ANAYA -- Jose Francisco Anaya Sr., 82, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 12, 2011. Jose Sr. was born to Atanacio Sr. and Elvera Chavez-Anaya on May 21, 1928 in Albuquerque, NM. Jose Sr. proudly served in the United States Marine Corps; retired from the USPS; and Mayadormo at San Jose De Duranes for 20 years. Jose Sr. was preceded in death by his son, Raymond D. Anaya. He is survived by his beloved wife Maxine Anaya of 57 years; his loving children, Jose F. Anaya Jr. and wife Pauline, Jerry A. Anaya Sr. and wife Marlene and Rosemary K. Archuleta and husband Philip; his sisters, Trini Trujillo and husband Pat, Frances Sanchez and husband Ermineo, Loretta Chavez; brother, Atanacio Anaya Jr. and wife Susan; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous other family and friends. Jose Sr. will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. ARCHULETA -- Bonnie L. Archuleta passed away peacefully in her home Friday, March 11, 2011. She was preceded in death by her mother Helen Montano. She is survived by her father Hilario Montano; her husband Rufino Archuleta; her son Antonio Archuleta and his wife Becky; granddaughter, Kaitlyn; sister, Eloisa Montano; three brothers, Hilario Montano and his wife Ida, Danny Montano and his wife Lydia and Rudy Montano. She is also survived by numerous loving, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Bonnie will be greatly missed by all who knew her and whose lives she touched. A Rosary will be recited at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1860 Griegos Rd. ARMENDARIZ -- Todd Armendariz, born August 23, 1967, in Albuquerque, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 12, 2011. A veteran police officer, he worked his way through the department, achieving the rank of Lieutenant. Todd was known for his dedication to work and family as well as for his tremendous sense of humor, from which no one was safe. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, boating, riding ATV's, and spending time with family. In his short life, he impacted all those that came in contact with him with his courage, positive attitude and love. He will be sorely missed. Surviving family includes his loving wife Kristen; children Alix and Taylor; mother Jan Smith, Wayne and Shelby Webster and Karen Carroll, all of Albuquerque. Full law enforcement honors will be accorded Todd. Visitation will be held Monday, March 14, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and funeral services will held Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 10:30 a.m., both at Hoffmantown Church, 8888 Harper Dr. NE. BERNAL -- Maria, age 74, a resident of Albuquerque, peacefully passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2011 to go home to be with our Lord, Jesus Christ. She was born in Torreon, N.M. Everything will be missed about this wonderful woman, she will never be forgotten. We all love you! She was preceded in death by her three sons, Rick, Frank and Chris Sanchez. BRONNER -- Elizabeth (Betty) Bronner, a resident of Albuquerque, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ, Friday morning, March 11, 2011. She was born in Galesburg, Illinois, May 11, 1921 to Vern and Celia Anderson and was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Charlotte, Pauline, and Gloria Mary and her brother, Vincent. She is survived by her husband of sixty-six years, Robert Allen; daughters, Judy Moore and Diana Koester; son-in-law, Larry Koester; four grandchildren, Cameron (Jill), Alexandra (Calvin), Chase (Trisha), and Christopher (Alissa); and eight great-grandchildren. She loved to cook, loved playing bridge, enjoyed golf and enjoyed swimming every day at the YMCA with Robert and her friends. She was a member of Immanuel Presbyterian Church. Betty and her family wanted to thank everyone at Manzano del Sol Good Samaritan Village for their loving care. She will miss all of them very much. ELLIOTT -- George H. Elliott, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2011. George was born in Indianapolis IN. on June 28, 1923. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Pat "Patty to George" Elliott; daughters, Georgia Smith of Toledo, OH, Stephanie Williams and husband Bruce of Albuquerque and grandchildren; brother, Leo Elliott and wife, Lydia of Canton, OH. George was a World War II Veteran, entering the U.S. Army at the age of 18, stationed in England where he served with the 333rd Station Compliment for 29 months in European Theater of Operations. As an athletic instructor, he organized and instructed competitive sports, directed health building exercises, was coach and referee of sports and games. He was discharged from the U.S. Army in 1946. He moved to Albuquerque in 1958, and went to work for a small company which later became Gulton Industries, Inc. and later became Mark IV Industries. He retired from Mark IV Industries. As a young man, George was involved in many sports including baseball, tennis, swimming, bowling and golf. He spent many happy hours on the golf course with his friends, up until a few years ago. George was a devoted family man, loved his home and his family. We will miss him terribly. FRITZ -- Velten Frank Fritz, age 96, of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 12, 2011. Velten was born on July 1, 1914, in Albuquerque to Frank and Hilda Fritz. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marian (Hollerich) Fritz; three sons, Stephen (Marie) of Albuquerque, Philip (Judy) of Portland, OR, and David (Stefa) of Brooklyn, NY; three daughters, Jean Latham (David) of Rio Rancho, Mary Ellen Farrelly (David) of Albuquerque, and Teri McMillan (Michael) of Rio Rancho; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1932 and attended the University of NM. He rode horses for three years while serving in the US Army, 7th Cavalry Regiment at Fort Bliss, TX from September 1935 to September 1938. He graduated from the California College of Mortuary Science in 1941, and subsequently worked at Memorial Chapel in Santa Fe, where he met his wife, who was living there at the time. At the beginning of World War II, he enlisted in the US Navy and served as a Naval Armed Guard Radioman aboard US merchant vessels until his discharge in December 1945. Upon his return to Albuquerque, he worked for Strong-Thorne Mortuary as an embalmer and funeral director until he fully retired in 1987. He was a life member of the Heights Lions Club and the BPOE Lodge No. 461. Velten never knew a stranger and he would engage everyone in a conversation. He read extensively and could recall a lot of historical facts. He loved trains and planes and he was forever taking his children down to the Albuquerque Train Station to watch the AT&SF El Capitan and Super Chief trains arrive and also out to Albuquerque Airport to watch the planes land and takeoff. Velten will be interred at Santa Fe National Cemetery and a Memorial Mass is scheduled for Thursday, March 17, 2011, 9:00 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Church, 619 Cooper NW. GUNTHORPE -- Theresa J. Gunthorpe (Terry) passed away peacefully on March 10th, 2011 after a long battle with lung cancer. Terry's life journey began February 8, 1956 in Detroit, Michigan. Terry was a beautiful, proud, intelligent and thoughtful woman. She will be dearly missed. The former Terry Reed and Gary C. Gunthorpe were married July 2, 2006; one year to the day after their chance internet encounter and settled in Albuquerque. A devoted wife and loved by all whose life she touched, Terry is survived by her husband, three stepsons, six step grandchildren, two brothers, three sisters, five nephews, a niece and one great-niece. JACKSON -- Robert C. Jackson III Bob Jackson passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 13th, 2011 surrounded by his devoted family after a valiant battle with cancer. Bob was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on August 18, 1945, and is survived by his wife of 31 years, Sandi Jackson; mother, Lois Jackson; son Richard Jackson, and wife Rebecca; son Gavin Jackson, and wife Christie; daughter Monica Hickey, and husband Jay; brothers Rolly Jackson, and wife Pat; Rick Jackson, and wife Pearl. Bob is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Aaron Quintana, Zackery Rich, Brennan Cook, Katelyn, Kyla, Kenadie, Will, Julianna and Robert Jackson; sister-and brother-in-law Maureen and Louie Martinez; his niece and many nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert C. Jackson Jr. Bob was a graduate of the New Mexico Military Institute and the University of New Mexico, BBA, MBA. He was an Eagle Scout. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Naval Aviator during the Viet Nam War. Bob was dedicated to serving others and was a long-time Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant. He was active with Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation, serving as a Board Member since 1986 and as a past Chairman. He was active in First Presbyterian Church Foundation, Rotary Club of Albuquerque, New Mexico Planned Giving Council, New Mexico Estate Planning Council and also volunteered for several years with the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta in a number of capacities, including Launch Director. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time with his family and many friends. He will be deeply missed by all. Services celebrating Bob's life will be held Friday, March 18th, at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico. A reception will follow the services in Fellowship Hall. His ashes will be interred at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. KOONTZ -- Francis Clare Koontz passed away on March 11, 2011, in Corrales with her family at her side after a courageous battle against cancer. She was born on November 25, 1951, in Albuquerque, NM and grew up in Corrales, NM. She attended high school in Ft. Sumner, NM and received her bachelor's degree at the University of New Mexico. After teaching for several years in New Mexico and Arizona, she moved to Texas in 1978 where she operated the Koontz/Baylor Ranch in Montell, TX, for 15 years prior to earning her Juris Doctorate from St. Mary's University in San Antonio, TX at the age of 45. She worked as an assistant public defender in the US Public Defender's Office in San Antonio until her recent retirement. Clare was a beautiful person, a true "free spirit" who cared deeply and worked diligently for the rights of the underprivileged and who truly made a difference in making the world a better place. She touched many lives through her kindness and generosity as well as those with whom she shared her delicious creations from her kitchen. She is survived by her parents, Jasper and Ella Dee Koontz of Corrales; her brother, Jim and his wife, Marilee of Ft. Sumner; her brother Court and his wife, Anne of Corrales; her nephew, Clay Koontz and his wife, Lisa of Albuquerque; her nephew, Justin Koontz and his wife, Taylor of Lubbock, TX; his nephew, Jasper Koontz of Chandler, AZ; her nephew Courtenay W. Koontz of Corrales; two great-nephews, one great-niece and many very close friends. MARTINEZ -- Marcos Martinez, Jr. was called to the Lord on March 11, 2011. He was born on October 24, 1931 in Las Tablas, NM to Marcos D. Martinez and Eufemia Lobato. He worked as a coal miner and was a truck driver. He was also a musician/singer. He was preceded in death by his wife Sarah; brothers Mike, Frank and Jose; son-in-law Manuel. He is survived by his brothers and sisters: Bennie, Mary, Henry and wife Loretta, Rosie and husband Leo; his children: Eileen, husband James, Jenny, Sandra, Diane, Mark, wife Darlene, Pete, Doris, and Darren; 24 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. Gilbert was a graduate of Valley High School in 1957 and was an avid enthusiast in sports, hunting and fishing. SMART -- Tex Ernest Smart, born on October 25, 1946 in Tucumcari, New Mexico to Ben Smart and Lillie Louise Lynch Smart, went to be with his Lord on March 12, 2011. He is preceded in death by his mother, Lillie Smart and his brother, Rex Smart; and his beloved horse Stoney Sewell. He is survived by his wife, Sidney; daughter, Shawndee Kennedy, husband James; granddaughters, Alexandra and Presley; step-son, Jerry and step-daughter, Angela, husband, Riley; grandchildren, James, Katherine, and Emily; dearly loved pets, Sara and Stitch; sisters, Wanda Foxworthy and children, Casey Reynolds and Sherry and Ron Clark, Sonja Smart and children, Shane and Jennifer Hamilton, and Aspen Hamilton; sister-in-law, Nancy Smart of Utah; and nine nieces and nephews. Tex proudly served in the Navy from 1965 and was honorably discharged in 1969, and served two years in the Naval Reserves. Tex moved to Roswell, where he worked for the TMC bus company as a foreman for 17 years. Tex Smart was a member of the Roswell Jaycees, and held numerous offices including that of president. Tex returned to Albuquerque where he worked for Groendyke Transport, as a driver, trainer, and CDL instructor. Tex retired from Groendyke in 2009. Tex was a totally devoted follower of Christ and active in his church. SPRINGER -- "Mac" Macedonio R., lifetime resident passed away peacefully Thursday, February 10, 2011, after a short illness, surrounded by his loving family. Mac was a retired Baliff for the Second Judicial District Court under District Judge James A. Maloney and District Judge Philip R. Ashby. Prior to his service with the State of New Mexico, he retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Mac was a veteran of the U.S. Marines serving during WWII at Guadalcanal. He was a member of the American Legion, Veteran's of Foreign War, Disabled American Veterans, Military Order of the Purple Heart. He also belonged to the Institute for Certification of Engineering Technicians, American Society of Certified Engineers and Senior Certified Engineer Technician. Mac enjoyed fishing, oil painting, restoring antiques, playing black jack and poker. He is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Alfred L. Romero, Jr., father, Henry Springer, mother, Carmelita R. Springer, who were members of the pioneer Springer Family that settled in Old Town in 1862, and by his grandson Angelo Chavez. He is survived by his sister, Cecilia Romero, son, Michael, daughter, Marilyn and husband Bill, grandchildren, Damon, Rochelle, Devin, Vanessa, Aaron, great grandchildren, Chrystal, Joseph, Cyrea, Maya, Justin, Jr., nieces, Carmen Baca, Christine Romero, Rita Zamora, Carla Romero, nephew, Lawrence Romero, and eleven great nieces and nephews. A memorial service for Mr. Springer will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at San Felipe De Neri Catholic Church, 2005 N. Plaza St. NW, Old Town. A reception will be held immediately following at the Mission Church of San Jose in Los Duranes, 2110 Los Luceros Rd., NW. In a private ceremony, interment will be at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe. The Family would like to thank everyone at Princeton Place Nursing Center for the comfort and care given to Mr. Springer and would like to thank all of the dedicated Doctors and nursing staff at the Raymond G. Murphy Veterans Affairs Medical Center while Mr. Springer was under their care. He will be missed by his family and many, many friends. TSOSIE -- Patrick Tsosie, 47, a resident of Albuquerque since 1998, died Saturday, March 12, 2011. He is survived by his spouse, Stephanie of Albuquerque; children, Shay and Corey; father, Frank Tsosie; three sisters and two brothers; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends - all of whom loved him very much. He was preceded in death by his mother, Cecelia E. Tsosie. Pat enjoyed rodeoing, working on cars, woodworking, gardening, and spending time with his wife and sons. He also loved serving others. He graduated with honors from Southwestern Indian Polytechnical Institute. He was a member of the Native American Church. He also worshipped at Cross of Hope Church. He was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Services will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 10:00 a.m., at Cross of Hope Church, 6104 Taylor Ranch Road NW in Albuquerque. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE, 87107. Pallbearers will be Shay Tsosie, Corey Tsosie, Samuel Chavez, Harrison Lee, Stan Goatson, and Raymond Badonie. VOORHEES -- Jeanette B. Voorhees, age 80, went home to be with our Lord and Savior Sunday, March 13, 2011. Jeanette was born August 11, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois to Henry and Jeanette Borgersen. Jeanette was a resident of Los Alamos for 27 years, Las Cruces, and most recently a resident of Brookdale in Albuquerque, NM. She enjoyed traveling and loved her four legged friend Bergen. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Edward Voorhees of 21 years; and step son, Bruce Voorhees. Jeanette is survived by her loving children, Barbara Tegtmeier, John Tegtmeier and wife Kay, Linda Tegtmeier Eason and husband Steven, Phillip Tegtmeier and wife Alessandra, Janet Smith; stepchildren, Betsy Christensen and husband Dana, Ron Voorhees and wife Karen; twelve grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and numerous other family and friends. Jeanette will greatly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
