BACA -- Estanislada (Lala) Dimas Baca, a long time resident of Albuquerque, passed away December 16, 2010 after a long illness. She was born in LaBajada, New Mexico November 21, 1916. Her husband David T. Baca preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister Dorothy Esquibel; three daughters, Regina Chavez and her husband Joe, Elizabeth Serna and her husband Morris and Nancy Encee; one son David E. Baca and his wife Arlene; ten grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Lala was a member of the Blue Army and a Parishioner of Saint Ann's Catholic Church. She was also employed at the Catholic Center for a number of years. Visitation will be Monday, December 20, 2010 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., at the Salazar and Sons Mortuary. The Rosary will be held Monday, December 20, 2010 at 7:00 p.m., at the St. Ann's Catholic Church, 1400 Arnal SW. The Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 9:00 a.m., at the St. Ann's Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. BEESWY -- Marilyn Beeswy, 87, a resident of the South Valley for 50 years, passed away on Tuesday Dec. 14, 2010. She was born on August 7, 1923, in Northwest Indiana to Anton and Beatrice. She is survived by three children, Cheryl, Melonie and Ron; three grandchildren, Gregory, Cheryl, and Jeanette; and three great-grandchildren Richard, Joshua, and Christopher. She was preceded in death by her husband "Jak"; daughter Joanne; and son Ryland. Marilyn worked as a restaurant waitress for more than 30 years at an establishment across from UNM on Central Ave SE, and a restaurant across from Lovelace on Gibson Blvd SE. She was known affectionately as "Mom", to her patrons. She will always be remembered by those whose lives she touched. BOEHNING -- Dolores Marie Boehning went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 13, 2010 at home in Eagar, Arizona with family by her side, just 6 days short of her 87th birthday. Dolores was born on December 18, 1923 in Youngstown, Ohio, to Joseph and Cecelia Zimmer. She moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico with her family in 1946, and resided there for 51 years. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 37 years, Albert W. Boehning Jr.; and brother Richard Zimmer of Huron, Ohio. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Dolores was a retired legal secretary, and executive secretary to the president of Mountain States Mutual Casualty Co. in Albuquerque. After becoming widowed, she moved to rural Eastern Arizona to live with her daughter in 1997. She was an active member of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Albuquerque and of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Springerville, AZ. She supported many causes locally, nationally, and world-wide, including various Christian and pro-Life ministries, animal humane societies, natural food cooperatives, and political action committees for conservative values. She is survived by her daughter Monica Boehning, Eagar, AZ; sisters, Eileen Lynch and Cecile Gerken, both of Albuquerque, and Benita Zimmer, Las Vegas, NM; brother Ray Zimmer (Barbara), Las Vegas, NM; and numerous nieces and nephews; Dolores will also be missed by two loyal family dogs. A Rosary will be held Saturday, December 19, 2010 at 4:00 p.m., at Risen Savior Catholic Church, 7701 Wyoming NE, in Albuquerque, NM. Dolores' funeral will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Church, 5415 Fortuna Rd. NW in Albuquerque, on Monday, December 20, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Mt. BRANEFF -- Mary Katherine Braneff, 51, died December 16, 2010 in Cal-Cam Hospital. She was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico and lived in Merryville, La. She was a member of Eastern Heights Baptist Church in DeQuincy and loved her dogs. Survivors include her husband, George Randall "Randy" Braneff; three sons, George "Duce" Randall Braneff II and fience' Emily of DeQuincy, Layon Braneff and Logan Braneff; daughter Ashleigh Braneff of Lake Charles; twp brothers, Rex Rice and wife, Debbie of St. Louis, MO., and William "Bill" Rice Jr., and wife, Paula of Albuquerque, NM.; one niece Kathleen; and two grandchildren, Tyler and Braylon. DUFFY -- John Philip Duffy, 72, passed away suddenly on Sunday December 12, 2010. John was born in Springfield, IL, on October 10, 1938, and grew up in Chicago where he became a loyal Bears, Cubs, and Bulls fan. In 1954 his family moved west to Albuquerque where he graduated from Highland High School in 1956 and the University of New Mexico in 1960. At UNM he was active in student government and president of his fraternity Pi Kappa Alpha. In 1964 he received a juris doctorate from California Western University. John loved traveling. He and his wife Ruth were always off on some new adventure each year. Their last trip was this summer when they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by visiting Boston and the Canadian Maritime Provinces. John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Ruth Ballenger Duffy, his children Dana Duffy Bowen of Albuquerque, Darin Sean Duffy and wife Jennifer of Denver, CO, Devlyn Eileen Duffy of Albuquerque, and his grandson Joshua Michael Bowen of Albuquerque. Services will be held Saturday December 18, 2010, 1:00 p.m., at Sandia Presbyterian Church 10704 Paseo del Norte NE. GILKES -- Orlan S. Gilkes, born November 25, 1920 in Barbados, passed away Wednesday, December 15, 2010 in Albuquerque, NM at the age of 90. Orlan is survived by his wife, Edna Gilkes; three children, Leslie, Melvyn, and William Valentine; as well as other family and friends who loved and will miss him. HEIMAN -- Lee S. Heiman, age 94, passed away on December 11, 2010 in Albuquerque, NM. Before retiring in 1977, Lee was a prolific writer and newspaperman. In 1940 he joined the staff at the Courier-Journal and Louisville Times in Louisville, Kentucky where he became editor of the travel and arts sections. He moved to Albuquerque in 2002. He was active in the Kiwanis Club of Albuquerque and was editor of their newsletter for over four years. He is survived by two sons and their wives; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. His memorial service will be held in Kentucky.

HENARD -- Ann Carolyn Henard, born May 23, 1936 in Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on December 15, 2010 after a long battle with cancer in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was the daughter of Ted and Knottie Tritt and was preceded in death by her brother, Ronny Tritt. Her final internment will be in a family plot at Calvary Cemetery in Louisville, KY. She first married in August 1958 to Jesse Davis Turley, III in Louisville, KY, a career military officer, and together they had four children; Terry Barnett (Austin, TX), Ellen Dufault (Albuquerque, NM), Jesse D. Turley, IV, (Tijeras, NM) and Ronny Turley (Poulsbo, WA). She is survived by her present spouse of 18 years, Silas H. Henard, retiree from the Bureau of Indian Affairs; She leaves behind seven wonderful grandchildren, Kerri and Jason Dufault, Matthew, Zachary and Amanda Turley, Alexis and JD Turley. Ann graduated from Nazareth College in Louisville, KY with a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology. After raising her children, she restarted her career at The Reference Laboratory Inc. in Albuquerque and retired in 1990. Besides family, she had many passions in her life. She acquired a pilot instructor's license flying Cessnas during the 70's and participated in the cross-continental Powder Puff Derby. She enjoyed traveling throughout the world with a special fondness for Hawaii and the British Isles. She also loved the game of golf participating in several associations and many tournaments. Big Bertha was her favorite club. A family and friends reception will be held at French Mortuary located at 10500 Lomas Blvd NE (near Eubank) at 6:00 p.m., Saturday, December 18, 2010. KEY -- Fred B. Key, age 94, of Albuquerque, died in his home, Thursday, December 16, 2010. He was a resident of New Mexico since 1950. Fred is survived by Doris, his beloved wife of 68 years; daughter, Diana Stewart and husband Chet of Albuquerque; son, Dr. Scott Key and wife Dr. Mary Key of Riverside, CA; brother, Robert Key of California; grandchildren, Rich, Bill, and Rob Stewart, Jonathan, Jordan, and Emily Key; 6 great-grandchildren. He was a long-time employee of the US Corps of Engineers and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, but his passions were photography and teaching. Fred served as a deacon and teacher for many years at Albuquerque's First Baptist Church. MEYERS -- Virginia Logan Meyers, 92, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, died Tuesday, December 14, 2010. A fourth generation descendant of pioneering West Texans, Virginia Lee Lewis was born October 24, 1918, in San Angelo Texas, to Adelia (Charlie D.) Beauchamp and Edward Colquitt Lewis. After her mother's death, five-year-old Virginia was raised by her maternal grandmother, Ethel Blanks Beauchamp Carruthers, on the family's ranch near Sterling City and in San Angelo. Shortly after graduating from San Angelo High School, she married her loving husband of 65 years, Harry Cook Logan. They lived in McCamey before residing in Big Lake where she nurtured her husband and two sons, Larry and Richard. In 1963, Mr. and Mrs. Logan moved to Breckenridge, Texas, where Mr. Logan was President of Citizens National Bank and was engaged in oil and gas partnerships. After his retirement in 1977, the couple traveled extensively, including several trips as representatives of the United States in former President Dwight Eisenhower's "People to People" tours to foreign nations. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. A resident of Rio Rancho since 1997, Virginia was well loved by one and all in her large retirement community complex where she served as the gracious unofficial greeter and hospitality chair. Her kindness, infectious energy and friendliness charmed her acquaintances, friends and family. Besides her great love for her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughters, she was fortunate in having three wonderful men - Harry "Nip" Logan, John Bettinger and Walt Meyers -- to love and who loved her dearly. She is survived by her devoted and compassionate husband, Wilbert H. Meyers of Rio Rancho; sons, Larry Lee Logan and wife Sonya of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Richard Lewis Logan and wife Mary of Victoria, Texas; grandchildren, Dr. Ashley Logan Drews and husband Karl of Houston, Texas, Melissa Lee Logan of Idyllwild California, Brad Lewis Logan of Cardiff, California, and Austin Lewis Logan and wife Sandy of East Bernard, Texas; great-grandchildren, Katherine Elizabeth Drews and Amy Logan Drews, both of Houston, and Emma Lynn Logan of East Bernard; step-children, Mildred Griffin and husband Jim of Albuquerque, Lynn Meyers Perkins and husband Jim of Topeka, Kansas, Jim Meyers of Louisville, Kentucky, Robert Meyers and wife Carol of Albuquerque, Carol Meyers Stewart and husband Tom of Los Alamos, New Mexico, and Jan Meyers Proett and husband Steve of Golden, Colorado; and extended family, Melissa Bentley of Albuquerque, and Alec Bentley of New York. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Harry Cook Logan, and second husband, Col. John L. MOREWOOD -- Linda L. Morewood, 72, a resident of Albuquerque since 1960, passed away at 11:05 a.m. on Monday, December 13, 2010, surrounded by her beloved family. She was born in Punxsutawney, PA on November 23, 1938. A graduate of Allegheny General Hospital Nursing School in Pittsburgh, she worked as a Registered Nurse for 40 years, retiring in 1999 from the Albuquerque V.A. Hospital. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Jim, and they would have celebrated their 51st anniversary on New Year's Day; her children, Jamie Anderson and her husband, Rick, and Jeff Morewood. She will be spending Christmas with Jesus this year. Her cremains will be interred in Santa Fe National Cemetery in a private ceremony. OVERMIER -- Betty Ann, 77, resident of Albuquerque, passed on to be with her savior on December 14, 2010, after a long illness. She was born and raised in Albuquerque by her parents John C. and Mary S. McNeely. She is survived by her husband, Jack C. Overmier, in a marriage of 61 years; son Russ and wife Laurie of Rio Rancho; sister, Joyce Bridenstine and husband Rod of Norman, OK; brothers, Meldrum C. McNeely and wife Becky of Albuquerque and Wayne McNeely and wife Patty of Albuquerque, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Betty Ann graduated from Albuquerque High School and was employed by several local businesses before and after her husbands' military service. She, with her family, enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling, square dancing, cross country skiing, tennis, and extensive traveling, both on two wheel and four. PENKA-WEAHKEE -- Bessie Penka-Weahkee, 86, born April 5, 1924 in Temple, TX. She and her first husband, Erwin Penka came to Regina, NM during his service in the U.S. Army, while Bessie took care of the home and family. After Erwin's service, the family relocated to Joliet, IL, where they lived for more than 20 years. When Erwin retired, they returned to Regina, NM, where they enjoyed each other for more than 50 years, until Erwin's death in the early 1990's. Bessie remained in Regina until she remarried in the late 1990's. Her second husband, Fred Weahkee died in 2009, at which time she came to Albuquerque, due to health concerns. She was a long time member of Cuba Baptist Church, and most recently had been a member of Mesa View Baptist Church in Los Lunas, NM. In addition to her husbands, Bessie was preceded in death by her daughter, Pamela Brookman. She is survived by her children, Gene Penka and Marshall Penka; nine grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., on Monday, December 20, 2010 with funeral services at 2:00 p.m., at French~University Chapel, 1111 University Blvd NE. RANEY -- Rene A. Raney, 53, passed away December 16,2010, following a short illness. At the time of her death, she was employed at Presbyterian Hospital NICU in Albuquerque and had served as a nurse in the Albuqeurque area for over 20 years. She was preceded in death by her parents James J. and M. Jane Raney. She is survived by three brothers and their spouses, Kent (Jane) of Calsbad, Kevin (Susan) of San Clemente, CA and Sean (Susan) of Dallas, TX; she is also survived by several nephews and nieces, Jedd (Daria) of Kansas City, MO, Caitlin (Brandon Estes) of Calrsbad, Jacob of Dominica, West Indies, Kelly and Kristin of San Clemente, CA, and Alex and Patrick of Dallas, TX; and two great-nephews. Rene was a caring nurse who worked with neonates. She also loved and devoted much time to the care of animals, especially her beloved dogs and birds. Since Rene bequeathed her body to Science Care, cremation and interment will be held at a later date. Rene would ask that donations be made to her favorite cause, The ASPCA, or to the local humane society.

RENTON -- Donald A. Renton passed away after a long illness on December 12, 2010. Donald is survived by his wife, Barbara Renton; four sons and their wives: Larry and Mary Renton, David and Susan Renton, Steve and Suzie Renton, and Tim and Paula Renton; and one daughter and her husband, Lisa Renton and Scott Redfern; and two stepchildren, Rebecca and Brian Branch; He also is survived by many wonderful grandchildren. Donald was originally from Michigan, where he met and married Judith Henry, who preceded him in death. They lived in California, Colorado, Montana, and finally New Mexico. Donald was married to Vicki Branch from 1989 to 1993, Vicki also preceded Donald in death. Donald lived in Rio Rancho and Albuquerque from 1979 to 1994. He will be missed profoundly.
