Mary C. Byers died suddenly on May 9, 2010. She was born in Waterford, Pennsylvania, to Robert and Lilian Owen, and graduated from Grove City College with a degree in Commerce. She married Don Byers in 1954. They traveled widely and lived in Switzerland, Texas, and Indonesia. After moving to Albuquerque in 1968 with her children, Mary had a long career in banking and real estate. She enjoyed an active retirement and was a loving mother and grandmother. Mary is survived by her son Bill; her daughter Donna Asher and husband Kelly; and her grandchildren, Melissa and Kathleen Asher. A private memorial gathering is pending. John (Johnny) J. Chavez, 43, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on May 13, 2010 with his loving family at his side. Johnny is survived by his parents, Robert Jr. and Ruth Chavez; any many extended family members. Josephine Marie McCall Cook, 85, a resident of Albuquerque for 65 years, passed away on May 12, 2010 in her home. She was born September 16, 1924 in Salt Lake City, UT and moved to Nampa, ID at the age of twelve. She and her husband, Pearl, were married for 65 years. She is survived by her husband Pearl Cook of the family home; daughter, Susan Cox and husband Earl; son, Robert Cook and companion Audra Arwood; seven grandchildren, Shanelle Cook, Timothy Cook, Allison Cook, Aaron Cook, Stacy Simpson and husband Buddy, Wesley Cook and wife Laura, and Michael Shackelford; three great-grandchildren; and brother, Thomas McCall, Jr. and wife Shirley. Margaret (Eckert) Cornell, 91, a native of Santa Fe, NM, died Sunday, May 9, 2010, in Albuquerque. She is survived by daughters Mary Cornell of Albuquerque, NM, Grace (Larry) Luper of Tequesta, FL, and Johanna (Steve) Williams of Phoenix, AZ; grandsons Dennis (Connie) Mosqueda of Las Vegas, NV, Matthew (Natalie) Mosqueda of Jupiter, FL, plus Ryan Williams, Josh Williams and Michael Williams, all of Phoenix, AZ. Additionally she is survived by 26 nieces and nephews; 54 great-nieces and nephews; and two great-great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Lawrence Cornell; parents Charles and Josephine Eckert; brothers John Eckert, Martin Eckert and George Eckert; sisters Mary Flood, Josephine Eckert Huber, Bernadette Eckert, Eloisa Branch, Charlotte Robertson and Bernadette Beals. For 30 years Margaret operated Flair Finishing School and Modeling Agency, which was honored as "School of the Year" by the International Fashion Modeling Association (IFMA). Margaret served a term as President of the IFMA as well as a term as President of the Private School Association. An avid tennis player, Margaret was a founding member of the Tennis Club of Albuquerque and she twice won State Championships in doubles tennis. Her civic endeavors included her work with Bruce and Alice King on the Boys and Girls Ranch of NM, as well as President of the Albuquerque Civic Symphony Women's Association, Member of the Board of Albuquerque T-VI (now CNM) and instructor at UNM Community College. Margaret was a long-time parishioner at St. Bernadette's Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and taught CCD. A Memorial Mass will be held Monday, May 17, 2010, 10:00 a.m., at St. Francis Cathedral, 131 Cathedral Pl, Santa Fe, NM. Dr. Robert Perry Jr., age 78, went to be with the Lord on May 4, 2010. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Lynne; his son Bob III and wife Alisa and kids Robby IV and Bailey of Albuquerque; daughter Cheri and husband Ted Rifkin and kids Riley and TJ of Durango, CO; sisters Carol and husband Ross Rhoads of Charlotte, NC and Connie and husband Dave Voss of Laguna Niguel, CA; and many nephews and nieces. Bob moved here eight months ago from Palm Desert, CA with Lynne to be nearer his family. He devoted his life to the service of Jesus Christ at the early age of seven. Bob graduated with honors from Wheaton College, and then Fuller Seminary in CA. His first church was in Rochester, NH from 1959-63, then Elmhurst, IL from 1963-70, Denver, CO from 1970-78. He ran for U.S. Congress in 1976, then became Director of Public Affairs and V.P. for National Assn. of Evangelicals in Washington, D.C. from 1978-2000. He counseled with every President from Carter to Clinton as the Champion for Christian Causes in America. He was a hero to his bon Bob III and grandson Robby IV as they share his name and destiny. We all loved him and miss him so much, but know his homecoming in Heaven is a brilliant glory in Christ. A Memorial celebration will be held at Calvary Chapel in the Hub, 4001 Osuna NE on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 12:00 noon.

HETSCHEL --
Al Hetschel, resident of Albuquerque since 1958 (with a few exceptions thanks to Uncle Sam) died May 12, 2010. Al was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on March 7, 1928 to Albert E. and Wilma Hetschel. He went on to be an Eagle Scout with two Palms. Al joined the United States Air Force in 1946. In 1952, while stationed in New York, he met Sara Thomas. Al needed special permission to date Sara as she was a 1st Lt. in the Air Force Nurse Corp. They married in 1953. They welcomed Jeff into their family in 1958. Al was then stationed in Alaska and then Sacramento, California. Al retired from the Air Force in 1967 and took up full time residence in the NE Heights. Al would later say he loved every day in the Air Force. He worked for the US Postal Service from 1973 to 1990. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a proud member the Loco Patrol of the Shrine. After Sara's passing on November 12, 2004, he lived at the Woodmark in Uptown Albuquerque where he made many friends including one Ms. Virgie Pace whom brought much joy into Al's life. Al's best friend was Mr. Maurice Bryd who he had lunch with at a Furrs restaurant weekly for nearly 31 years. Chaplain Jeff Hetschel will conduct services at Woodmark Assistant Living, 7201 Prospect Pl. NE on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Al is survived by the Hetschel family of California: Jeff, Debbie, (Mission Viejo) Dan (Portland), Nicole (a nurse in Los Angeles, like her Grandma) and Alyssa (sophomore at Azusa Pacific University). Robert N. Johnson, beloved husband, father and friend, went home to be with the Lord on Easter morning, April 4,2010. "Bob" was born near Woodland, California, on May 14, 1919. He grew up there on an almond and cattle ranch, graduating from Esparto Union High School in Esparto, California, in 1937. He was a member of the California National Guard 1935-1938, attaining the rank of Corporal. He was foreman of a welding crew for Bethlehem Steel, working on new destroyers in San Francisco, and also supervised construction of floating dry docks for the Navy in Eureka, California. He was inducted into the United States Army Air Corps in September, 1943, and was honorably discharged in March, 1946. He loved flying, logging over 5,000 hours, spent years as a crop duster, and also flew the U.S./Mexico border for the BLM. He was a corporate pilot and heavy equipment supervisor for Universal Constructors in Albuquerque, N.M., and in the 1970's, he managed Coronado Airport, also in Albuquerque. The last few years he lived in Green Valley, Arizona, with his wife, Elizabeth, and worked for FICO, a large producer of pecans, where he was in charge of special projects. He and Elizabeth celebrated their 50 wedding anniversary in 2003. He volunteered at the Animal League of Green Valley and was a member of AOPA and the Aero Club of Arizona. He was involved with Wright Flight, an organization which encourages young people to stay in school and get good grades in order to get flying time with volunteer pilots. He enjoyed visiting with his many friends, and "hangar flying" with fellow pilots. He will be dearly missed. He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth; and children, son Donald Johnson and wife, Susan; daughter Sue Ettinger and husband Pete; daughter Sheri Courtney and husband Ken; daughters Mary Ann, Gayle, and Sandy; and son Noel; as well as many grandchildren. A Celebration of Life has been held in Green Valley, Arizona. Interment at the Santa Fe National Cemetery will be conducted on May 21, 2010, at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, friends are welcome to donate to the Animal League of Green Valley, 1600 W. Onofre (Onie) G. Perea, 91, loving husband and father went to be with our Lord, Tuesday, May 11, 2010. He was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque. Onie retired from Sandia National Labs after 35 years of service and was a member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Onie was preceded in death by his wife, Esther E. Perea; four brothers; and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Ruth M. EMORY JOHN SHINGLETON, born May 26, 1961 to Robert and Mary Shingleton of Willoughby, Ohio. Emory was a self employed contractor and willing to give everything a try, from landscaping to roofing, remodeling and rebuilding. A lover of the outdoors, hunting and working with his hands brought a lot of joy into his life. Leonor Ulivarri, age 84, a resident of Pueblitos, NM, passed away on Wednesday morning, May 12, 2010, in Las Cruces, NM where she lived for the past two years. She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Leonor was a long time bookkeeper for H. Caldwell Motor Company. She was a housewife to her late husband, Narciso N. Ulivarri and a devoted mother to 14 children; as well as 43 grandchildren; and 44 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Epitacio and Victoriana Baca; four sons, Eugene in 1958, Michael in 1959, Narciso Ulivarri, Jr. and David Lorenzo Ulivarri in 1990; daughter, Martha Dent in 1991; grandson, Orlando Gutierrez, Jr. in 1977; sister, Antonia Aragon; two year old brother, Lawrence and an infant brother. Leonor is survived by four daughters, Dolores Gutierrez and husband, Orlando of Belen, NM, Theresa Berni and husband, William of Los Lunas, NM, Paula Gabaldon and husband, Anthony of Pueblitos and Sharon Olguin and husband, Vincent of Albuquerque, NM; five sons, Arthur Ulivarri, Daniel Ulivarri and Joe Leo Ulivarri all of Pueblitos, Norbert Ulivarri and wife, Judy of Roswell, NM and Rafael Ulivarri and wife, Carmen of Las Cruces; sister, Florinda Gallegos and husband, Tom of Los Lunas; three brothers-in-law, Louie Aragon and Gilbert Ulivarri of Belen and Rafael Ulivarri and wife, Vivian of Barstow, CA and two sisters-in-law, Christina and Reina Ulivarri of Riverside, CA. A viewing was held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel, on Friday, May 14, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. with a rosary recited by Deacon Felix Barela at 6:00 p.m. A final visitation will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. with Father Frances Bijoy presiding. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Cemetery.
