ANDERSEN -- RAYMOND WICK (ANDY) Age 87, passed away June 19, 2012, in Albuquerque, NM. He was born February 18, 1925 in Bingham, UT to Henry J. Wick and Josephine Johnson. He was later adopted by Richard J. Andersen and Jenny Dahl. He grew up in Mantua and Brigham City, UT. Ray served honorably in the Army in WWII and later worked for and retired from the AEC. He was preceded in death by his wife, Van Deen Keel; his parents; and two brothers, Lawrence Wick and Norman Andersen. He leaves behind his children, Kathleen Frentheway, Gilbert, AZ; and Raymond D. Andersen, Jemez Springs, NM; ten grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Paul Wick and Clarence Wick. His gentleness, patience, punctuality, and quirky sense of humor will be missed. He was faithful member of the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Raymond was a true example of "The Greatest Generation." A viewing will be held Sunday, June 24, 2012 at French - Wyoming Chapel from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held in Manassa, CO on June 25, 2012 at 12:00 at LDS church. BERNHARDY -- AGNES Age 89, a longtime resident of Albuquerque passed away on Monday, June 18, 2012. She was born in Prairie View, Kansas, to Ed and Margaret VanKooten; the middle of five children. Agnes earned a Masters of Education degree at University of New Mexico in 1988 after raising her children. She used this degree as a substitute teacher for Albuquerque Public Schools, actively volunteering at her church and tutoring adults. Along with her husband she traveled throughout the United States and abroad. They were avid square dancers, not only dancing with the Levis and Lace Club but other communities as well. Agnes enjoyed playing bridge and was a voracious reader. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Howard and their daughter, Gayle; sister, Bernice Rus; brother, Bruce VanKooten. She is survived by sister, Alma Anema; brother, Paul VanKooten; son, Gary D. Bernhardy and wife, Lin of Darien, CT; daughter, April D. Martinez and husband, Benny of Albuquerque; two grandsons, Eric Martinez; Cody Martinez and fiancee, Martha Beltran; two great-grandchildren, Elijah and Lexia Martinez; many nephews and nieces. BONURA -- THERESA MARY of Rio Rancho, age 65, passed away peacefully May 20, 2012. She was born April 8, 1947. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carlo Bonura; father, John Berta; mother, Mary Berta; sister, Marilyn Sara; and brothers, Paul Berta and Edward Berta. She is survived by her two sons and their families: Michael and Kimberlee and their children, Kyra and Erik, of Corrales, New Mexico; and Carlo and Maria and their daughter, Ella, of Bristol, England. She was a loving mother and an enthusiastic quilter. Her gifts of beautiful quilts to friends and family over the years will be cherished. Visitation will take place Sunday, June 24, 2012, from 3:00pm to 5:00pm at Daniels Family Funeral Services, Rio Rancho. Burial will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. GALLAGHER -- MARY B. Age 87, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2012. Mary is survived by her brother, John (Jack) Rohan. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Rohan and Mary (Sis) O'Neill Rohan; her husband, Joseph J. Gallagher; brothers, Pat, Tom and Tim; and sister, Eileen. Mary was born on January 24, 1925 in Ballyhoneen, Castlegregory, County Kerry, Ireland. She was a longtime member of Risen Savior Roman Catholic Church, Good Shepherd Center, Casa Angelica, Barrett House (Brother Mathias House) and Sisters of the Holy Spirit. GARCIA -- ARTHUR entered eternal life on June 18, 2012, at home, surrounded by his loving family after a year-long struggle with cancer. He was born in Las Cruces, NM on December 1, 1948, to Ben and Viola Camunez Garcia. Art is survived by his wife of 40 years, Evelyn Bell Garcia; his sons and their wives, Benjie and Barbara Leyba Garcia of Albuquerque, NM; and Jacob and Nicole Romo Garcia of Maricopa, AZ. Other survivors include his grandchildren, Santiago, Matias, and Joaquin Garcia of Albuquerque, NM, and Aleah, Mariah, and Jacob, Jr., Garcia of Maricopa, AZ; his father, Ben Garcia of Las Cruces, NM; his sister, Joanne Garcia Skillman and husband Richard "Buzz" of Aiken, SC; his brother, Frederick "Ron" Garcia of Las Cruces, NM; his sister-in-law, Bonnie Brown Garcia of Oak Harbor, WA; his mother-in-law, Joyce Bell of Sun Lakes, AZ; sisters-in-law Marilyn and husband Ernie Garcia, of Sun Lakes, AZ, Carolyn Bell, of Sun Lakes, AZ and Sody and husband Jim Jones of Billings, MT; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren. Art was preceded in death by his mother, Viola Garcia and his brother, Lieutenant Commander, USN, Stephen A. Garcia. Art served in the New Mexico National Guard for twelve years, attaining the rank of Captain. He retired from Los Alamos National Laboratory after thirty-two years of service. Art and Evelyn lived in Santa Fe, NM, during these years where they reared their sons. Since retirement, they have made their home in Albuquerque. Art was a humble man known for his warm smile, his kindness to others, his generous spirit, his strong leadership, his sense of humor, the twinkle in his eye and above all, his love for and dedication to his family. He loved people, and loyalty to those he loved exemplified his strong character. He was a committed family man who loved life, adored his grandchildren, and was the best husband, father, son, brother, and friend anyone could ask for. GIRON -- FLORIAN S. passed away at the age of 86. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Stella Giron. Florian has five children Glenn Giron, Patrick Giron, Jeanette Garcia, Shirley Giron and Karl Giron. He has nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Florian is survived by two brothers Bennie Giron, James Giron; sister, Bessie Jaramillo. After being honorably discharged from the Navy he worked at Sandia Air Force Base as a carpenter. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Florian was the foundation of his family. He loved to laugh, sing and make people smile. Florian will be greatly missed. GRIFFIN -- PHYLLIS JEAN Died on June 1, 2012 at the age of 70 after battling cancer for several months. A memorial service will be held on June 30, 2012 at 9:30am at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 9100 Menaul Blvd, Albuq., NM 87112. Phyllis is survived by her husband Mike (Harris) Griffin; her two children Anna of Richardson, TX and David of Albuquerque; four grandchildren, Anna's son Jonathan (12) and daughter Christiana (10), David's sons Justin (10) and Matthew (6). In addition, she embraced her stepchildren Job and Lisa, and their families. Phyllis was born in Atascadero, CA (near San Luis Obispo) on April 4, 1942 to Marjorie and Henry Tate. There were five children in the family, including Stephen who died in 1959 at the age of 13, and Vicky Tate who died in 2005. her surviving siblings are Nancy Ryan of Bakersfield, CA, Betty Snow of Yucaipa, CA. Surviving family also include cousins, nieces and nephews. Phyllis' early years were lived on a dairy ranch; when she was seven years old, her parents divorced and the family subsequently moved to several locations in California. After marrying her first husband, she lived in Missouri for 20 years, where her children were born and brought up. After the dissolution of that marriage, Phyllis, whose children were now grown, moved back to CA, where she taught high school mathematics for 15 years before retiring in 1999 and moving to Albuq. She became a member of St. Mark's on the Mesa Episcopal Church, where she met Mike and they married in 2002. Mike retired from his job as building manager at St. Marks in 2003. They enjoyed traveling, family and gardening; both became Master Gardeners in 2010. Phyllis was an active member of St. Luke Lutheran Church since she and Mike joined that church in 2005. LUCERO -- PEDRO ALONZO age 85, a resident of Bosque Farms, passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2012. He was a cattle rancher for Leon Williams at the Diamond A Cattle Co. in New Mexico and Nebraska. Pedro retired as a heavy equipment operator at the age of eighty-two from Aztec Grading in 2008. He was preceded in death by his son, Pete Eric; brothers, Herman, Horace, Leondro, Victor and Benjamin and sister, Mela. Pedro is survived by his wife, Ella; brothers, Fred and Julian; sister, Consuelo Meyer; son, Hector and his wife Jeannette; daughters, Kathleen Saavedra and her partner Ray Thomas and Karleen Noriega and her husband Gilbert; fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. MARTIN -- ARLYNN LUCILLE November 6, 1920- June 11, 2012 Age 91, nee LaBundy in Zenda, WI, passed away on Monday, June 11, 2012. Arlynn was a resident of Albuquerque since 1955. She is survived by her children, daughter Mary E. Donato of Albuquerque, daughter Elizabeth C. Newell of Peralta, and son Peter A. Martin of Eagle Creek Oregon; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; two nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by a son, William John, and sisters, Elinor and Eileen. Arlynn had an adventurous spirit and a thirst for knowledge. She was an avid reader and Bridge player, loved nature, animals and especially her dogs. Her last camping trip was at age 90 with her son as they traveled for a visit to his home in Oregon. MORELAND -- WILLIAM "BILL" Went Home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 with his family by his side. "Wild Bill" is survived by his wife of 67 years, "Partner Jean" Anne Gleason Moreland; children, Thomas Moreland (Barbara), Daniel Moreland (Cora), Susie Bowling (Haden), Mark Moreland (Lisa), Richard Moreland (Teresa), Janet Moreland and Paula Heynen (Patrick); grandchildren, Tracy Lee (David), Brian Moreland (Kyle), Shannon and Nicholas Bowling, Miguel and Kristiana Jarquin-Moreland, Andrea and Kara Moreland, and Mikatrin Heynen; and great-grandchildren, Kristen and Kevin Lee. PEREA -- TEOFILO C. JR. "T.C." Former Sandoval County Commissioner and life long Corrales resident died Wednesday, June 20, 2012. He was 78. A major figure in village life in Corrales since the 1960s, he headed the Perea family, which has been one of the community's most influential since the 1700s. Best known in recent years as the genial owner of Perea's Restaurant and Tijuana Bar, he served several terms on the Sandoval County Commission as its chairman. In the 1950s and 60s he managed the Perea dance hall, then owned by his father. It was known throughout the greater Albuquerque area as the spot for lively entertainment. After distinguished service in the Air Force during the Korean War, he married in 1958 and started a family in Corrales while running an auto glass shop in Albuquerque. In his younger days, he farmed in Corrales, herded cattle and baled hay. He took over the family restaurant business in 1968, overseeing several renovations. He was a life-long member of the Corrales Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5432 and its host for many years. He was also active in efforts to incorporate Corrales as a municipality, in elementary school matters and on the Corrales Watershed Board. Survivors include his wife, Stella; daughter Jean Tafoya and her husband Mark; sons Carlos and John Perea and respective wives Tracy and Ana; brother Richard Perea; sisters Victoria Werner and Margaret Cline; and four grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. Services, including a Rosary and Mass are planned for Saturday, June 23, 2012, 10:30 a.m. at San Ysidro Catholic Church in Corrales. He will be interred at the nearby San Ysidro cemetery. Family members request that memorial donations be directed to the San Ysidro Church Building Fund. Special thanks are extended to N.M. Hospice and the UNM Cancer Center. PITTS -- AVELINA Avelina passed away peacefully in the Rio Rancho Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at 4210 Sabana Grande SE, Rio Rancho, NM on Sunday morning, June 17, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband Alejandro Pitts; her son Alex Pitts; her step-daughter Delcida Roach. Avelina is survived by her sons Donald Pitts and wife Virginia and their son Dustin and Don Pitts (from a previous marriage); Arnold Pitts and his daughter Rita; Bobby Pitts his children Marc, Rob, Lexi and Edward; her daughter Maria LaPierre her children Debbie, the late Donnie, Denise and David; her daughter-in-law Jane Pitts and her children Jared and Cara Pitts; the late Alex's sons Dean and Danny; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews. Avelina was 102 years old, born on November 10, 1909. She lived most of her life in Cuba, NM. Avelina was a wonderful cook and an accomplished seamstress. She was a devout Catholic and attended church on a regular basis and continued her faith at the Rio Rancho Nursing Center. Avelina's family extends their gratitude to the medical staff at both the Lovelace Heart Hospital and Lovelace Medical Center in Albuquerque, NM. A special gratitude goes out to the staff at Rio Rancho Nursing Center who became her friends and family over the last four years. The family appreciates the short term care from SolAmor Hospice staff. A Mass will be celebrated in Avelina's honor on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Francis Episcopal Church, Golf Course and 19th Street, Rio Rancho, NM. Vicenta Pena was born to Severo Pablo Pena and Manuelita Pena (Gutierrez) on August 23, 1930 in Manzano, New Mexico. Vicenta's strength allowed her to overcome any obstacle and she now rests in the Lord's Kingdom after a lifetime of service to others. Vicenta will be greatly missed and never forgotten. SHUMATE -- MARK Age 62, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Donna L. Shumate of Albuquerque; daughters, Jenny Shumate and Tina Autry; son, Jason R. Shumate and wife, Laura all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Amber M. Autry, Landon E. Shumate, and Eden J. Shumate; brother, Scott Shumate and wife, Patricia, of Lebanon, MO; father-in-law, Richard H. Rogers of Englewood, CO; and many other family and friends. Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Dorothy Shumate; and his daughter, Katie. He received his Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering from Iowa State University and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Denver. He was president of Shumate Constructors, a company he founded with his partner, Dennis Thompson, and grew to a successful and influential construction company in Albuquerque and the surrounding area. Mark was known as a hardworking man and a wonderful friend of many. He touched the lives of so many people and was deeply loved by everyone who knew him. Mark was a member of Grace Church. Memorial services will be held Monday, June 25, 2012, 3:00 p.m., at Grace Church, 6901 San Antonio Dr. NE, Albuquerque. Cremation has taken place.
