ABEYTA -- MICHAEL Age 63, a resident of the Los Lunas Community Program, went to be with his Lord on Monday, September 19, 2011. Michael was a member of the San Clemente Catholic Church in Los Lunas. Michael was preceded in death by his parents Gregorio "Greg" A. Abeyta and Sylvia Baca Abeyta and his brother Ronnie. Michael is survived by his brother Luis and his wife Cyndie Abeyta; nephew, Francisco, nieces, Angela and Maria; and great-nieces, Audriana and Mia Sophia. Michael is also survived by the many loving caregivers and staff of the Los Lunas Community Program and the State of New Mexico. All services will be held at San Clemente Catholic Church beginning with a viewing on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at 7:00 pm followed by a Rosary at 7:30 pm. The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 23, 2011 at 12:30 pm, followed by a reception in the church parish hall. Interment will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Francisco Abeyta, Joe Wright, Walter Brown, Julie Garcia, Margaret Gallegos and Andrew Salas. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ida Baldonaro and Carina Gabriel. ARAGON -- ANTHONY "Big A", 51, born on February 3, 1960, passed away on September 18, 2011 in Albuquerque, NM. He was preceded in death by his mother Roberta O. Aragon. He is survived by his father Walter Aragon Jr. He is survived by four children, Patricia, Jennifer, Walter and Jeremy; eight grandchildren, Melina, Jordon, Madison, Ethan, Elliot, Walter, Anaisa, and Ariana. He is also survived by two sisters, Angela Morris and husband Jason, Annette Hoyer and husband Billy. Niece Brianna Morris, nephews Ian and Logan Hoyer. Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. BOYER -- ROBERT (BOB) E., SR. Age 73, a resident of Edgewood, NM, entered into the arms of his heavenly Father and Lord on September 18, 2011. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Audrey; daughters, Cheryl Lujan and husband, Terry and Sandra Boyer; daughter-in-law, Lisa King Boyer; grandchildren, Christy Boyer, T.J. Lujan, and Dusty Lujan; many nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen Boyer; his brother, Johnny Boyer; and his son, Robert E. Boyer, Jr. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from June 1955 to November 1958. Bob retired from the Los Alamos National Labs in 1995 after 37 years of service. Following retirement, he enjoyed playing his guitar and ran a small machine shop out of his garage. Bob was referred to as the community handy man because of his generosity, extensive knowledge, and ability to fix just about anything that came his way. Per his wishes, cremation will take place. GARRIS -- WANONA D. Age 70, of Albuquerque and formerly of Amarillo died Sunday, September 18, 2011, in Albuquerque, N.M. GRIEVES -- WILLIAM RANDALL Was born July 9, 1952 in Eagle Lake, Texas. He was the third son born to Jack and Mary Grieves. Rand began his strong work ethic early in life working in the farming and ranching industry before graduating from Eagle Lake High School. He continued in farming until 1997 when he moved to Albuquerque where he began driving for Central Consolidated Freight Company and was a coast to coast driver for ten years. Whether it was a tale about hunting alligators or his life on the road everyone enjoyed his humor. His story telling and quick wit would bring more than a smile to his friends and usually would mean full throttle belly laughs with tears running down their cheeks. No topic was sacred and no one was spared being the target of his wit using his Texas drawl to liven up the story. Rand was preceded in death by his parents. His is survived by his two older brothers and their families: David and Rose of Albuquerque and John and Paula of Roswell, NM; and two nieces Megan Grieves and Kristin Mihalik and her husband George of Albuquerque; and great cousin, Sally Veseth of Albuquerque. HALAMA -- PAUL "PABLO" Age 94 and 4 months to the day, a Swiss citizen and a resident of Albuquerque for 29 years, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2011. Paul was the patriarch of the Halama/Halma family. He is survived by his ex-wife and friend, Dottie Halama Otto. He enjoyed skiing, mountain climbing, playing tennis, dancing, traveling Europe and the United States and ice skating. Paul also loved animals and supported the Animal Humane Society. He will be missed by all who knew him at The Montebello on Academy. JIRON -- ALPHONSE 1917-2011 Affectionately known to all as "Uncle Al", 94, beloved grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 14, 2011. He was born in Capitan, New Mexico in 1917 to Jacobo and Lilly Jiron, and spent the better part of his youth in Quemado and Reserve, N.M. He worked as a water boy for the cattle drives between Quemado and Magdalena. It was during this time that he honed his skills as an expert hunter and fisherman, which he continued to enjoy throughout his life. He took great pride in teaching his beloved nephews everything he knew about the great outdoors. He was also a self-styled guitarist and photographer. Uncle Al never met a stranger, loved to tell jokes and his sense of humor was evident the minute you met him. In his teen years, his family moved to Santa Fe and he joined the Civilian Conservation Corp working in road construction. During World War II he volunteered to drive military trucks transporting ammunition to the depots in Flagstaff, Arizona. While in Flagstaff, he met and married Janet Glenn, and soon after, moved to Albuquerque where he was employed by Sandia National Laboratories as a physical plant supervisor. He retired from the labs after 30 years of outstanding service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet in 1999; his parents; brothers, Pat and Jake Jiron; sisters, Sally Baca and Virginia Quillen; brothers-in-law, Louie Baca, Jack Quillen, and Arno Romero and sister-in-law, Carmen Jiron. Al is survived by his grandson, Mike Glenn and his wife, Cheryl; his loving great-grandchildren, Teagun and Sterling Glenn; loving sister, Barbara Romero; aunt, Viola Jackson and sister-in-law, Dorothy Jiron. Uncle Al is survived by many loving nephews, nieces, and very special friends, Bob Raught, Joann Gaines and Becky. Delia was an active member of various associations for the deaf at National, State and local level. She leaves behind her spouse of 71 years, Vannie L. MOORE -- LOU Age 81, died in her home in La Luz New Mexico, on Saturday, September 17, with her daughters at her side. Billie Lou was born on July 23, 1930, in Ft Worth, Texas, and was raised in Idabel, Oklahoma. She was a resident of La Luz, New Mexico since 2000 and before that, a resident of Albuquerque NM since 1963. She attended Gray High School in Idabel where she was undoubtedly the most popular girl there, being head cheerleader, homecoming queen, student council president and much more. Her children and grandchildren, however, believed her most outstanding accomplishments were in her parenting and grandmothering skills. In Albuquerque, Lou worked for several dental offices as office manager. After she retired, she moved to La Luz where she was active in the CASA program as a childrens' advocate. She was also a part of the Calico Club where she had many friends. Lou was known for her creativity, sense of humor and her many comical tee-shirts. As an avid reader, talented artist and seamstress, she was often called upon by her friends, family, and co-workers to come up with something clever to fit any occasion. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Edith Kuykendall; sister, Joan Ray; brother, RD Kuykendall. She is survived by her children, Linda Maestas and husband Frank, Suzie Fresquez and husband Julian, Jan Sanchez and husband Filbert, and Wil Moore; a brother, Randy Kuykendall and wife Sonja; her sister-in-law, Jean Kuykendall; Lou had eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 24, 1:00 p.m., at the Burro Flats Volunteer Fire Department, 556 Laborcita Canyon Rd. La Luz NM. A private interment will be held in Idabel OK at a later date. NEWELL -- DONALD W. Age 86, born December 19, 1924 in Great Bend, Kansas and died September 19, 2011 in Albuquerque and lived most of his life in Denver, Colorado and Albuquerque. Mr. Newell was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Inez. He is survived by his sister, Lenora Ruthven; three nieces; four nephews and their families; and many friends. Don had a career in sales of office supplies with Frankel Carbon and Ribbon in Denver for 50 years. Most recently, he was active in the Solo Club, the Elks, Meadowlark Senior Center and Hope in the Desert Episcopal Church. PAIZ-CASTILLO -- JERROLYN D. "ANNA" 1964 - 2011 Age 46, a resident of Belen, passed away at her home on Monday, September 19, 2011. She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church and also proudly served our country in the United States Army during the first Gulf War. She worked at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Albuquerque. Jerrolyn loved to draw, sketch and paint and always enjoyed time spent with family and friends. She always had a warm smile and was loved and will be missed by many people. Jerrolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Adelaide and Timothy Paiz; sister, Sheryl Paiz and two nieces. She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Michael Castillo, who cared for her and was by her side until her passing. She is also survived by a number of family members and friends. All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Thursday, September 22, 2011 beginning with a viewing at 9:00 am, followed by the Rosary at 9:30 am and a funeral Mass at 10:00 am. PORTER -- LYLE K. Long-time resident of Albuquerque, Lyle K. Porter passed away on September 9, 2011. He was 86 years old. Lyle was born in Morgan, UT to Warren and Bertha Cook Porter. The Porters had a large family of eight boys and two girls. The family moved to Panguitch, UT when Lyle was about ten years old. After high school and the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Lyle enlisted in the Navy and served at the Naval Training Station in San Diego. After the war, he moved to Ogden, UT where he fell in love with Wilma Holmes, whom he married on June 21, 1951. The couple moved to Albuquerque where Lyle worked for 37 years as a scientist for Sandia National Laboratories. He loved his work which focused on rockets, sensors, and satellites. He traveled world-wide with Sandia and in the course of his career moved his family to Washington DC, Boston, and Germany. Lyle was a very involved member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as President of the Albuquerque East Stake and three times as a Regional Representative to the Council of Twelve Apostles. Lyle and Wilma served a mission together for the church at Temple Square in Salt Lake City, UT where they escorted visitors through the temple grounds. Later they co-authored a history of the LDS church in New Mexico. Lyle is survived by five children, Bruce Porter and wife, Susan of Bountiful, UT, Rebecca Rogers and husband, Gary of Longwood, FL, Pamela Hamblin and husband, Randy of Albuquerque, Carolyn Brustad and husband, Roger of Gaithersburg, MD, and Susan Grenfell and husband, Darrin of Versailles, KY. He is also survived by an older brother, Harvey Porter of Morgan, UT and younger brother, Paul Porter of Bountiful, UT. His posterity includes 22 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Lyle will be held Saturday, September 24, 2011, at the Indian School Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 12701 Indian School Rd., NE, Bishop Derek Lines officiating. REYNOLDS -- MARJORIE ELIZABETH (BREIT) Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother passed away at age 87 on Sunday, September 18, 2011. She was born February 25, 1924 in Savannah, MO. Marjorie graduated Nursing Training at Missouri Methodist Hospital in St. Joseph, MO. She married Lyman E. Reynolds when he returned from the Navy in WWII. They moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1955, then Bernalillo, NM in 1972. Marjorie worked at the former Bataan Memorial Methodist Hospital while Lyman worked for the Corps of Engineers where he retired in 1982, then preceding Marjorie in death 1984. Marjorie enjoyed ceramics, doll making, dress making and other crafts. She was always the best friend to everyone she met. Marjorie is survived by son, John M. Reynolds, of Roswell, NM; daughter, Virginia Miller of Gordon, TX; granddaughter, Melissa Veatch of Killeen, TX; grandsons, John L. Reynolds of Phoenix, AZ, and Sean Thomas Reynolds of Jemez Springs, NM; brother Richard Breit of Shreveport, LA; sister, Mary Harter of Orlando, FL; four great-grandsons, Derik, Triston, Logan Veatch, Levi Henry Reynolds; cousin, Garnett Huges of Savannah, MO, James O. ROMERO -- DARLENE A. Oct. 31, 1965-Sept. 18, 2011 Darlene walked into the arms of the Lord on September 18, 2011. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents Fidel and Amalia Romero. SAAVEDRA -- GERALD D. "GERALDO" a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, was born August 8, 1960. He passed away Sunday, September 18, 2011 at the age of 51. A 1978 graduate of Valley High School, Geraldo attended DeWolf School of Cosmetology, where he became a hair stylist, owning and operating "Geraldo and Friends Salon". He will be remembered as a loving son, brother, uncle and friend. Geraldo loved to attend Church, singing in many Church Choirs. As well, he loved to cook and spend time with his cherished family. Geraldo was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jose and Corina Sanchez and Estanislado Saavedra and by his niece, Samantha Lynn Saavedra. He is survived by his parents, Eliseo and Jenny Saavedra; brother, Stan Saavedra; two sisters, Barbara Saavedra and Sandra Guzman; sister- in-law, Donna Saavedra; brothers-in-law, Odalis Guzman and Ernie Montoya; five nieces, Charmayne, Sarah Louise, Amanda, Emilia and Olivia Elise; one nephew, Estanislado; great niece, Madison; many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, family members and friends who loved, will miss him and adored him greatly. SALAZAR -- KEVIN Age 43, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, went to be with the Lord on September 20, 2011. He is survived by his spouse, Shelly; his daughters, Heather Salazar and partner, Joaquin Herrera and Hollyanne Salazar and partner, Anthony Pinzon; his father, Hank Salazar; his mother, Sue Defenbaugh; his sisters, Susie and Lynn Salazar; his brothers, Hank Salazar Jr. and wife Cherese, Anthony Salazar and partner, Amanda Walden, John Salazar and wife, April, and Matthew and Andrew Salazar; sister-in-law, Sharon Breech; and several nieces and nephews. Kevin was born in Oxnard, CA and relocated to Albuquerque in the early 1990's. He brought with him his love for painting and ultimately led one of the most successful painting businesses in Albuquerque. He was anxiously awaiting the birth of his first granddaughters. His passion for old cars created quite the used car lot in his driveway because he refused to part with any of them. He was always game for a road trip and enjoyed his fishing, his dogs, and a beautiful sunset. He fought the good fight. He finished the race. He kept the faith. SANCHEZ -- HENRY Age 74, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, a beloved coach, and former politician, died Monday, September 19, 2011. He is survived by his two children, Darren G. Sanchez of Albuquerque and Janine Salmon and husband, Louie of Almagordo, NM; one granddaughter, Kelsie; his father, Antonio Sanchez of Albuquerque; two brothers, Albert Sanchez of Albuquerque and Gilbert Sanchez of California; one nephew, Michael Sanchez of Albuquerque; other relatives and friends. Henry was preceded in death by his mother, Veneranda Armijo Sanchez. He was born in 1937 in Albuquerque, NM and graduated from St. Mary's High School, Class of 1955. He then attended and graduated from College of St. Joseph with a BA Degree. Henry later received his MA Degree from the University of New Mexico. Henry was a NAIA All American Basketball player at College of St. Joseph in 1959. From 1960-1965 he coached at Our Lady of Sorrows in Bernalillo before coaching at Bernalillo High School until 1983. He led the Spartans to five state championship games, including titles in 1977 and 1979. Henry then went to New Mexico Highlands where he coached until 1996, leading them to school records in wins in the back to back seasons of 1988-1989 and 1989-1990. That record still stands. From 1996 to 2001 he coached at Robertson High School in Las Vegas and rebuilt the basketball program. Henry then served as Mayor of Las Vegas, NM from 2002 through 2008. His pride and joy was The Love Thy Neighbor Fund which is still instrumental in Las Vegas. Henry was a member of the New Mexico High School Coaches Association Hall of Honor, the Albuquerque Sports Hall of Fame, the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame and the New Mexico Highlands Hall of Honor. Henry was the National High School Coach of the Year in 2001. He was also eight times the New Mexico Coach of the Year. Henry was also a past president of the New Mexico Coaches Association, and National Chairman for High School Basketball. He was most famous for building "Spartan Alley" in Bernalillo where the Spartans were dominate from the 60's through the early 80's. He was a loving father, grandfather, son and brother and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Rosary will be held at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 619 Copper Ave. NE, Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Memorial Mass at 10:00 a.m. A reception will follow at "Spartan Alley", the old high school and the new junior high in Bernalillo. TAFOYA -- EILEEN M. "HONEY" Age 52, a resident of Alameda, NM, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 17, 2011. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Ben Paul Tafoya; two special daughters, Michelle and Monica Tafoya; her precious grandchildren, ChristiAna and Caiden Tafoya; god-children Christopher Gutierrez, Jessica Cordova and Adrianna Tafoya. She is also survived by her parents, Tomas "Popo" and Elsie Gonzales; four sisters, Ramona Chavez, Angie Duran, Rita Cordova and Rachel Gutierrez and husband Steve; one brother, Tommy Gonzales Jr, mother-in-law, Julia Tafoya; sister-in-law, Esther and husband, Andy Barela; brother-in-law, Lawrence and wife, Diane Tafoya; also numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and many other family members. Eileen was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Bennie G. Tafoya; uncle, Matias Gonzales; nephew, Joseph Duran; cousin, Yolanda "Yoli" Salaiz; and great-niece, Carleas Duran. Mrs. Tafoya was an employee of the City of Albuquerque. She was a cancer survivor for 15 years, and also battled Lupus for 9 years. Eileen was a strong and loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed. She put others before herself so much of the time. Eileen was a member of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Catholic Parish and charter member of the Catholic Daughters. She was a participant of the Relay for Life. A Rosary will be recited Thursday, September 22, 2011, 7:00 pm, and a Mass will be celebrated Friday, September 23, 2011, 9:00 am, at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 9502 Alameda NW, with interment to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. URITU -- GHEORGHE SR. Age 52, a resident of Albuquerque since 1988, died unexpectedly on Saturday, September 17, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Manuela "Nina"; son, Gheorghe Uritu, Jr. of Albuquerque; parents, Gheorghe and Ioana Uritu of Romania; sisters, Elena Spilca of Albuquerque and Mihaela Uritu of Munich, Germany; nieces and nephew, Marica, Mihaela and Mihai, Jr.; mother-in-law, Viorica Trifu of Romania; numerous other relatives; and many friends in both Romania and Albuquerque. Gheroghe was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Mihai Spilca and father-in-law, Aurel Trifu. Gheorghe was born in 1959 in Romania and after high school joined the Romanian Police Academy. He served as a police officer in Romania until immigrating to the United States in 1988, at which time he came to Albuquerque to join his sister, Elena and brother-in-law, Gheorghe worked for them until starting his own business. At the time of his death he worked at GST Gas Station on Coors. Gheorghe was a happy, outgoing and very friendly person who never held a grudge. He felt very fortunate to live in the United States and was a very giving type of person. Gheorghe was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and uncle and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. WEHLING -- LORENE M. Age 86, a resident of Albuquerque since 1964 died Saturday, September 17, 2011 after a short illness. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Patrick L. Wehling; children, Pat Wehling, Jr. and wife, Ruth Anne, Mary Pedersen and husband, Dennis, Joe Wehling and wife, Debra, Chris Wehling, and Matt Wehling; four grandchildren, Jessica, Luke, Emma and Alice; step granddaughter, Shayla Heavner; sister, Carlene Sanders and husband, Marvin; numerous nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends. Lorene was preceded in death by her parents, Fred H. and Veronica M. Rice; and four siblings. Lorene was born in 1924 in Minco, Oklahoma and graduated from Minco High School and attended the Oklahoma College for Women at Chickasha. She married Patrick on September 3, 1946. They enjoyed travelling to visit family and attend 449th Bomb Group reunions and Rice family reunions. Lorene was an accomplished seamstress. She was a volunteer at Our Lady of Fatima Parish and Women's Guild. Lorene was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
