CHAVEZ -- MARY LOUISE Age 70, of Moriarty, passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 30, 2012. MaryLouise was born February 24, 1942 in Palma, NM to Max and Nellie Chavez. MaryLouise was a lifelong resident of Moriarty. She married Antonio "Tiger" Chavez on January 23, 1960, together they lovingly had and raised five children. Mary Louise was an active member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Moriarty where she served as Eucharistic Minister and was a member of Our Lady Mt. Carmel Society for many, many years. She loved to pray the Rosary. She also loved to watch her novelas on TV. MaryLouise was preceded in death by her parents, Nellie and Max Chavez; husband, Antonio "Tiger" Chavez; son, Sammy Chavez; in-laws, Cayetano L. and Simona T. Chavez; sister, Peaches Chavez; sister-in-law, Marta and her husband Mike DuGan; brothers-in-law, Cayetano Chavez Jr. and Wade Carson; grandchildren, Tony and Tommy Chavez. She is survived by her brother, Ernest R. GALLOWAY -- JOSEPH E. a long-time Albuquerque resident, age 35, passed away in Denver, Colorado on Saturday, June 30, 2012, while helping someone move. Joseph was born in Albuquerque, NM on May 15, 1977 to Rodney G. and Donna Pate Galloway. He is survived by his brother Benjamin of Albuquerque; sisters, Rachel E. Miranda (Jorge A.) of San Antonio, TX, with children Emilie, Soleil, and Albert; Brenda of Denver; and Sarah of Mesa, AZ. A sister, Alisha, preceded him in death. He also has living uncles and aunts: Cheryl Galloway; Jeff and Lola Galloway; Kent and Renae Galloway; John and Susan Galloway Stacey; Robert and Elaine Pate; Alma John (Jack) and Deon Pate; Maran Carl Pate; and Steven and Alice Pate Nelson. Joseph attended Mark Twain Elementary School, Madison Middle School and Highland High School. He was enrolled in the special education program and graduated with a diploma. He enjoyed working at Smiths as a bagger and as a courtesy clerk at Kirtland Air Force Base Exchange for ten years. For the past three years he had been residing in Denver, Colorado with his sister, Brenda and his cat, Pumpkin. A viewing will be held Friday evening July 6th from 7-9pm at French - University Chapel. The Funeral Service will be Saturday, July 7th at 11am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Chapel at 5709 Haines Ave. NE with a viewing one hour prior. GONZALES -- GWEN MARIE Our loving daughter, sister, fiancee, aunty, niece, cousin and friend, Gwen M. Gonzales, age 47, suddenly passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2012. She is survived by her fiancee, Scott Muhn and son, Jonathan; her parents, Joe B. and Nicki Gonzales; sister, Laura Hernandez and husband, Alfred; brother, J. Anthony "Antz" Gonzales; nieces, Nicole Hernandez and Adrienne Gonzales; nephew, Julian Gonzales; and great-niece, Jaleen Moreno-Hernandez. She is also survived by many loving uncles, aunts, cousins and her many friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents: Josefita and Jose Ortega and Juanita L. and Juan Jose Gonzales. Gwen was born and raised in Santa Fe, NM, graduated from St. Michael's High School in 1983 and more recently a graduate of Central New Mexico Community College. She lived in Albuquerque, NM and was employed with Cutter Aviation. She touched a lot of lives in a many different ways and will be missed dearly. JOHNSON -- JOHN ERIC longtime resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, June 27th at his home after a relatively short battle with melanoma. Eric, as he was known to all who loved him, was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa September 22, 1960 and lived in Iowa, Texas, Wyoming and Brisbane, Queensland, Australia before moving with his family at age 11 to Albuquerque. He attended Annunciation Elementary School, then Eldorado High School, graduating in 1979 where he was a varsity wrestler, track and football player. He was awarded a wrestling scholarship to University of New Mexico where he graduated with a BA in Film/Communications. Eric worked at KOB/NBC as a videographer/photo-journalist for many years. He has worked as a Media Specialist at Central New Mexico Community College (formerly TVI) since 2000. Eric's loves were his daughter, Hannah and music. He was a prolific songwriter and played in many local bands, including Big Sad Guy. Just prior to his diagnosis, the band recorded a double-album, Waiting for the Undular Bores, produced by the Handsome Family. Other bands he played with include Rivet Gang, Evil Roy Slade, the Cufflinks, Mumble, the Gutterleaves, Macho Hall of Fame and on occasion with the Handsome Family. Eric is survived by Hannah, a junior at Sandia Prep; his parents, Robert and Phyllis Johnson of Albuquerque; sisters Cynthia (Oakland, California) and Suzie (Los Angeles, California); brother, Terry (Olympia, Washington); plus many, many friends, uncles, aunts and cousins who will miss him dearly. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 6th at 10:00am at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 12500 Carmel Avenue NE, Alb., NM 87122. JULIAN -- ADDISON "LEE" born July 7, 1946, in Harlingen, Texas, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2012, in Albuquerque after a brief battle against cancer. She is survived by her roommate and best friend, Jan Zerr; her mother, Mary Julian; sister, Margot Julian; and numerous close friends. She was preceded in death by her father Wayne Julian. Lee was a very kind, generous and giving person. Some of Lee's favorite times were spent on her Grandmother's farm in Illinois. In 1964 Lee was recruited by UNM to play for the women's golf team and received her undergraduate degree in Health & Physical Education from UNM and her Master's from Eastern New Mexico University. She taught in an inner-city school in Denver, Colorado for one year and moved back to New Mexico and taught at Taft Middle School for 25 years, inspiring many of her students who still referred to her as "coach". Her community activism began when she raised funds for a grass field and marquee at Taft. After her retirement from teaching she became very involved with the Bel-Air Neighborhood Association gaining expertise with zoning issues. She was constantly on the lookout for illegal dumping, inoperable vehicles, weeds, litter and graffiti. As one neighbor said "She was a champion for all of us." In the early 1990's she worked with the City to organize the first of many large-scale clean-up efforts for the entire Bel-Air Neighborhood. These clean-ups continue to this day and earned her the honorary title of "Commander Garbage". Lee was instrumental in procuring the funds to establish the Bel-Air Miramontes Park and took great pride in seeing it completed. Lee was quite the adventurer. She said you could go anywhere in a white pickup truck and she did! Exploring all of New Mexico, she knew and shared places where few dared to wander. She will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to have known her. An informal gathering to celebrate her life will be held on her 66th birthday Saturday, July 7th, from 8:30 am - 10:00 am at the Bel-Air Miramontes Park at Phoenix and Morningside NE. Come as you are and bring a chair. In her honor, trees will be planted at Bel-Air Miramontes Park at a later date. NICHOLSON -- EMMA DOROTHY MENAH of Abilene, Texas and formerly of Belen, Santa Rosa, Portales NM and San Antonio, Texas passed away June 29, 2012. She was born Emma Dorothy Menah on October 27, 1932 in North Babylon, NY. She graduated from Babylon High School in 1950. Russell Sage College in 1954 and completed a Masters Degree at Hofstra University. A school teacher, Emma taught in West Islip, NY, and she also taught for the Department of Defense Schools in Misawa, Japan, Mildenhall, England and Torrejon, Spain. Emma served her community as a Girl Scout Leader and a member of Opti-Mrs in Belen, NM. She is a post Worthy-Matron and held various other offices in several chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star in New Mexico. She was a member of the United Methodist Church. Furthermore Emma's numerous family members and friends will fondly remember her dry, sarcastic, side splitting sense of humor. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Robert Nicholson, USAF (Ret). Emma is survived by her two daughters, Merry Kotschwar of Tijeras, NM and Lt. Col. Roberta Nicholson USAF of Starkville, MS; grandson, Ty Kotschwar of Albuquerque; and sister Susanna Thomas of Storrs, CT. PEDERSON -- KEITH G. passed away on June 28, 2012. He was preceded in death by his mother, Edith Pederson and father, Theodore Pederson. He is survived by his family which include his wife, Patty Sais-Pederson; son, Scott Pederson, and daughter, Lisa Pederson; brothers, Gary T. Pederson and Charlie Pederson; sisters-in-law Catherine Pederson and Lynne Pederson; niece, Martha Anderson and husband, Neil Anderson; nephews, Timothy Pederson and wife, Deb Pederson; Tedd Pederson and wife, Molly Pederson; many grandnieces and nephews; step-children, Diane Sheehy, Alison Mostert, and Dante Sais; dozens of cousins and former wife, Ruth Pederson. Keith earned his Master of divinity degree in 1969 from Northwestern Lutheran Theological Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. Keith, during his Master of Divinity program in 1968, he served his internship in Yellowstone, Death Valley, and Carlsbad Caverns as an employee of the National Park Service. He organized worship services for visitors with the Christian Ministry in the National Parks. At Carlsbad, he worked as a Park Ranger and gave interpretive talks about bats at dusk by the mouth of the cave when the bats emerged at dusk. He became attracted to the enchanting call of New Mexico and pondered an inspiration that he would like to retire in northern New Mexico one day. He served churches as pastor of Pioneer Lake Lutheran Church in Conover, Wisconsin; Shepherd of the Lakes church in Sayner, Wisconsin; and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Harvey, Michigan. He was called to missionary work in the Netherlands where he learned the Dutch language and preached entirely in Dutch. While he worked for the Dutch Lutheran Church, he established a Lutheran Church, he established a Lutheran Church in a new city, Lelystad, founded in 1967, on the Flevoland polder (reclaimed land) in the Netherlands. In addition, he also served an Evangelical Lutheran Church in Enkhuizen. Following his missionary service in Europe, he returned to the states where he served Grace Lutheran Church in Dodgeville, Wisconsin. He subsequently earned his Doctor of Ministry degree at Luther Northwest Theological Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. Keith retired from the ministry after 23 years of service and made good on his contemplation to return to the Land of Enchantment. He married Patty and settled down to enjoy some garden railroading, barbershop singing, and motorcycling around the Sandia and Manzano mountains as well as trips throughout the Southwest. Keith's bass voice joined in harmony with the New Mexichords Barbershop Chorus and he also sang with the Duke City Sound. He was a garden railroad club member, played the pan flute, loved motorcycle rides and trips to faraway places, especially National Parks in the United States. He is greatly missed by his loving family members, friends, and brothers in barbershop. We remember his strength and courage and ever-present support for anyone in need of a word of encouragement. PETERSON -- LOIS RAE beloved wife, mother and sister is survived by husband DuWayne Peterson; daughters Christina Noriega and Carolyn Duncan; and brother Dean Peterson. Lois was a high school teacher for 27 years teaching Art and English. She was a life long artist receiving many awards and commendations. she was also a member of the New Mexico Artist League. RIVERA -- NINFA passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, June 29, 2012, in Elephant Butte, NM.
