ALLEN -- LELAND J. Age 84, died Wednesday, April 4, 2012. He was born on June 22, 1927 to Ivan and Aletta Allen on their farm near Booker, Texas. He was the fifth of eight children and spent his youth on the farm during the Great Depression and Dust Bowl years. On November 24, 1956, he married Dorothy Spies in Yoakum, Texas, after which they made Albuquerque their home. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Frank, and grandson Kyle Lee Borgfeld. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy S. Allen; daughters, Lynette (Curt) Borgfeld; Dana (David) Allen Mullen; Nina (Michael) Giglio; grandchildren, Caitlyn, Kelly and Kevin Borgfeld of Round Rock, Texas, and Daniel and Diana Mullen of Albuquerque. He is also survived by brothers, Ivan and RD Allen, sisters, Harriet Strickland, Mamie Agler, Effie Townsend, Dorothy Tate; and many nieces and nephews. Leland graduated from Booker High School in 1944, and worked for local farmers and ranchers until he was drafted into the U.S. Navy in 1945. He was re-called into the Navy in 1950 and served for almost two years to complete his Reserve enlistment plus Truman's 1 year extension. He obtained a BS in EE, MBA and MS in EE from the University of Texas. He was employed as an Electrical Engineer for Pantex, near Amarillo, Texas making preparations for the 1953, above-ground, nuclear test series conducted at the Nevada Test Site. In August of 1956, he began his employment at Sandia National Laboratories, where he spent 20 years in radar design and 17 years in weapon systems design. He was a Registered Professional Engineer in New Mexico and Texas and a Life Member of IEEE. He joined Faith Lutheran Church by adult Baptism and Confirmation on April 14, 1956 and remained active there until his death. He was Faith's lay representative on the Luther House Governing Board, and co-chaired with Dorothy, the planning for Faith's Twenty-Fifth Anniversary Celebration. After retirement in June 1993, he volunteered as a science advisor for several APS elementary schools, SIPI Upward Bound program, the AARP Income Tax Preparation program and the National Atomic Museum. He was also an Amateur Radio Operator. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Friends may visit on Friday, April 6, 2012 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at French-Lomas Chapel. GURULE -- ERNEST Age 41, of ALB, New Mexico went to heaven on April 2, 2012. HENSLEY -- GEORGE H. Age 83, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2012 in Carlsbad, N.M. George was born May 10, 1928 in Parsons, Tennessee. The family moved to New Mexico in 1936. George attended school in Edgewood and Stanley. George married Irma Jean Raymond, and from that union was born Raymond Earnest, James Robert, and Ronald Ellis. He was an avid pilot. HEUER -- CONNIE Age 85, a resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, April 2, 2012. MATTOX -- JUANITA F. Age 94, a longtime resident of Corrales, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2012. She is survived by her daughters, Betty Jo Cruikshank of Rio Rancho, Ann Garren of Rio Rancho, and Kay Schmidt and husband, Evan, of Corrales; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and brothers-in-law, Thomas and William Dannenberg. MILAVEC -- CELLA "SALLY" BLANCHE WILLIAMS SCHAEFER Of Rio Communities, graduated to Heaven on Thursday, March 29, 2012. One of 12 children, Sally was born June 8, 1927 in Loving, NM to Roxie and Frank Williams. They owned a farm in Loving. She graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1944. During WWII, she worked as a Navy secretary in San Diego. She married Paul Schaefer, a Naval Aviator, in Carlinville, IL on May 31, 1947. They had two children together, Paulette and Mike. Paul was killed in May, 1951 while serving as a combat pilot in the Korean War. She married Joe T. Milavec on June 29, 1952 in Roswell. They had two children together, Vince and Sally Ann. Joe preceded her in death in January, 1995. She is survived by her longtime, beloved companion, Lemoin "Hoppi" Hopkins; children, Paulette V. Misanko and husband Mel, Michael A. Schaefer and wife Sheri, Vincent T. Milavec and wife Leslie, Sally Ann Milavec and husband Hugo Sevcik. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Desiree, Stefan, Sarah, Shaun, Nikki, Logan, Jade, Talaya, Adam, Jenna; and nine great-grandchildren; two sisters; and three brothers. She lived in Los Lunas since December, 1965. She and her husband, Joe Milavec, were owners of Milavec Realty. She was well thought of in the community and did numerous charitable contributions to countless individuals and various organizations including Boys and Girls Ranches in Belen. She was also recognized as an "Unsung Hero" for her work in providing coats for elementary school children in Los Lunas. She was a loving, generous, compassionate wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She loved people, playing bridge, and belonged to three bridge groups until the end of her life. She also loved to read and dance, and have friends over for dinner, fun and games. She was a feisty red-head who made everyone's life better. RUNYAN -- ALBERT (AL) COLONEL, USAF. RET. (KOREA AND VIETNAM VETERAN) Age 83, joined his wife Terry and his son Scott in heaven Friday, 30 March, 2012. Al Runyan loved his large family and will be tremendously missed by those who knew him. Al Runyan is survived by his son Damon Runyan (LCDR, USN, Ret) and wife Michelle; daughter Patricia and husband Lee Dickens (SGTMaj, USMC, Ret); daughter Coreen and husband Lee Carrillo, all of Albuquerque; brother Scott and wife Hilda of San Francisco, brother Don and wife Ruth of Oregon, and sister Mary and husband Tom of Connecticut; grandchildren, Alan Runyan (USMC Veteran) and wife Donna; Kristine and husband Dave Peabody; and Michael Runyan all of Albuquerque; Kristen Carrillo of Paso Robles, California; and Aaron Carrillo and wife Cindy of Phoenix, AZ. Al had five great-grandchildren, Valerie and Natalie Runyan, Amanda and Kyle Peabody, and Elijah Carrillo. Col. Runyan retired from the United States Air Force after 26 years of service in 1974 shortly after his repatriation from North Vietnam where he was held under brutal conditions for 6 years and 10 months as a Prisoner of War. While on his 88th mission as a reconnaissance pilot flying the McDonnell Douglas RF-101 Voodoo twin-engine jet aircraft, Col. Runyan was shot down by hostile ground fire and captured by the North Vietnamese army. Col. Runyan, along with approximately 570 other American Air Force and Navy pilots, spent years enduring physical torture, isolation, and starvation in several prison camps around North Vietnam. In late 1972, after the successful Operation Linebacker II ordered by President Nixon, negotiations between the United States and the North Vietnamese government led to the release of all American prisoners of war (POWs) in mid-February 1973. Upon his return, for his actions as a pilot and as a POW, Col. Runyan was awarded the Silver Star, the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross (bronze oak leaf), the Bronze Star (Combat V and 2 bronze oak leaves), the Air Medal (2 bronze oak leaves) and the Purple Heart (bronze oak leaf). He served briefly as the Assistant Wing Commander of Kirtland AFB prior to his retirement. Al was always very pleased with the decision by his wife, Terry, to settle in Albuquerque during his time in Vietnam. He truly enjoyed the climate and watching Albuquerque grow. Al will be remembered by his family as a caring father who helped care for his quadriplegic son, Scott, for nine years after Scott was stricken with a nerve disorder; and a disciplined and honorable man ready to offer help in any way he could to those in need. Al also hoped and prayed for a full accounting someday of the nearly 5,000 Americans still as Missing in Action. Service will be held at French ~ Wyoming Chapel at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 7, 2012, followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery with full military honors by Kirtland Air Force Base Honor Guard. SEEHORN -- SHERI ANN REAMES Age 44, Sheri was recently set free from her illness and pain and has now gone to be with our Lord, Jesus. Sheri was born in Dallas, Texas on June 17, 1967. She grew up in Milpitas, California and had recently moved back to Albuquerque. She is survived by her husband Greg Seehorn of Monroe, WA; her daughter and son-in-law LeAndra and Vince Huff of Minden, NV; by her son Wesley Seehorn of Albuquerque; by her daughter SeCara Seehorn also of Albuquerque. She is also survived by her sister, Sheila K. Belser of Key west, Florida and her parents Fred and Nancy Reames of Chama and Albuquerque, NM. TONIGAN -- RICHARD F., DR. Was born April 24, 1927 and died March 30, 2012. "Dick" Tonigan was born in Waukegan, IL to Henry Tonigan and Thelma Joy Morgan. One of five children, Dick was raised in a proud family on a struggling farm during the depression. Life was hard, but was met with humor and optimism. Well into the later years the "band of five", (Joy, Hank, Dick, Louise, and Ducky), had an agreement that tales were for the telling and that facts were not to get in the way of a good story. Understandably, over the years family tales have taken on epic proportions. The legend of the "band of five", however, is gospel truth. For Dick, the forties and fifties were years filled with months of boredom in hospitals with scarlet fever and then malaria, followed by his greatest joy of courting and marrying his lifetime love and partner, June Peterson. Dick's two sons, Eric and Scott, were born in 1953 and 1955. The family moved to Manhattan in 1958; Dick was accepted into a Doctoral Program at Columbia. Working as plant manager of Teachers College, Dick completed his PhD in 1962 and became a faculty member in the College of Education at the University of New Mexico in 1967. Dick's twenty-years of contributions at UNM and in the community, as well as his commitment to helping Native People, always remained a source of deep satisfaction for him. These accomplishments were recognized many times and in many ways including the Academy of Educational Leadership Award, the Cooperative Leadership Award, 1993-1994, Recognition for Lifetime Achievement from the University of New Mexico and the New Mexico Research and Study Council, Service Citation for 50-Years of achievement awarded by the International Council of Educational Facility Planners, long-term membership in the Kiwanis Club, and President of the Mile High Optimist club. Well into his retirement Dick still loved to go to small communities in northern NM to see old friends and to hear how the creation of a new school had enriched the lives of young people. Above all else, Dick was a devoted and loving brother, husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather. The "band of five" has now multiplied to well over 45 and Dick was always there to help, as needed. Our dad never missed one sporting or school event, even when to do so meant racing directly from the airport to the event. Our dad always faced our failures with us, and he always asked, "How can I be helpful?" Our dad always saw the best in us even when we lost sight of ourselves. Our dad never dwelled on what went wrong, he taught us to focus on how to make things right. Our dad never took credit for our successes although they would never have occurred without him. Our dad led by example and a gentle and loving voice. Our dad walked in beauty. To those who knew him and who were touched by our father, you know these words only begin to describe the depth and value of this most remarkable man. All who knew Dick understood that he faced adversity and tragedy with incredible grace. In 1987 Dick suffered a serious stroke. His recovery required months of physical exercise and speech therapy as well as endless encouragement from June, his wife. Beginning in 2007 Dick lost his life-long partner to cancer, June, his beloved son, Eric, and his beautiful and talented daughter-in-law, Diane. Dick was the compass that guided a devastated family to learn to live and love, again. He so deeply loved his grandchildren Andrew, Jackie, Alex, Miranda, and Sarah. Dick gave selflessly to each one. As examples, at age 79 Dick watched Andrew's high school football game in sub zero weather and he yelled as loudly as the rest of us. Dick never missed one of Alex's soccer games and he attended all of Miranda's many dance recitals. He was also always quick to point out that Jackie was a cheerleader, in a nuclear medicine PhD program, and loved dogs. Sarah, he loved every minute he spent with you. In July 2011, Dick was diagnosed with MDS and he began chemotherapy treatment at Lovelace. The Tonigan family wants to extend their deepest appreciation for the compassionate and excellent treatment he received from the Lovelace oncology doctors and staff. Always the optimist, Dick continued to play golf with his buddies through his treatment, devoted all of his spare energy to the grandchildren, and always enjoyed a good story (regardless of the facts). The day before Dick passed away, he drove to see his grandchildren and he enjoyed a beautiful NM spring day, a land he loved so dearly and which he felt had given him so much. Surviving family members include: J Scott Tonigan, Radka Toscova, Andrew and Jackie Tonigan, Miranda, Phillip, and Savannah Katz, and Alexandra and Sarah Tonigan. TRUJILLO -- ROSEBEL Age 85, a New Mexico resident, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, April, 2, 2012. At her request, no memorial services will be held. She was born July 19, 1926. Rosebel Trujillo was granted her angel wings early Monday morning. In her final days she was surrounded by immediate family members. Rosebel lead a long and beautiful life. Those who knew her were touched by her existence. Her gentle smile, her kindness, thoughtfulness, and compassion brought so much joy to her family. Although in her final days she was so frail, she gave us all such courage and hope and reminded us of the preciousness of life. She was a generous, kind and caring woman. Throughout her life, Rosebel was a hardworking and ambitious woman. While in a lifelong union with her husband, Frutoso, and through a mutual vision, they owned and operated several successful businesses. Rosebel also dedicated a great part of her life and energy to caring for those close to her. She was an active member of the Catholic Church and enjoyed saying her daily prayers. Rosebel is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Frutoso Trujillo; son, Tom Trujillo and special friend Pam Elkin; daughter, Barbara Trujillo; grandchildren, Michelle C. Trujillo, Stephen Trujillo, Megan Lavadie, and Brieannne Lavadie; sister, Josie Abeyta; brothers, Augustine Garcia, Pete Garcia and his wife Helen; and many nieces and nephews. VAUGHN -- GLEN "LEON" Age 69, of Farmington, passed away April 1st in Farmington. He was born April 4, 1942 in Albuquerque to Gene and Alice Vaughn. He left an impression on the hearts of many. He showed love, respect and compassion for his sons, Cody and Dean, who were his pride and joy. He loved car racing, spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed spending the days outdoors fishing and camping. He was a hard worker and very helping to others. He lived life to the fullest, he was able to leave this world with ease. He will be truly missed by all family and friends. Leon was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Jim Vaughn and a son, Waylon Gene Vaughn and a grandchild. WEEBER -- HENRY PHILIP Age 77, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, a resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, April 2, 2012.
