ANDERS -- EARL LEE Age 94, a resident of Albuquerque since 1952, died Saturday, May 19, 2012. She is survived by a nephew, Carl Underwood of Albuquerque; and two nieces, Carol Lynn Astiz of Fort Worth, Texas and Zana Kay Davis of Grandbury, Texas. Mrs. Anders was preceded in death by her husband, Fay Anders; brothers, Carl Lee Underwood Jr, Conan Zane Underwood; and sister-in-law, Margaret Underwood. BAROS -- VICTOR was born on November 15, 1960 in Albuquerque New Mexico. He passed away on Thursday May 17, 2012 in Albuquerque at the age of 51 after a long battle with a rare illness. He was surrounded by his loving family. Victor was born and raised in Albuquerque NM. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S Army. He worked as a correctional officer for The Department of Corrections and then went to work for the YDDC, (Youth Department Detention Center). Victor was preceded in death by his brother, Lonnie Baros; grandmothers, Elsie Cortez, Ann De La O; and grandfather Juan De La O. He is survived by his mother Nestorita Baros; father Leonard; children, Amanda Baros and Victor Baros Jr.; sister, Sonia Baros and companion John Thomas; nieces, Victoria Baros and companion Enrique, Antoinette Baros; nephews, Anthony Baros, Timothy Dow, Dominic Dow and Jonathan Dow; great nieces, Selena, Elena, and Racquel; great nephew, Anthony Dow. He is also survived by a very special uncle Anthony Castillo; numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. Services will be held at San Felipe de Neri Parish, in Old Town Plaza. A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at 7:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday May 24, 2012 at 10:00am. Burial will follow at San Pedro Cemetery in San Pedro, New Mexico. Pallbearers are Timothy Dow, Dominic Dow, Jonathan Dow, Anthony Baros, Tomas Cavalier and Anthony Castillo. BIEBEL -- RUTH MARY Passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 12, 2012, at the VA Hospital in Tucson, Arizona. She was born Ruth Mary Hickory on April 18, 1931, in Waterbury, Vermont. She grew up in Waterbury and graduated from Waterbury High School in 1949. After graduation, she enlisted in the Army and was assigned to the decoding of messages at the Pentagon during the Korean Conflict. She met her future husband, Tony, in Washington, DC, and they were married on August 2, 1952. Ruth was discharged from the Army and began her next career, that of wife and mother to her family. Ruth and Tony moved to Los Alamos in 1968 after Tony left military service. Ruth worked as secretary to the Nurse's Administrator at LAMC and later went on to do volunteer work with the Hospital Auxiliary. She loved to volunteer at her church, Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran. Ruth leaves behind her husband Tony, with whom she would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this August. Her parents, Alfred Joseph Hickory and Ivis Rose Hickory, preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughter Sandra L. Hampton, Sandra's husband James, son John A. Biebel, and five grandchildren: Virginia Powell (Brian), Elizabeth Johnson, Marie Hanley (Chris), Joseph Johnson, and Jasmine Biebel. There are also six great-grandchildren: Dominic, Joseph, Alexis, Cody, Carina, and Michael. All who knew Ruth will miss her greatly. She loved everyone and was loved by everyone. "A mother's heart is a garden of love that is always in bloom." A memorial service will be held at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church on May 25, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Fellowship Fund at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

CASTILLO -- JOSEPH (PHIL) age 67, passed away May 19, 2012, with his family at his side. Phil is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Anna Marie; sons, Lou Castillo, and John Castillo and wife, Sandy; sisters, Connie Lopez and husband, Julian, Lucille Aragon and husband, Fred, Faye Fowler; brothers, Teofilo Castillo, Eloy Castillo and wife, Patsy, and Louie Castillo and wife, Stella; grandchildren, Henry, Jorge, and Damon Castillo. Phil was a member of the Catholic Church, and a Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Vietnam Era. Phil spent nearly thirty years in the Banking business in New Mexico, and served as the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce Chairman of the Board, and the as Chief Operations Officer. Visitation will be from 9:45 a.m. until 10:15 a.m., Thursday, May 24, 2012, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Peralta, NM with a Rosary to follow at 10:15 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Father Donatus Onyeke, presider. A Committal Service is scheduled at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, May 24, 2012 at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. COUGHLIN -- JAMES "JIM" In loving memory we say good-bye to James (Jim) William Coughlin, born February 3, 1926 to Rachel and Thomas Coughlin in Springfield Ill. He passed away on May 20, 2012 at age 86. He is survived by the love of his life, wife, Emily of 53 years; their three children, Tom Coughlin and wife, Jenny, Karen Blagg and husband, Jim and Mavis Gorley and husband, Joe; grandchildren, Megan Coughlin, James and Samantha Gorley. He is also survived by his brother, Paul Coughlin and wife, Shelley; nephews, Ryan, Kyle; and niece, Erin. Jim was a WWII Veteran who served in China. When he got out of the Army he fell in love with and moved to Albuquerque after touring with the Cincinnati Orchestra. He played violin with Ray Gordon and Lawrence Welk. Jim retired from Sandia National Labs in 1989 after 38 years as a technical writer. An accomplished violinist, he competed in the Old Time Fiddle contest in T or C and picked up guitar too. Jim was a long time member of the Moose Lodge and American Legion Post 49. He loved to fish and hike all over NM. Jim and Emily traveled extensively with their daughter Karen and Jim. Besides Jim's family "Foxy", his Springer Spaniel, made him the happiest. Jim's hobbies included making authentic adobes that he used to build a small house in Los Lunas, wood carvings, and watching and reading westerns. Jim was a generous, quiet and loving person. We, his children, have memories of camping, riding bikes, hiking, and being loved by the greatest man in the world. Dad, our hearts are broken right now. MAY -- RUTH W. She died unexpectedly Sunday, May 20, 2012. Ruth, 71, a retired nurse, is survived by her husband of nearly forty years, Tom; son, Paul and wife, Leslie; step-granddaughters, Brittany and Kristi; daughter, Elizabeth Neer; grand-daughter, Hope; brothers, Paul Wiedemann and wife, Betty Ann and Ernest Wiedemann and wife, Nancy of Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ruth enjoyed the camaraderie of her many friends who are avid quilters, readers and crafters. She was serving as State Coordinator of Church Women United at the time of her death. She was very active in St. Timothy's Church for more than 40 years. SHERWOOD -- DARLENE MARILYN Age 76, passed away Friday, May 18, 2012 with her family by her side, at her daughter's home in Gilbert, AZ. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 3257 E. University Dr., Mesa, AZ. A Graveside Service will follow at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. Darlene was born October 7, 1935, in Sherburn, MN to Reinhold and Magdalena Anderst. She was married in 1954 and devoted her life to her husband and five children. They moved their family to Albuquerque, NM in 1963 and finally came to live in the Phoenix Metro area in 1977. Her last few years were spent in the care of her daughter Luanne and grandson Matthew. Darlene was a loving wife, mother, grandma, and great-grandma. She lived her whole life caring for others and always put everyone's needs ahead of hers. She will be remembered always. Darlene is survived by her five children: Pam Elliott, Steven Sherwood, Luanne Hoxie, Debbie Romero, and Greg Sherwood; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. THIEL -- VICTOR Passed comfortably and quietly early Sunday morning. Born in Nampa, Idaho April 13, 1915, as the 6th of 12 children. He grew up on his family dairy farm and graduated from Meridian High school in 1933. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1939 and eventually was stationed at Kirtland Field where he met and married Hester. Following his discharge as a Tsgt in 1945, they settled in Albuquerque. He joined Public Service Company of New Mexico and worked there for 31 years retiring in 1976 as a senior working foreman. He was a proud member of the IBEW for 66 years. During his prime he was an avid bowler, fisherman, hunter, and sportsman. He was preceded in death by his parents, all 11 brothers and sisters and his beloved wife of 54 years. He is survived by his son Keith; granddaughters Kimberly Thiel and Tracie Rainwater; three great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law; and many nieces, nephews and good friends. His ashes will be interred with Hester at the National cemetery in Santa Fe. He will be remembered by all for his broad smile, quick wit, and everlasting friendship to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

WAHNER -- LESTER JESUS passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, after a long illness. Lester was the son of Arthur and Esther Wahner, who preceded him in death. Lester's brother Hermann also preceded him in death. Lester was born in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, the fifth of eight children. Lester is survived by his partner W. Scott Smith; his brothers: Xavier, Jorge, Wayne, Warren, and Ruppert; and his sister Alicia. Lester graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1977. Afterward, he moved frequently from job-to-job until he finally settled in El Paso, Texas, where he worked as an engineer at Phelps Dodge Copper Products. Lester met his partner, Scott, in El Paso, and they eventually settled down in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Lester continued his education by earning an MBA in Business Administration from the College of Santa Fe in 1999, and a Masters Degree in Engineering from the University of New Mexico in 2003. Lester worked as a process engineer at Intel Corporation until he passed away. Lester had a sharp, inquisitive, and witty mind. He loved reading about politics, religion, history, and philosophy. Lester had a good life despite his illness. He enjoyed playing games with family and friends. During his life, Lester was blessed with many friends and family. Visitation to celebrate his life is set for 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2012, in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel at De Vargas Funeral Home & Crematory, 623 N. Railroad Drive, Espanola, New Mexico. Lester will be laid to rest at Guaje Cemetery in Los Alamos, New Mexico, on Saturday, May 26, 2012. ZABST -- HELEN R. Passed away peacefully on April 11, 2012 in Simi Valley, California. She was 92 years old. Helen is survived by her son, Rich; daughter-in-law Aimee; grandson, Kyle; and granddaughter Rachel, all of Simi Valley, California. Helen was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 14, 1920. She married her life-long husband, Dick in 1946 and was married 59 years until Dick's passing in 2005. Helen and Dick retired to Albuquerque in 1976 where they enjoyed the warm climate and New Mexican hospitality. They enjoyed square dancing, site seeing and were active members of First Congregational Church. Helen had many different occupations throughout her life including administrative assistant, pharmacist assistant and volunteer at local elementary schools, but she will mostly be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother.
