SANCHEZ -- Wilfred Sanchez, 80, loving father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather a life long resident of Albuquerque, NM went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Monday September 13, 2010. Wilfred is survived by his life partner of 50 years, Antonia (Toni); his wonderful children, Wilfred Sanchez and wife Hsin Wan, Penelope Barber and husband Dave, David Sanchez and wife Lorraine, Terry Gow and husband Bobby, Yvonne Apodaca and husband Frank, Frederick Sanchez and girlfriend Jacqueline, Gilbert Sanchez and wife Martha and Charlene Alarcon and husband Jesus; 24 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three brothers; and three sisters. Wilfred was preceded in death by his parents, Federico and Maria Sanchez; his brother Herman Sanchez; and infant son Robin Sanchez. Wilfred was employed by Sandia National Labs for 35 years before retiring at 55 to continue his passion of farming. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and the great outdoors. Wilfred had a love for animals and was a great friend and mentor. Wilfred was known for his great sense of humor and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. A viewing will take place in at St. Charles Catholic Church, 1818 Coal Place SE. Thursday, September 16, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a reciting of the Rosary to begin at 7:00 p.m., Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday September 17, 2010 at 9:30 a.m., at St. Charles Catholic Church. SHAW -- EMIL SHAW: LABOR, CIVIL RIGHTS AND PEACE ACTIVIST. Emil Shaw, a lifelong fighter for progressive causes, passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2010 at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque from cardiac and related causes. He was 81 years old. Born in Vienna, Austria in 1929 of Jewish parents, he and his family were persecuted by the Nazis and came to the United States in 1939. His experiences instilled in him a deep hatred of Nazi ideology, racism and inequality in any form, and he fought it all his life. His radical background also led him to his lifelong striving for a better life for working-class people. A memorial and celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2010, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at Congregation Nahalat Shalom, 3606 Rio Grande Blvd NW, in Albuquerque (between Candelaria and Griegos NW). TAFOYA -- Josie M. Tafoya, 73, a lifelong resident of Albuqueque, NM passed away Wednesday September 8, 2010. She is survived by husband Eustacio Tafoya; two sons, Andy Tafoya and wife Martha of Albuquerque, Carl Tafoya and wife Rebecca of Albuquerque; one daughter Veronica Tafoya of Albuquerque; two sisters, Dolores Gonzales of Albuquerque, Minnie Martinez of Albuquerque; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at San Felipe Catholic Church on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral will be held on September 15, 2010 at 10:00 a.m., at San Felipe Catholic Church. BRUGGEMANN -- Karen Bruggemann, 74, resident of Rio Rancho passed away on Monday September 13, 2010. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Wyaneta Meyer; and her brother Kenneth. She is survived by her three children, Peter Bruggemann and his wife Linda of Chicago IL, Joanne Ruane of Fort Worth TX, and John Bruggemann and his wife Denise of Rio Rancho; Karen leaves four grandchildren Carol Rodriquez and her husband Roberto of Las Cruces, Jeremy Bruggemann and his wife Laura of Las Cruces, Richard Bruggemann and Michele of Albuquerque, and Seamus Ruane of Fort Worth; Karen is also survived by her four great-grandchildren Maria, Lillianna, Bella, and Brayden. She was a very special mother and grandmother. Karen's children wish to express their gratitude to their father Gary Bruggemann for his unwavering support of Karen throughout her life. Special thanks to Presbyterian Hospital and Hospice for their tender care. Memorial services will be held Friday, September 17, 2010 at Vista Grande Apartments, 4101 Meadowlark Lane SE Rio Rancho, NM at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a memorial tribute be made to the American Arthritis Foundation in her name. DAVIS -- Astrid A. Davis, 52, passed away on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born in Amsterdam, Holland on September 2, 1958. Astrid is survived by her daughter, Sonja Davis of Albuquerque; and her grandchildren, Shamya Johnson, Tyree Johnson, Jr.; and friend Angela Hawthorn of Albuquerque. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., at Calvary Chapel of Albuquerque, 4001 Osuna/Jefferson Rd NE Albuquerque. EVERETT -- Robert R.S. Everett, 81, Bob to everyone that knew him, passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 after a short illness. He was born in New Tripoli, PA., on August 14, 1929. Bob is survived by his wife of 56 years, Phyllis and their children: Mark and wife Danna, Marianne and husband Marc, Michelle, Monica and husband Lee and Shelly and husband Keith: grandchildren; Ashley, Tyler, Jessica, Jacob, Michael, Nicole, Scott, Stephen, Nicholas, Joshua, Sarah, Shayla, and Shannon: great-grandchildren; Sienna, Toren, Viktorya, Haylie, Connor, Jaylen, Adelynne, and Julian. He was a medaled and honored veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars and retired from the Air Force in 1971. He returned to college and received a degree in Electronics. He then worked at Sandia Laboratory as an Engineer and retired in 1995. A rosary will be held on Friday, September 17, 2010, 6:00 p.m., at French, Lomas Chapel. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2010, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, on the corner of Lomas and Tennessee N.E. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery and Mausoleum Chapel at 7999 Wyoming N.E. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic School.
