CHAVEZ -- ALFONSO "AL" Age 83, went home to be with our Lord and Savior Friday, August 10, 2012. He was born in Santa Rosa, NM to Carlos and Maria. Al loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers George and Charlie Chavez. FENSTERMACHER -- MELISSA A. 8/23/71-8/13/12 Missy, a lifetime resident of Albuquerque passed away suddenly on August 13, 2012 following a road accident. Beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, she was preceded in death by her father Genaro "Henry" Jaramillo and beloved sister Marie Antoinette "Toni" Benbow. Melissa leaves to mourn her large family; she is survived by her mother Priscilla Jaramillo; sons Elias Joseph and Derick Lee Fenstermacher; brothers Mark Jaramillo of Durango and Marty (children Angela, Anthony and Lila) of ABQ; Uncle Louis and Aunt Dolores Cordova of Gallup, Aunt RoseMary and Uncle Ernie Stapleton of ABQ; niece April Guillaume (partner Chris and daughter Maggie) of Minneapolis; nephew Joseph Sonny Benbow (Melanie and son Charlie) of Tijeras; brother-in-Law Joe Benbow of Sedillo; and many more loving relatives. Missy enjoyed a wonderful 12 year career as a Nurse Tech, bringing babies into the world at Lovelace Women's Hospital amongst her co-workers she loved like family. Recently, Missy spent a year planning last month's week-long trip to a Colorado Lake Cabin with twelve family members. 10 days shy of her 41st birthday is too soon to say good-bye. She was an organ donor, her last gift to five lives. Melissa was a lifetime member of the Catholic Church. FORRESTER -- RANDY Age 65, of Santa Fe, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2012. Randy was a long-time resident of Santa Fe, having moved to New Mexico after falling in love with the area on a college road trip. He was known throughout New Mexico as an accomplished dancer and graced the dance floor to the very end. Randy was also a Vietnam veteran, national Scrabble champion, writer, and lover of culinary delights. He was active in the Arts, enjoying many years of tail-gating parties at the Santa Fe Opera. Randy is survived by his brothers, Dave Forrester of Reston, VA, Terry Forrester of Mentone, CA, and Rick Forrester of Maineville, OH; as well as his sister Ginny McKee of Kula, HI. FRANKLIN -- MARTHA JOANNE Age 85, of Corrales, NM passed away Tuesday, August 14, 2012 after a prolonged illness. She was born on June 17, 1927 in Pueblo CO. She was preceded by her parents, Elsie and Richard Biffle; brother, Richard L. Biffle; sister, Thelma Brooks; daughter, Joanne Marie Franklin; son, John Rex Franklin, II. She is survived by her husband, Julian Rex Franklin; daughter, Mary Ellen Underwood, granddaughters, Julianne Marie Ogilvie and Joanne Rhea Ogilvie; grandson, Justin Ray Franklin. JoAnne was a teacher who loved teaching the second and third grade children. She began her teaching career at Dulce, NM at the Bureau of Indian Affairs Boarding school. Following that she was Principal-Teacher at Elk Silver day school on the Mescalaero Reservation. At Shiprock, NM she taught fourth grade at the Shiprock BIA Boarding School. She followed her husband to Roswell, NM and then to Crownpoint, NM. While at Crownpoint she taught at several outlying day schools. After the family moved to Gallup, NM she taught as a Reading Specialist at Gallup Public schools, Cathedral Elementary School and at several of the outlying Gallup McKinley Public Schools. When her husband was reassigned to Albuquerque she taught at the Santo Domingo school until she retired. JoAnne was active in civic affairs serving as a Girl Scout leader, a member of the Centennial Commission in Gallup and as Secretary of the Gallup Country Club. She was a long time member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas both in Gallup and Corrales where she served as Regent. She was a member of the XI Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, International Honorary Society of Women Educators, where she served as Chapter President and later as NM State President. She was a member of San Ysidro Roman Catholic Church in Corrales, NM. A Viewing will be held at 10:00 am, with the Rosary being recited at 10:30 am following with a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at San Ysidro Catholic Church, Corrales, NM. HENRY -- GWINN "BUB" Passed away at home on Monday, August 13, 2012. Born in Columbia, MO on January 8, 1928 to Gwinn and Amy Henry. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dona; five sons, Patrick and wife, Gail, Matt and wife, Lisa, Mark, Tim and wife, Barbara, Roben and wife, Karen; eight grandchildren, Shelly, Brandon, Shannon, Gwinn, Kenny, Kurt, Kyle and Roope; seven great-grandchildren; brother-in-law and wife, John and Nadene Plath; and three nieces. Bub was an outstanding athlete at Albuquerque High School, graduating in 1946. HINDI -- FICEL Age 72, born and raised in Duran, NM, passed away August 9, 2012. He is survived by his wife Patricia, who was the love of his life; his siblings Moneer, Baheej (Martha), Fareeza, Azeez, Lila; his sister-in-law Jody; step-children Sean (Lisa) and Tori Crain; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Rasmie and William Hindi, who emigrated from Zahle, Lebanon; his siblings Fuad, Moneer, Basheer, Monira (John Green); and his brother-in-law Jack Belcher. After graduation from Vaughn High School, Ficel moved to Albuquerque. He retired from AT&T. He pursued his passion for sprint car racing at Speedway Park and Raceway in the 60's and early 70's. His enthusiasm for car racing (Dirt Track, Indy, NASCAR) never ebbed. Friends may visit from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 16th at French Mortuary at 10500 Lomas NE (Eubank). MCLAIN -- HELEN Age 84, a resident of Albuquerque and formerly of Gallup, went to the loving arms of her heavenly family on Monday, August 13, 2012. She is survived by her children, Bobbie Allen of Albuquerque, and Jack R Shepherd and wife, Susan of Glendale, AZ and Charles Shepherd and wife, Dorothy of Medford, OR; step-sons, Tim McLain and wife, Kathy, and Steve McLain and wife, Neva; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews whom she was very close to; and many other relatives and friends. Helen was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Shepherd of 32 years and Ben McLain of 28 years; parents, Francis Jack and Stella Seward; and siblings, William Seward, Lynn Seward, and Francis Genitski. She was born in 1928 in San Marcial, NM and graduated from Gallup High School, Class of 1946. Helen loved bowling, canasta, gardening and was very active in TOPS in Albuquerque. She had a bubbly sense of humor and just loved people. Helen was very devoted to her family. She loved the Cubs and the Diamondbacks. MERRITT -- MELVIN L. age 90, passed away on August 10, 2012 after a long struggle with Parkinson's. Mel was born in 1921 in Juneau, Alaska to Melvin L. Merritt and Nellie Isabella Merritt. A loving husband, Mel married Thelma Dinwiddie in 1949 in Pasadena, California. He received his Ph.D. (cum laude) in Physics at California Institute of Technology in 1950. He moved to Albuquerque and worked as a physicist at Sandia National Laboratories until his retirement in 1988. During his career he worked in nuclear science and was an author and editor of a book on the environment of Amchitka Island, Alaska. He was a Fellow in Sigma Xi and a member of the American Physical Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Planetary Society. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Thelma; his children, Mel Merritt III and wife Cherryl, Audrey Marlar and husband Richard, Linda Bockoven, and Jeannine Maier and husband Don; his sister Alice Petterson; his sisters-in-law Ruby Merritt and Audrey Coffman and husband Sam; his brother-in-law Hal Dinwiddie; his thirteen grandchildren, Courtney, Tristan, Francesca, Kimberly, Alison, Claire, David, Eric, Scott, Andrew, John, Ryan, and Nonie; his four great-grandchildren, Elijah, Dylan, Lelia, and David; and his many loving nieces and nephews. Mel was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Morris Merritt. Mel was a member of First Congregational Church for over 60 years. He was an Eagle Scout; later a Scout Master. He was active in the Albuquerque Coin Club, and Science Fiction Club. He had a great love of the outdoors, and enjoyed to hike and camp. He also loved traveling the world with his wife. Mel was an incredible man, a brilliant scientist, and beloved of many. He was a pillar of strength, dignity and gentleness. He will be greatly missed. MORA -- IRENE Age 50, has been called home by our Heavenly Father. She was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She loved being an educational assistant at Truman Middle School. Irene was a loving mother to Kayla Mora. She was a devoted daughter to Arthur and Viola Mora. NEUGEBAUER -- MARTHA Martha died peacefully at home on August 13, 2012 at the age of 88. She was born on the family farm in Petersburg, IL on January 6, 1924 to Tom and Leta Rogers. She graduated from Petersburg Harris high school and went on at age 16 to Blackburn College. She met her husband of 60 years, Gene Neugebauer, a naval officer, while working in Chicago. After the war, they moved to El Paso, TX and began their family. The Oil business took them to Houston, TX where they raised their family. They retired in Albuquerque, NM to be near their children and grandchildren. Martha was a generous giver to many charities and was a Tocqueville donor to United Way. She enjoyed being active in Sandia Presbyterian Church, Cosmopolitan, various bridge groups, and walking with her friends. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Leta Rogers; her brothers, Robert and Harold Rogers; and her husband, Gene Neugebauer. She is survived by her children, Paula (Doug) Speegle and Roger Neugebauer; grandchildren, Jennifer (Kent) Messer of Dallas, Eric Speegle of Albuquerque, Nick (Jamie) Speegle of Dallas, Victor Neugebauer and Elizabeth Neugebauer of Amarillo, TX. She has four great-grandsons, Coleson, Case and Crews Messer, and Carter Speegle. Martha was a very compassionate person, who will be remembered by the love she had for her family, friends and neighbors. NICHOLS -- LOIS E. CAMPBELL Age 89, a long-time resident of Belen, passed away on May 25, 2012 at her home in Pupukea, Hawaii. Lois was born and grew up in Belen where she lived for 82 years. She was a well-known member of the community, a member of the First United Methodist Church of Belen for many years, a member of the Order of Eastern Star Jessamine Chapter #45 and Past-Matron's Club, and attended North Shore Christian Fellowship in Haleiwa, Hawaii. Lois and her husband, Nick were enthusiastic members of the Poco Quatros Model A Ford Club and the Tumbleweed V8 Club, and enjoyed many fun-filled travels with their close-knit group of like-minded friends. Lois and her sister Joyce were known for their lovely voices and were regularly called on to sing for weddings, funerals and other special occasions, for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Nick. She is survived by her daughters Tharan Schmidt and husband Virgil of Wichita, Kansas, Pam Steinberg and husband Steve of Monument, Colorado, Penny King and husband Bob of Pupukea, Hawaii; sons Pat Nichols and wife Robyn of Salamander Bay, New South Wales, Australia, Pete Nichols and wife Carrie of Kihei, Maui, Hawaii; grandchildren Marty Ternes, Michelle Hawk, Cindy Perez, Robin Sneary, Kathy Reynoldson, David Ternes, Nicole Ellis, Jennifer Hefty, Scott Steinberg, Donovan Steinberg, Jackson King, Jillian King, Jarin Williamson, Jesse King, Kearney Nichols, Zack Nichols, Naphtali Cope, Issachar Nichols and Manasseh Nichols; 16 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. Lois was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, aunt and friend, always ready and willing to tackle whatever life threw at her with enthusiasm and a smile. RODARTE -- JOYCE A. After a long and courageous battle with breast cancer, Joyce A. Rodarte went to be with our Lord on Sunday, August 12th. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Evelyn Beltz. She is survived by her husband of 45 years Edward Rodarte; daughters: Michelle and Tim Payne, Lisa Rodarte, and Kim and Jon Wolf; brothers: Ed and Janet Beltz, John Beltz; sisters: Sharon and Pat Tuite, Elaina Sims; four grandchildren: Tishell, Mikaela, Justin, Michael; and many relatives, extended family and friends. Her loves included caring for and playing with her grandchildren, motorcycle riding, traveling, and her famous Elvis Presley collection. TIANO -- ANTHONY "TONY" Age 71, a local producer of National television shows, will be remembered during a memorial service on Friday. Tiano died on Sunday, August 12, 2012 of complications from Myelofibrosis. Tiano spent over 40 years running Public Television stations or producing programs for them. He started at KNME while he was attending UNM. He then went to Madison, WI as the Program Manager for their PBS affiliate. In 1976, he moved on to St. Louis where he was the President of the PBS station KETC, and to the same position at KQED in San Francisco from 1978 to 1993. Tiano then founded Santa Fe Productions where he continued producing public television shows until his death. Shows such as the Brain Fitness series showed his passion for science. The shows also raised over $50 million for Public Broadcasting. Reflecting his love of the arts and his native New Mexico, he produced Landscapes of Enchantment for national distribution in 2010, a show featuring several of New Mexico's best landscape artists. Tiano also produced Open Book for 7 years for A&E interviewing a host of authors representing many genres. One of Tiano's favorite projects was the show he did with the famed UCLA basketball coach John Wooden who wrote The Pyramid of Success. Tony embodies each of the characteristics "Coach" wrote of, and continued to live those principles inspiring those around him even through his last difficult days. Tiano was preceded in death by his mother, Marian Santrizos; stepfather, Charlie Santrizos; stepmother, Alice Tiano; and his brother, Joe Tiano. He is survived by his loving wife and life partner, Kat Tiano; sons, Mark (Barbara) Tiano and Steve (Kelly) Tiano; grandchildren, Kaleigh , Spencer, and Anthony; brother, Bob (Bobby)Tiano; and sister-in-law, Nancy Tiano. Tony's nephew Chris (Sue) Tiano enjoyed a special bond and was a constant source of support in the last few years of his life. Tony is also survived by his in-laws, Paul and Dorothy O'Brien, Dan O'Brien, Sean (Liz) O'Brien, Megan (Eloy) De La O, and many incredible nieces and nephews. TORRES -- GILBERT E. SR. Age 83, a life long resident of Albuquerque, NM passed away suddenly at his home on Tuesday, August 7, 2012. He was born in Magdelena, NM on March 31, 1929 to Jose and Catalina Torres. He was preceded in death by his sons, Stanley, Tim and Greg Torres; grandson, Jason Torres; brothers, Joseph and Tony Torres; sisters, Emma Basilla, Mary Torres, Lillie Sarracino and Rita Smith. Gilbert is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Alice Torres; son Gilbert "Gib" Torres Jr.; granddaughter Rhiannon Torres; grandson, Brandon Torres; great-grandchildren, Damian, Lilly Anna, Mariah, Mason, Samantha, and McKenzie; numerous nieces and nephews. Gilbert served proudly and with distinction in the U.S. Army Air Corps and U.S. Air Force in WWII and the Korean War including assignments in Saudi Arabia and Germany from 1945 to 1955. His distinguished 36 year career and stellar government service extended to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Sandia Corporation, U.S. Army 1st Armored Division (7th Corps), Director of Administrative Services for the Special Weapons Center and Chief of Printing and Distribution for Nuclear Surety. Gilbert received numerous awards throughout his military and civilian career. Among them are the American Theatre Ribbon, the WWII Victory Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Meritorious Civilian Service Award, one of the highest civilian honors. Gilbert was a life time member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars (401), Air National Guard Veterans and Knights of Columbus. Gilbert had a lifelong passion for golf and loved creating computer graphic designs and art memorabilia. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him. A Rosary will be recited on Friday, August 17, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. at Risen Savior Catholic Community with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 a.m. also at the Risen Savior.
