BARELA -- Mariano B. Barela, 94, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, went home to be with our Lord , on Friday, May 28, 2010. Mr. Barela was born on December 25, 1915 in La Joya, NM to Milton and Ciprianita (Baca) Barela. In the 1930's he assisted the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) during the construction of the Catwalk Trail in the Gila National Forest.He served in the US Army during WWII. He entered into the Army at Ft. Bliss, TX and was stationed at Camp Claiborne, LA before his Honorable Discharge at the VA Facility in Albuquerque, NM. He worked for the VA Hospital for 35 years in the transportation department. He loved to bowl, fish, go camping, and enjoyed cooking outdoors. He is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Victoria Barela, who died in September of 2009; his brothers, Jose Maria Barela, Eulalio Barela, Sevadeo Barela and Avelicio Barela; and sisters, Acension Barela Castillo and Emelia Barela Romero. He is survived by his children, Angie Gomez and husband, Eddie, Cipry Barela, Kathy Barela Swartz, and Mariano C. Barela, Jr., & wife, Ruth; seven grandchildren, Michelle, Erica, Jose, Magin, Arianna, Greg and Eric; five great-grandchildren, Elijah, Gabriella, Alexia, Kaleb and Joshua. A Memorial Service with military honors will be held on Friday, June 4, 2010 at 10:00 at Daniels Family Funeral Services, 1100 Coal Ave SE. BARNES -- Larry Ray Barnes, age 53, passed away on May 25, 2010 in Albuquerque, NM. He was born on September 3, 1956 in Goldsboro, NC. Larry served his country proudly serving his nation for the United States Air Force, during the Gulf War and retired form the Air Force as a Staff Sergeant. After retirement, he went to work at BCDC as a correctional officer for 12 years. Everyone who knew him, loved him for his kindness and caring personality. Larry is survived by his loving wife, Pervin Akyel-Barnes of the family home, her daughter, Melissa Helfen; and one granddaughter, Lacy Fresquez. He is also survived by his mother, Mamie O'Dell of Goldsboro, NC; and two sons, Larry Jr. and Quentin Barnes. A graveside will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 in Santa Fe at the National cemetery. FOSTER -- Wesley Foster, a resident of Albuquerque since 1957, died Friday May 28, 2010. He is survived by one sister, Peggy Horngren and husband, Tom of Buena Park, CA; daughter, Susan Mullins and Gill of Belen; four sons, Thomas Foster and wife, Mary of Albuquerque, Richard Foster and wife, Patricia of Brighton, CO, Dennis Foster and wife, Kathy of Ivins, UT, and James Foster and wife, Lyz of Los Lunas; special friends, Barbara Steinberg and Rob Irwin; 23 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Elza Foster and special friends, Hellen Whittaker and Donna Kyle. He was born in Detroit, MI on August 7, 1927 to Florence May Ferris and Lester John Molone Foster. Wes was an avid bridge player, accomplished wood carver, and bread baker. He enjoyed his Friday night dinners at Cracker Barrel. He enjoyed his church friends and Sunday school classes. He was a veteran of the US Navy and the Michigan National Guard. The family would like to thank the Neurosciences ICU at UNMH for their special care of Wes. Services will take place on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephens United Methodist Church 4601 Juan Tabo Blvd NE. Interment will follow at San Antonito Cemetery. GILLESPIE -- Margaret "Margie" Elizabeth Greer Gillespie, 76, died May 28, 2010. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ben J Gillespie; her children, Karol Gillespie Nimick and husband, Fran of Edgewood, Anne Elizabeth Broughton and husband, Brad of Colorado Springs; grandchildren, Sarah Salazar and husband, Zaqueo, Kathleen Boroch, Aileen Nimick and Kevin Broughton; and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, James D. and Maud Wigley Greer. Margie was chosen a Los Alamos "Living Treasure" for her charity work in northern New Mexico, was a successful florist and active member of her church in Los Alamos. She received her Associates Degree from ENMU in Portales after attending high school in Amarillo, TX, where she was a National Merit Scholar. A Memorial service will be Wednesday, 2:00 p.m., June 2, 2010 at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd NE. Burial will take place at Guaje Pines Cemetery in Los Alamos, NM. HINKEN -- Robert Hinken, a long time resident of Albuquerque passed away Thursday, May 27, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carolyn Hinken; children, Scott Hinken and wife Claire of Albuquerque, Steve Hinken and wife Liz of Los Lunas, and Cindy Sauers and husband Shawn of Willits, CA; grandchildren, Maryellen, Owen, Nathan, and Jesse; brother, Bill Hinken and wife Rae Ellen of Courtland, KS; sister, Marge Kortan and husband Jim of Herrick, SD along with many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Laura Hinken. Robert was born in Burke, SD and proudly served in the United States Army as an MP in Boston. He attended Ventura College in California and graduated from the Colorado Institute of Art in Denver where he met his wife, Carolyn. Robert retired from Kraft Foods after 20 years of service. He then purchased the Dunkin Donuts on San Mateo, which he owned and operated for 12 1/2 years. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at French ~ Wyoming Chapel. HINKLE -- Kenneth Hinkle age 94 went home today on May 24, 2010 in Albuquerque, NM. He was born to James and Annie Hinkle in Telephone, TX. Kenneth was a loving husband, father grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather who loved his children and all of his grandchildren. He enjoyed football, but loved baseball even more. During his younger years, Kenneth even played on the Lone Star Baseball League. His favorite past-times were bridge, 42, spades and dominoes. Kenneth married the love of his life, Thelma. After 53 years of marital bliss they are now together again. Kenneth is survived by his daughters, Barbara Alexander of Miami, TX and Lucy Custard and husband, Buzz, of Elephant Butte, NM; five surviving grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Kenneth was preceded in death by his loving wife Thelma; one grand-daughter, Kellye; and one son-in-law, George. A funeral service will be held on June 1, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Netherwood Park Church of Christ, 5101 Indian School Rd. NE, with Minister Walter Lane as the officiant. HOLLIE -- David Lewis Hollie, 62, a resident of Albuquerque since 1996, died Saturday, May 29, 2010. He is survived by his spouse, Dee Moya Hollie of Albuquerque; two step-daughters; three step-sons; ten step-grandchildren; ten step-great-grandchildren of Albuquerque and the surrounding area; sisters and brothers; nieces, nephews and many friends. David was preceded in death by his daughter, Davina Hollie Green. David was born September 19, 1947, in Hollandale, Mississippi. He joined the U.S. Army on May 17, 1966, and is a veteran of two tours in Vietnam. He pursued a music career in Nashville, Tennessee, for a period of time then made his way to Albuquerque, NM, where he met and married his wife Dee. JOHNSON -- Delphine Caroline Johnson (Lindblom), 87, resident of Albuquerque since 1983, passed away peacefully, Friday, May 28, 2010, after a brief illness. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Earle E. Johnson; son, Larry Johnson; daughter, Deanna Gear; and grandchildren, Brady Gear and wife, Anna, and Lindsay Gear. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Lloyd and Kenneth Lindblom, and Lucille Patrick. Delphine was born in Gypsum, KS and grew up in Falun, KS. She and her family later resided in Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico. Delphine was a very devoted wife and mother and enjoyed taking care of her family. She was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church and was active in various church functions. Friends may visit Monday, May 31, 2010 from 3 to 4 pm at French ~ Wyoming Chapel. VICKERS -- Bill Dean, 80, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 29, 2010. He is survived by loving wife of 58 years, Barbara; one son, Dennis Vickers and wife, Mary; six grandchildren, Kari, Russell, Shaun, Rebecca, Tyson, and Lacey; three great- grandchildren, Hailey, Alesia, and Hayden. He is preceded in death by his mother, Nellie McConnell; son, William Vickers. Bill was involved in Civil Service for over 40 years. He also enjoyed leather work, taking trips in his RV, and gardening. Bill was a very active member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and enjoyed working in the temple. He also served as Scout Master for the Boy Scouts where he helped mold the lives of many young men.
