AYON -- Leroy Jr Ayon,(Brown), age 34, passed away on January 29, 2011 He was born on March 17, 1976 in Albuq., NM to Pearl Gallegos and Leroy Ayon SR. Leroy was a loving and wonderful man who loved his family and cherished his children. There was nothing he would not do for family or friends. His love for life will never be forgotten and he will be greatly missed. One of his favorite pastimes was having fun with his boys and spending quality time with family. Another one of his passions was to ride his motorcycle. Leroy is survived by his four children, Brandon, Jacob, Angelo and Orlando Ray; two brothers, Conrad and Oscar; and his sister Estela; two nephews, David and Conrad "BUBBA"; and his only niece Natalia; grandma Sadie; and numerous uncles, aunts, cousin and friends. His rosary and funeral services will be held at St. Anne Catholic Church 1400 Arenal Rd. SW, Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. and Thursday 9:00 a.m.

CHAVEZ -- Beltram Chavez, age 88, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Monday, January 31, 2011. Beltram was a member of BCSO, Batan Death March Survivor, he loved to dance and play poker. He is preceded in death by his son, Beltram Chavez and wife Demecia Chavez. He is survived by two grandsons, Paul Chavez, Eric Chavez; one daughter-in-law, Helen Chavez; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jimmy S. Chavez, Tony Chavez; numerous nieces and nephews. CHAVEZ -- Elvira Chavez (Nena) 1913-2011 Beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother went to be with the Lord on January 28, 2011. Vera was born in Puertecito NM in 1913 to Lorenzo and Agapita Chavez. She married Bennie Chavez on Januaray 1, 1934. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bennie; two brothers, Carlos and John; and one sister Rosa; Also her children, Richard, Steve, Eduples, Viola Felix, Alice Romero; grandchildren, Gilbert Felix, Peter Santillanes and Valerie Sena. She is survived by her daughters, Agatha Baker, Deluvina Martinez, and Dorothy Sena. She was especially fond of her grandson Randy, who was like a son to her and her great-granddaughter Nicole Thais for the loving care she bestowed on her final days here on earth. She is survived by 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Nena will be missed by all who's lives she touched. The never-ending pot of beans and chili(red or green) and those wonderful homemade tortillas that everyone enjoyed all those Sundays. All the quilts everyone's children were wrapped in on those cold winter nights. All the burritos, Love and advice she gave so freely. And who could forget those wonderful empanaditas. You will be missed by all our little Nena. Till we meet again in Heaven, all our Love-Your Whole Family. CLAY -- Gregory Scott Clay passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2011. Greg was born on February 9, 1960 in Colusa, California. Greg celebrated his life with many adventures. Greg owned and operated his own trucking company and was most recently employed by Brouwer Relocation Inc. as an Atlas Interstate Agent with his partner, Bettina Shearer. Some of Greg's passions were collecting John Wayne and Steve McQueen memorabilia, classic muscle cars, making custom cabinetry and wood working projects. He enjoyed the companionship of his horse and several dogs, fishing, motorcycling, hiking and the outdoors as well as many other activities. Greg also volunteered for the Town of Edgewood on behalf of homeless pets. Greg is survived by his partner, Bettina Shearer and son, Ben Errickson; his daughter, Danielle McCauley; sisters, Christine Esch and husband Mike, Lynnette Laye and husband Jared; Greg is also survived by four grandchildren, four nieces and two nephews, and also friends and loved ones. In lieu of flowers, monetary donations would be greatly appreciated and can be made at any Wells Fargo branch under the name of Gregory S. Clay Memorial Fund.

DOWMONT -- John Dowmont (Daddy/PaPa) age 86, Resident of Albuquerque for over 60 years passed away the weekend of the January 22 at his home. John served honorably for both the United State Navy and Army from 1942 to 1953. He retired from AT&T in the 1990's after 36 years of service. He volunteered his services by reading for the blind from 1991 to 2007. John is survived by his sisters, Wanda Wexler and Yadviga Dowmont-Hallsay P.h.D; eldest child, Delia Wanda Otero and husband, Patrick Joseph Otero; son, John-Michael Dowmont; grandchildren, Alexandria Francis Otero, Meliton Patirck Otero and his wife, Claire Irene Otero. John will be laid to rest at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM, with honors. Services pending.

GALLEGOS -- Ernestina Gallegos, 89, passed away peacefully on 1/31/11 surrounded by her family at Vista Care Center in Albuquerque, NM.. Ernestina was born on March 9, 1921 in Carrizo, NM (Gobernador) where her father, Lucas Martinez, homesteaded 570 acres which are still in the family. Ernestina was preceded in death by her husband, Belarmino; son, Robert; parents, Lucas Martinez and Josefa Trujillo Martinez; brother, Isaac Martinez; and sister, Alice Vicente. She is survived by her children: Lydia Arranaga (John), Ramon Gallegos (Leann), Alfonso, Olivia Gallegos (Reeader), Rita Jaramillo (Alonso), Lucas Gallegos (Shirley); 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Virginia Martinez, Rufina Lujan, and Bernie Ulibarri; She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Ernestina grew up in Los Ojos (Park View, NM) where she attended St. Joseph Catholic School. Ernestina met her future husband, Belarmino Gallegos, in Rosa, NM and they married on Feb. 24, 1945. They lived in Los Arboles, CO where their children were born and raised. Like many other families they were forced to relocate due to the building of the Navajo Reservoir in 1960 (moved to Ignacio, CO). Ernestina was first and foremost a mother and homemaker until her children grew up, at which time she went to work for the Southern Ute Tribe in 1966 where she worked in the kitchen and went on to work for Headstart, where she went on to earn her GED and completed several college level courses. She taught many young children, her favorite subjects all her life. After retiring there, she stayed home and was much sought after to care for children of local working parents. These went on to become very close to her and all called her grandma. She lived in Ignacio at the family home for ten years after Belarmino passed away. She then went to live in Albuquerque with her daughter, Lydia , for seven years until her death. Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at 7:00 p.m., at French Lomas Chapel. Rosary will be recited on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 6:00 p.m., at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Ignacio, CO. GARCIA -- Evangelisto (Evans) R. Garcia, age 97, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 29, 2011. He was born in Dona Ana, New Mexico on June 19, 1913 and was a long-time resident of Santa Fe before he moved to Albuquerque in 1994. He is survived by his three children: daughters, Pauline Garcia and Margaret Garcia of Albuquerque; and son, Anthony Garcia and wife, Lisa of Torrance, California. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Theresa Fuentes and husband, Robert Dell Angelo, Antoinette Fuentes-Knapp and husband, David, Antonio Garcia and wife, Maria, Dolly Romero-Wilberding and husband, Jason, Matthew Fuentes, and Frances Garcia; and great-grandchildren, Anthony and Michael Antonucci, Talia Dell Angelo, Brian, Lauren and Lindsay Knapp, Ben and Luke Wilberding, Esteban Sena, and Caige and Rein Fuentes. Mr. Garcia was preceded in death by his father and mother, Belzan and Juanita Garcia; his sisters, Adela Bowen and Crucita Daby; and his son, Evans. Mr. Garcia graduated from Hot Springs High School, then studied accounting at the LaSalle Extension University and attended New Mexico State University. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on April 4, 1941 and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre of Operations during WWII, participating in the Philippine Defense Campaign with the New Mexico National Guard 200th Coast Artillery and 515th Coast Artillery. These brave soldiers held off the Japanese against all odds, without enough food or supplies, and inferior weapons. Mr. Garcia, along with other New Mexico guardsmen, was captured by the Japanese Army on April 9, 1942 and forced to endure the infamous Bataan Death March. He spent 3 and a half grueling years as a Prisoner of War, held in several prison camps in the Philippines and was sent on a Hell Ship to Japan and held in Fukuoka Prison Camp No. 17 until liberation on September 12, 1945. As a result of his dedicated service to our country, Mr. Garcia received the following citations and decorations: Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star, American Defense Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star, Philippine Defense Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star, The Victory Medal, Good Conduct Ribbon with Clasps, Seven Overseas Service Bars, The Distinguished Unit Citation with Three Oak Leaf Clusters, The Bronze Star, The Purple Heart, and more recently, the POW Medal. As the Korean Conflict escalated, Mr. Garcia enlisted with the U.S. Army on June 28 of 1949 and was discharged on October 17, 1950. After the war, Mr. Garcia settled in Santa Fe and worked with the Selective Service System. His four children were born in Santa Fe and he often took them up north to camp and fish. He always enjoyed hunting and fishing with his many friends. He retired from Selective Service in 1967. Following his retirement, he was active in the VFW Post 2951 and served in many capacities, including Commander. During his tenure, the Post grew and prospered. He was also very active in the Bataan Veterans Organizations in Santa Fe and statewide, the DAV, and volunteered hundreds of hours at the VA hospital in Albuquerque. He was actively involved with his grandchildren, traveling with them and especially teaching them to fish. He was very proud of his grandsons Antonio and Matthew as they chose to follow in his footsteps and join the military to serve their country. Rosary will be recited on Thursday, February 3, 2011, 7:00 p.m., at French - University Chapel in Albuquerque. Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 4, 2011, 11:00 a.m., at St. Anne's Parish, 511 Alicia Street in Santa Fe with Father Leo Ortiz, Celebrant. Interment will follow mass at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Antonio Garcia, Matthew Fuentes, Fred Armijo, John Ojinaga, Sam Ojinaga, and Corky Ojinaga. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the New Mexico National Guard. Friends may visit French - University Chapel on Thursday, February 3, 2011 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VFW Post 2951, 307 Montezuma, Santa Fe, New Mexico, 87501. GIPSON -- Wanda Rae (Wells) Gipson, 84, passed from this earth on January 28, 2011 after a short illness. She was a member of the Church of Christ, Bosque Farms, NM. She was born in Cheyenne, OK on December 15, 1926 to Alex J. Wells (d.1976) and to Elsie (Coon) Wells (d.1996). The family moved to NM in 1936. Wanda married C. K. (Gip) Gipson on January 30, 1943 in Estancia, NM. Two children were born, Janie (1945) and Judy (1948). She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Dee (d.2000) and Bob (d.2005), Gip (d.1996); and daughter Judy (d.2006). Judy was married to Dan Seybold. Survivors are sisters; Ida Mae (Wells) Stevenson and Juanita G. (Wells) Pierce; daughter, Janie (Gipson) Thomas and husband Jim; son-in-law, Dan Seybold; grand daughters; Lisa (Thomas) Hobbs and husband Kevan, Terri Fenley and husband Greg, Tammy (Tripp) Marksberry and husband Clint, and Elizabeth Seybold; great-grandchildren, James, Cole, and Scott and his wife Erinn Hobbs, Tyler and Katie Fenley, Tara and J. D. Marksberry, and Cheyanne Tucker; three sister-in-laws, Juanita Gipson, Eris Gipson, and Sandy Wells and a large number of friends and extended family. Wanda was a classy lady whether being a department head at Kistler-Collister, "the bedding plant lady" at Rowlands San Mateo or Wanda's Wild Flowers, a business that she and Gip owned, operated and loved. GLIDEWELL -- LTC (Retired) Donnie D. Glidewell - loving, father and grandfather passed away after a heroic three year battle against kidney cancer on January 29, 2011. He and his wife Frankie, were high school sweethearts, married for 42 years. Don is survived by two daughters, Tanya M. Glidewell and Tiffany Glidewell Hall (Cristopher); and grandchildren, McKenna and Noah; sister, Loretta Payment (Wally) and family; Alonzo, Billie and Charles Young; the Mansours, Groszhans and Kochs. Don was born to Roscoe Glidewell and Vera Glidewell Erickson in Arkansas in 1948 and grew up in Washington. He was an alumnus of the University of Wisconsin - receiving Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Industrial Engineering and later earning a Masters in Systems Mgmt from Webster University. Don proudly served in the US Air Force for 23 years - rising from the rank of Airman to LTC. His second career with Sandia Nat'l Labs lasted 19 years, recently retiring in Dec 2010. Don was proud to work in International NonProliferation of Nuclear Weapons, having many friends around the world, traveling to six continents. He was an avid reader, history buff, loved golf and playing poker with friends. Known as BadgerDon to his football buddies, he always anticipated the beginning of football season. Don gave of himself - mentoring family and friends, and young engineers in his field - always retaining a sense of humor. GONZALES -- Ramon D. Gonzales, 79, loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 30, 2011. Ramon was born in Delia, NM on August 31, 1931. Ramon was a great cook and enjoyed making beef jerky. He could play the guitar and create beautiful gardens. Ramon enjoyed fishing, family gatherings, and talking but most of all he adored his family and loved spending time with them especially his grandchildren. Ramon is survived by his beloved wife Virginia of 55 years; his sisters, Mary Gonzales, Rita Tafoya, Antonia Page, Carmen Martinez, Alice Palafox, Beatrice Perez; one brother, Albert Gonzales; his loving children Ramon Gonzales Jr., Kathryn Gonzales-Smith, Patty Gonzales, Gary Gonzales, 22 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. HERRERA -- Stella Herrera, 73, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2011. She was born and raised in Cedro, NM and lived in Carnuel, NM. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. MORRIS -- Helen, 92, a resident of Albuquerque since 2006, originally of Waterbury, CT passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2011. Helen was born in Yonkers, NY March 29, 1918. She is survived by her brother Pete C. Morris and wife Irene of Albuquerque; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Stanley and Georgia Morris; sisters Mary Stiles, Angeline Laskas, Christine Morris; and brother Jimmy Morris. She was an avid reader of Plato, Socrates, Homer and Aristotle. She owned and operated a restaurant in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and sang in her church choir. PEREA -- Eduardo "Eddie" Jose Perea, age 91, passed away January 30, 2011. Eddie was born on March 16, 1919 in Albuquerque, NM to Emiliano Perea and Agapita Armenta. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Carmen; sons, Eddie and Michael Perea; his sister Prisicilla Perea; and brother Joe Perea. A proud veteran of World War II, he served in the South Pacific, and he loved to play his accordion. He is survived by his brothers and sisters: Dora Reams, Lucille Leal, Henry Perea, Evangeline Garcia, Gilbert Perea and Margaret Druhlet. VALENCIA -- Josie Valencia, age 91 beloved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister was called to eternal life with the Lord on January 30th, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years Mariano Valencia; her father Felix Lovato; and her mother Florinda Jaramillo; her brothers, Edumenio, Mel, Amarante and Solomon Lovato; She also was preceded in death by her son Mario Valencia, daughter Carla Valencia and grandsons, Grant Estrada and Gabriel Valencia. Josie is survived by her children JoAnna Matthews, Arthur Valencia and wife Georgina, Tommie Leyba, Joseph Valencia, Michael Valencia and Gloria Lovato, Elizabeth Valencia and daughter-in-law Christine Valencia. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 11 great- great- grandchildren; and one on the way. She is also survived by her siblings Sylvia Reed and husband Pete, Dolores Olivas and husband Manuel, Rafaelita Taylor and husband Robert, Alex Lovato and wife Ruth and Reina Miera and husband Joe. She is also survived by sister in laws Tillie Tafoya, Betty Salas and husband Ralph and last surviving aunt Delfina Castillo. Her flight is a motion of freedom and calmness. And is so beautiful to see. Let death be a butterfly with our loving Grandma soring in an existence of liberty and beauty that is to wonderful for us to comprehend. A rosary will be recited on February 4, 2011 at 12:30 p.m., at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Bernalillo. Mass will be celebrated immediately following the Rosary at 1:00 p.m. Interment of her ashes will be in San Luis, NM at a later date.

VLAHOS -- John Vlahos, 1924-2011, age 87 passed away on January 31, 2011. Born in New Bedford, Ma, and raised in NYC, he married Lydia Arzan in 1955. After the birth of their first daughter, Christine the family moved to New Milford, NJ where they raised two additional children, Mary Ellen and Alexander. The family moved to Albuquerque in August, 1977 where they have resided since. John was preceded in death by his wife Lydia; his parents; and many brothers and sisters. He is survived by his daughter Christine Dickmeyer, her husband Harry Konwin and grandchildren, Branden Dickmeyer, Justin Dickmeyer, Kyle Konwin and Camille Konwin; daughter Mary Ellen Vlahos Small, her husband Tom Small and children Brian Vlahos and CJ Small and son Alexander Vlahos. Visitation will be Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 7:00 p.m., and a Memorial Service will start at 7:30 held at Daniels Family Funeral Services, Wyoming Chapel. WRIGHT -- Cynthia Josephine Wright, Born in Chicago Illinois on May 5, 1959, to her father, the late James T Cox and mother, Mary Mildred Wallace Cox, passed away, after a courageous fight with cancer, at the family home in Las Cruces New Mexico, on January 31, 2011. Cindy graduated High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan, living with her sister Maryanne Erschen (husband, Matt); and her brother James Cox (wife Anne). After High School she moved to Albuquerque New Mexico, with her parents and attended the University of New Mexico where she obtained her Bachelor. While in Albuquerque she worked with her father at Deluxe check printers as a proof reader. She also worked at Sandia Crest in the restaurant, riding the tram to the top .On Valentine's Day, 1982. She was married to John Patrick Wright of Albuquerque New Mexico, and began working in the family business, Argyle Welding Supply. In 1984, Cindy and John moved to Las Cruces New Mexico in order to open another store. In time they built a building on a dirt road with no other neighbors at what is now Telshor Blvd. In 1985 their first daughter Morgen Wright-Pfeifer (husband Jeff) was born, in 1987 a daughter, Erin Wright arrived. In 1990, a third daughter Kelsey J. Wright was born. Cindy cherished the role of mother, wife and homemaker. She was always involved in her children's lives and school activities. From volunteering in kindergarten classes and field trips to selling pizzas, she could not spend enough time with her girls. For six years she drove her girls to Albuquerque every weekend in order to play soccer. She never missed a rehearsal, practice, game or performance. Cindy loved to read. She loved the days over 100 degrees when she could lay in the pool, listen to music and read her novels. She loved walking the beaches picking up shells to add to her collection. Mama Wright opened her home and heart to all the girls' friends. Most of all she loved her family. A viewing will be held La Paz-Graham's Funeral Home on Friday, February 4, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Services will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, February 5, 2011 at La Paz-Graham's Funeral Home located at 555 W Amador, Las Cruces, New Mexico 88005.
