ELLIS -- Jane Van Atta Ellis, 45, died in the early morning hours of Sunday, December 19, 2010. A lifelong resident of Albuquerque, Jane graduated from the University of New Mexico on May 14, 1994, with a degree in health education. She endured the ravages of myotonic muscular dystrophy with dignity. Jane inherited a love of sports and medicine from her mother and her grandfather, Dr. John R. Van Atta, who established the first pathology and radiology laboratory in New Mexico. Lobo basketball star, Luke Longley, was a fellow student and a friend. Theresa Chisum, manager of the Quarters on Yale Boulevard, gave Jane a Denver Broncos scarf in recognition of her avid support of the team. Another highlight in her life was having actor Bill Daley and the late defense attorney, Mary Han, with whom she shared mystery novels, join her to celebrate special occasions. Although limited mobility restricted Jane's movement, she was interested in politics and voted faithfully by absentee ballot. She once wrote to former Congresswoman Heather Wilson, who had succeeded in winning a very close race that her brother had cast the vote that tied the race and that she, Jane, had cast the winning vote. On Wednesday afternoons, she volunteered at First Methodist Church and also took pleasure in the women's bible study group at Hoffmantown Church on Sunday mornings. Jane enjoyed contact with people and particularly enjoyed going out to dinner with her family. Jane was the youngest daughter of James Ellis and the late Mary Van Atta Ellis. Surviving members of her family include her father, her sister, Mary Ellis Clark and her husband, James Clark of Nashville, TN; Dr. William V. Allen and his wife, Sue and their family of Visalia, CA; Myrle Redmond and her husband, Collis Redmond and their family of Albuquerque, NM; and Dan Sisk and his wife, Kay and their family of Albuquerque, NM. The friends who illuminated her life and who will have extra stars in their crowns include Cody Wesner and her twin sister, Stormy Wesner, Sally Smith Grady, Crissy Grady and her son, Luke Sherston, Coral and Erica of Chez D'or Salon, Bertanie of Luxury Nails, Mrs. Carter Kirk, Hank Ellis, Marie Cain and her husband, Don, the Roessler brothers of Savoy, Seasons, and Zinc Restaurants, and her father's office family at Berger Briggs Real Estate and Insurance. A private family service will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2010, 11:00 a.m., at French - University. Please visit the online guestbook for Jane at: www.RememberTheirStory.com. GRANT -- Bertha L., 95, of Albuquerque, NM, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior, on Friday, December 17, 2010, at her home. Bertha was born January 18, 1915, in Trenton, NJ, to Joseph Lester and Alice Wilkinson. She was preceded in death by her parents, former husband, and her only son, Alan S. Grant, who died as the result of an accident in Albuquerque, in May 1989--caused by a drunk driver--with 13 DWIs on his record. The loss of Alan created an empty space in Bertha's life, as they were very close, and did so many things together. Bertha occasionally attended church at Hoffman Town Baptist Church. Bertha moved to Los Alamos in 1963 from Trenton, going to work for LANL, where she worked for four years, before moving to Albuquerque, in 1967, transferring to SNLA, from where she retired in Jan 1984. She enjoyed traveling with her friends, and getting together with her co-workers on a regular basis from SNLA--which usually included getting together at the many ABQ local restaurants for lunches--and especially desserts. Her more frequent friends included, but not limited to: Alice White, Virginia DeWitt, Kay Hoffman (for extensive card playing sessions), and Dorothee Senich. Berthas's wonderful home/yard in the NE Heights was getting to be a little much for her to keep up, so she opted to move into the Bear Canyon Estates Retirement Residences. Here she enjoyed the views of the Sandia Mountains to the East, and views of ABQ to the South--from her two covered balconies--from the 3rd floor of her building--picking it out during the construction stage of the facility. It was a beautiful/picturesque location. She enjoyed this lifestyle for about 20 yrs. The necessity of having a little more help, prompted Bertha to move into the Assisted Living area of Fairwinds, Rio Rancho in Dec 2009. Daniels Family Funeral Services will be in charge of the funeral arrangements, and entombment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, next to her son, Alan Grant. A Memorial Service, conducted by Don Hendricks, Lay Leader of the Dolores, CO UMC will tentatively be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at 7999 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM. Please verify the time with Daniels Funeral Services at 505.821.0010. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in memory of Bertha Grant, to Civitan International, PO Box 130744, Birmingham, AL 35213-9744--of which Alan was a long time member.

SANCHEZ -- Vivian M. Sanchez Auntie Viv there's so much to say We think of you day after day. We miss your voice and your laugh too And all the jokes and pranks you liked to do. It feels as if the laughter in our life is gone And I never knew we'd have to be so strong. Five years already, seems just like yesterday You were here to always stay. So young and taken way too soon I spend many hours alone crying in my room. I look forward to the day we will see each other again When its my turn to reach heaven. --Marlene Marquez
