APODACA -- LAWANDA "KAY Was born in Bentonville, Arkansas on January 18, 1942 and passed away in Albuquerque, NM on Thursday April 19, 2012, at the age of 70. Kay was a member of Community of Christ Church, employed by the Jerry Rose Studio for many years and various medical facilities, having retired from the medical profession. She will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed sewing and puzzles. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Robert Leach and Theda W. Leach; and sister, Theda (Pete) Leach Castro. Kay is survived by her beloved husband, Gilbert Apodaca of the home; daughter, Simone Byrne and husband John; granddaughter, Cynthia Sarah Byrne; sisters, Delores Andrews, Jane Wilson and husband Ralph; brothers, Jack Moody and wife Karen, John Leach and wife Kay, Robert Leach and wife Betty; as well as numerous loving nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends who love and will miss her. BALLARD -- JOHN G. JR. COL. USAF (RET.) Died peacefully on 18 April 2012. Colonel Ballard was born in Amarillo, TX on 9 March 1928. He attended Amarillo High School and Henry Clay High School in Lexington, KY. He attended the United States Military Academy at West Point and graduated in 1951. He distinguished himself there on the football field and in track. After West Point, he joined the United States Air Force and in 1952 married Ann Thatcher of Amarillo, TX. His Air Force career as a pilot took him to Japan, Nevada, Ohio, New York, California, and New Mexico. He received a Masters degree in industrial engineering from Stanford University in 1962. Two years later he was in Vietnam. From 1964-1965 he served as Commander of Detachment 1 of the Air Commando Squadron. A decorated veteran, his many awards include the Legion of Merit and the Meritorious Service Medal. When the Pentagon called, he reported for duty. While there, he earned another degree from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in 1972. Aerospace contractors sought him out and he helped meld the military with industry. Via Lockheed he made sure the USAF received top quality aircraft. Col. Ballard retired from the USAF in 1978. In New Mexico, he ventured into commercial real estate and also served as a consultant to Ernst and Young. He was a member of the Order of the Daedalions, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, the Sandia Kiwanis Club and the Juniper Hunt Club in Florida. He loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed telling tall tales about Texas; his youth in Amarillo and visits to his grandparent's ranch near Fort Sumner, NM and summer properties in Colorado. He is survived by his daughter Amy of Washington, D.C.; his son John and daughter-in-law Caryn; his son William and his grandson Stanton of Albuquerque. His wife Ann died in January 2002. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the charity of your choice. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at French - Wyoming Chapel. BASILE -- DEBORAH Age 58, a resident of Edgewood, lost her battle with ALS on Sunday, April 22, 2012. She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Basile; son, Michael Basile; mother, Irene Gourlay; sister, Diana Gourlay; brothers, James Gourlay and David Gourlay; ex-husband, Michael Basile. BOAL -- GEORGE LINDLEY Passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 21, 2012 in Albuquerque, NM. He was born to George Albert and Theodora (Thea) Boal, on September 29, 1921 in Newell, South Dakota. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth P. Boal in May 1993 and is survived by his current wife, Anita Faye Boal. The surviving family members consist of George M. and Carolyn Boal, Clovis, NM; Dennis and Cheryl Boal, Albuquerque, NM; Stevan Boal, San Jacinto, CA; and Rhonda Boal, Albuquerque, NM; step-daughters, Georgann Wall, Albuquerque, NM, Gaylynn Hartell, San Juan Capistrano, CA and Jana Ryan, Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren include, Michelle, Sandra, Renee, Benjamin, Caitlin, and Camille; great-grandchildren include Taylor, Hayley, Heather, Marshal, Brandon and Paige. George was drafted into the US Army in 1940 and retired as a Major in 1964. During his military service, he served in WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict. He became the hospital administrator for St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe, and retired in 1982. He returned to Albuquerque to enjoy his retirement years. George's passion in life was baseball, and he was recruited by the Brooklyn Dodgers; however his career was interrupted by WWII. He continued to play baseball and pitched for the Santa Fe Fallstaffers baseball team in the 1950's and was known by his teammates as "The Sarge." He belonged to the Military Officer Association of America (MOAA) and the American Hospital Association. GREENFIELD -- ANN MARIE Was born in Saranac Lake, New York, two days after Christmas, 1928. She was the eldest of five children and only daughter of Elmer and Kathryn Brown. She grew up in Saranac Lake, attended secretarial college downstate and was working in the Washington, D.C. area when she met Harry F. Ware of that city. They married in 1953; together they made homes and circles friends in Washington, Cheverly, MD, Lincoln, NE and Albuquerque. This marriage produced two sons: Daniel and David. In 1994 Ann was widowed but 2004 married Paul Greenfield, a longtime friend, and the two made each other very happy. Ann re-entered the workforce late in life, working as a preparer, then office manager for H&R Block. After retiring from Block, Ann served as a volunteer tax preparer and volunteered at the Lovelace Westside Hospital. Ann traveled many places but loved family, friends and home best of all. Raised in the Presbyterian faith, she later joined the Catholic Church and remained a believer. She died on April 18 after some weeks of declining health. Ann died at home, with her husband near and by a window through which she could see a patch of the New Mexico sky she so loved. Ann is survived by husband, Paul V. Greenfield; brother, James Brown and wife Lois; sons, David Ware and wife, Marlene, Dan Ware and wife, Elizabeth; step-children, Pat and husband, Andrew D. West, Paul V. Greenfield and wife, Rhoda, John Greenfield and wife, Jamey Lathrop, and Alan Greenfield; grandchildren, Danny, Alex, Sarah Marie and Kate; plus a lifetime of friends who will remember her warmly. HALL-DAVIS -- JACQUE CARLENE Age 49, a resident of Moriarty NM, passed away Friday, April 20, 2012. She is survived by her husband, Charles DuWayne Davis; daughters, Sharron Jean Throgmorton and Amanda Christine Robertson; son, Andrew DuWayne Davis; five grandchildren, Bryan Keith Wright, Dakota Ray Robertson, Jayden Mykayla Throgmorton, Samantha Carlene Robertson and Jesse Eugene Throgmorton; sons-in-law, Dana R. Throgmorton and Samuel L. Robertson; brother, Bruce McGrew; and sisters, Sheila McGrew and Barbara Lewis. Jacque was preceded in death by her mother, Sharon Lee McGrew and grandmother, Opal Martin. Jacque was a medical assistant with UNM hospital for two years. She was a wonderful wife, mom, and friend to many. HERNANDEZ -- ALBERT H. Age 87, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Apr. 22nd. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Albert was born on Apr. 24, 1924 in Hondo, New Mexico to Estevan and Miquela Hernandez. He grew up on the family ranch in Hondo with six brothers and seven sisters. Albert worked in the Shipyards in San Pedro, California. After that he was drafted into the U.S. Army during WWII where he fought in Austria and Germany. Upon returning from his service he completed Farm and Ranch School, worked for Southern Pacific Railroad, and after 32 years with the New Mexico State Highway Department, he retired. Albert married Ysabel Ventura on Oct. 4, 1947. They made their home in Carrizozo, New Mexico where they raised their five children. Albert and Ysabel enjoyed a loving and devoted marriage for over 64 years. Albert was preceded in death by his mother, father, five sisters, and three brothers. Surviving Albert is his wife Ysabel; five children Mannie (Mary), Albert (Bennie), Mary, Yolanda (Robert), and Ray (Lori); grandchildren Yvette (Ami), Paul (Sheryl), Lynette (Mark), Justin (Alice), Matthew (Nikole), Lucas and Daniel; great-granddaughters Dakota, Salinda, and Alexis. Albert enjoyed gardening, tending to his animals, watching sports and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. He will be most remembered for his youthful sense of humor and as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Albert will be missed by his family, friends and community. JETTER -- ALICE C. A long-time resident of Albuquerque, and Payson, AZ, passed away early Friday morning, April 20, 2012 at the age of 88. Alice was a deeply religious person who received the Lord's blessing that she would pass quickly and while in good spirits. She was also blessed through recent visits and communications with many of her friends and family that she loved dearly. Alice was born in Chicago, IL on January 28, 1924 shortly after her parents arrived from Sweden. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; and son Mark Jetter. She is survived by her husband of 60 years "Jet"; two daughters, Lisa (Rick) Leal, and Dawn (Kurt) Mourning; two sons, Paul Jetter and Steven (Valerie) Jetter; and ten grandchildren. She is also survived by her close grade school friend, Hazel from Chicago. Alice has touched the hearts of many people and will be greatly missed. O'NEILL -- JAMES BURCHETT DR. Age 76, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2012. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life on Monday, April 30, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at Mesilla Park Community Church in Las Cruces, NM. O'Neill was born on June 11, 1935 to Roy and Louise Burchett in Seiling, OK. O'Neill Burchett is survived by his wife, Charlotte Su Burchett; children, James Burchett, Ruth Mortensen and husband, Dean; grandchildren, Dylan, Tyler, Blake Burchett, Cory and Kyle Mortensen. He is also survived by his brother, Bud Burchett. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Olden Burchett, Betty Hedges, and Bonnie Cox. O'Neill graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Ph.D of Mechanical Engineering in 1965. He then spent 26 years with Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM as well as taught mechanical engineering at several universities, including Arizona State University, University of New Mexico, and New Mexico State University. O'Neill enjoyed teaching Sunday school, skiing, building speakers and other sound equipment, working on cars, and especially enjoyed designing and building his own home in Las Cruces, NM. PERNO -- JOSEPH Age 75, a resident of Corrales, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012 after suffering with ALS for over three years. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Annette C Perno; sons, Patrick Anthony Perno and wife, Norma of San Antonio, TX, Kevin Matthew Perno and wife, Eva of Albuquerque, NM, Jonathan Andrew Perno and life partner Lisa Brown of Corrales, NM; grandchildren, Joseph Jeremiah, Aidan Perno-Brown, and Anissa Tatiana; and many other family and friends. Mr. Perno was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Marie Louise Perno and grandparents, Alfonso and Virginia Colucci Magnifico. He served our country in the United States Army after the Korean Conflict. Joseph was a member of San Ysidro Catholic Church. He was a distinguished employee with Albuquerque Public Schools Administration as a District Coordinator, before retiring after 32 years. Mr. Perno was a graduate with the first APD reserve class volunteering his serves for 10 years. He also was a member of the Albuquerque Kiwanis Club, the Elks Lodge in Las Vegas and Albuquerque and he was instrumental helping implement the North Valley Little League as a volunteer. RISSE -- JOHN T. Age 85, died on Friday, April 20, 2012 after suffering several strokes. He was born August 7, 1926 in Des Moines, IA, of the union of John E. and Marie Dufur Risse. John is survived by his wife of 45 years, Alice Risse; his daughter Karen Lynn and husband Jeffrey of Memphis, TN; one sister, Rosalie Cramer of Minneapolis, MN; three sisters-in-law, Helen Risse of Sioux Falls, SD, Marian Thompson and husband Kenneth of Roswell, NM, Nancy Donnelly and husband Richard of Kansas City, MO; one brother-in-law, Porter Kimmel and wife Kay of Rio Rancho, NM; and 15 nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were two sisters, Mary Dietsch and Elizabeth Dierx; one brother, Robert Risse; and one brother-in-law, Edgar Kimmel. John was a born electrical and mechanical engineer and worked for Sandia National Laboratories. He, and the companies that he worked for, held several patents that were the result of his innovation and creativity. He built his own motor home. John graduated from Iowa State University and was a Navy veteran. He considered his greatest accomplishment to be the care of his first wife for 9 1/2 years as a quadriplegic from polio. His proudest moment, though, was when he witnessed his daughter's graduation from Duke University with a Master's Degree in Environmental Management. John was a loving husband and father. He believed wholeheartedly in the Golden Rule, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." He will be profoundly missed. SANCHEZ -- FLORENCE M. Was born in Albuquerque, NM and passed away on Saturday April 21, 2012 at the age of 72. Florence was preceded in death by her beloved ex-husband, Horacio Sanchez; son, Joseph "Hughie" Sanchez; sisters, Lena, Phyllis, Amalia, Tita; and brother, Braulio. She is survived by her children, Christine Lucero and husband Mike, and Billy Sanchez and wife Lucille; granddaughter, Angela and fiance Alex; great-granddaughters, Delania, Mariah, Mariza, Ali, and Desiree; grandsons, Mike and Marcelino; great-grandson, Michael "PoPo"; brother, Robert Garcia and wife Gloria; sister, Jenny Duran; her special niece, Mary Jane; special aunt, Dorella; as well as many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends who love and will miss her. SANCHEZ -- FRED EUGENE Passed away Saturday, April 21, 2012 at St. John's Re-Hab. He was born June 26, 1944, in Albuquerque, NM. Freddie served proudly and devotedly in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus E. Sanchez and Rufina E. Sanchez of Peralta, NM. Mr. Sanchez is survived by his sisters, JoyLynn Vaisa and husband, Gillie, MaryAnn Vigil, and Angela Sanchez; cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives of whom he was very fond of. SANDO -- LOUISA BARRY Age 94, a resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, April 21, 2012. She is survived by her son, T. Parker Sando and wife, Virginia of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Theresa Deryn Avritt and husband, Michael of Broomfield, CO; three granddaughters, Michelle Barkley and husband, Scott, Monica Noelle Avritt, and Dorothy Sando; two great-grandsons, Robert and Joe Barkley; sister, Susan Emerson and husband, Wayne; and other relatives and friends. Louisa was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Sando in 2011; son, Matthew Sando; parents, Theodore Barry and Alice Parker; sister, Dorothy Restall; and brothers, Alfred and William Parker. She was born in 1917 in Sturbridge, MA and worked in publishing preparing amateur radio journals which were used in the service during WWII. After the war she came west where she met Joe in Arizona and they were married in 1950. They moved to Albuquerque in 1951 where she was active in raising her family. In later years, Louisa worked for the BIA as a real property manager. She was very active in garden clubs and won many awards for her vegetables and flowers at the state fair. She was a long time member of Queen of Angels Chapel. Louisa was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at French - University Chapel, 1111 University Blvd NE. STEVENSON -- STELLA DOROTHEA Passed away Sunday, April 22, in her home at the age of 94, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Stella was born in Newark, NJ to Jan and Apolonia Pencarski, who preceded her death, as did her husband of 39 years, George. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Leslie and husband, Michael of Albuquerque, with whom she had lived since 2002; her beloved son, Gary and wife, Carolyn; granddaughters, Dawn and Heather; great-granddaughters, Jordan and Reagan, all of New Jersey; sister, Jean of Edgewater, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. Stella will be remembered as a loving mother, a faithful wife, a devoted grandmother, and a caring and selfless woman. The family wishes to thank "Share Your Care Adult Day Services" for the angels providing respite during the day; Ambercare Hospice for the wonderful and caring staff that tended to her physical needs during her illness; St. Jude Thaddeus Church (thank you Josie) for tending to her spiritual needs; and the many friends and family members who offered their support, strength and love during the last difficult years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 28, at 7:00 pm, at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd. NW. Stella will be reunited with her husband George, at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. TRUJILLO-TUROWSKI -- ELENA LOUISE Elena was received into the arms of the angels on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the age of 32. She fought a long and courageous battle with cervical cancer. Elena was born December 10, 1979 in Farmington, NM to Maria and Herman Trujillo. She attended Aztec schools and graduated from Sandia High School. She was nominated and chosen for Who's Who of American High School Students three years in a row. After graduating from high school in 1998, she attended Highlands University. Elena loved animals and was passionate about cooking. At the time of her passing, she was employed at Sitel. She lived loud, she loved hard, always had a smile on her face, and left us all too soon. Waiting to greet her with open arms were her grandparents, Frances and Al Trujillo; great-grandmother, Julianita Trujillo; grandmother, Ivy Turner and great-grandmother, Beatrice Minium; her cousin, Tama Herrera; special friends including Phillip Sena and Danny Brown; and her beloved animals, Snoopy Sam, Indico, Sheba, Tina and Wolf were also there to greet her as well. She is survived by her soulmate and love of her life, Aidan Turowski; her father, Herman Trujillo; her mother, Maria Chandler; brother, Hollis Turner; step-parents, Kenny Turner and Nancy Rhien; her maternal grandparents, Ben and Claire Di Francesco; as well as Aidan's parents, David Turowski and Abigail Westwood and his brother, Brendan. She is also survived by numerous special aunts, uncles, cousins, and her beloved cats, Puddy and Pandi. A Rosary will be recited Thursday, April 26, 2012, 7:00 p.m. at French - Wyoming Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, Tennessee and Lomas, Friday, April 27, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. There will be a potluck reception following the services at French - Westside Chapel, 9300 Golf Course Rd. NW. WUBKER -- JOHN Age 65, died April 14, 2012. He was a 22 year veteran of the United States Air Force and served in many locations around the world including Vietnam, Thailand, Alaska and Turkey. John is survived by Jean, his wife of 38 years; his mother-in-law Mary C. Kondos; daughter Melissa Jansen and her husband Stephen Marusich; his brother Rono (Cam Van) Wubker; his sister Glenrose Amiri; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews; and his aunt Corinne Giese of Milwaukee, WI. The family will receive friends at a Celebration of Life on Wednesday, April 25th from 4:00 to 7:30 pm at Casa del Rey Church, 2500 Corona Dr. NW, Albuquerque, NM. In lieu of floral tributes, the family requests charitable donations be made in John's name to animal welfare or Vererans organizations.
