BASSETT -- Richard Ray Bassett of Alameda, New Mexico passed away peacefully on October 3, 2010 after dealing with cancer on his terms. He was born in Joplin, Missouri on February 19, 1926. At 18, he joined the Navy and was discharged at 20 years of age. He then attended the University of Missouri and earned his bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering. He put himself through school by playing in a dance band and played saxophone and oboe. Shortly thereafter he got a job offer to move to Albuquerque, New Mexico and work for Sandia Laboratories where he retired after forty years of service. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty years, Charlotte Mary Bassett. Richard is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Carter, and Gayle O'Dell; grandchildren, Brandon Carter, Haley Carter, and Colten O'Dell; and his brother Raymond Bassett. The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to The New Mexico Cancer Center, Presbyterian Hospital Oncology Unit, Kaseman Rehabilitation Hospital, Skies Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and AmberCare Hospice. Thank you to all of our dear friends, especially David and Theresa Romero and their children who were our Angels in Richards's time of need, and kept all his family in their prayers. BURNS -- Katherine P. Burns, 41, passed away September 26, 2010. Katherine was born April 15, 1969, in Taos, New Mexico, to Lawrence J. Crowley and Windy A. (Barnes) Crowley. She graduated from Tao's High. Katherine was the loving wife of Gregory A. Burns, a graduate of Highland High and UNM. Katherine passed away at UCLA Medical Center, Los Angeles, California, nine days after giving birth to two healthy, beautiful girls, Isla Belle Paloma Burns and Addison Katherine Geneva Burns. She is survived by her parents; and two sisters, Miya and Shanti also remaining to mourn Katherine's death are her husband, Gregory; twin daughters, Isla and Addison Burns; brother-in-law, (Greg's twin brother) Jeffery G., wife Stephanie and nephew Jonathan Burns, with whom Greg and his twin daughters are now living; Also, her in-laws, Samuel G. and Theresa J. Burns of Albuquerque; Other survivors include many aunts, uncles, cousins and grandmother. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating Katherine's life was conducted at the Celebrity Center, Los Angeles, California. Memorial will be followed by scattering of ashes in Hawaii at a later date. DAVIS -- Dr. Carol Ann Rymer Davis of Denver, CO and her flying partner, Richard Abruzzo, of Albuquerque, NM, were lost at sea on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 in an area of severe thunderstorms over the Adriatic Sea. Both were world champion gas and hot air balloonists and were competing in the Gordon Bennett Race which had launched from Bristol, England on Saturday, September 25, 2010. Carol was born in Denver, CO, on November 28, 1944, to Drs. Charles and Marion Rymer, both deceased. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, John C. Davis IV; two daughters, Heather Mead Davis Benavidez (Jody), and Marne Anne Davis Schmitz (Jon F.); and five grandchildren: Isaiah and Ryan Benavidez, and Margaret, Hunter and Tanner Schmitz. A woman of uncommon capacity and accomplishments, Carol excelled in a number of fields. One of Denver's leading radiologists, she received her bachelor's degree from Colorado College; her medical degree from The University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, and completed her residency in Nuclear Radiology at the Lovelace Medicine Center in Albuquerque, where she also began her career. Until her death, she was a partner at Diversified Radiology, specializing in women's health. By the time she was 18, Carol had climbed all of Colorado's 14,000 ft. peaks. She was an accomplished and avid skier and held the Senior Women's championships for Slalom, Giant Slalom, Super G and Downhill. Carol and her husband, John, began hot air ballooning in 1972 and were considered among the founders of the now-popular sport of hot air ballooning in America. Carol held numerous aviation world records and titles and had received the top honors given to balloonist and to all of aviation. She served 22 years in the United States Army Reserve as a flight surgeon and retired as a full colonel in 2001. Military honors and awards included being an Honor Graduate of the Expert Field Medical Badge School at Fort Carson, Colorado and the Meritorious Service Medal for her service during Desert Storm. She is also survived by her sisters, Sue Rymer Gordon (Brian) of Andrews, TX, and Ruth Rymer (Ron Borden) of Castro Valley, CA; a brother Dr. Robin (Marilyn) Rymer of Kansas City, MO; her mother-in-law Margaret S. Davis; and her sister- and brother-in-law: Marne Davis Kellogg (Peter M.) and Andrew S. Davis, all of Denver, CO. A memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 16, 2010, at St. John's Cathedral, 1350 Washington St., Denver. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the donor's favorite charity in Carol's name.

DUNCAN -- Aaron Wade Duncan, 56, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Monday October 4, 2010, in his home, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his sisters: Kathy Lucero and her husband Bobby; Deborah Totten and her Husband Gary; Lois Holden; Theresa Britt-Graham and her husband Stephen. nieces: Nicole Wilson and her husband Gary and their son Sawyer; Rebecca Melson and her children Israel, Kyce, and Benjamin; and nephews: Will Duncan, Ivan Melson; and Michael Totten and his wife Susan and their children, Victor, Angela, and Amber. "Wade" was preceded in death by his brother John Ivers Duncan; and his parents, Betty and William. Special thanks to all his co-workers and friends at Durham School Services and to all of our friends who have been so comforting in our time of sadness. At Wade's request there will be no formal arrangements. Riverside Funeral Home is handling the cremation. A celebration of "Wade's" life will be at Deborah Totten's home, Sunday, October 10, 2010. FISCHER -- Genevieve Cheever Fischer, 89, returned to our heavenly father on October 5, 2010. She is survived by her husband, Robert; three children, John Robert Fischer, Chris Alan Fischer, Patricia Ann Ellis and their families; one sister, Bonnie Heller; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. She was born September 30, 1921 to Emma and Joseph Cheever in Toronto, KS. She married Robert D. Fischer July 4, 1940 in LeRoy, KS. The couple set residence in Wichita, KS. In 1961 they moved the family to Albuquerque, NM. Genevieve (Jenny) was a talented artist and won ribbons for her Tole Painting and displayed and sold her crafts in boutiques. She belonged to Thimbleweeds and New Mexico Quilters Association. She was a loving, generous mother and friend and will be missed deeply. GUTIERREZ -- Bernave Gutierrez, Sr., an Albuquerque resident since 1966, passed away in the loving arms of his family at home on Tuesday, October 5, 2010. Bernard was born August 2, 1927 in Tucumcari, NM. He served his country from 1943-1946 with the US Navy on the USS Minneapolis CA36 Heavy Cruiser as a Seaman First Class at the age of 15. He was married to Freda for 51 years, she preceded him in death in 1999. He is survived by his eight children, Steve and wife Diane, Charlie and wife Susan, Bernard Jr. and wife Terri, Bernadette and husband Juan Trujillo, David and wife Vickie, Brenda, Carol, and Joshua and wife Charlene; He also has nine grandchildren, Victor, Stephanie, Toby, Bobby, John, Mary, Brandon, Amber and Brett; ten great-grandchildren, Alicia, Parker, Savanna, Marisa, Skylyn, Zimirie, Christian, Francisco, Corrina and Deliah; His fifth generation great-great-granddaughter was born on father's day 2010, Courtney Lea. He had brothers, sisters, in-laws and many life long friends. Bernave began his newspaper career at the age of 8 with the Tucumcari Daily News. He worked for the Gallup Independent, Las Vegas Daily Optic and retired after 26 years with the Albuquerque Journal. He retired in the early 1990's to care for his wife Freda. He raised and cared for all his children up until the day he passed. The family would like to thank the VA Hospital and Zia Hospice for all the care and compassion they gave to Bernave. Rosary will be recited Thursday, October 7, 2010, 7:00 p.m., at French Lomas Chapel. Mass will be Friday, October 8, 2010, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of the Assumption, Tennessee at Lomas. HAMRAH -- Richard Hamrah, 72, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Wednesday, October 6, 2010. He is survived by his sister, Sylvia McKee of Ft. Lauderdale; nephew, Michael McKee of New York City; nephews, Mike, Freddie, and George, Jr.; nieces, Susan Salinas and her daughters, Natalie, Sharon and Stephanie. Richard was the son of Zelma and David Hamrah. He was disabled from the age of 16 years and was residing at Rio Rancho Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. HUNTER -- Hilda May "Mickie" Hunter, a longtime resident of the Albuquerque area, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 3, 2010. She was born at home in Carbon, Iowa on September 27, 1923 to Dolly Armstrong and Robert Dicks but was raised by her stepfather, Red Gale. Hilda spent her youth in Carbon and attended school there. She later was a stay at home mom, raising and caring for her children. In 1969, she began to work at Polk Middle School in Albuquerque as a cafeteria lady until her retirement with APS. Hilda had lived in the same house in Albuquerque since 1953. She loved baking, sewing, socializing and spending time with her beloved family. At any given time you could find any one of her great-grandchildren at her house spending time with her. She loved telling her life stories to so many loved ones. It would be hard to find anyone else in this world that was as well loved as her. Hilda is survived by her two sons Ivan James (Jim) Hunter and his wife Vonnie, and Marvin Wayne Hunter, Sr.; younger sister, Reda Kay Hauptman; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. A visitation for Hilda will be Saturday, October 9, 2010, 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m., with a Funeral Service beginning at 1:00 p.m., at Daniels Family Funeral Chapel, 4310 Sara Rd. MASON -- Christine "Tita" L. Mason, age 76, beloved and devoted mother and grandmother, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, October 4, 2010. She was born in La Jara, NM, to Amadeo and Dulcinea (Salazar) Lovato, on February 23, 1934, and was a long time resident of New Mexico. Christine's greatest treasure above all else was her beloved family. For Christine there was no greater joy than spending time with her loved ones and even though she claimed to hate cooking she did it cheerfully and constantly for everyone. She did everything with her infectious smile, which she was never without. She also loved shopping, more so for those she loved than for herself. Christine was almost as generous with catalogue purchased gifts as she was with her love. She had a genuinely generous soul. Any one who knows Christine, also knows that her home like her appearance was always immaculate and beautiful, especially her hair, never a strand out of place. Christine was predeceased by her parents; her husband James "Jim" Mason; her siblings, Olivia De Herrera, Robert Lovato and Frank Lovato. She is survived by her loving daughters, Barbara Agahi and husband Manny and Viola Newman and husband Roger; her beloved grandchildren, Valerie, Arman, Kamron, Christa, Courtney, Cheyanne, James, and Jaxon; her great-granddaughter Megan; her siblings, Mildred Valdez, Eddie Lovato and wife Mary Jane, Darlene Sandoval and Randy Lovato and wife Angelina; her brother-in-law, Felimon De Herrera; and her sisters-in-law, Nora Lovato and Linda Lovato; and "her boys", Karl and Albert, whom she considered her sons; and many dearly loved nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. MURPHY -- Jacklyn "Jackie" Ruth Murphy, age 68, beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, peacefully passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2010, with her loving daughter, Debi and sister, Margie at her side. She was born in Gary, IN and was a resident of Albuquerque. Jackie is survived by her loving children, Debi Godinez and husband Trini, and Robert Sanders, Jr.; her precious grandchildren, Juanita Godinez, Angie Sprunk, Ronnie Wiscott, Jennifer Godinez, Genevieve Godinez, Mabel Godinez, Fenhue Sanders, Marlou Obregon, and Robert Obregon; 20 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Carol Graff and husband Bob and Margie Trammel and husband Bob; many nieces, nephews, and other beloved relatives and friends. Jackie was a proud and loyal member of the Seventh Adventist Church. Jackie will be greatly missed by all. REID -- Paula Jean Reid, 56, of Albuquerque, passed away suddenly on 9/29/2010. She was born near Pasadena, CA, on 9/4/1954 to Clyde Harris and Rive Pentz Harris. Paula graduated from the University of Phoenix with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services. She enjoyed working for the Albuquerque Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She is survived by her brother, Donald Harris; her sons, Daniel, Manuel, and Rafael Flores; and grandchildren, Faith, Alexandra, and Amber Flores. STANFIELD -- Donald Ray Stanfield was born, May 22, 1961 in Portales, New Mexico. After high school, Don joined the United States Navy and later returned to work in the oil fields of Southern New Mexico. He became manager of Specialty Foods in Tampa, FL. While in Florida, he met the love of his life, Cindy. They moved to Wisconsin where he began working for Wal Mart distribution center. He, Cindy, and their daughter Caitlin were transferred to Los Lunas. He studied electricity and wiring at CNM, and worked for both National Lighting Company and National Electric in Albuquerque where he was employed at the time of his death. He enjoyed the out of doors: hiking, camping, golf, hunting, and fishing. He was a passionate and an enthusiastic fan of the Miami Dolphins. Don had a gentle spirit, loved his family, and enjoyed working. Don is survived by his wife, Cindy and daughter, Caitlin of Los Lunas; father, Clyde Stanfield and wife, Barbara; brother, Richard; sister, Sherri Frayer, and niece, Stacia, all of Albuquerque; step sisters, Jennifer Quintenz and husband, James Berry, and Amanda Quintenz-Fiedler and husband, Steve all of Southern CA; his aunt, Gladys Thomas of Grady, NM and numerous Stanfield cousins; mother and father-in-law, Mary and John Thalacker of Eau Claire, WI; sisters-in-law, Lori Mickelson of Eau Claire, WI, Tamie Freseth of Altoona, WI, and Terri Hoover of Murfreesboro, TN; brother-in-law, John Thalacker of Menomonie, WI; nieces, Kori Mickelson, Holly Thalacker, Myssy Thalacker, Jenna Brandenburg, Amanda Thalacker, and nephew, Adam Thalacker; uncle, Glen Ezell, of Roswell, NM; aunt, Glenna Smith and husband, Bill of Daytona Beach, FL; and cousin, Brent Smith-Casanueva and wife, Valarie of Albuquerque.
