He provided her with quality time. On Saturdays he took her to garage sales, to breakfast and then for an ice-cream cone. Sundays he took her to her Senior Citizen dances where she never sat out a dance. He often bought her flowers and candy. He loved to surprise her. She loved to laugh and enjoyed life to its fullest. She enjoyed peace and harmony in her life. Frances was a very classy woman, class personified. She was full of life and in many ways larger than life itself. She was truly a walking miracle. Frances was a God send, the pillar of her family and they were blessed and privileged to have been raised by such a precious, resourceful mother. They were doubly blessed to have had her with them for so long. Frances will be missed and forever revered, cherished and celebrated. Special thanks to those who were always so kind and generous to her and a very special thanks to Chris, for providing his parents with a home they cherished.

GERMAN -- JEAN WESLEY passed away at Seton Medical Center in Austin on August 8, 2012, following a heart attack at home a day earlier. She was born in Austin on June 21, 1931, the daughter of Marvin William and Lorena Pharr Wesley. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert K. German, her daughter, Elizabeth Lynn (Beth) German and her partner Robert ("Kane") Petrowski, of New Mexico, her brother George (G.M.) Wesley of Lockhart and his children Travis Wesley and Christa Wesley. Jean graduated from Austin High School in 1949 and the University of Texas, where she received a BA in government and psychology (1952) and an MA in comparative government (1954). While at UT Jean was active in student government, Orange Jackets, Mortar Board, and Delta Delta Delta sorority. As a child growing up in Austin, Jean spent many weekends with her parents and extended family at the family cabin on Lake Travis, beginning as soon as the family dry cleaning shop, George Wesley Cleaners, closed for the weekend. She was very active in girl scouts, attending camp as a scout and later as a camp counselor. She loved to tell the stories of their camping adventures. Jean also enjoyed tennis, swimming and later, skiing. Jean's childhood, Girl Scout, UT, and sorority friends were lifelong sources of fun, humor and support for her and for her husband and daughter. She held a series of professional positions before her marriage and intermittently throughout her married life, often changing career responsibilities in order to accommodate moves to other cities and other countries necessitated by her husband's career demands as an officer in the US Air Force and a career diplomat in the US Foreign Service. At the time of their marriage, Jean was working as a district representative for the American Cancer Society, covering eleven counties in south Texas. While living in Omaha, NE, she worked first at the University of Omaha and then as a Girl Scout executive in Council Bluffs, Iowa, utilizing experience gained from participating in a national Girl Scout conference in Mexico City while in high school and from serving as a counselor at summer camps. In Washington, DC, in the 1950s Jean worked as an executive in the national Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs. In the 1960s she worked for the Social Science Research Group where her projects included working on the Model Cities Project, interviewing numerous community leaders, including controversial politician Marion Barry at a time of tumultuous riots. In Japan, Germany, Moscow, Oslo, Berlin and Bonn, Jean was a gracious, brilliant and professional Foreign Service wife, attending and hosting numerous diplomatic functions to help further the overseas interests of the United States. She tutored Japanese students in conversational English and welcomed many American students overseas into her home, especially over the holidays. Jean brought a touch of Texas to the USSR, by hosting a real Texas Bar B Que in the Russian countryside before she and Bob left Moscow at the end of their second two-year assignment there, in 1980. Back in Washington, DC, she became Director of the Overseas Briefing Center at the U.S. Foreign Service Institute, where she provided cross cultural training, briefed newly-appointed ambassadors, and established numerous programs to assist families of foreign service officers stationed overseas and those returning to the US, as in the case of the families of the Iran hostages. Jean and Bob retired to her hometown of Austin, Texas in 1990 where she was blessed with the friendships she had made in her youth, with wonderful new friends and neighbors and was able to spend time with her brother, his children and numerous cousins. Jean German was a lifelong supporter of civil rights and social justice. She had a keen interest in local, national and international politics and thoroughly enjoyed reading and discussing current events. She had a sharp wit, a great sense of humor and enjoyed nothing more than a good conversation with friends. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may make gifts in memory of Jean German to Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. - Fund Development, P.O. Box 5046, New York, NY 10087. A Memorial Service will be conducted by The Rev. HUNTER -- NORMAN F. Age 92, a resident of Albuquerque since 1992, died on August 7, 2012. He is survived by his spouse, Patrice Dawson Hunter; and his five children: Norman F. Hunter, Jr., James Shores Hunter, Alice Marie Hunter, Joseph Alexander Hunter and John Dawson Hunter; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved sister, Julia Hunter Flowers. Mr. Hunter was born in Shreveport, Louisiana as the youngest of seven children. He spent a happy childhood there, growing up in a small southern town with kind, loving parents. After attending St. John's High School, he went to Centenary College in Shreveport. He learned to fly single engine cub planes as part of the Civilian Air Corp prior to WWII and also had some flight training during the War. In 1942 he married Mary Alice Shores, also of Shreveport. They had four children before her untimely death in 1961. He went on to serve during the Second World War aboard a Liberty Ship that was part of a top secret air craft repair operation in the Pacific. His ship survived a major typhoon as well as being hunted by Japanese planes and submarines; he had many entertaining stories to tell about his war days. After the war he returned to college, graduated with a degree in Geology and went on to have an extensive career as a Petroleum Landman with Tenneco Oil Co. and Sanchez-O'Brien Oil Co. in Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas. In 1965 he married Patrice Dawson Hunter, with whom he had one child, John. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and golfer and he always took a vigorous daily walk. One of his great adventures was running a large oil and gas operation in Houma, Louisiana, which is southwest of New Orleans, where he had exciting encounters with alligators, swamp boats, Cajuns, and politicians. Mr. Hunter loved his work and always said he would have continued to work forever if his vision had allowed. In his later years, Mr. Hunter suffered from macular degeneration, but compensated so well he was able to continue his walks and also handle his own paperwork, with the aid of magnifying devises and an incredible amount of patience. His memory was excellent and he could recite phone numbers, account numbers, exact dollar amounts, and other details on demand. His sense of humor was original and legendary. In his last few days, while bedridden and extremely weak, plagued with bizarre dreams, he was still able to joke. When his son asked, "Are you in pain," he whispered, "No - I'm in mischief." A Visitation will be held at French - Lomas location on Sunday, August 12, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. with a Graveside Service at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe on Monday, August 13, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. In addition to his four sons, pallbearers will include two of his grandsons, Patrick Hunter and James Hunter, and his good friend Ben Abeyta of Albuquerque. LOVATO -- TYRONE SHAWN IN LOVING MEMORY OF OUR TYRONE SHAWN LOVATO AUGUST 12 1980 - JULY 20 1994 REMEMBER REMEMBER ME WHEN I AM GONE AWAY. GONE FAR AWAY IN TO THE SILENT LAND; WHEN YOU CAN NO MORE HOLD ME BY THE HAND, NOR I HALF TURN TO GO YET TURNING STAY. REMEMBER ME WHEN NO MORE, DAY BY DAY, YOU TELL ME OF OUR FUTURE THAT YOU PLANNED; ONLY REMEMBER ME; YOU UNDERSTAND IT WILL BE LATE TO COUNSEL THEN OR PRAY. YET IF YOU SHOULD FORGET ME FOR AWHILE AND AFTERWARDS REMEMBER, DO NOT GRIEVE; FOR IF THE DARKNESS AND CORRUPTION LEAVE A VESTIGE OF THE THOUGHTS THAT ONCE I HAD, BETTER BY FAR YOU SHOULD FORGET AND SMILE THAN THAT YOU SHOULD REMEMBER AND BE SAD. WE LOVE AND MISS YOU ALWAYS REMEMBERED MOM, BROTHER AND FAMILY

SANCHEZ -- ARLEY AND MELBA An Adelino couple married for 58 years, ended a beautiful love story on this earth by rising together Tuesday on the wings of angels to everlasting life. Arley Sanchez died on Monday, Aug. 6th following complications after suffering a massive stroke, just a week after Melba died on Monday July 30, following a long illness. He died just a day before Melba was ready to depart alone during her scheduled solo funeral service. In the same Tome Catholic Church where they exchanged vows nearly 60 years ago, Arley and Melba on Tuesday were sanctified during a double funeral Mass attended by family and friends. Born Nov. 3, 1932, on a small country ranch in Adelino as part of the Tome Land Grant, and operated by his late parents -- Seferino and Adela Gonzales Sanchez -- Arley was the last surviving of four sons, preceded in death by brothers, John Berman, Robert and Lorenzo Sanchez. He's survived by two sisters, Helen Casillas and Rosalie Sanchez Marquez. Arley and Melba were loving and supportive parents of six surviving children, Aurelio Arley Sanchez, Richard H. Sanchez, Leroy B. Sanchez, Belma Sanchez Griego, Ken H. Sanchez, and Tina Sanchez; as well as by several grandchildren; nieces and nephews. They were preceded in death by two sons, Clarence Sanchez and Paul Michael Sanchez. A railroad telegraph operator and later a clerk during a more than 40-year career with the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway, Sanchez, 79, worked with the railroad until he retired in recent years. Melba was a beautician, a day care operator, and a folk artist creating ceramics, turquoise jewelry and porcelain dolls. When the couple met, they were young and barely out of high school, where Arley had been a star basketball player and she a shy studious student, while also working after school as a nurse's aide caring for the babies at St. Joseph Hospital. At first, Melba wasn't very impressed by Arley, not even by his recent star status as a high school basketball player, and he had a pencil thin mustache that her father would make fun of, though the two men would later become very close. Despite knowing about her initial misgivings about him, Arley was love-struck, describing her to friends and family as beautiful, inside and out, and so he kept up his enthusiastic pursuit, which included he and and a friend serenading a surprised, but pleased Melba., with a mariachi love song at her window. Shortly after they married, Uncle Sam came knocking on the door and they were apart for the only extended time of their marriage when he was stationed overseas in Germany for 18 months. In their nearly 60 years of marriage, they had their ups and downs like any married couple, but throughout their long union, they were in love and virtually inseparable, even unto death.
