ALVARADO -- Mary L. Alvarado, 78, resident of Albuquerque since 1973, passed away after a short illness on July 11, 2010. She is survived by her sons, Nick and wife, Betty, Greg and wife, Cheri, and David and wife, Marina; eight grandchildren: David, Adrienne, Lara, Adam, Michael, Chris, Luis and Eduardo; extended family members including Nick Lucero and family and Amelia Diego and family and friends through the military. She was preceded in death by her husband, TSGT George Alvarado USAF in 1983. Mary retired from Albuquerque TVI (now CNM) after many years of service. She was active in her community as a member of TOPS, volunteering with Kirtland AFB, an active member of the Red Hat Society, a local book club, a knitting group, and the Air Force Widows Club. She made many wonderful friends during her years with these organizations. Mary was a kind, outgoing, fun-loving person who will be dearly missed by all who knew her. BROWN -- Odelia Maria Brown, age 85. Was born on April 18, 1925, She peacefully passed away on July 11, 2010, to go home to the Lord. She was a life long resident of New Mexico,and an active member of the Catholic church. She was a loving, giving, hard working, happy, daughter, sister, aunt of four generations, wife, mother, grandmother of three generations, and a good friend to all. She lived a happy funfilled life. CHRISTENSEN -- Jerry L. Christensen, age 55, beloved son, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away Monday, July 12, 2010. He was a life long resident of Albuquerque. Jerry was an avid bicyclist who loved NASCAR and had a zest for life. He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald LaVern Christensen. Jerry is survived by his loving mother, Rose Hinkle and husband James of Sandia Pueblo; his best friend and former wife, Kay Marie Lane; his children, Erica Monet Christensen of California, Danielle and Aaron James Christensen both of Albuquerque; three grandchildren, Taylor Wooten, Aaron James Christensen Jr. and Brian Cayden Thornton, Jr.; his sisters, Janet Rushbrook and Joan Sullivan and husband Carl; his nieces, Christina Grice and Carolyn Williams; numerous other relatives and a host of friends. Jerry will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those whose hearts he touched. FRAZIER -- Andrew A. Frazier, age 34, a resident of Albuquerque tragically passed away on Wednesday night, July 7, 2010 due to an unfortunate accident. He was born in Albuquerque, NM and graduated from Los Lunas High School in 1994. Andrew was a great football star and MR popularity at Los Lunas High School. Andrew had a loving heart and enjoyed spending time with his two sons, Devin and Derik. He had a victorious racecar driving career. Winning many races and championship at Duke City Raceway and other near by dirt tracks. He had a passion for racecars and a need for speed. He loved fishing, boating, and enjoying Elephant Butte Lake. His amazing kind heart and his unique laugh will be missed by all. He was preceded in death by his mother Emily S. Frazier and survived by his two sons, Devin and Derik; and daughter Deanderea; his father Jerry R.; two brothers, Jerry J. and Randall; sister Wendy; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. HERNANDEZ -- Antoinette Marie Hernandez, 95, passed away July 12, 2010 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Antoinette was born in New York City, NY on February 27, 1915 to Michael Angelo and Antoinette (Fiorello) Lettieri. Antoinette lost her mother when she was only 40 days old to influenza. Until she was nine years old and went to live with her father, Antoinette lived in different foster care homes, but mainly she lived with one Italian family. Antoinette went to school in Brooklyn, New York. At the age of 24, she met her husband at the Roseland Ballroom where she would go dancing with her brother Mike, and his wife, Sophie. They married in Brooklyn in 1939 and their son, Michael was born in 1941. The family moved to Los Angeles in 1955 and then to Albuquerque in 1980. Antoinette worked as a seamstress, sewing everything from leather gloves and children's shoes to swimsuits, sportswear and lingerie. She was preceded in death by her husband, "Miguel" Angelo; and grandson, Ryan Anthony. She is survived by her son, Michael Anthony and his wife, Katherine; grandson Loren Anthony; granddaughter Krista Doherty and her family; a nephew Louis Lettieri; and niece Carol Lettieri and her husband. JENSEN -- Robert M. Jensen, 84, resident of Albuquerque since 1979, passed away July 11, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruth; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Doyle and Jan Spahr of Nebraska; brother-in-law, Keith Spahr of Colorado; and many nieces and nephews. Robert was employed by DeVore Aviation Corp. as an Aircraft Electrical Engineer. He was an FAA Designated Engineering Representative for 39 years. Robert was an Elder and a Deacon in the Presbyterian Church. Cremation has taken place. JOHNSON -- Kathryn Elizabeth Johnson of Albuquerque passed away Saturday, July 10, 2010 after a short illness. She will be remembered as being vibrant and happy to the very end. A perpetual optimist, the world will be a sadder place without her to brighten it for us. Kay loved to travel, and in her travels, she took up residence in several southwestern states. She developed many lifelong friendships during her travels; by these friends she will be loved, remembered and missed. She is survived by her brother Russell and wife Jean Hedman of Bremerton, WA; son Gerald and wife Theresa Johnson of Albuquerque, NM; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and sisters-in-law. She was preceeded in death by her parents, Harold and Verna Hedman; four brothers, Harold, Charles, James, and Wallace Hedman; her daughter, Pamela Johnson; and most recently, by her beloved cat Lucy. She goes now to join those who have gone before her and to prepare a place for those she has left behind. Godspeed, beloved sister and mother. Thank You for brightening our lives. LEWIS -- Grace Ann Lewis, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away unexpectedly from complications after surgery on Sunday, July 11, 2010 with her family by her side. Grace was preceded in death by her mother and father, Evelyn M. Lewis and Floyd E. Lewis, and her nephew James Freed. Grace is survived by her sisters, Jean M. Conner and husband Roy, Linda L. Olson and husband Craig "Oly", and Mary Deborah Knauber; brothers, Michael E. Lewis, David W. Lewis and wife Kay Schumacher, and Stephen F. Lewis; brother-in-law, Lee Knauber; niece Catie Knauber and many other family members. Grace Ann was born April 12, 1945 in Pennsylvania and moved to New Mexico with her family when she was two years old. She grew up in Albuquerque and lived for many years in Costa Mesa, CA before returning to Albuquerque. Grace overcame many challenges and made many friends throughout her life. She was independent, very religious and active in her church. She loved dogs, enjoyed music, making jewelry, and playing pinochle with her family. She will be greatly missed by friends and family for her generosity, her kind heart, and her enduring love of life. A memorial service will be held at Calvary Chapel East, 12820 Indian School Rd. MEEK -- Theo Ray "Ted" Meek, 95, died July 12, 2010. He is survived by his children, Lillian McConnell and husband Russell Bruce, Donna Sellers and husband Bob, Yvonne Murray and husband John, John Meek , James Meek and wife Theresa; grandchildren, James Meek and wife Amanda, Leon Meek, Brian Sellers and wife Stacey, Deanne Copely and husband Scott, Heather Finocchiaro and husband Mike, Susan Murray, Shawn Meek, Theo McConnell, Heather Roberts and husband Russell, Jonathan Meek; six great-grandchildren; and many other family and friends. Theo was preceded in death by his wife Mary; his parents John and Charlotte Meek; and his three brothers, Millard Meek, Dewey Meek and Albert Meeks; and sister, Mattie Bell Moseley. He was raised in the Estancia Valley and served in the United States Army Air Corps during WW II. Theo and Mary raised their family in the Espanola Valley. PADILLA -- Eloy (Duke)Padilla, age 74, a resident of Jarales, peacefully passed away, after a brief battle with cancer, on Monday, July 12, 2010. Surrounded by his family, and beloved companion of ten years. He was preceded in death by his father, Trinidad Padilla; mother, Gertrudita Padilla; brothers, Avaristo Padilla, Maximino Padilla, Felix Padilla; and sister Josefita Mascarena. Survived by his only remaining brother, Florian Padilla of Jarales; his companion, Mary J. Montoya and family; the mother of his four children, Laura C. Padilla; three of his sons, Peter Paul Padilla, wife Loretta C. Padilla, Ron Victor Padilla, Frank M. Padilla; and one daughter, Sandy Mae Padilla; his four grandchildren, Elijah J. Padilla and wife Shaylyn, Rebekah R. Padilla, Rachel J. Padilla and Paul F. Padilla; and several loving nephews and nieces. He served two years in Korea, worked for the Corp. of Engineers and retired from the US Postal Service and currently worked part time for the Belen Public Transport. He spent most of his free time farming in Jarales and building homes. He enjoyed music, singing gospel songs, and rancheritas and serving his Lord and Savior and spreading the good news of the Gospel. QUINTANA -- Ronnie Quintana, 52, passed away peacefully July 11, 2010. He is survived by his wife Julie; children, Amber, Joshua and Nicole; Ronnie is also survived by his mother, Linda; mother-in-law, Mary; brothers, Ruben and wife Maryann, Henry and wife Debbie, Mario and wife Terry and Johnny; sisters, Linda and husband George, Yolanda, Rosie and Mary and husband Ray; and many other family and friends. For over 30 years, Ronnie worked from the ground up in the construction and petroleum industry especially in sales the last 15 years. REYNOLDS -- Niva L. Reynolds, 78, passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2010. SAAVEDRA -- Janice Saavedra, 49, passed away, Saturday, July 10, 2010 at her home. She was born July 23, 1960 in Albuquerque, a daughter of Arthur and Sophie Padilla Savedra. Janice loved her family dearly. She was an excellent High School Athlete. She taught physical education for 23 years at Mary Ann Binford Elementary and loved working with her students. Janice established the mediation program at her school - the longest continuous program in the State. She organized the annual school Fun Run and many other child-centered programs. She is loved and will be missed by her students, friends and loving family. She loved her Dallas Cowboys and attended many games. Janice loved the outdoors, especially camping and gardening. Survivors include her life partner, Deborahrose Poster of 23 years; her father, Arthur, of Bosque Farms; sister, Josie (husband Candy) Gabaldon, Los Lunas; brothers, Mike (wife Ida) Saavedra, Los Lunas and Steve (wife Barbara) Savedra, Bosque Farms; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. SANDOVAL -- Robert A. Sandoval, 60, died Monday, July 12, 2010 on the Ladera Golf Course. He was born February 9, 1950, in Albuquerque, a son of Cornelio and Trini Giddings Sandoval. He married Robina Myers, August 3, 1974 in Santa Fe. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Robina; his son, Paul Sandoval of Albuquerque; his daughter, Aubrey and her husband John Shoe, and their son, Owen of Lakewood, CO; two brothers; Pete and his wife Alberta Sandoval; and Ignacio and his wife Laura Sandoval, all of Albuquerque. He was a self-employed Certified Public Accountant, was active locally, synodically, and churchwide in the ELCA and at All Saints Lutheran Church. He served on the Board of Directors of the New Mexico Conference of Churches. He was an avid golfer and loved traveling with family and friends. Family will greet friends Wednesday, July 14, 2010, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at All Saints Lutheran Church, 4800 All Saints Road NW. SANFORD -- Sandra C. Sanford , 54, Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister passed away unexpectedly in her sleep July 9, 2010. She was born in El Paso, TX on March 16, 1956. She was preceded in death by both of her parents Charles and Francis Love. She is survived by her loving Husband of 27 years Don (JR) Sanford Jr.; son Justin and wife Jolynn; daughter Jayme; and son Jesse; four grandchildren, Griffen, Kemper, Kayleigh and Kaleb; three sisters; three brothers; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Sandy was a bright star to all that knew her. Her kind heart and gentle soul made friends of everyone she met, and her home was always open to anyone in need. Sandy worked in the banking industry for over 30 years and was currently employed by Four Corners Community Bank, Making many life long friends. Her grandchildren were the light of her life and they adored her as well. Sandy's passing will leave a void in all the lives she touched and she will be deeply missed by all. We will miss you MOM! STEWART -- LTC DAVID TOUPS STEWART, Sr. (US Army RET) - Dave was born on October 13, 1928 in Lafayette, Louisiana. He graduated from Lafayette High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He earned two additional bachelors degrees from the University of Albuquerque in Criminal Justice and Corrections. He also received a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of New Mexico. Dave spent his military career as an officer in the US Army Military Police Corps, having been stationed in Kansas, Georgia, Texas, Louisiana, Germany, Korea and Viet-Nam. Prior to retiring, Colonel Stewart was the Provost Marshall of the Second Armored Division at Fort Hood, Texas. Among his many decorations, he received the Army Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Joint Service Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster and was awarded the Vietnam Distinguished Service Order 1st class, by the President of the Republic of South Viet-Nam. After retiring from the Army, Colonel Stewart worked for the State of New Mexico as an instructor at the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy and a director at the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department. Dave was an avid golfer at Tijeras Arroyo Golf Course and was able to play golf in Hawaii, Scotland and Ireland with his children. He was a great fan and supporter of UNM Lobo athletics and a member of the Lobo Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary (Dee Dee) Toups Stewart; brothers, Richard (USN) and Lt. Leigh Elliot Stewart (shot down over the North Sea in World War II.); He was also preceded in death by his precious granddaughter Courtney Francis Stewart. Dave is survived by his wife Prudence Allyn McCracken Stewart, Prudy; he is survived by two daughters, Cydney Clare Stewart MD and husband David Allen Hovda, PhD, of Woodland Hills, CA and Kimberly Stewart Feldman, Ed.D and husband Eldon A.T. Feldman of Albuquerque, NM; His five sons, David Toups Stewart Jr., MD and wife Gillian Knight Stewart, of Tallahassee, Florida, Christopher Kevin Stewart, PGA Professional, of Laughlin, Nevada, Sean Allyn Stewart of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Timothy Joseph McCracken Stewart and wife Judith Thibaut of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Patrick Porter Stewart and wife Allison Holmes Stewart of Albuquerque, New Mexico; he is also survived by his grandchildren, David Toups Stewart III, Kevin Ian Stewart, Lesley Marie Stewart and Nephew Kelly Edward Nelson of Beverly Hills, California and by his loyal companion rescue dog "Jack." A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at French ~ Lomas Chapel. Memorial Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with internment to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico. VOSSEN -- George M. Vossen (Junior) was born at home in East Union, Minnesota. He moved to Albuquerque in 1985 and passed away on June 30, 2010. Before he got sick he worked as a diesel mechanic. He enjoyed his work. He also enjoyed working on cars in his spare time helping people with their cars. People knew if they called George he would know how to fix their vehicles. He is survived by his wife Janice (Jan); his daughter Jacqueline (Jackie); and her husband John Utsey; his grandchildren, Jocelyn and Jasper Utsey. He was preceded in death by son Greg who died on June 22, 2010 who left behind two children, Roxanne and Jaynee Vossen; and his two sisters, Dolores Malzahn and Helen Pauly. The family will be receiving friends on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at 2:00 p.m., followed by the services, at Riverside Funeral Home, 225 San Mateo Blvd. NE, Albuquerque 764-9963. WEBER -- Sherry Ann Weber, 66, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away on July 4, 2010. She is survived by her husband of 44 years Dr. Richard R. Weber of Albuquerque, NM; her sons, Christopher, Richard, Thomas and wife, Melanie of Lopez Island, WA and their children Jordan and Brytton; Sister Janice Zingapan and spouse Ernesto of Buffalo, NY; Brother George Lintala and wife Mary Kay; and many nieces and nephews. She was born August 28, 1943 in Ashtabula, OH and has been a long time resident of Albuquerque, NM. Sherry was a registered nurse and currently worked as an office manager for Richard R. Weber DO. She had a passion for travel all over the world. She loved scuba diving, RVing and making afghan blankets which she would donate to Joy Junction. WHETSTONE -- Rev. J. Newton Whetstone, 93, former resident, passed away July 12, 2010 at Landsun Homes in Carlsbad, NM. Funeral Services are scheduled for July 16, 2010, Friday, 10:00 a.m., Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel at Sunset Memorial Park in Albuquerque, NM with Rev. Craig Cockrell officiating. Newton Whetstone was born April 7, 1917 in Waco, Texas to Harrell Newton and Edna Estelle (Leftwich) Whetstone. He married Arvece Clayton on June 7, 1937 in Abilene, Texas. Newton graduated from McMurray College in 1937 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and Chandler School of Theology at Emory University in 1940. Rev. Whetstone began his ministry October 15, 1940 in La Mesa when he joined the New Mexico Conference of the United Methodist Church. He served 18 different churches spanning over 53 years before retiring the second time in 1994. Rev. Whetstone was awarded the "Living Archivist" for Clergy in 1995. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a nephew. He is survived by his wife, Arvece Whetstone of Carlsbad, NM; two sons: Clayton N. Whetstone and Donna Souza of San Diego, CA, James R. Whetstone and wife, Rosemary of Gathersburg, MD; eight grandchildren; brother, Joseph Whetstone and wife, Gloria of Arlington, TX; and two nieces.
