BAZAN -- John J. Bazan, Loving father and grandfather, passed away in his home on Tuesday, August 10, 2010. He was surrounded by his family and passed peacefully. BENTHEIN -- Ralph F. Benthein, Jr., 74, a resident of Albuquerque, NM was called to his heavenly home on Wednesday, August 11, 2010. He was born October 9, 1935 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin and came to New Mexico in 1987. Ralph was retired and enjoyed exercising his gift of putting a smile on other's faces. He never met a stranger. Ralph is survived by his loving wife and best friend Diana of Albuquerque; his children Deborah (Peter), Lisa, and Jeff all of California, Amanda (Rob)of Plover, Wisconsin; brothers, Randall and Robert and sister Rose all of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, and eight grandsons. A Celebration Service is scheduled at First Baptist Church of Rio Rancho on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. A memorial service and interment of his remains will take place Saturday, October 9, 2010 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. BURTON -- James "Mike" Michael Burton, 49, of Statesville, NC, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at his home. He was born September 22, 1960 in Albuquerque, NM and was the son of Harold Tracey Burton of Albuquerque, NM and the late Lucille (Susie) Ham Burton. He was a graduate of Ruidoso High School in Ruidoso, NM and had been employed by L.T. Mechanical of Charlotte as a Journeyman Plumber. On November 15, 1998 he was married to Paula Pesits Burton. Mike attended First Presbyterian Church and was an avid fly fisherman. His favorite fishing spot was the Conejos River in Southern Colorado. He and his wife were members of the Statesville Shag Club. He loved spending time with his wife and pets and nephew Timothy more than anything. Loomis, Madison, Lorelei, Sage, Tess and Calliope will miss their dad very much. In addition to his wife and father, Mike is survived by one sister, Stacey Burton; and one brother, Ronald Burton and wife, Deborah; nephew's Simon and Alex McQuade, all of Albuquerque, NM. A memorial service will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Steve Scott and Rev. Grant Sutphin officiating. CHAVEZ -- Joan A. Milkey Chavez. After a courageous battle with cancer, Joan A. Milkey Chavez passed on to a more peaceful place. She was preceded in death by her father, Edwin Milkey; son, Chris. Survivors include her husband, Freddy; son, Alfred of the family home; granddaughter, Adrian of Espanola; mother, Dorothy Milkey; sisters, Mary May and husband, Ernie, Gini Milkey and Sue Minard and husband, Bill; numerous nieces and nephews; many friends and former students; and extended Chavez family. Joan was an educator for over 36 years in Albuquerque, teaching at John Adams, Alamosa and Park View Baptist. She was always ready to tutor those who asked for help. Children, their achievement and future, were utmost to her. A life-time Girl Scout and leader, 4-H leader and very active in community Little League was her life. A graduate of UNM Law School, she passed her bar on May 18, 1980. To her credit, she also had her Master's Degree in Math. She was able to attend her 45th High School Reunion in Vermont this past June. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 15, 2010, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Holy Family Catholic Church. CHRISTOPHER -- John Addis Christopher, Jr. (Buddy), age 60, a native of Albuquerque, died of a heart attack at his home in Sunland, California on July 10, 2010. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Mae Seekamp of 39 years; a son, Matthew Caine Christopher and his wife Susan; grandsons, John Addis Christopher III and Robert Henry Christopher, of Castaic, California; He is also survived by his daughter, Anna Kathleen Ryan; granddaughter Carys Rose Ryan; and mother-in-law Mavis Seekamp also of Sunland. He graduated from Sandia High School in 1968, and attended Life Bible College in Los Angeles. He was drafted in the last call for the Viet Nam conflict in 1974, and served in Okinawa in a military intelligence unit. Buddy was employed by AT&T/Lucent and retired after 30 years of service. At the time of his death he was a Starter and "Mayor" of Angeles National Golf Club. Buddy is also survived in Albuquerque by his parents, John Addis, Sr. and Pauline McClain Christopher; His brother, Warren and his son and family; his sister, Cindy Johns and her husband, Willie Johns, and their two children; and sister Susan Taylor and her husband, Glenn Taylor, and their two sons, all of Albuquerque, and a host of relatives. Funeral services for his California family and friends were held on July 16, 2010 at the Christian Assembly Church in Eagle Rock, California. ERICSON -- Jeanne S. Ericson, 85, left us August 8, 2010. Jeanne was born June 28, 1925, in Dallas, TX to John and Erna Mae (Kepke) Stanley. She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church for many years. Jeanne Stanley married Eldon A. Ericson on January 23, 1944. During their 57 years of marriage, they raised five children of their own, and love-adopted innumerable others that became part of their lives. Jeanne is survived by her sons, Eldon Albert Ericson, Jr. of Albuquerque, NM, Douglas and his wife, Kelly of Corona, CA; daughters, Carol Schmitter and her husband, Bob of Hempstead, TX, Susan Ericson of Santa Fe, NM, Kristia Hutchinson and her husband, Ken of Honolulu, HI; grandchildren, Kari, Eric, Trey, Michael, Blake, Stevie, Kaycee, Amanda and Zachery; great-grandchildren, Brittany, Lauren, Garrett, Tyler, Lily, and Keith; great-great grandchild Jamison. FOLLOWELL -- Robert W. "Bob" Followell; born in Pampa, Texas July 12, 1943, and went to be with the Lord, August 12, 2010, in Tijeras, New Mexico. He received his Bachelor's degree from West Texas State University in Business Administration. He retired in 2003 after a 37 year career with J. C. Penney Company as a store manager. Preceding Bob in death are his parents, Dale & Dorothy Followell, and his son, Chris Shuler. He is survived by his daughter, Kelli (Bill) Crawley; his son Richard Followell; his daughter Karen (Ron) Marler; and his son Mike (Pam) Leydig; his sisters, Judy Wilkerson and JoDale (Jimmy) Weatherbee; six grandchildren, B. J., Sarah, Rebekah and Mary Crawley, Christopher and Matthew Marler; and two great-grandchildren, Bella Sue and Brycen Wayne Crawley. FREDERICK -- Dr. Harold T. Frederick, 81, a resident of Placitas since 2005, died Saturday, August 7, 2010. He is survived by his children, Teresa L. Shull and husband Allen of Placitas, Matthew J. Frederick and wife Stephanie Yee of San Carlos, CA, Scott Merrill of Rocklin, CA, and Cathy Berry and husband Joseph of Lawrenceville, GA; grandson, Adam; and other relatives and friends. Dr. Frederick was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia, on October 31, 2009; and son, Christopher Paul Frederick. He was a long time physician in Downey and Bell Gardens, CA. until his retirement in 1997. Since his retirement he enjoyed playing with and repairing computers and listening to classical music. He also enjoyed volunteering at the computer center at St. Martin's Hospitality Center. Dr. Frederick was a loving father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. GARCIA -- Vada Rheanne Garcia February 6, 2010 - August 11, 2010 Our little angel left us to go home to heaven on August 11, 2010. She was born to Rachel Lewis and Isaac Garcia on February 6, 2010. The little time that was granted to us was very precious and memorable. She was loved by many and will never be forgotten. HOLT -- Joseph M. Holt Jr. passed away in Los Alamos, NM on July 27, 2010, following a long illness. Mr. Holt grew up in San Antonio where he and his family were long-time members of the Central Christian Church. After graduating from South San Antonio High School in 1948, he received his Bachelors of Science in Physics from Trinity University and Masters of Science from Texas A&M University. In 1954, Mr. Holt married his long time sweetheart Sally Ann Orth, also of San Antonio. Mr. Holt then served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. Mr. Holt was also a Master Mason in the Anchor Lodge 424 in San Antonio TX. In 1957, Mr. and Mrs. Holt moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico where he began a distinguished career of over 38 years as a scientist at Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory (later to become Los Alamos National Laboratory). Much of his work there focused on the defense activities of the United States. During Mr. Holt's 53 years in Los Alamos he was a devoted public servant, serving on the Board of the Pajarito Acres Home Owners Association, the Los Alamos County Transportation Board, as the Captain/Troop Commander of Troop 4 of New Mexico Rangers in during the 1970's, and as a member of the Los Alamos Citizens Band Radio Club and Search and Rescue. Mr. Holt is survived by his devoted wife Sally; brother and sister-in-law Bill and Margaret Ann Holt of Fredericksburg, VA; son and daughter-in-law Robert and Shari Holt of Oxford MS; son and longtime companion William Holt and Gary Humbarger of San Francisco, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 16, 2010 at the Christian Church, 92 East Road, Los Alamos, NM. KEAR -- Lee Roy Kear Jr., was born August 28, 1928 in Clayton, NM. He died on August 3, 2010 at the local VA Hospital. He was preceded in death by parents Lee and Venita Kear; and brother Richard Kear. He is survived by wife Clara; and daughter Carol Romero, her husband Fred and their daughter Reese; brothers, Frank, Paul and wife Yvonne, Tom and wife Terry and Rodney and wife Cheryl; sisters, Thelma Oliver and Pauline Romine. MARSHALL -- Anna Marie Marshall (Chavez), age 61, of Albuquerque passed away on August 12, 2010 following a lengthy illness. Anna Marie was born on February 15, 1949 in Albuquerque to the late Claudio and Esperanza (Hope) Chavez. In addition to her parents, Anna Marie was preceded in death by her brothers, Sonny, Joe Elfego, Leo, and Paul. She is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Ron Marshall; sisters, Alice Chavez, Sadie Kleinstiver (Harv), and Catherine Benavidez (John); brothers, Gilbert, Michael, and Fred, all of Albuquerque. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren. Anna Marie was a longtime employee of Blake's Lota-Burger, starting in 1976 as an assistant manager and retiring in 1998 as area supervisor. She was also a member of VFW Post 401 Ladies Auxiliary, DAV (National) and also volunteered at the VA Hospital patient bingo. Because of her humble and caring disposition, she was truly loved by her family and friends. Her positive demeanor was an inspiration to all. Because of her faith in God and belief that there is good in all of us, she was the role model we all aspire to be. She took a great deal of pride in all her family, but had a special place in her heart for her four precious godchildren, Cesar Lueras, Susanna Lueras, Alfred Chavez, and Jonathon Rosas. ORTIZ -- Augustina (Luna) Ortiz, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at the age of 92. She was born on May 5, 1918 in Puerto De Luna, NM. Augustina was a long time member of the Carmelitas. She was preceded in death by her son, Richard Ortiz, Sr.; grandson, Wilfred Lucero, Jr.; son-in-law, Wilfred Lucero, Sr.; and three brothers. Augustina is survived by her husband of 64 years, Domingo Ortiz; her children, Andrea Lucero, Lauterio Ortiz and wife Linda, Robert Ortiz, Rosie Gonzales and husband Ben, Patricia Trujillo and husband Jerry, Ronald Ortiz and wife Jackie; daughter-in-law, Imelda Ortiz; two sisters; two brothers; 22 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra; daughter-in-law Marian; three grandchildren, Katy Dambrino, Kasey and Angela Pavioni; four great grandchildren, Shane and Demi Dambrino, Nikoli Pavioni and Jazmyne Frodgue; brother, Father Robert Palladino of Sandy, Oregon; sisters-in-law, Sister Francis Clare Pavioni of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Margaret Juliana of Oakley, California; numerous nieces and nephews. Like her mother, Mrs. Pavioni was born in Albuquerque. She attended Business College after graduating from St. Mary's High School and met her husband while working as a bookkeeper for Super Service Station. She later did similar work for her brother Horace at Automotive Electrical Service and for her husband at Rino's Wheel Alignment. She was a volunteer for many years at Barelas Senior Center. She loved all spectator sports and was an avid fan of the Lobos since the 1930's. She was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Parish. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, August 15, 2010, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Daniels Family Funeral Services Palm Chapel, 1100 Coal Ave. SE. Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, August 16, 2010, at Immaculate Conception Parish. SHAW -- Gordon Shaw, M.D. ("Gordie"), of Scottsdale, AZ and Albuquerque, NM, formerly of Schererville, IN passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 after a brief illness, 20 days short of his 90th birthday. Gordon was born on August 31, 1920 to Esther and Kalman Shaw of Toronto, Canada. Gordon is survived by the love of his life for 56 years, Verla. He is also lovingly survived by his four children and their spouses: Rachelle Shaw, D.D.S. and Daniel Faber; Pamela and Thomas Lawson, Colin Shaw D.M.D. and Danielle Panter, and David Shaw, D.O. and Laurie Gordon, D.D.S. Gordon's pride and joy were his 11 grandchildren: Nathaniel, Jeremy, and Zachary Lawson; Ari, Levi, and Maya Shaw-Faber; Jennifer and Adam Shaw; and Caleb, Libby, and Eliana Shaw. Gordon's education at Washington University of St. Louis was interrupted by World War II. During the war he served as a bacteriological warfare researcher for the Canadian army. Gordon graduated from the University of Toronto School of Medicine in 1953. He had a diverse career as a physician. He was a board-certified pathologist, coroner, and on the staff at Washington University hospital. He earned a masters degree in public health. He practiced for many years in hospitals in northwest Indiana. Gordon finished his career in private practice in Ottawa, IL. After a 45-year career, he retired in 1998. Judaism was always at the center of his life. Gordon was a member of several congregations including B'nai Israel in Albuquerque. He was active in B'nai B'rith and visited Israel. Gordon kveled at the b'nai mitzvot of eight of his grandchildren. Gordon's interests were following politics and current events. A dedicated Democrat, he was always up for a good political discussion. Late in life, Gordon took up golf and always enjoyed playing with his sons and grandsons. He never missed a party and enjoyed hosting parties. He was an avid reader, a world traveler, and concerned about his fellow humans. Most of all, he loved his family. His compassionate heart will be missed. Services will be held at B'nai Israel, 4401 Indian School Rd. NE, Albuquerque, NM, at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 15, 2010. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery, 700 Yale Blvd SE. A memorial service will be held in Scottsdale at a later date.
