BENSON -- SUZANNE T. "SUE" 53, a resident of Albuquerque, died of complications due to Cancer, Friday, July 29, 2011. She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Paul J. Benson and daughter, Sarah M. Benson, of the family home as well as her mother, Marilyn Lane; brother, Gilbert Theroux of Albuquerque; and sister, Michel1e Riddle of Ignacio, Colorado. Her father, LTC. Gilbert Theroux, preceded her in death. Sue was born in Lawton, OK on July 1, 1958. Sue accompanied her family on her father's various tours of duty throughout the United States. Her family settled in Albuquerque. Sue was a graduate of El Dorado High School in Albuquerque. She was an alumna of the University of New Mexico and Arizona State University. For many years, Sue was an active Windsurfer and Skier. Although she often celebrated her birthday during the Telluride Fourth of July Celebration, Taos Ski Valley was her favorite place to ski in the winter and stay in the summer. Sue supported many activities of The Bosque School, where her daughter graduated. Sue loved her North Valley home with access to the Bosque river trail, where she could walk her beloved Golden Retriever, Roxy. Sue spent the last 18 years at SCI, Inc. She was an equity owner in the corporation founded with friends she had been acquainted with for over 30 years. Sue will be greatly missed by all that have known her. DOUGHERTY -- PATRICK JOSEPH A life-long resident of Albuquerque, passed away at University of New Mexico Hospital on July 27, 2011, after a tragic accident. He was born in Albuquerque on March 16, 1954. He was the fourth of five children born to Cleo A. Dougherty and Ann M. Dougherty. He was known as Uncle Pat to family and friends. He graduated from St. Pius X High School in 1972 and attended the University of New Mexico. Patrick worked as a conductor/brakeman for the BNSF Railroad for 17 years. He lived his life with love for family and friends and much, much laughter. He was known for his heart of gold. Patrick is survived by his brothers, Dennis of East Stroudsburg, PA, Richard, of Panorama City, CA, and Charles, of Thoreau, NM; his sister, Diane Ganzerla, of Albuquerque; his many nieces and nephews, cousins, and his special friend, Faith Basaillon. A Rosary will be held at 6:00 pm on July 31, 2011, at Daniels Family Mortuary, 7601 Wyoming Blvd., NE, Albuquerque. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on August 1, 2011, at Church of the Risen Savior, 7701 Wyoming Blvd., NE, Albuquerque. DUFFIELD -- GEORGE W. Age 90, of Mesa, Az passed June 24, 2011. George retired from Sandia National Laboratories, where he was in the arming and firing section of nuclear testing. He is survived by wife Rosemary; son Gary; daughter Linda; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

FAY -- WILLIAM G. (BILL) 81, passed peacefully the bonds of Earth on July 27, 2011. Fiercely loyal to his family and friends, Bill grew up in old New York and New Jersey with a close knit group of lifelong pals and family that shared a love of hot rods, Boy Scout camping and World events only the Big Apple could provide. From pilot training to Atomic development, Bill was proudly in government service with the United States Air Force, AEC, ERDA and DOE for 42 years. Operating in the "secret" base, the 1094th Special Reporting Unit in Albuquerque was a particular career highlight. Bill's education and work took him through nearly every state, though between Tucson, Arizona and Albuquerque, New Mexico he made his home and family. He was very proud of his family and their storied accomplishments. Bill is survived by his wife of more than 56 years, Alicia; sons, Chris and wife, Catherine Fay, and Damon Fay; daughters, Tina and husband, Jim Visscher, Diana Fay, Laura and husband Mark Lerdall; grandchildren, Michael Fay, Hannah Smith-Fay and Arianna and Marieke Visscher; sister, Carolyn Rossi; niece, Carol Yandle, and nephew, Glenn Pinto. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 2, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at Daniels Family Funeral Services, 7601 Wyoming Blvd., NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112. GALLEGOS -- DAVID Age 81. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great - grandfather, went home to be with our lord and savior on Wednesday, July 27, 2011. David was born on March 15, 1930, in Jemez, NM, and was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, NM.David served in the US army during the Korean War, where he began operating heavy equipment. He continued as a crane operator for decades playing a key role in building most of the major structures in Albuquerque and throughout New Mexico. In 1963, while building the Federal Building on 5th and Gold, he was highly recognized for heroically saving his crew, his project, and his equipment by grounding an out of control 900 lb. bucket of concrete, while having the awareness to stabilize his sinking crane. David retired from Sandia National Laboratories in 1996, and remained busy as a part-time Sales Rep for Zangara Dodge traveling New Mexico and surrounding communities.David was a devoted and unwavering Dallas Cowboy fan who also had a lifelong passion for auto racing, Do It Yourself projects, and keeping up with current events and world issues. David is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Lucy Gallegos, whom he met at the age of 16; sons, David Gallegos Jr., Tommy Gallegos; daughters, Sandi Baca and husband Jim, Carol Aguilar and husband Joey, Patricia Martinez and Denise Polaco; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Beulah Mora, Doris Zamora and husband Frank, Carmen Vanderpool, and Bertha Trujillo and husband Greg; and numerous other family and friends. David was preceded in death by his parents Ben and Reyna Gallegos, son Jerry Gallegos, daughters Jane Ghahate and Darlene Gallegos, grandson Tommy Gallegos, and brothers Clifford Gallegos and Louie Gallegos. David was love more than he could imagine, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. GARCIA -- CARIDAD ZURANO Age 89, a resident of Albuquerque since 1947, died Thursday, July 28, 2011 after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. She is survived by her husband, Alfonso Garcia; daughter, Marie Corinne Ballard; grandchildren, Mark T. Ballard and wife, Nicole, Caridad Merkel and husband, Ryan, and Thomas Marten; great-grandchildren, Isaiah Merkel, Hope Merkel, Alex Ballard, Mikal Marten, Chris Marten, and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She is also survived by step-daughters, Carol Kline and Kathy Garcia, along with many grandchildren and extended family members residing in Utah. Caridad was preceded in death by her father, Tomas Zurano; mother, Concepcion Pallares; son, Frank Thomas Garcia, husband, Frank A. Garcia, and brothers and sisters. Caridad was born on September 11, 1921 in Lorca, Murcia Spain to Tomas Zurano and Concepcion Pallares. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her. GARCIA -- ABRAHAM Age 76, of Glendale, passed away July 26, 2011. Abraham was born in Gallup, NM on October 7, 1934, son of the late Cadelario Garcia and Beatrice Lucero. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, and spending time with friends and family. Abraham is survived by his beloved wife, Viola; four children: Germaine, Rocky, Sandra, and Steve, all of Gallup; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Esther Gabaldon and Edwina Lucero. HOSKING -- GEORGE WILLIAM Lt. Commander George William Hosking, (Ret.) born in Cheyenne, WY May 29, 1923, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2011. After graduating Cheyenne High School in 1940, he joined the US Navy. He was assigned to the USS Dale and deployed to Hawaii. Unfortunately, his ship was in Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked Sunday, December 7, 1941. The USS Dale was hit, many injured, but no causalities. It was one of the first vessels out of the Harbor. LCMR Hosking was one of today's few remaining Pearl Harbor survivors. He received a Senatorial appointment to attend the United States Naval Academy in 1944, graduating Class of 1947. He was then deployed to defend our Country in the Korean Conflict. After the truce was signed in 1953, he returned to the US Naval Academy to teach mathematics. In 1947, he married Betty JoAnne Blickensderfer who preceded him in death in October, 1996 after 49 years of marriage. After retiring from active duty and going Naval Reserve in 1953, he moved his family to Albuquerque and began work for Sandia National Laboratories as a mechanical engineer with retirement in 1983. He became a published author writing about his military experiences in his book entitled "The Lad Who Went to Sea." ISBN: 978-1-4343-2954-7. He is survived by daughters, Jennifer Fritzges and husband, Frank and Susan Gonzales and husband, Arthur; three grandchildren, Bryan Maglidt and wife, Alicia, Sarah Gonzales, and Tommy Gonzales; one great-granddaughter, Ivy Maglidt; two brothers, Jack and Tim Hosking; and numerous nieces and nephews. His experiences, drive and support of his comrades have granted him the honor that he so deserves today. Services will be held Wednesday, August 3, 2011, 11:00 a.m., at French - Wyoming Chapel. TUCKER -- MILDRED IRENE HOLLINGSWORTH Born April 19, 1915 Died July 27, 2011 96 years of age, Mildred, the daughter of Sadie and Ernest Hollingsworth, was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Basil Simms Tucker. She is survived by her daughter, Marji Tucker and son Ernest (Larry) Tucker together with his wife Sherrie; grandchildren David May (and wife Cheryl), Amber Valliant (and husband George), Melissa, Carlton, Shannon Hernandez (and husband Chris) and Tylor; great-grandchildren, JT, Frank, Alicia, Ashley, Donovan, Caitlyn, Aedyn, Rhiannan, Rachael, Amanda, Aaron and Matthew; and great-great-grandchildren Alexa, Drake and Alenah. Mildred was a self taught pianist and organist. She developed an amazing cake decorating talent, making many beautiful wedding cakes as well an unique birthday cakes. She crocheted, knitted, tatted, was an excellent seamstress and made ceramics. Her daughter and granddaughters benefited from these talents. We wish to thank the staff of Vista Care Hospice at Lovelace Hospital Downtown for their loving care for both Mildred and the family and visitors over the time that she was in their care. WATTERBERG -- JOHN 1Lt. John Per Ellis Watterberg, November 20, 1915 - July 29, 2011. Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and above all cherished husband of Leah for 66 years. A lovely, gentle man, John was born in Minnesota to tall Swedish stock and served in the Army during WWII. He was an engineer with the signal corps across Africa and into Italy, where he contracted polio. Sent back to the States for rehabilitation, he met Leah Fox, his physical therapist, who always says she "got him when he was flat on his back and couldn't get away". Although his legs were paralyzed, he returned to graduate engineering studies and held a job as the engineer for radio station WLOL in Minneapolis at the same time. They left Minnesota for Albuquerque in 1951, when John was hired as an engineer at Sandia National Laboratories. He retired in 1979. John and Leah fell under the spell of the Land of Enchantment, spending countless weekends Jeeping in the outback, enjoying the southwest landscape. He learned to play guitar later in life and loved to strum and sing. He also loved technology, and had some of the first computers available. After retirement, he and Leah built their dream house in the foothills, where they grew a magnificent garden and enjoyed the panorama of New Mexico, watching the weather pass over the valley and reporting as a weather substation. John and Leah had four children, of whom they were extremely proud. John was predeceased by his son, Lt. Colonel Jeffrey John Watterberg, a pilot in the Air Force, and is survived by his wife; his other three children, Phillip, Kristi and her husband Ron Poland, Peter and his wife Tina; his nine grandchildren Aimee Soodan, Joshua Johnson, Jennifer Johnson Thomas, Jessie Johnson, Emily Watterberg, Sarah Skye Watterberg, John Allen Watterberg, Joy Petersen, and Jaqueline Watterberg; and six great-grandchildren. His family was his life, and in return he graced their lives with his warmth, wit, intelligence and beautiful smile. ZIEGLER -- PAUL WILLIAM My name is Paul William Ziegler. I was born in Norristown, Pennsylvania on March 31, 1946 to Justine and Alton Ziegler. Growing up in a military family, I moved around a lot, but finally settled in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, where I graduated from High School. Shortly after, I joined the Air Force to serve my country in the Vietnam War. After the war, I was stationed at Nellis AFB, Nevada, where I was eventually Honorably Discharged, and soon met the mother of my two children. We up and moved to Albuquerque, NM where I worked for Universal Constructors and built a wonderful 41 year career. I watched in complete joy as both my children, Jennifer Lynn (Ziegler) Kaase and Sean Paul Ziegler, grew to be "highly capable" adults. My daughter married Daniel Kaase and blessed me with two superb grandchildren, Ryan Andrew and Olivia Danielle, all of whom reside in Ft. Worth, Texas. My son married Michele Griego and provided me with another fabulous grandchild, Emily Alice. I wish to say good-bye to my 89 year old father, whom I loved very much. Take care of yourself "you old buzzard." I wish to say to all my friends, thank you for all the wonderful years you gave me, especially the love and support during my final few weeks. To my family, I want you to know that I am very thankful to have had you in my life and you could not have made me happier. I love you very much and I will always be with you.
