PEARCH, PATRICIA JEHLE SCHNEIDER age 88, died on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Patty was born in Blackwell, Oklahoma, on December 15, 1923 to Helen and Francis Jehle. Her father's business moved her family to Wichita, Kansas and she frequently summered with her mother in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Upon earning her BA from the University of Oklahoma, she was admitted to the academic honor society of Phi Beta Kappa. Patty married Robert Schneider in 1949 and they took up residence in Santa Fe in 1950 where she raised six children. Their marriage ended in divorce, and in 1974 she was remarried to Colonel Dean Pearch (retired). After living in Santa Fe for a number of years, Patty and Dean spent over a decade sailing their boat throughout the Leeward and Windward Islands of the Caribbean, after which they maintained a residence in Puerto Rico. They later moved to Shell Knob, Missouri, where Dean passed away. In 2006, Patty moved back to Albuquerque New Mexico, and lived there until her death. Patty was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Francis Jehle and her husband, Dean Pearch. She is survived by her sister, Gretchen Buzzi of Wichita, KS and a brother, Donald Jehle, of Salida, CO. She is also survived by her six children and their families: Gary and his wife, Patti, of Southlake, TX, and their three children, Annie (Brian) and their children, Sutton, Saylor and John Parker, Katherine (David) and Caroline (Steve); Marianne Andro of Mesa, AZ, and her two children, Amy and Sarah (Brooks) and her daughter Taylor; Gretchen Sehler and her husband Marc of Steamboat Springs, CO; Emily and her husband, Tom Wiard, of Montrose, CO and their children, Lindsay and Eric; Mark and his wife, Anne, of Rio Rancho, NM and their children, Kimberly and Katie; and Maggie Ives and her husband, Steven, of Pagosa Springs, CO. Patty was grateful for the many years she lived in Santa Fe. She marveled at the beauty of the high plains tundra which ended at the base of the Sangre de Christo Mountains, and was charmed by the unique art and architecture of "the city different." She was constantly amused and entertained by the eccentric and sometimes quirky personalities she encountered in Santa Fe. Patty, was involved in a number of civic organizations, including the Santa Fe Garden Club, and was a member of the St. Francis Cathedral Parish. She enjoyed a wide circle of friends and played a mean hand of bridge. She embraced adventure and treasured the time she spent sailing in the islands with Dean. She loved to hear and tell funny stories, as well as share good humor with her friends and family. Even as she was overcome by Alzheimer's, she continued to smile and laugh often. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 12 from 4:00pm to 6:30pm at the La Terraza Room in the La Fonda Hotel. There will be a service to celebrate Patty's life and a reception will immediately follow the service. Please visit Patty's online guestbook at www.Reflectionoflife.com. SHUSTER, SANDRA ELEENE Passed away in her sleep on Sunday, September 30, 2012. Sandy was a graduate of Hobbs High School who came to Albuquerque to study literature at the University of New Mexico. While enrolled there, she met and married Don B. Shuster, whose naval service took them to Pensacola, then to Guam, and later to Virginia Beach, Spain, England and (less glamorously) to Lubbock, Texas. Their world travels took them to three continents, filling them with stories that continue to echo through Sandy's house after her death. Don was frequently deployed for long stretches of time, a hardship that Sandy bore with grace. When Don retired from the Navy after 20 years of service, they returned home with their three children to Albuquerque. Sandy was a devoted mother to Kate, Will and Matthew Shuster. Her husband Don passed away in 1998 to great sadness in the family. Sandy worked hard to keep her family together, lighting luminarias every Christmas and keeping everyone entertained with her notoriously wicked sense of humor and her endless curiosity about current events. Those who knew her found her to be a true, loyal, lifetime friend. Sandy was a voracious reader with a lifelong love of learning who came to know the library workers on a first-name basis and whose retirement seemed powered by histories and mysteries. She was known for her interest in eccentric hats. She is survived by her mother, Catherine Dulaney; her brother, Jack Dulaney; her daughter, Kate Shuster; her sons, Will Shuster and Matthew Shuster; her son-in-law, Stephen Stetson; her brothers-in-law, Mark Shuster, Tom Shuster, and Paul Shuster; her nieces, Grace, Kathleen and Jessica; and her nephews, Ben, Jon, Robert and Sam. She will be interred next to her husband Don at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Thursday, October 11th at 11:15 AM. The family requests that donations in Sandy's honor support her beloved San Pedro Library. Checks should be made out to Friends of the Public Library and specify that the donation is for the San Pedro Library. They can be mailed to P.O. Box 26657, Albuquerque, NM, 87125.
