ABEYTA -- Rev. Eppie Abeyta born in Leadville, Colorado on March 24, 1924 to Teofilo and Maria Abeyta went to be with his Lord on Sunday, May 9, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lydia Abeyta; brother Wences Abeyta; and sister Severa DeAguerro. Survived by his children: James Abeyta and wife Belia, David Abeyta and wife Tina, JoAnn Rios and husband Manny, Dorothy Padilla and husband Jose', Liz Gutierrez and husband John, Neomi Guerrero and husband Martin; and his grandchildren James Abeyta, Jr. and Denise Morang; Vanessa Buffington and Jessica Sanchez, Mario Abeyta, Marcos Abeyta, and Joy Varela, Carlos Gutierrez, Tomas Gutierrez, and Natalie Gutierrez; Candace McKillip and Elias Guerrero; nine great grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces, friends and relatives, and fellow clergy. He was preceded in death by brother Tony Abeyta, sister Sally Abeyta, and granddaughter Elaine Lovato. Rev. Abeyta was a retired ordained minister and member of the Central Latin American District Council of the Assemblies of God Fellowship and resided in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He and his loving wife pastored many churches throughout New Mexico for over 30 years. He was considered the pillar and patriarch of the family and will be sorely missed by his family and numerous friends and relatives. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services that will be held Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. and Friday, May 14, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Harvest Fellowship Church at 5331 Montano NW. BACA -- Ernesto Baca, 60, a resident of Albuquerque, NM went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 9, 2010. He will be missed. BARRETT -- Brandon Aaron Barrett, 27, died on Wednesday, May 5th 2010, serving his country in Afghanistan. He has recently been posthumously promoted from the rank of first lieutenant to captain by the United States Marine Corps. Barrett was born January 21st, 1983 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He spent his childhood befriending everyone he met, playing sports, and dreaming of becoming a soldier for the United States military. Brandon graduated from Marion High School in 2001, and he was proudly accepted into the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland. He graduated in 2006, joined the Marine Corps, and was promoted to the rank of first lieutenant on May 26, 2008. Barrett was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. He deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from March to October 2008 and again in December 2009. Barrett's awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal and NATO International Security Assistance Force Medal. Brandon "Bull" Barrett was an outstanding athlete, an avid outdoorsman and a natural leader. He confronted every task with enthusiasm and accepted each responsibility with dignity. His passionate commitment to the Marine Corps and to his troops was insurmountable. Those who knew him will remember his loyalty and his dedication to friendship most of all. His eyes held no prejudice, and he greeted everyone with a smile. Brandon kept the city of Marion, Indiana closest to his heart, returning home on nearly every leave. To its citizens and to the countless numbers of lives that he touched, Brandon Barrett will forever be remembered as a hero. He is survived by his mother, Cindy Barrett; his father, Brett Barrett; his sisters, Ashley and Taylor Barrett; his brother, Brock Barrett; and his grandmother, Carmen Johnson. Additional survivors include several aunts, uncles and cousins. BLAND -- Alberta Lee Bland was born September 2, 1937 to Bert Austin and Opal A (Pettit) Bland at home in Beaver City, Nebraska. She weighed ten pounds that day and as the years passed she never grew over 5' 1" but she had a huge heart. Alberta had one older brother, Austin and younger, Monty. They both treasured and teased her which contributed to her joyous personality. When Alberta was 12 years old she had open heart surgery, the first successful open heart surgery in a child in the state of Nebraska. That heart continued to beat strong until May 8, 2010 when she left this world for a better life. Alberta graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in Medical Technology. She retired from Presbyterian Hospital and the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She loved cooking, gardening, wood working, singing with "Young at Heart" and her two dogs "Charlie" and "Sophie". Alberta is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Austin; nephew, Justin William; and grand niece, Ruth Isabelle. Survivors include her partner of 44 years, Louann Daniel; her brother, Monty and his wife, Cheryl; nephews, Robert and Spencer Bland and their wives and children; nieces, Renae, Babette, Caramia, and Stephanie and their husbands and children. CARMONA -- MAX JR., Max Carmona Jr, 68, loving husband, father, went home to be with our Lord on Monday May 10, 2010 due to an illness. Among his favorite past times he enjoyed fishing, watching wrestling, he enjoyed working in his garden and loved taking care of his grandchildren. DALBY -- Walter J. Dalby, went to meet with our Lord on Saturday, May 8, 2010, after a long illness. Walter was born in Temple, TX, July 22, 1926 to Walter and Florence Dalby. He graduated from Albuquerque High School May 21, 1943. Walter served in the US Navy from 1944 to 1946. He married Alta Arlene Premer on June 3, 1949. She passed away October 30, 1970. Walter received his B.S.M.E. degree from the UNM, July 5, 1950 and worked at Sandia National Laboratories as a Mechanical Design Engineer, 1950 to 1956 and 1958 to 2001. He worked at Phillips Petroleum in Idaho Falls, ID, from 1956 to 1958. Walter married Bernice J. Casey on May 16, 1987. He is survived by his wife, Bernice; brother, William Joseph Head and wife, Mary; son, John F. Dalby of Flagstaff, AZ; daughter, Karyn A. Reid and husband, Gary of Rico, CO; son, Michael W. Dalby and wife, Vicky of Albuquerque; one granddaughter; several stepchildren; step-grandchildren; and a niece and nephew. The family will be forever grateful for the professional, tender, and loving care he received from the doctors, nurses, and other professionals at UNM Hospital. DUGAN -- Dr. Robert Perry Jr., age 78, went to be with the Lord on May 4, 2010. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Lynne; his son Bob III and wife Alisa and kids Robby IV and Bailey of Albuquerque; daughter Cheri and husband Ted Rifkin and kids Riley and TJ of Durango, CO; sisters Carol and husband Ross Rhoads of Charlotte, NC and Connie and husband Dave Voss of Laguna Niguel, CA; and many nephews and nieces. Bob moved here eight months ago from Palm Desert, CA with Lynne to be nearer his family. He devoted his life to the service of Jesus Christ at the early age of seven. Bob graduated with honors from Wheaton College, and then Fuller Seminary in CA. His first church was in Rochester, NH from 1959-63, then Elmhurst, IL from 1963-70, Denver, CO from 1970-78. He ran for U.S. Congress in 1976, then became Director of Public Affairs and V.P. for National Assn. of Evangelicals in Washington, D.C. from 1978-2000. He counseled with every President from Carter to Clinton as the Champion for Christian Causes in America. He was a hero to his bon Bob III and grandson Robby IV as they share his name and destiny. We all loved him and miss him so much, but know his homecoming in Heaven is a brilliant glory in Christ. A Memorial celebration will be held at Calvary Chapel in the Hub, 4001 Osuna NE on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 12:00 noon.

FRANKLIN -- Gracia Renedo Franklin passed peacefully May 7, 2010. Gracia was born in Granada, Spain in 1932. Her family moved to Barcelona where she met Lt. Willard E. Franklin. They married and lived in many places around the world before retiring in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Gracia was a devoted wife and mother. Her passion was to love and serve her family. She helped in raising her grandchildren. She loved to cook and drink coffee. She will be deeply missed by her family and all others whose lives she touched. She is survived by her daughter, Isabel Martin and husband Mark; son Ben Franklin and wife Patricia; daughter-in-law Barbara Franklin; grandchildren, Leit and wife Kim, Carisa, Meisje, Aharon, Jordan, Haley, Laney, and Megan; and great- grandchildren, Jonah, Jade, Mackenzie, and Kolton. Gracia was preceded in death by her husband Willard; son Alberto; and daughter Luci. She will also join in heaven her brothers, and sisters; Antonio, Amparo, Diego, Lola, Louie, Carmela, and Maria. FRESQUEZ HERNANDEZ -- Pauline Ruth Fresquez Hernandez born March 2, 1928 passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on May 10th, 2010. Pauline is survived by her companion, Joe Trujillo; her daughters, Charlene Hernandez, Maggie Ochoa and husband, Efren, Theresa Samaniego and husband, Manuel, and Martha Hernandez; her sons, Art Hernandez and wife, Rita, James Hernandez and wife, Theresa; her grandson whom she raised, Ernie Garcia; special granddaughters, Ruby Garcia and Tina Romero; her five sisters who reside in California; nephew, Richard Fresquez; and sister-in-law, Helen Aragon. Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Hernandez; her sons, Paul and Melvin Hernandez; her mother, Ester Dominguez; mother-in- law, Miquela Hernandez; and grandson, Steven Garcia. Pauline's legacy continues for five generations through grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. She loved to sew, plant flowers, and her kitty Buggie. LOPEZ -- Ted A. "Diz" Lopez, 67, passed away May 9, 2010 at his home in Albuquerque following a lengthy illness. He was born October 3, 1942 in Santa Fe, NM to Ted M. and Josephine Lopez. He graduated from St. Michael's High School in 1961. He was a retired electrician and a proud member, officer and brother of the IBEW LU 611. An avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing, hunting, camping and going for wood. As his illness progressed, he took up gemology, jewelry making, and photography. He had a quick wit and a way of always making people laugh and smile. Ted was preceeded in death by his mother, Josephine Bustamante Lopez, father, Ted M. Lopez, sisters Mary Jo Moolick, Christine Marie Lopez, and granddaughter Antoniette Melissa Lopez. He is survived by his Aunt Annie and husband Michael Tony Sandoval of Santa Fe, Teddy wanted to thank Aunt Annie for "asking me to be the ring bearer at your wedding and I'm sorry for stepping on your dress". MACEACHEN -- Michael A. MacEachen passed away May 8, 2010, at 82 in Largo, Florida. Mike was born in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada on February 6, 1928 to Michael Patrick and Corinne MacEachen (Deceased). Michael served in the United States Air Force for twenty-seven years and was honorably discharged holding the rank of Chief Warrant Officer with many honors and commendations. He proudly served all over the world with stops in Germany, Turkey, Greece, Holland and Vietnam. Mike loved the water, playing golf, bowling, and fishing. Mike was a member of the Knights of Columbus and truly enjoyed any social situation and being with family and friends. Mike is survived by his wife, Ginny; past wife and mother of his children, Shirley; sons, Michael Jr. and his wife Linda, Daniel and his wife Monica, Timothy and his wife Susan; and nine grandchildren. Funeral arrangements in Florida, where he will be interred with full military honors, are pending.

MCCLAIN -- Pamela S. McClain, 63, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away with her loving family by her side on Saturday, May 8, 2010. Mrs. McClain was born on October 7, 1946 to Robert W. and Dorothy L. (Allen) Green of Des Moines, IA. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Cathedral and its choir. In her twenties, Mrs. McClain was a member of the USO. She was a financial advisor for Ameriprise and in her spare time, she enjoyed scrapbooking and volunteering for many organizations. Mrs. McClain is survived by her husband of 23 years, Harris R. McClain, of Albuquerque, NM; a daughter, Jennifer M. Gray of McAllen, TX; a son, Matthew R. Gray, and his wife Judith, of Buda, TX; a grandson, Zane, also of Buda, TX; and a brother, William Green, of Des Moines, IA. MEDINA -- Ruth A. Medina, 84, died May 7, 2010. Born in Monte Vista, CO on August 17, 1925, she was a graduate of Adams State Teachers College. She taught elementary school in Dulce, NM and in the APS school system. Ruth raised children, her own, and others with legendary zeal and warmth. She was a great cook, generous to family and friends, and left a lasting impression on those she met and whose lives she touched. She is survived by her three children, Cassandra Medina, Patrick Medina and Veronica Medina; her brother, Alfred Archuleta; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Thaddeus Medina; her parents, Alfred and Rose Archuleta; and her husband, Alfonso E. Medina. She was a fountain of love and kindness and will live in our hearts forever. She enjoyed music, taking care of her rescue dogs and volunteering at a local Alzheimer's facility. MONTOYA -- Ernestine Montoya, 92, former resident of Espanola and Albuquerque, NM died April 23, 2010 in Peoria, AZ. Born and raised in South Central Colorado, she moved to New Mexico with her family in the late 1930's. She is survived by four children, Pauline Montoya-Bowman of Kauai, HI, David Montoya and wife Judy, from Surprise, AZ, Tommy Montoya from Espanola, NM and Rick Montoya from Espanola, NM. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four sisters; and six brothers. She was preceded in death by her grandson Shawn Bowman and former husband Leo Montoya. A wake service will be held Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home. NEFF -- Jack Neff passed away on Friday, May 7, 2010 after a short illness. Jack was lifelong resident of New Mexico. He was born in Raton July 27, 1931 and lived most of his life in Albuquerque. He was in the US Army and US Air Force and retired from General Electric. Jack was preceded in death by his father, Floyd M.; mother, Margaret; brother, Floyd R.; daughter, Susie; and two great grandsons, Alex and Kyle. He is survived by two sisters, Shirley (Pat) and husband Robert O'Hara, and Margaret; two brothers, Bruce and wife Rexene and Robert and wife Ann; his daughter Lisa and husband Greg Heimer; son Keith and his wife Kristen; and son Kevin and his wife Renee; his grandchildren, Alicia and husband Joe, Suzanne and fiance Peter, Michelle and husband Travis, Samantha and husband Seth, Robyn, Kristina, Savannah and Chandler; as well as four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. OTERO -- Cecelia D. Otero, 75, was received unto our Lord Jesus on May 8, 2010. She was born on November 22, 1934 in Winslow, AZ to Lucas and Matilde Dominguez; she was married to Wilfred Otero on July 2, 1956 and made their home together for 54 years in Los Lunas, NM. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many, Cecelia will be remembered for her 25 years of service as a special education teachers' aide at the Los Lunas Hospital and Training School, as an active member of her church, San Clemente Parish, for her award winning chili, and for her wonderful faith and nurturing spirit. Cecelia was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Lucas and Jose; and her sister Leonor. She is survived by her husband; her four children, Alfred Otero and his wife Twyla of Moriarty, NM, Bernadette Picchione and her husband Tim of Rio Rancho, NM, Jacqueline Otero and her partner Oscar Portillo of Albuquerque, NM, and Luke Otero and his wife Darlene of Santa Fe, NM; her eight grandchildren, Pamela Brandt and her husband Joshua of Glendale, AZ, Phillip Otero of Los Lunas, NM, Adam Picchione and his fiance Sarah of Post Falls, ID, Bryan Picchione and his fiance Lesley of Bernalillo, NM, Samantha Picchione of Rio Rancho, NM, Alyssa Sanchez and her husband Brian of Santa Fe, NM, Lucas Otero and Victoria Otero of Santa Fe, NM; her 11 great- grandchildren, Jacob, Jeffery, Madelyn, Baby Brandt, Sharon, Ryan, Lexie, Annalisa, Selena, Dominik, and Jaden; her sisters, Clara OCampo of San Bernardino, CA, Frances Chacon of Mesa, AZ, Mary Dominguez of Hayward, CA, and Angie Diaz of Bellflower, CA; and her many nieces, nephews and dear friends. RIVERA -- Robert L. Rivera died on May 6, 2010. He was born the third of five children to Manuel and Vina Rivera of Old Town, Albuquerque. He graduated from Valley High School in 1966; moved to Los Angeles, California where he worked as an engineer's aid at the California Highway Department. He married and had a son named Marc Anthony Rivera. Robert returned to New Mexico with his son Marc and attended UNM. He moved back to California, enrolled and graduated from the University of California at Irvine in 1975. That year he created pre-school curricula, wrote and published children's books at La Escuelita in Oakland, California. He enrolled at the University of California at Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall), and in 1978, he graduated with his law degree and moved back to New Mexico. He served as a New Mexico Supreme Court clerk for Justice Dan Sosa and became a member of the New Mexico Bar. He worked as an associate attorney for the Bigbee Law Firm in Santa Fe, and later he practiced law with Ernest Valdez and as a solo practioner in Santa Fe and northern New Mexico. He also served as the executive director for the NM Mining Association. Robert loved politics. He was elected chair of the Santa Fe County Democratic Party; he also served as a member of the Democratic National Committee. Most of his professional life was spent lobbying and writing on matters of public policy and regulatory issues in Santa Fe. He had a keen mind, an infectious laugh and a great sense of humor. He is survived by his son Marc; longtime friend, Yvonne Sanchez and her daughters; siblings Charlotte Walton, Geraldine Rivera, Beatriz Rivera, and David Rivera. Mass will be celebrated in the Chapel at Mount Calvary Cemetery at 1900 Edith Blvd., NE on Friday at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place immediately thereafter.

RUIZ -- Mr. Leopoldo Ruiz, 82, passed away on Friday, May 7, 2010. He was born in Las Vegas, NM on May 2, 1928 to Mariano and Lupita Ruiz and was the oldest of ten children. Mr. Ruiz was preceded in death by his loving wife Mauricia "Maureen" Ruiz and his son Russell Ruiz. He is survived by his children; Steve Ruiz, Rebecca Dyble and Genova Herrera and family in San Jose, CA. He is also survived by his remaining siblings; Salvador Ruiz and wife Lydia, Della Adams, Fredelina "Freddie" Palza and husband Mario, Helen Angel and husband Alfonso, Lydia Ruiz, Eloy Ruiz and wife Maria and Laida Martinez; as well as his grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Mr. Ruiz was a disabled veteran (active member of the VFW) who served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He was a barber for most of his early life, enjoyed fishing and tending to his garden and raising his own green chili which he gave to neighbors, friends and family. He loved his children and grandchildren very much and was a kind, loving and tender man. We will miss him very much! A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday, May 14, 2010 at Holy Family Church, 562 Atrisco SW. A reception will follow immediately after the Mass in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Interment will take place at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date.

RYBA -- Gail Naomi Ryba (Robey) November 30, 1962 - May 7, 2010 Gail was born in Seattle, Washington, and passed at home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, following a courageous battle with cancer. Gail's vibrant smile, keen mind, joyful spirit, and melodious voice will remain in the hearts of all the many who knew and admired her. Gail is survived by her devoted husband Thomas Robey; her beautiful daughter Lynn; her loving mother Frances (Joyce) Ryba; siblings David, Eric and Diane; and numerous loving friends. Gail was a graduate of Reed College and of the California Institute of Technology, and worked at Sandia National Lab for several years before devoting her life to bicycle advocacy, clean energy and sustainable lifestyles. She co-founded the Sandia Bicycle Commuters Group, founded the Albuquerque bicycle advocacy group and founded the Bicycle Coalition of New Mexico. She has served on numerous committees including the Greater Albuquerque Bicycling Advisory Committee (GABAC/GASP), the NMDOT's Bicycle, Pedestrian and Equestrian Committee (BPE), and was Executive Director of the New Mexico Coalition of Clean and Affordable Energy (NMCCAE). She received the League of American Bicyclists 2009 Phyllis Harmon Volunteer of the Year Award for her contributions to bicycle advocacy. Gail would be honored with remembrances to the Bicycle Coalition of New Mexico (PO Box 3326, Corrales, NM 87048) or Gerard's House (PO Box 28693, Santa Fe, NM 87592). SHELTON -- Martin E. Shelton, 85, of Albuquerque NM, went to be with his lord and savior on May 8, 2010. He was born Sept 29, 1924 in Dahlgren, Illinois to Robert Frank and Flossie Madelyn Shelton. He is survived by his wife Eleanor (Chavez) of Albuquerque, whom he married Oct 28, 1947. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his five sons and daughter in law: Gary and (Evelyn) Shelton of Dahlgren, Illinois, Jim Shelton of Albuquerque, Dennis Shelton of Albuquerque, Brad Shelton of Albuquerque, and Rod Shelton of Seattle, WA. He also is survived by five grandsons Timothy Shelton of Albuquerque, Thomas Shelton of Albuquerque, Gary and (Karen) Shelton of Chicago, Illinois, Matthew Shelton of Albuquerque and Jordan Shelton of Albuquerque. Martin joined the US Navy in 1942 and served his country in the Pacific during WWII until the close of the war in 1945. All those who knew him, would attest that he was a great husband, a loving father, beloved grandfather and the most loyal friend anyone could ever ask for. Martin expressed his charming personality through his charismatic wit, jovial good nature and a resolute faith in the Almighty. Because of his belief in the absolute power of faith and his reverence for the Lord, he will greatly be missed, but eternally blessed. SMITH -- Myrl F. Smith, 97 years old, a resident of Albuquerque since 1957, changed his residence to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 8, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ellen U. Smith; his son, John R. Smith and wife, Janet of Bosque Farms, NM; grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew, and Sierra. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Myrn and Elwood; and his son, Peter Smith. Myrl was born in Belding, Michigan, attended Belding High School, and was enrolled two years at the Michigan College of Mining and Technology. In 1934, he received a Senatorial Appointment to the West Point Military Academy where he played football and baseball, and graduated in 1938. During his army career he served through WWII in Panama and Japan, and retired with the rank of Colonel in 1947. He briefly owned a sporting goods business before choosing to return to work for the government in the Test Division of the Atomic Energy Commission. He retired in 1972 to spend time with his family and friends, fishing, boating and camping. A memorial service will be held Friday, May 14, 2010, 11:00 a.m. at Fellowship Christian Reformed Church, 4800 Indian School Rd, NE with Pastor John Dykhuis officiating. STEVENSON -- Martin J Stevenson, PhD passed from this life May 1, 2010. "Marty" as he preferred to be called, was a true friend to everyone, and always had a kind word for all. A 20 year resident of Albuquerque, Marty was born June 10, 1946 in Syracuse, NY to Frederick and Florence Stevenson. He graduated from Syracuse University with a BS in Mechanical Engineering, and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University in 1972. He started his career at AT&T Bell Laboratories, with 19 years service at Sandia National Laboratories. He was the beloved husband of Paulette (Crawford) Stevenson for 28 years. Marty was the father of two sons, David Stevenson, wife Guenn, with three children, of Florida and Randy Stevenson, wife Ann, with two children, of California. Marty will forever be remembered by his in-laws, Jay and Brenda Denney, daughter Melissa, and James and Lyn Crawford, son James, all of Indiana. He will be missed by countless other friends who were fortunate enough to know him. He was an avid sailor, and cherished his 34 foot Hunter Sailboat, "Windependent". He and his sailing friends spent many happy days sailing and racing at Elephant Butte Lake. Marty loved to travel with Paulette, read, have fun with friends and relatives and most of all spend time enjoying life. Marty touched the lives of many with his smile and generosity, and his gentle nature will be missed.
