BACA -- AUGUSTINA 1928 - 2012 Passed from this life on Sunday morning, January 15, 2012. She was born April 18, 1928 in Clovis, New Mexico to Alexandro and Mary Garcia, the sixth child of eight. On August 31, 1949, she married the love of her life, Jose E. Baca. They eventually moved to Belen where they raised their five children. Augustina, "Tina" loved cooking, arts and crafts, and making quilts with her quilting club. She also loved volunteering at the local elementary school attended by her grandchildren, and where she was nicknamed "Disco Grandma". Tina was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings; and two of her sons. She is survived by her husband, Jose E. Baca, Sr.; her daughter Victoria March and husband, Brian March; son Joe E. Baca, Jr.; daughter Lorraine Baca; granddaughter Julie Hill and companion Mike Turano; grandson Aaron Hill and wife Christina Hill; great-grandsons Dominic Giannini and Gino Turano; and great-step-grandchildren Hayley and Kevin Heard. All services will be at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, beginning with a viewing at 10:00 AM, followed by a Rosary at 10:30 AM and funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. A reception will follow the service. Interment will be at a later time in Santa Fe National Cemetery. BUJOL -- DIANE MYRENE Went home to heaven Sunday, January 15, 2012 surrounded by her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Renee Bujol; grandchildren, Sydney and Zachary Delcambre; brothers, Tommy, John, and Michael McCollum; aunt, Maxine Metz; stepchildren, Freddie Felts, Barbara Zimmerman, Marie Bujol, and George Bujol, Jr.; also several nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren; and last, but not least, she is survived by her cats, Frosty and Taz. She was preceded in death by her husband, Colonel George Bujol, Sr.; parents, Dale and Myrene McCollum; sister, Marian Miller; and brother, Jim McCollum. Diane was born in Dallas, TX, graduated from Highland High School and attended the University of Albuquerque. After a long career in Civil Service, Diane spent much of her time volunteering. She was active in hospice, the Albuquerque Tourism Department, the Humane Society, and acted as a court appointed children's advocate. All of her family and friends treasured Diane for her kindness and patience. BURKE -- HARRY "HANK" Age 66, a long time resident of Albuquerque, died Tuesday, January 10, 2012. He is survived by his son Nick Burke, daughter Josephina Montoya and son-in-law Shane Montoya, all of Albuquerque, NM; his sister Barbara Franklin of Albuquerque NM; his brother Dan Burke of Phoenix AZ; as well as nieces, nephews and many close friends. Mr. Burke was preceded in death by his father Dale Burke and mother Martha Burke. Hank was born in Coffeville, Kansas. He was a graduate of Regina Coeli Catholic School, Saint Pius X High School, and Eastern New Mexico University. Hank proudly served his country as a member of the United States Coast Guard and was a Vietnam Veteran. He started his career as an elementary school teacher and later became an engineer for Motorola. He retired in 2002 to take care of his father. Hank was a loving father and sibling as well as a dedicated and loyal friend. He traveled the world thoroughly, visiting six continents. Among other things Hank was a skilled poker player, avid reader, passionate Dallas Cowboys fan, talented story teller and consummate practical joker. There will be a Rosary recited Thursday January 19, 2012 at 6:00 pm and a memorial will be given on Friday, January 20, at 11:00 am with a reception to follow. BURROW -- RAY Age 85, resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 9, 2012. He was born to Adda Ray Husky and John David Burrow in Texhoma, OK on August 16, 1926. He was preceded in death by his wife, of 59 years, Eleanor Ruth Smigelow Burrow. He graduated from Keyes High School, a town located in the panhandle of Oklahoma. After graduation, he joined the Navy. He served in the Navy during World War II, from June of 1944 to June of 1946, as a non-commissioned officer. He was a gunner's mate, second class. He spent one year aboard a gunboat in the South Pacific. After he served in the Navy, he went to work in the oil fields in Oklahoma. A year later, he went to college at the University of Colorado and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Pharmacy. He married Eleanor Smigelow in 1951 and moved to Raton, NM and worked as a Pharmacist. In 1954, he bought the furniture store from his father-in-law. In 1970, he converted the business to a carpet specialty store which he ran until 1983. In his semi-retirement, he kept busy as a certified carpet inspector. In 1983, he sold the business and moved to Albuquerque, NM. He was an active member of Ballut Abyad Shriners and the Royal Order of Jesters. He is survived by his children, Valerie Padilla and husband Joseph and Nancy Bashore and husband George; grandchildren, Amy Padilla, Christy Ortiz and husband Aaron, and Jonathan Bashore; and great-grandchildren, Alexa, Gabriel and Ellie Ortiz. Memorial Services will be held Friday, January 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at French - Wyoming Chapel. Ray will be remembered as an admired and respected business man and a devoted husband, father and grandfather. CHAVEZ -- JOSEPHINE PADILLA Was born November 14, 1931 on a ranch in the Zuni, New Mexico mountains to parents, Epimeno Padilla and Lazarita (Sandoval) Padilla. She married Joe B. Chavez on January 31, 1946 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is survived by her daughter, Colleen (Chavez) Ross of TorC, NM; sister, Erlinda Mirabal of Gallup, NM; grandson, Jimmy Padilla; granddaughters, Heather Williams and Sunshine Chavez-Mahan; two great-grandsons; and three great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe B. Chavez (Shine); son, Joe B. Chavez, Jr.; and grandson, Joe B. Chavez, III. LYNCH -- FORREST D. Age 69, a resident of Elephant Butte, New Mexico, passed away on January 14, 2012 at Sierra Health Care Center. Mr. Lynch was born in Canyon City, Colorado on September 7, 1942 to Forrest D. Lynch and Lora Jean (Evans) Lynch. He worked in the construction business for Tewa Moulding. MARKEL -- DREW DEAN Passed away suddenly on the morning of January 7, 2012. He was 53 years old. Drew was born in Montevideo, MN and was a life-long fan of the Minnesota Vikings. An extremely gifted Chef, Drew attended Mitchell Area Vocational Technical School and graduated with a degree in Culinary Arts in 1978. He owned and operated numerous restaurants throughout the United States including Moe's New York Style Pizzeria, The Bull & Bush, and others. His last project was to open the Black Diamond Grill in Red River, New Mexico with Lane and Jessica Cross. Drew was preceded in death by his father, Howard Dean Markel; his mother Mary Jo Nelson; and his brother Hugh Markel. He is survived by his niece Courtney De La Rosa of Vermillion, South Dakota; his nephew Corey Markel of San Diego, California; his step-son Michael Evans and his wife Natalie and their unborn son of Indiana; his stepdaughter Mandy of Los Chavez; the two loves of his life, Dovel Mc Dole and Annette Otero; as well as his good friend Jim Pawelski; and his Labrador Daisy. So many people were touched by this man. He was witty, gruff and passionate about the restaurant business; always there to lend a hand or teach someone how to prepare a dish. Drew prided himself on perfection and literally worked himself to the grave; making his last act on Earth a five course seafood dinner for his good friend Rob. Drew's wishes were to be cremated and his ashes spread to join those of his brother Hugh. His achievements and his love for all of us in his life will be celebrated at 12:00pm on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at a private residence in Peralta, New Mexico. MONTOYA -- NESTOR M. Age 94, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on, Sunday, January 15, 2012. Mr. Montoya was born on May 11, 1917 in Truchas, NM to Juanita and Rosenaldo Montoya. Mr. Montoya is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-nine years, Cristina; children, Connie Goffice and husband, Ron, Jean Montoya, Regina Wells and husband, Rick, Rita Holcomb and husband, Louie, and Henry Montoya and wife, Debbie; grandchildren, Scott, Christine, Todd, Justin, Chad, Amy, Courtney, Nicole, Denise, Steven, Lorie, and Melissa; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Floy Fuentes; and sister-in-law, Jennie Montoya. PASILLAS -- ANGELICA Was born May 20, 1974 in Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. She lost her battle with brain cancer on Saturday, January 14, 2012 in Albuquerque at the age of 37. Angelica was an active member of Legacy Church on the West Side. She will be remembered as a loving mother of three, who enjoyed dancing, cooking, and had a wonderful artistic and creative side. Angelica had an outgoing personality and always carried a smile on her face. She is survived by her mother, Maria Quintana; father, Jesus Pasillas; sisters, Imelda Muniz and Maria Ramirez; brother, Ruben Pasillas; her children, Alexis Munoz age 18, Santiago Arteaga age 12, Cielo Arteaga age 11; and her life partner, Steve Arteaga; as well as many family members and friends who loved her and will greatly miss her. SAAVEDRA -- ROSELLA ANAYA Was born December 7, 1925 and passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2012 in Albuquerque, NM at the age of 86. Rosella graduated from Harwood Girls Schools in Home Economics. She was a homemaker but helped all her life in running the family businesses. She was an inspiration to her family because they were the center of her life and everything she did was devoted to them and their wellbeing. She loved to cook, sew, crochet, and knit and her passions were passed down with gentle guidance and patience to her children and grandchildren who wanted to learn these skills. Her red chile was known to all that entered her kitchen and many people always encouraged her to market it to the world. She would simply laugh and tell the story how her husband always told her that you should never skimp on the meat and that is how she taught us all to make it. She loved her children and grandchildren and through her years of acquired wisdom passed on her knowledge and advice to them. She was a mother to the many friends her sons brought home to eat and stay a while, and always had an open door. She is loved and remembered by all. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Efren Saavedra; son, Sammy Saavedra; and grandson, Robbie Saavedra. Rosella is survived by her sons, Ruben Saavedra, Efren Saavedra Jr., Richard Saavedra and Cathy Chavez, Paul Saavedra of Albuquerque, and Anthony and Jennifer Saavedra of Monrovia, California; daughter-in-law, Kathy Saavedra; grandchildren, Ruben Jr., Richie, Clyde, Samantha, Brittany, Chloe, Savannah, Mackie, Ashlee, Cassie and Nickel; 13 great-grandchildren; as well as many other family and friends who love and will miss her. ULIBARRI -- JOSE Age 91, passed away Friday, January 13, 2012. He was born in Albuquerque, NM on August 8, 1920, to Jesus and Briaida Ulibarri. Jose Ulibarri was a proud member of the 556th Air Service Group as a Military Police Officer, he was honorably discharged on September 18, 1945. Jose worked for the New Mexico Railroad as a foreman and was also a general contractor specializing in concrete work. He was well known throughout the Christian community as he helped build many churches. Jose is survived by his loving wife, Altagracia Ulibarri; daughter, Erlinda Carrasco; son, David Ulibarri; grandchildren, Avelino Carrasco, Marcos Carrasco, Luciana Carrasco and Zenaida Martinez; great-grandchildren, Felicia Ulibarri, Melissa Durgin, Malcolm Carrasco, Isabel Carrasco, Jacob Martinez, Clemente Martinez, Elijah Martinez, Cristobal Martinez, Santana Carrasco, Vicente Carrasco, Isabella Carrasco, Nazareth Carrasco and Israel Carrasco; great great-grandchildren, Janelle Ulibarri and Nehemiah Carrasco. ZAMORA -- JUANITA L. Age 91, was born April 8, 1920 and passed away peacefully on January 15, 2012. Juanita was a current member of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, and volunteered her time in her younger years with St. Vincent De Paul. Along with her husband she enjoyed crafting, painting and cooking. She was preceded in death by her husband Pete A. Zamora on May 30, 2006 after 62 years of marriage; sister, Ascension Salinas; brother, Santiago Lopez. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Romero and husband Rudy J.; two grandchildren, Yvonne T. Dion and husband Eric, and Christopher A. Romero; great-grandchildren, Van S. Dion and Ella K. Dion. A visitation will be held from 6pm-7pm with a Rosary to follow at 7:00pm on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Salazar & Sons Mortuary. Mass will be held at 10:00am on Friday, January 20, 2012 at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church 811 Guaymas Pl NE, Albuq, NM. Interment is to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
