son, Bobby McManis and her parents. Sylvia found joy in doing volunteer work in the Foster Grandparent program and in dancing. Sylvia was a dedicated loving Mother and devout Catholic. A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 7:00pm at French - University Chapel. MYSZKIER -- ARNOLD Age 88, entered God's eternal care on Thursday, January 27, 2012, joining his wife Dorothy and other beloved family members who have gone before him. Arnold is survived by his son, William; daughters, Marie and Lynne and her husband, Paul Spencer; and grandchildren, Joseph and Amelia. Arnold was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 1, 1923 to Anthony and Wanda Myszkier. He was a loving father and grandfather who will be missed by all who knew him.
